The Feud of the Lovers: A Terranian Tale
The Feud of the Lovers is a title that misguides the listeners, for the lovers of this story were never in any fight of the scale suggested. There is no Romeo-and-Juliet scenario, no Pride-and-Prejudice or Jane-Eyre or Great-Gatsby. Instead, it is the story of two young Altonauxians and the century-long journey they took in an attempt to save their home.
It is never the full story- only a small part, but that is often the case with stories of this nature.
Remarkably, the tale has remained mroe or less the same over the two hundred or so years it has been around. Though, perhaps, this is due to the fact that it is a true story, and descendants of the original cast still walk amongst the population today.
++++ The Sunburn had destroyed the continent of Altonaux, leaving it a wasteland. A sudden surge of Thermal energy, so great that it caused havoc in its wake for years. The afteeshocks were felt in the surrounding lands, and many fled to the city-state of Bildernia, just across the bay from Altonaux's most southern tip, where a barrier stood against the howling winds and death-inducing heat of the former lands of Altonaux.
A barrier created by an elemental seal.
In the world of Terrarinae, today there are four known elements: Light, Organic, Temperate, and Liquid. There were other elements, such as Thermal and Aether, but the main four are the categories most folk fall into. But in the Dark Years, there were twelve elemental categories: Light, Spirit, Air, Plasma, Water, Metal, Earth, Lightning,, Fire, Poison, Dark, and Mystery. Many held these elements but just as today, only a few were Gifted abilities beyond their fellows. Two of these were native Altonauxians who had moved to Bildernia not long before the Sunburn: a young man from the esteemed Marker clan by the name of Oliver and a young lady from the well-respected Quarters family of mages. a Dark elemental, specializing in runes with the Gift of manipulating shadows, and a Spirit elementals, specializing in the fine arts with the Gift of aura creation. they were rebels, against a plan they knew would doom others. But that is a story for another day.
because it was this rebel spirit that drove them to hide his runes in her artwork, to create a seal over Bildernia that would, if it suceeded, save it from destruction.
it could only be sealed, completely, with a final runic spell. But if it was sealed....
When the day came, the couple walked to the edge of Bildernia, on the ebach facing Altonaux. Or what was left of it. There were predictions that the enxt day would be an aftershock, they had found out. The public would not know until it was too late.
With them was a single witness. An apprentice of sorts to Oliver, he would carry a message back to the people if the seal held.
The runist chanted the runic text. The artist finished the final strokes of the painting laid on the stone before them.
The assistant, their confident, later weote that he watched as the lovers took the painting and ripped it in half, letting the paper cut into their figners and the wind scattering the pieces. He watched as a glow filled the sky above them, and then, after a flash of light, they were gone.
There was a cloudy mist blocking Altonaux from Bildernia. Shimmering clouds that covered the sky and former a wall between danger and safety.
The assistant returned to the coty, and the barrier held. But he would not speak of the exact incantations that were used to create the barrier, for fear someone would take advantage and cause the city's downfall and make the sacrifice of his friends useless.
He was an old man when he fonally whispered the secrets to a scholar, the grandniece of the runic master. She left them in a journal and never a ted upon it, for the same reasons as the assistant.
But her daighter...
It had been a hundred years, and the Assistant had long since died. The effects of the Sunburn has diminished significantly and though occassional waves of heat rolled across the land, it had become apparant that it might be possible to populate what was once Altonaux again, to rebuild. To reclaim. but the Barrier blocked all wntry. Except for one reason: to search out the original casters.
They had not died. They were froEn in time, hidden away holding the barrier with their lifeforces.
Twelve departed the coty in searxh of the Lost Heroes.
Six returned, but they brought with them three unfamiliar faces.
The moment the lovers stepped into Bildernia, the seal broke. The clouds parted, and for the first time in years, the city saw the sun. They were welcomed with open arms and joined their families, their lineages continueing on via siblings and cousins. The third was inprisoned, but for reasons partaining to the Sunburn.
The Lovers would, like their old friend, never reveal what exactly had happened surrounding the events. And thosw that sought them out would too keep the secret. The original journal would be destroyed, to keep the secrets within. because what happened in Altonaxu, shoudl atat in Altonaux. Lest it create another disaster of its type, in a land that could withstand what its people could often not.

Swynrpwrimo 2023 - Task #30 - part 2
SWYNRP Character Wishlist: A list of 10+ characters you’d like to see in the RP - Characters Mak wants to play edition
I need y’all to pick some of these characters up before I do pls
[tracker]
1. Lyria from Tinkerbell Fairies franchise with a Jodie Whittaker FC
So my idea for her is nothing like her skeleton but!!!! I love it so much!!!! Her app has been DONE for over two years!!!! I just need to find the right time get her.
2. Aphrodite from Hercules with an Anitta FC
So honestly this character is so well formed in my head. She’s from Avalor (our first Lusophone Avaloran, the rest are primarily Spanish-speakers), she was a Pachamama rebel fighter against the dictatorship before coming to Swynlake, and before the civil war was an actress and pop star! Her name is legit Afrodite bc that’s the Portuguese spelling of Aphrodite. I just wanna iron out a few things in her story before I get her.
3. Imelda Rivera from Coco possibly with a Coty Camacho FC
But I’d really want a Hector if I did so. But UGH I have an idea for herrrrr. She’s honestly such a Mak character
4. Vee Hauntley with a Chloe Hayden FC
And if I HC Vee is my immortal autistic honey like this awesome gorgeous smiley autistic FC? What of it?
5. Fairy Gary possible FCs include: Gao Weiguang, Ryan Gosling, Omar Metwally, , Ian Anthony Dale, Michiel Huisman
I think this would be SUCH a neat opportunity to play with the fairy lore we have regarding the family and how the one big family no-no is having children outside of your Promise. But I'd LOVE to play him with the character who is his illegitimate half-fairy half-human child around, and potentially with a character that's either his Actual wife and/or one that's his legitimate child bc THE DRAMAAAAA Y'ALL. Can be any characters already fairies or we can make characters fairies that aren't already! So if aaaaaanybody is at all interested in this plot, hit me up!!! Let's plot it!
6. Lady Rebekah Alhadeff from Elena of Avalor with a Joséphine Jobert FC
Look. I’m just a slut for Avalor, okay.
7. Rama from The Jungle Book with a Sendhil Ramamurthy FC or a Sidharth Malhotra FC depending on how old I made him
Okay so those of y’all around forever ago may remember when Kiara was here, I had Rama and Raksha with her. But tbh…I feel like that time around I came in at the middle of their story and I’d LOVE to take another crack at them from the start with someone! As either Rama OR Raksha! So I’m giving my top FC idea for both
8. Raksha from The Jungle Book with a Kriti Sanon FC possibly
See above.
9. Jasmine from Aladdin possibly with a Yasmine Al-Bustami FC?
I’m trash for worldbuilding! I created Avalor I’d get to create Agrabah! Eeeee!
10. Ember Lumen possible FC include: Song Yuqi, Zhao Lusi, Sun Zhenni, Pat Chayanit Chansangavej, Imada Mio, Uchinaga Aeri (Giselle), Komatsu Nana, Mint Ranchrawee, Prilly Latuconsina, Lee Sung-kyung, Kim Yong-ji
But I'd want at least one of her parents maybe too :3

Defy was meant for millennial males so maybe they didn´t go for it?
"She said Coty was seeing a man “more willing to embrace his emotions,” one who had a “profound need to succeed interior-wise, rather than in the material sense. There was a deeper sense of introspection — and that was freeing for them.”
Coty double-checked that initial research at the end of 2020, and found that “these self-doubts — and the need to overcome them — were only amplified by COVID-19. So the message of the fragrance was even more relevant than it was a year ago.”
Madden, she added, “embraces the spirit of who we’re trying to express. He’s a rebel with a cause. He has a vulnerable, yet strong, side — and his characters do, too.”
Coty has attempted to distill those ideas into a fresh, woody fragrance, a blend of citrus, bergamot and fresh lavender absolute. The heart is vetiver oil which, according to Coty, is responsibly sourced from Haiti, and provides a “vibrant earthiness and rugged texture,” while the base notes are amber."
Let me preface I appreciate this a lot, but...
* air wank gesture *
* yawn *
* crying laughing *
A rebel, Richard Madden? Bitch please. Vulnerable but strong, I can subscribe to. But rebel? What is rebellious about him, exactly?
I also love how they're trying to describe this fragrance as if it was high end and not an absolute afterthought that someone mildly famous attached their name to just to sell a few units. Come on, guys.

A Calm Before the Storm
Shara bolted upright. She was hyperventilating and her heart was pumping so hard it felt like it might explode from her chest. It was another nightmare.
Shara didn’t remember any much of anything before someone took her helmet off in the midst of that burning base. It was as if removing the thing was a complete rebirth. Still, she never once made it through the night without the visions that haunted her.
I am here. I am me. I am Shara. I am.
Shara repeated the words her father taught her over and over in her mind. She slowly got up from her bunk and looked down out the view port watching the dark swirling clouds of the gas planet Bespid. Simply knowing the very floating city where she was now stationed was once occupied by the Empire, and nearly destroyed later by the First Order made her stomach churn.
The Wars were finally over, but the scars remained. Shara was all too familiar with the stories. She learned of the Rebel Alliance, for whom her grandparents once caught with, in school. At the Republic Alliance Academy, she was regaled with tales of the glory of the Resistance. There was the insane and daring X-Wing pilot and the Stormtrooper defector who always saved the day. Being their daughter definitely made Shara quite popular. If only people realized the truth. The men she called “Daddy” and “Papa” always told a much darker story that felt far more real.
Shara turned and made her way out of her quarters. She wound her way through the corridors, searching for the small temple located at the center of the top level of Cloud Coty. It wasn’t much, but it was quiet. With the resurgence of the Jedi, it became fashionable to erect these spaces throughout the galaxy. Most inhabitants didn’t know much about the Force, but people flocked to the temples regardless, always looking for answers. Shara, however, always wanted the sacred spaces with purpose and intention.
Shara reaches her destination. Cloud City never slept at night, but the temple remained empty in the wee hours. Shara took a seat on a cushion in the far corner of the room, closing her eyes and slowing her breathing. The light and dark both settled within her, creating a soothing balance.
“The Force is with me. I am one with the Force.”
The war within herself settled as she meditated on these words. Shara was filled with peace. She continued meditating the city reached the daylight portion of its orbit around Bespin. The light brought her out of the relaxed states she enjoyed.
Distant beeps signaled the incoming of the small hand-me-down astromech droid Shara cherished with her life.
“I’ll be there in a few buddy!” Shara called out. “Get the ship fired up for me.”
She felt excitement grow as she made her way to the landing pad reserved for the Republic Alliance fleet. It would be nice to spend her leave flying home to Yavin 4 with her family, but she had something bigger to accomplish first. Training to be the future of the Jedi filled Shara with the hope that she would be the last of the galaxy’s war tortured children. Nothing was more important than this mission.
Notes: So I managed to create a somewhat original character again. But it’s still fan fiction. At least it’s better than my previous trash. I’ve been mostly writing in notebooks lately, and this is the first story I’ve fel like sharing. It doesn’t completely fit with the story I now have in mind, but it helped me to develop Shara a little. I’m working on her rescue, and subsequent adoption by Poe and Finn next, then maybe I can flesh out the story in my mind. I hope you liked this! But if you don’t, that’s cool. I know I’m not much of a writer anyway.

Although it got styling updates every year, the 1962 Rambler Classic - formerly the Rambler Six/V8/Rebel - hadn’t changed much since 1956 underneath. This was the the mid-size horse - bigger than “compact” but smaller than a “standard” that George Romney bet AMC’s future on and won; effectively establishing the Rambler as a mainstream brand. Being financially constrained as AMC often was, the company got the maximum life out of the platform. But with “intermediates” like the Ford Fairlane about to invade its turf, in 1960 authorized work to begin on a replacement - 1963’s Rambler Classic & Ambassador. - The styling for the new Ramblers came from Ed Anderson and his deputy, Dick Teague. Anderson had been a Nash veteran since migrating from GM in 1950 and, along with his former assistant Bill Reddig, had styled most Nashes and Ramblers in that decade - including cars publicly attributed to Pininfarina but actually in-house designs. Teague had come from Packard and replaced Reddig in 1958 - he’d replace Anderson in 1963 and be AMC’s style chief into the 1980s. Their brief for the car was complicated by Romney’s insistence that the new mid-size car share some stampings with a forthcoming replacement for AMC’s smallest (and in 1962, oldest) car - the Rambler American, due in 1964. - That cost-saving move in the long term made work more difficult in the short term, but AMC’s engineers saved weight and complexity by combining pieces of the unibody into larger stampings, making the Classic light and rigid. Anderson and Teague’s styling had a slight tuck-under, low beltline, and curved side glass for a sleek look. The car’s new engineering and style made splash, winning @motortrend COTY for 1963. More than 320K Classics were sold in 1963, and more than 500K AMCs overall - a high water mark for AMC. - The new body was used on the Classic and the V8-only Ambassador. A 287-cid V8 was added to the Classic in mid-1963, but most were sixes. In 1964, GM launched a new set of intermediates like the Chevelle and some economy-minded Rambler buyers were tempted by the smaller, cheaper American. This generation of classic continued into ‘66, but competition bit increasingly hard. https://www.instagram.com/p/B58EO8MJEZE/?igshid=1m6ci4l9b7n6f

2020 Ram 1500 Pros and Cons Review: Ram Returns With an EcoDiesel
Pros:
32 mpg highway
Air suspension
Barn-door tailgate option
Cons:
Laggy throttle
Heavy, slow steering
Squishy brakes
Car lovers new to trucks unabashedly love the Ram 1500. Its coil- or air-sprung suspension delivers the truck world’s most carlike ride, and that big vertical screen on fancier models reminds us of the 2013 COTY-winning Tesla Model S.
Driving this year’s Rebel reminded us vividly of why Ram won the best-truck Calipers last year. But for 2020, we’re zooming past such niceties and laser-focusing on the new 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 EcoDiesel engine. Unfortunately for Ram, Chevy and GMC also returned for a second swing at TOTY with Silverado and Sierra 1500 models sporting a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel I-6 for our consideration.
Read about Car, SUV, and Truck of the Year contenders and finalists HERE.
Let’s get fuel economy out of the way: GM’s Duramax ranks first (with Chevy slightly ahead of GMC), FCA’s EcoDiesel is second, and Ford’s light-duty Power Stroke brings up the rear, though all are tightly stacked with EPA city and highway ratings ranging from 20 to 23 and 25 to 33 mpg.
On objective performance grounds, the GM Duramax again outpaces the Ram’s EcoDiesel, whether unladen, carrying 1,000 pounds of payload, or towing a 7,500-pound trailer.
In air-hauling mode, the GMC Sierra AT4 zips to 60 mph and through the quarter mile 0.6 second ahead of the similar Ram Rebel. That’s too great a differential to be chalked up to the GMC’s advantages in curb weight (108 pounds) or power (10 hp) because the Ram holds its own 20-lb-ft torque advantage. Credit GM’s savvy 10-speed automatic for out-shifting FCA’s eight-speed.
The performance discrepancy grows as the load increases: The Ram is 1.0 second slower to 60 with 1,000 pounds in the bed, and it’s 1.8 seconds slower towing the 7,500-pound trailer.
The Ram did scoot through testing director Kim Reynolds’ emergency lane-change maneuver more quickly than the knobbier-tired GMC (3.79 seconds to 4.08), but a lighter rear-drive Chevy RST Duramax on street tires was quicker still (3.68 seconds).
Our on-road subjective assessments added nuance to the hard facts. Road test editor Chris Walton faulted the Ram’s “poor light throttle response at low rpm. Isn’t that where diesels excel?” Features editor Scott Evans said, “The power delivery feels less linear than in the Sierra.”
Features editor Christian Seabaugh forgave the Ram’s relative sloth, countering that it still “rides nicer, handles better, and is quieter, more luxurious, and ultimately a better Swiss Army knife.” On our drive loops, Walton noted that the Ram got “a bit floaty in the curves,” adding that the steering’s weight felt “good and hefty, but with a slow ratio that needs a lot of dial to negotiate a curve in the road.”
Off-road, Seabaugh granted an edge to the Sierra AT4’s “engine and transmission for its immediacy and precision” but credited the Rebel’s manual rear differential lock for delivering “much more traction than the auto diff in the GMC.”
Evans agreed that the Ram’s locking rear diff and height-adjustable air suspension more than compensated for the advantage in mechanical grip afforded by the GMC’s Wrangler DuraTrac tires. But he lamented how the Ram’s “lazier throttle makes the truck surge more than the AT4,” and several of us noted that the Ram’s plush ride disappears at off-road height.
When towing 7,500 pounds, Walton sensed more vertical ride motion and fore/aft lash from the trailer on the Davis Dam than he did in the AT4. And keeping his foot pinned to the floor following our 35–55 mph “frustration test,” he noted that the Ram topped out at 62 mph on the grade, while the GMC achieved 70 mph. Evans appreciated the Ram’s mini spotter mirrors for maneuvering, but Walton missed having proper wide-set trailer mirrors for monitoring his rig while climbing the mountain.
So although we still love most everything about the Ram 1500, in its diesel guise it makes a less compelling case.

A quelle heure ?

Fata aia chiar are plămâni!”
“You’re my flame in the dark, Glass!” “Get a room, guys! “Yeah, too early. Now shut up, Glass!”

April 26th 1991 – April 26th 2010 (18 years)
Birth (0-1):
In Bloom – Nirvana
I was born into the grunge movement, and the album never mind by nirvana was a landmark album for the band. I never knew about nirvana until I was much older, in my teens, but after listening to the entire album, I really liked In Bloom the most. I feel like it could be about me. It captures the teenage attitude perfectly, an attitude that I always wanted to avoid.
Baby (2-3):
Jeremy – Pearl Jam
I heard this song when I was two I think and it stuck with me ever since. I always hear the guitar part in my head when I am about to do something I shouldn’t do.
The Voice – The Moody Blues
Tuesday Afternoon – The Moody Blues
I Know You’re Out There Somewhere – The Moody Blues
My mom used to play these songs in a cassette in this order. I remember always liking the first song the most . I would listen to it constantly, and always wanted to hear it when mom would play it in the car. All of these songs made me feel good as a little boy, especially Tuesday Afternoon and I Know You’re Out There Somewhere. Tuesday Afternoon has a part in the song when the singer hits this note for almost 30 seconds, and I used to challenge myself to see if I could hold the note too. I never could do it as a little boy, but as I got older, I trained myself to do it. It always frustrated me when I would have to gasp for air after about 20 seconds. I Know You’re Out There Somewhere reminds me of my first dog Brownie. She was a vicious dog to strangers, and since we didn’t have a fence, we had to let her go when we moved to Kentucky when I was about 3. The song was playing when my mom told me that Brownie was gone, so I told myself as a little boy that I “would find her somehow, somehow, somehow.” It never happened, and as I got older I forgot about her. Maybe when I got my new dog star, it sort of made me forget, but now that I think about it, I think I knew deep down that Brownie was better off on that farm. At least there she could run around and be free.
Kid (4-13):
You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me – Dusty Springfield
This song was my go-to for help when I was confused and my parents were of no help. I couldn’t talk to them about my sexuality. I was condemned.
Freshmen year:
I first heard of fall out boy, all American rejects, panic at the disco, 30 seconds to mars, and bands like that in my drama class, my very first class in my very first year of high school. A boy with mohawk hair and gauges sat behind me and his friend (a girl who looked like she rolled out of bed each morning) always talked about music. One day she brought in a cd with four guys on the cover, in a silhouette fashion, with what looked like a stage with red curtains in front of them. These four guys are sitting facing towards the stage, and if I remember correctly there was a tree or a cab or something in the stage. The title of this album was called From Under the Cork Tree and it was by the band Fall Out Boy. I never heard of them and was interested in the band, so I asked to see the cd. The girl showed me her favorite song. The title was long, and I lost interest right then and there. I never realized this band was going to become major in about 3 months. I figured it was a local band too, I never took the time to ask what genre they were or where she got the cd from. So, I dismissed the band and instead kept listening to my Avril Lavigne and no doubt. When I went home I turned on the radio to the station I always played, 99.7 djx, and after while I heard my first fall out boy song, sugar we’re going down. I liked the song, and that is when I became a follower of the emo scene that would become huge in the next year. My friends at this time where two goth/emo girls who knew how to be rebels. They were redheads and twins. One girl always wore crazy goth clothes, the other would have on something fun, like Pokémon or some anime t shirt. They rode my bus and had me listen to music I cannot even remember, but they got me into the punk scene. There was also a girl named Shelby who rode my bus too, and she played the knack my sharona, and I loved it. She was a huge rush fan, but I never got into that band. I remember hearing all the songs that were popular 2006 on the bus. Like lose control my missy Elliot, my immortal by evanescence, a lot of rap and hip hop, and Kelly Clarkson. I was introduced to prince that year, but never got into him until my sophomore year.
Sophomore Year:
I was entering my second quarter of the second semester of my sophomore year. I used to use a music website called project playlist to discover music. Everyone that I knew on myspace had one, because you could have up to 100 songs on it, so much better than the one song that myspace used to let you have, now myspace even lets you have playlists. But back when it was new and hip, project playlist was like finding pandoras box, I discovered so many songs and artists from that website. I could listen to any song I wanted, without having to buy it, so I looked up all the bands that my friends were talking about, like My Chemical Romance, AFI, The Used, Paramore, act… I used it to listen to classic songs by David Bowie, Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Queen… I also was into the movie Moulin Rouge. I heard my first David bowie songs (heroes, diamond dogs) and Madonna songs (like a virgin, material girl) in that movie. I credit that movie for my taste in music actually. I never would have known who Bowie was until much later in life if not for Moulin Rouge. I also looked up U2 (in the name of love) and queen (the show must go on) I went out and bought 3 CDs that pretty much defined the last half of my sophomore year: I’m not dead by pink, Greatest hits platinum by queen (which included 3 CDs, the first being there classic rock songs, the second their 80’s hits, and the last one with solo stuff by Freddie and the 90’s hits) and The Immaculate Collection by Madonna. Later during the summer I bought Mika’s debut cd – Life in Cartoon Motion. I fucking loved that cd. Every song in it meant something to me. Then I bought The New York Dolls Life in Manhattan Cd and Feists Cd the Reminder. All these musicians I discovered through YouTube, project playlist, or myspace. So I give them a lot of thanks.
Junior year:
The beginning of my junior year, I was a happy, fun, person. Everyone knew me, and everyone knew about me. I was comfortable with myself and outgoing and headstrong. The music I liked was still a carryover from the summer, (New York dolls, feast, mika) and my friends knew I liked the emo stuff and the weird stuff. I never was actually emo, I never dressed like it, or even tried to be associated with the scene, but as time went on, I would find things to be changing. I went to a concert called less fest and saw a band called sum 41. I really liked their energy. I remember I went with some friends who would later become my best friends, like taylr, cory, coty, logan. I was also becoming close to Sydney during that time, but we didn’t become good friends till later. I remember seeing kimmy and sally and lots of people. But things went south after that night, I was drunk and planning to get with Logan later. It was a well-known fact that I went both ways back then, and Logan wanted to join in on the fun. I remember being excited about the whole thing, I thought this was going to mean a possible relationship, but I realized the next day that any hopes for a boyfriend were gone. This sent me down a path that was destructive, and I ended up turning to drugs. At first it was simply pot, and I was familiar with it. Over the summer I smoked it for the first time down in Florida and liked it a lot. I was reading a book called the perks of being a wallflower at the time too, and I looked up the music in that book. I had a friend named Lauren who introduced me to a band called chiodos, which got me into the whole screamo/posthardcore scene, and I began to lose my head with the drugs. I became closer friends with Sydney and we hung out a lot. She confided in me that she was bisexual, and we talked a lot about our experiences. I went to a lot of parties that fall and became hooked on cocaine. It was a drug I should have avoided, but I didn’t. And around late October Halloween I lost it. I told the whole school about what Logan and I did, I turned to Sydney for support and help and then we began dating as a cover up for our sexuality, well more for her, so her parents wouldn’t think she was with girls. And I turned to bands like my chemical romance, the used, Thursday, Paramore, the song loving touching squeezing my journey, Manson, and anything loud that would make me feel better. MCR and the Used were bands that I became dependant on because their music hit exactly what I felt with my life. I felt like a monster or a freak. Like I did not deserve sunlight. Like I was meant to be alone and damned for what I did. I let the fear of being gay get into my head and I began to call out to the black parade for help. I lost myself in Gerard’s words and Bert McCracken’s screams. From November to about January I was in the darkest part of my life. My drug habit was becoming worse and I lost my friends. I hurt Sydney when I stupidly said I did not believe she was bi; I was hurting Logan for no reason, and I was coming to school fucked out my mind. I began to lose weight and became very weak. I wore makeup and would go overboard with the eyes. I thought I deserved to look as bad on the outside as I did on the inside. At that time I thought I was all alone, but I forgot that I had taylr right there listening to me. He was a great friend to me and I thank him for that. I think taylr actually sought me out, because he knew he could talk to me about relationships. He was called gay for being my friend, but he didn’t care. He saw that I didn’t base my whole life on my sexuality, and he respected me. He knew I was into music a lot, and he pushed me in a direction that would help me out later in life. I started to play the piano because of him, and I learned how to interpret music because of him. He was into the emo stuff and he introduced me to a lot of that music. All time low, etc. the pop punk stuff. He was straight edge then and didn’t like that I did drugs, but he never tried to change me. He just accepted me as I was, and let me be who I wanted to me. We got along so well during my second half of my junior year. I was getting acid from a boy I used to mess with named Michael browning, I knew him from Ronnie back when I was sophomore.
I should go on a little side story about my sexuality, the confusion, the confrontations, the revelations, and the religious disturbance inside of me when I learned what sin was, and the events that led to how I am now, but I will do this some other time. I don’t want to divert from the main story about my music history.
During my time spent with taylr, I met some people who shared my interest in music, clover, and Frankie the girls who dated each other, Alex the girl who dated cory for about a year, Hailey the Asian. Then I met Kaitlyn Becker.

Alfa Romeo Giulia is the 2018 Motor Trend Car of the Year
It’s become de rigueur to declare driving dead. If we are headed for autonomous transport, ask the pundits, why bother having fun behind the wheel? Just clamber into your soulless people hauler, select “Stultifying Ambient Tedium” on your Pandora playlist, and tune out.
At Motor Trend, dear reader, we are not ready to give up the fight even if the morning commute is more slog than slalom, more torture than torque. We contend that a schlep through shoreline traffic should not extinguish individuality.
Driving great distances because you can is a deep-rooted American tradition. It is the declaration of independence of the industrial revolution. It is our automotive destiny. We embrace the decreasing-radius corner, the back road’s unexpected undulation, the hairpin with a dusting of gravel at the apex.
At a time when the formulaic commoditization of cars is not only expected but also a standard feature, we rebel. We are not ready to relegate our cars to the status quo of an A-to-B anachronism of conveyance. We believe in the necessity of passion and finding your heart’s desire. There is still time—time to instill joy, lust, rivalry, and good cheer.
For those who won’t settle for ubiquity, we present the 2018 Motor Trend Car of the Year: the Alfa Romeo Giulia.
No less a luminary than Henry Ford, the inventor of the mass-production automobile, once said: “When I see an Alfa Romeo go by, I tip my hat.”
Mr. Ford knew there was something special about the car that carries the cross-and-serpent badge, the company where Enzo Ferrari proudly got his start in racing before hanging his own shingle.
Our international bureau chief, Angus MacKenzie, an axle-greased eminence of the auto industry, knows his Alfa history. In his London garage sits a 1967 GTV coupe—a rolling symbol of Alfa Romeo’s glory years. “Back in the early ’60s, Alfa occupied a niche that BMW later came to own—building fast, charismatic sedans, wagons, and coupes that looked good, weren’t stupidly expensive, and, most of all, were utterly delightful to drive,” he says. “This new Giulia recaptures the spirit of those 1960s Alfas but in a thoroughly modern manner.”
Anyone reading Motor Trend this past year shouldn’t be surprised. Each successive time we drove the Giulia, through summer’s ripening breath, our enthusiasm grew.
Alfa Romeo’s erratic legacy in this country might mean many Americans have limited knowledge of this brand and heritage. Consider the Giulia your introduction.
“There is sorcery in this car,” road test editor Chris Walton says. “The Giulia fills the space vacated by BMW. Yet even at the apex of its reign, a 3 Series never rode this well or cornered with such poise and precision simultaneously.”
When seeing the strength of the 2018 COTY field, some readers might feel our choice of the Alfa Romeo seems out of left field. The Honda Accord, Kia Stinger, and Tesla Model 3 all make strong plays for top honors (and received individual first-place votes among our judging panel).
But Alfa Romeo is dashing away with the prize—the first time an Italian brand has won COTY or our discontinued Import Car of the Year—and anyone who has been reading Motor Trend this past year shouldn’t be surprised.
Earlier this year, the base Giulia beat all comers in our Big Test of 2.0-liter compact luxury sedans—a field that included Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz, among others.
The Quadrifoglio version then eviscerated its rival BMW M3, Cadillac ATS-V, and Mercedes C63 S super sedan entrants in a four-way comparison on streets and at the racetrack.
And in Best Driver’s Car against 11 supercars, sports cars, and six-figure grand tourers, the Quadrifoglio (the lone sedan) finished in a respectable sixth.
Each successive time we drove the Giulia, through summer’s ripening breath, our enthusiasm grew.
“Best steering, best chassis—this car saves the sport sedan market,” says guest judge Chris Theodore—the former Ford and Chrysler product development executive who knows something about creating cars to make a soul ache.
“It was the only car that said, ‘You’re in charge. You want to be nice and tidy, I can be tidy. You want to be crazy and drift me wild, I’ll be right there with you,’” Theodore adds. “You fall in love with it.”
The top-trim Quadrifoglio, with its 505 fiery-footed steeds underhood, is blisteringly quick, especially in Race mode. Its 2.9-liter V-6 is a Ferrari engine with two cylinders cleaved off, for crying out loud. While punching out a 3.8-second 0–60 time and a 12.1-second quarter mile, this pazzo Alfa also carries asphalt-peeling lateral grip. Yet the car’s attitude can be adjusted on the throttle at will. In short, it goads expletive-shouting misbehavior while delivering a commute-friendly ride.
What clinched the Calipers was the base Giulia. Many brands make blazingly fast performance sedans, but when the exercise is reduced by mass-market pressures, the lesser version is often found lacking. Not so here. The $38,990 base Giulia achieves something Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, and Jaguar have tried futilely to do for decades: build a better compact sport sedan than the Deutschlanders.
The Giulia’s eager 2.0-liter turbo-four is no wisp of an engine. It cranks out a stunning yet tractable 280 hp and 306 lb-ft of torque. In testing, we admit to finding a hint of lag and lash, but when the powerband kicks in to second gear and the exhaust note awakens, your senses will revel in jubilation.
“This is a car that snorts and burps and gurgles,” Detroit editor Alisa Priddle says. “There is something visceral about hearing the car. There’s sheer fun in driving a car like that.”
Call it Italian finesse; Alfa understands the nuance that some drivers might desire, a racy engine response without turning the suspension into a kidney-beating nightmare—hence the option of a softer suspension setting while in Dynamic mode. Markus observed that some twisty roads benefit a car with a softer shock setting. Adds Ed Loh: “The Germans always say, ‘We make everything hard.’ No! Softness. Softness.”
Putting the power to the pavement is a proven ZF eight-speed with 100-millisecond shift times and the ability to skip-shift from eighth gear directly to second if instant hp is needed. If you are stuck in the typical morning snarl, a switch to “A” mode changes the shift logic to smooth and calm. So what if we Americans don’t get a manual version? One toggle of the cold, all-aluminum paddle shifters will make you cease yearning to row your own gears. The Brembo brakes, normally a sure thing, and brake-by-wire system earned some frowns for being mushy under pressure, though.
“It handles absolutely beautifully, with light, linear sports car–like steering,” features editor Christian Seabaugh says. “It rides like a luxury car with no impact harshness in the cabin, and it’s downright quick. This is a car that puts a smile on your face. It doesn’t matter whether you’re sitting at a stop light, bombing down a back road, or cruising on the highway. It just wants to please.”
Many luxury sedans have imitated the stark Germanic style. But Alfa retained its legacy of what an Italian car’s exterior and interior should look like. It is unmistakable and sensual, imbuing a cosmopolitan glamour to the driver.
“The design, packaging, and various visual elements seem to come together to complement each other,” former Chrysler design boss Tom Gale says, pointing to the shield grille, shrouded instrument cluster, and ’60s-inspired wood inlays as iconic Alfa styling points.
Alfa Romeo could have taken the cheap way out, relying on tacked-on pieces of faux heritage. But no, the whole car is heritage—swoopy, sexy, and more than a little brazen. The smooth detents of the buttons, the rheostatic clicks of the dials, and the swing of the stalks all carry a tactile elegance. The italic typeface on the instrument gauges connotes velocity. The back seats, though a tad tight on legroom, are draped in the same sumptuous leather as those up front.
This snazzy aesthetic travels into places most people won’t see (but Theodore did), such as the attention to detail in the chassis design—with stout spring perches, strut-tower braces, and shrouding of the cooling system.
Now let’s talk value. This segment is cutthroat, and Alfa has not flinched at what is expected. After following the industry-standard 36-month, $399/month lease deal, it launched a 24-month, $299/month lease deal that should get the attention of any individual with Maserati tastes but a Mazda budget.
Carrying such a gutsy engine could tank fuel economy. But the Alfa is a miser. The rear-drive version of the 2.0-liter Giulia delivers 21.7/37.9/26.8 mpg city/highway/combined in our Real MPG tests, while the Quadrifoglio managed 15.8/28.5/19.8 mpg—in both cases, underperforming the EPA ratings slightly in city and combined and significantly exceeding them on the highway.
As for safety, the Giulia was rated a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS, its highest rating, and earned top marks for its automatic emergency braking and headlamp systems. The Giulia carries a five-star rating in the European NCAP evaluation. It offers smart cruise control (down to a full stop), forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and numerous other systems. And although other cars blare Klaxons to warn of a lane departure, the Giulia thumps a bass line more akin to a Deadmau5 beat.
As to the elephant in the room: Some readers with long memories will recall Alfas of yore as temperamental and unreliable—the main reason for its departure from this market in 1993. And upon Alfa Romeo’s return to the U.S., some early-build 2017 Giulias had issues with electrical gremlins. But in this year’s accelerated wear-and-tear Car of the Year testing of three Giulias, we found nary a glitch, hiccup, or bark of protest—while several cars from other luxury automakers had notable issues.
Is the Giulia perfect? No, but neither are any of its rivals. T from PerformanceJunk WP Feed 3 http://ift.tt/2BjHSs1 via IFTTT
