🤍 “Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.” Rebecca was quite a remarkable read for me. I loved the atmosphere of this book. It was deep, dark, mysterious. For me it was fascinating to be inside the head of the main character and perceive the world as she did. It created the right mood for this novel and helped us care about the events in the book. When I started this novel, I knew the main synopsis but tried to avoid any spoilers as much as possible. So while reading I wasn't even sure about this book genre and it helped a lot with additional tension, anticipation and nervousness. I think it's a good idea for me to leave it this way for you too. In my opinion, this book benefits from not knowing anything about it. Daphne Du Maurier is a master of prose for sure. She can write the novel the way it absorbs you completely and doesn't let you go till the final. I was engaged in reading from the very beginning and for me this book was truly a great page-turner. My final review is 8.5/10 for this novel. 📖 “Happiness is not a possession to be prized, it is a quality of thought, a state of mind.”

15.“ If only there could be an invention that bottled up a memory, like scent. And it never faded, and it never got stale. And then, when one wanted it, the bottle could be uncorked, and it would be like living the moment all over again.” Rebecca, Daphne du Maurie The story begins in Monte Carlo, where the wealthy widower, Maxim de Winter befriends the young, paid companion of a rich, elderly social climber. When her shallow employer falls ill, the young lady, who remains nameless, is invited to spend time gallivanting around Monte Carlo with Mr. de Winter. She is incredibly naïve and instantly smitten with the older, influential man. And the story goes on. If you’re a fan of gothic classic love story, this is for you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 29.07.2020 PS: If you want to skip the book (I hope not) Alfred Hitchcock made a movie about this book and you’ll thank me later. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #bookstagram #booklover #booknerdigans #bookstagramfeature #booknerd #bookstagrammer #bookish #booksofinstagram #bookaddict #bookstagramfeature #bookaholic #igreads #bookgeek #bibliophile #rebeccadaphnedumaurier #gothicnovel #classicnovels (at Dubai, United Arab Emirates) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDOSEcHneGnvpfUxZk60tmcLBaDB-SnTM9wrUM0/?igshid=eh1155co04za

A poor pastime, perhaps, and not a very intellectual one. But I breathe the air of England as I read, and can face this glittering sky with greater courage.
