What Is Wire Forming?
Wire forming is a method for applying force to change the contour of wire by bending, swaging, piercing, chamfering, shearing, or other techniques. The various techniques for wire forming can produce any type of shape, form, or configuration. The process starts with coiled wire that is straightened before being formed.
Common metals used for wire forming include steel, brass, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, and a variety of different alloys. The diameters of wires vary from 0.5 mm to 6.5 mm, or 1/64th of an inch to a quarter inch and can produce 2 and 3 dimensional wire forms.
The types of equipment to complete wire forming vary between manual crafting to advanced CNC programmable machines. The process includes options for coating and protecting final products for use in harsh conditions.
Methods Used for Wire Forming
Though there are several types of equipment used to perform wire forming, in most cases, wire roof guard
machines are manually or automatically operated. Manual machines include ones that are operated by manual force and ones that are electronic but manually loaded. Automatic machines have advanced computer numerically controlled (CNC) programming and complete production without manual involvement.
Methods For Wire Forming
Wire forming is performed using several different processes each designed to achieve a different shape, pattern, or configuration. The methods of wire forming are used for other part production but have been adjusted for wire forming.
Manual Wire Forming:
The oldest method for wire forming is manually operated machines, which involves a hand lever and spindle. Manual machines can be drawn or rotary die and have gears that increase the applied bending force.
Coil Wire Forming:
Coil, or spring wire forming, involves winding wire around a metal blank. It is also used for the manufacture of electrical coils where a conductive wire is evenly wound around a ferromagnetic core. Coil winding takes different forms depending on the final product. Electrical coils have to be more precisely wound than springs and can require more than one winding.
Roll Wire Forming:
Roll forming is a cost efficient method for the production of flat, round, and other shapes of wire parts. The process can manufacture undercuts, knurls, pointing, chamfers, grooves, surface finishes, collars, and threads. Roll formed wire parts have extra strength after being hardened, having rounded edges, and being prefinishing.
Bend Wire Forming:
In the wire bending process, wire can be shaped into unlimited configurations to fit any application. Diameters of 0.4 mm to 16 mm, or 0.016 in to 0.625 in, can be easily formed. Since the bend in the wire is made prior to the wire being cut, the process has no scrap or waste and does not need secondary finishing.
CNC Wire Bending:
CNC wire bending machines can be pneumatic or hydraulic for efficient and rapid production. They can bend and shape rebar to 180o using single or double wire. The machine straightens the bar prior to the bending process. CNC machines have exceptional accuracy and cut wire to the exact required dimensions. The types of wire a CNC machine can be programmed to shape includes music, hard drawn, basic or coated metals, 300 series stainless steel, brass, and beryllium copper. Wire diameters vary between 0.008 in to 0.250 in or 0.0203 mm to 6.35 mm.

Technical Requirements And Precautions For the Connection Of Steel Bar Coupler
The ends of the steel bars must not be bent and should be straightened when bent. When cutting the steel bar, it is not allowed to use electric welding, gas welding and other heating methods or cutting with a steel bar cutting machine. It must be cut with a toothless saw to ensure that the end of the steel bar is straight and perpendicular to the axis of the steel bar, and there must be no horseshoe or bending.
Rebar wire head processing: The processing length of the wire head is 1/2 of the length of the standard coupler. The specifications of the steel bar should be adjusted to the thread rolling device. Consistently, the cumulative length of the bald teeth in the effective thread segment is less than the circumference of one thread. On the straight thread rolling machine, the straight thread head of the steel bar is rolled according to the designed pitch, feed length and other parameters, and the corresponding ring gauge is used. And the wire head clamp test is qualified. Refer to Table 1 for the reference processing size (mm) of the wire head.
Water-soluble cutting lubricating fluid shall be used for thread processing of steel bar rolling, oily cutting fluid shall not be used, and processing shall not be carried out without lubricating fluid.
After the steel wire head is processed, immediately put on a protective cap or screw on the connecting coupler to prevent damage to the wire head when loading and unloading the steel bar. It should be neatly stacked at the designated location as required, and the specifications of the steel bar should be clearly marked. The wrench will connect the steel bar to the straight thread coupler. Tighten it so that the two steel wire head joints are pressed against each other at the center of the sleeve. There should be two marking lines on the steel wire head. When the steel bars are connected, the length of the steel bar entering the coupler should be marked at the wire head to facilitate inspection and acceptance. .
Appearance and appearance quality: The thread of the rebar head should be full. Within the specified effective length of the thread, the cumulative length of the incomplete buckle with the major diameter of the thread lower than the pitch diameter of the thread should not exceed 2 thread circumferences. The skin can be removed with an iron brush.
Inspection of thread size: Use the go-stop gauge to inspect the thread size. It is required that after the end of the steel wire is inserted into the go-stop gauge, the end is within the upper and lower limits of the go-stop gauge to be qualified.
The processed steel wire ends should be self-inspected one by one with special testing tools.
The silk ends that pass the self-inspection shall be inspected by random sampling by the quality inspector. The silk ends processed in one work shift are regarded as one acceptance batch, and 10% of them shall be randomly inspected. When the pass rate is still less than 95%, all silk ends shall be inspected one by one.
When connecting steel bars, the specifications of the steel bars and the connecting couplers should be consistent, and the threads of the wire heads and connecting couplers should be clean and undamaged.
When constructing in sections, the exposed parts of the connecting coupler and the steel wire buckle should be tightly covered with a sealing cover.
The end faces of the two steel bars to be connected must be tight and in the middle of the coupler, and the deviation should not be greater than 1P (P is the pitch). No more than 1.5-2 threads are exposed outside the coupler.
Tightening torque of rolled straight threaded steel bar joints: steel bar diameter 18-22mm is 160/(N.m), 22-25mm is 260/(N.m), 28-32mm is 320/(N.m), 36-40mm is 350/(N.m)

The simplely construction process is using a rolling process to create straight threads on the end of the steel bars and connecting them with the appropriate couplers. So, what are the key points to attention during the manufacturing process? In the following, the coupler manufacturer DLADTO will provide you with a detailed introduction:
1.The thread, tooth shape, and pitch of the processed rebar threads should be consistent with the connecting coupler threads, and they should be inspected and approved by matching gauges.
2. When processing rebar threads, water-soluble cutting lubricant should be used. When the temperature is below 0℃, 15%-20% sodium nitrite should be added. Machine oil is not allowed as a lubricant or threading without any lubricant.
3. Operators should inspect the appearance quality of rebar thread heads individually and make operator marks.
4. Rebar thread heads that have passed self-inspection should be randomly sampled for 10% of each specification, not less than 10 pieces. If there is one piece that does not meet the requirements, the entire batch should be inspected. Non-compliant thread heads should be reprocessed and can only be used after passing the re-inspection.
5. Inspected and approved thread heads should be protected with protective caps and neatly categorized according to specifications for future use.
