According to recently revealed police papers, an extended “sugar daddy” extortion scheme that targeted a Greenwich millionaire’s secret online world where women were his slaves and he was their master all started after an Ohio couple watched an episode of television’s “Dr. Phil.”
The stories go on to describe the demands Stephen Dent, an investor, would place on the women he considered his internet sex slaves, including having breast implants, going to fetish websites, and sending lots of sexually graphic emails and images.
Christopher Jessop, 30, of Mansfield, Ohio, said in a police interview that he was the mastermind of the scam that successfully defrauded 54-year-old Dent of more than $200,000. According to Jessop, he got the idea after seeing a “Dr. Phil” programme about the sugar daddy dating website SeekingArrangement.com.
In a March 19 jailhouse interview with Greenwich detectives, Jessop described a conversation he had with his wife, Dawn Jessop: “I was like, honey, you know, get on the computer and see what this is about.” “The next thing I know, these wealthy men are simply handing us money for email discussions without any exchange of goods or services.
The Jessops admitted to authorities that they only blackmailed Dent despite receiving money from other affluent men on the website.
Christopher Jessop told the detectives, “We came across Stephen Dent, and he was into some pretty bizarre stuff. He ended up being little more than a gold mine for us.
Following a Freedom of Information Act request by Greenwich Time, the police files on the Jessops also name Patricia Miller, 45, of Michigan as the “harem mother,” or chief slave, who would assist Dent in making sure the other women were real and upheld their half of the bargain.
Ironically, according to authorities, Miller was using at least four different younger women’s names while trying to trick Dent and eventually extort him.
After authorities uncovered their plot in March 2009, the Jessops were taken into custody.
Following their guilty pleas in May, Dawn and Christopher Jessop were both given a suspended sentence and probation. On larceny-related charges, Miller was extradited from Michigan in May. She hasn’t pleaded guilty.
A Queens man named Roy Sipel apparently tried to blackmail Dent in 2007, threatening to expose him for engaging in “vile and filthy” behaviours with his girlfriend in a Greenwich hotel and extorting money from him.
Greenwich Time revealed Dent’s history of problematic online interactions and his part in paying women nearly $200,000 for sex in 2007 in an article published in May 2009.
Dawn Jessop told police that after they started corresponding, Dent sent her an email outlining his demands and promised to provide her $10,000 each month if she obeyed.
Dawn Jessop claimed in a statement to police, “Stephen e-mailed me and stated that he wanted me to learn the virtues of slavery. According to police investigations, the Jessops informed the authorities that Dawn regularly sent fictitious images of other persons, and that Christopher was frequently the one to initiate more sexually explicit talks with Dent.
According to police accounts, Dent cut Dawn Jessop off financially after she refused to meet him in person, which prompted Christopher Jessop to begin threatening him.
Christopher Jessop claimed he required a means of maintaining his current opulent way of living. Between November 2008 and February 2009, according to the Jessops, they spent over $200,000 on jewellery, upscale restaurants, and a Range Rover sport utility car. All of this money was gained from Dent both legally and unlawfully.
Dent agreed not to notify the police when Christopher Jessop initially threatened him, according to the police, and the two were successful in getting $100,000 in hush money.
In an email to the Jessops, Dent stated, “I will have no need to call the authorities so long as you fulfil your half of the bargain.” “I’m counting on you to honour your word and remove all of my information from your computer. It’s encouraging that you see this money as payment and not as extortion. I concur that you earned it, and as a result, I’m willing to make the purchase.”
After realising he had one final damaging e-mail, Christopher Jessop told police he made the decision to go further. He and Dawn drove to Greenwich where they faced Dent.
However, at this point, the FBI and Greenwich Police had ordered Dent to come in and explain what was going on after noticing that he was sending significant amounts of money by wire. In March 2009, police detained Dent and his wife at a nearby hotel after they were both found to be wearing wires while in a meeting with Christopher Jessop.
Police were informed by Christopher Jessop that he had no idea how things would turn out.
The things he was doing and saying to these girls, in my opinion, were terrible. I suppose I attempted to dispense justice on my own, “Jessop stated. Sincerely, I never in a million years could have imagined that I would be in this kind of situation as I sit here.
Steven Frederick, Dent’s Stamford attorney, did not answer a call seeking comment on this article on Wednesday.
Miller is currently being defended by Mark Sherman, who previously represented Christopher Jessop and who also feels Miller is innocent despite one of his clients having been charged with a crime.
The question of whether Patricia was the “Queen Bee” of sex slaves is irrelevant in this case because all of the extraordinary cyberslave activities was legal, according to Sherman. “Patricia’s case concerns whether she entered into unlawful cyber chat, and I don’t think she did.”
Prosecutors made Miller a plea agreement with probation and a jail sentence that was suspended at her most recent court appearance. Miller said she was not interested in taking the offer.
Sherman stated on Wednesday that he hoped to settle the lawsuit without a trial, but predicted Dent would testify if it did. Sherman predicted that Mr. Dent would be required to give a testimony. Miller must return to court on September 1.

Comic Book Hero is coming this September
Comic Book Hero is coming this September
When it comes to the history of British comics you will often come across the name of Barrie Tomlinson. As a writer and editor he impacted the British comics scene with such title as Death Wish, Survival, Tiger, Scream, Dan Dare, Ghost Squad, Eagle, and Scorer for the Daily Mirror. Now he plans to release a new book, Comic Book Hero, which tells of his days as editor of some of Britain’s most…

Consumer Guide / No.82 / Roy Of The Rovers & Tiger group editor Barrie Tomlinson with Mark Watkins.
MW : Where do you live and what do you enjoy doing in the area?
BT : We moved to Yorkshire at the end of 2018. It’s my wife’s county and I’m really enjoying it here. I like walking but I can only manage short distances these days. I like eating out and there’s a great selection of pubs and restaurants in this area.
MW : How did you get started in the world of comics?
BT : I saw an advertisement saying ‘Beginners wanted for children’s comics’. I was seeking a job in journalism and this seemed a good opportunity. I found I fitted in to the world of comics and the rest, as they say, is history.
I started as a sub-editor on Lion, then moved to Tiger. I eventually became editor of Tiger, then launched Roy of the Rovers as a separate title and became group editor of the sport and adventure department at IPC Magazines.
I launched the new Eagle, Scream, Speed, Wildcat, Mask, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles and worked on lots of annuals and specials.
A comic editor’s job is to decide on the format of a title and the sort of stories to be included. Then the editor has to choose his team of writers and artists. I was very lucky that I had the use of a very successful and experienced team of contributors and it was the editor’s task to select the team and then work closely with them on story developments and what happens next. In my case, I liked to include events which would get us good publicity in the media. That was a very important and I had a particularly good relationship with newspapers, radio and television.
MW : Explain IPC and Fleetway…
BT : When I first joined the comics in 1961 it was at Fleetway Publications. This later became part of IPC Magazines but the Fleetway name was retained. IPC standing for International Publishing Corporation.
MW : Roy Race first appeared in Tiger in the 1950's. How did you and others pull of his ageless effect and over several decades?
BT : The great joy of being a hero in a comic is that the hero doesn’t have to age. (Unlike comic editors!). But Roy did age a bit at first, starting as a lad straight from school, then growing up and getting into the first team. When I decided that Roy would have a life off the football pitch, as well as on it, he became the first boys’ comic hero to get married and became a dad. - that aged him a bit!
MW : How did the name "Melchester Rovers" come about?
BT : I don’t know the answer to that. In 1954, Tiger editor Derek Birnage and Roy writer Frank Pepper would have thought that up, before my time on comics. I do know that the name 'Roy of the Rovers' was first suggested by Lion editor Bernard Smith.
MW : Name your favourite Melchester Rovers team…
BT : That’s a bit impossible. All the players were my favourites but I guess the side would have to include Roy, Blackie Gray and Tubby Morton, as well as the real life players I signed: Emlyn Hughes, Bob Wilson, Steve Norman and Martin Kemp.
MW : Tell me about some of your star writers...
BT : When England goalie Gordon Banks won the Tiger sports Star of the Year competition, I presented him with the trophy and asked if he’d like to write for Tiger. He quickly agreed and I introduced the idea of top sports stars writing for Tiger. Jackie Charlton, Mike Channon, Malcolm Macdonald and Trevor Francis were some of the other footballers who wrote for Tiger over the years.
In fact, “Trev's” contributions to Tiger were always popular. I visited him and his wife in the USA when he was playing for Detroit Express and got some memorable Tiger photos.
MW : Did they write their own columns?
BT :  The sports stars provided their own copy.  Most times, I left the choice of subject to them but on special occasions I would suggest a theme for a special article.  That worked  very well. Fortunately, all the stars who wrote for us were enthusiastic fans of Tiger, which helped a lot.
MW : Tiger covered a range of sports, including cricket with columns from  Tony Greig and Geoffrey Boycott..
BT : Yes, Geoffrey Boycott was the first cricket star to write for Tiger and we had a long, happy association with him.  He eventually became Chairman of Melchester Rovers and I edited The Geoff Boycott annual for Fleetway.
Other big cricket names who became Tiger writers included Tony Greig, Ian Botham, David Gower and Dickie Bird.
Talking of cricket in Tiger, I’m rather proud that it was my idea for Billy Dane, star of the brilliant Billy’s Boots story, to start playing cricket in the summer!
MW : Tell me about the time when two pop stars signed for Roy's team...
BT : Spandau Ballet was a massively popular band at the time and the Roy circulation was just starting to be in line with the general trend of falling circulations in the comics world. I thought the extra publicity we got by signing Steve Norman and Martin Kemp was well worth it. And remember, of course, they were actually very good footballers!
MW : Tell me about Mike Read’s involvement with The Eagle...
BT : Listening to Mike Read on the radio, I knew he was a big fan of comics so when I launched the new Eagle, he was a natural to write for us. I felt this was a good move as it not only gave us a popular writer but it meant we would get the occasional mention on Mike’s radio show. It was always my policy to involve star names in my titles and it’s something I did on Eagle until I was told by management that I was too starstruck and told to remove all the big names who wrote for us. I was not a happy group editor!
MW : How did you usually plan the content for your comics?
BT : It was my job as editor to work out the format of each title. How much feature material and how many picture-strips. With new titles I quite often thought up each story and sometimes wrote the first instalments myself. I was given great freedom to do what I wanted. For PR events or major developments I would always consult the editorial director and usually got great support from him.
When I produced Scream from my group that all changed and the editorial contents were challenged by management, which made it a very difficult title to edit. Previously all my titles had been safe family buys but Scream was a bit different. Despite having a short life, I think we produced a good title which is still well remembered.
MW : Did any celebrities on the covers at Christmas become your friends?
BT : Yes. Ernie Wise was a good friend and he always attended Tiger functions. Geoffrey Boycott is also a good friend and we still keep in touch. Big Daddy the wrestler was also a mate and I worked closely with him on The Big Daddy Annual. Travelling around with him, it was clear to see how much the public loved him. I once gave him a lift in my car and the front seat was never the same again!
MW : Were Shoot! rivals?
BT : When Tiger editor David Gregory became editor of Shoot!, he recommended that I took over Tiger. Shoot was much more of a feature title so it wasn’t really a rival. But I was delighted when we beat them to get the scoop of first printing colour photos of Gordon Banks’ amazing save from Pele, in the 1970 World Cup.
MW : Tell me about (Shoot!) cartoonist Styx...
BT : Styx was another very good friend of mine. I first met Leslie Harding when I finished my national service. He taught me a lot about humour and I was delighted when he started drawing cartoons for my titles. He went on to Shoot! and worked as their regular cartoonist.
MW : Were Fleetway annuals mostly new material created for the Christmas market, or utilising leftover features from the year?
BT : The annuals were mostly new material. With regular contributors busy working on the weekly titles, it was a good chance to try out new contributors in the annuals.
We had to plan the annuals well in advance and it was sometimes difficult to include topical items, as the annuals would go to press many months in advance of their publication date.
I enjoyed editing the star names feature annuals, such as The Geoff Boycott Annual, The Big Daddy Annual and The Suzie Dando Annual. They were a bit different from the things I normally worked on.
MW : Tell me about your new books on sale now…
BT : There are two books on sale now: ‘Real Roy of the Rovers Stuff’ tells how I made Roy a star. There are lots of photographs and it’s the real, true story of all the big events in Roy’s career.
‘Comic Book Hero’ is about all the other titles I edited. Again, that’s full of photos and ideal for anyone who read my titles as a youngster. I’m working on my third book which will be life story, including another big section on comics.
MW : What are your other interests?
BT : I should do more reading! I still enjoy listening to the old big band music and Ruby Murray songs (always my favourite). Of today’s stars, I like listening to Eliza, Bruce Springsteen (my wife insisted I included him) and radio shows like Mike Read’s on United DJs Radio.
https://www.uniteddj.com/
https://twitter.com/MikeReadUK
I’ve taken up painting and we have joined a local group. I find painting very relaxing but I’ve got a lot to learn! I still enjoy writing.
I also like keeping in touch with people on Twitter. It’s good to chat to people who were readers of my comics.
 https://twitter.com/BarrieEditor1
MW : BBC 5 Live or Talksport?
BT : BBC 5 Live, because that’s the station which wakes me up in the morning and I sort of stay with that.
MW : If Roy Race was on Desert Island Discs, what would be his book, record and luxury item choices?
BT : I’m talking about the old Roy here. His book would certainly be 'Real Roy of the Rovers Stuff' by Barrie Tomlinson! His record would probably be something by Mariah Carey. Luxury item would be a radio, so he could listen to commentary on Melchester Rovers matches.
MW : What are your greatest achievements?
BT : Making Roy the most famous footballer in Britain! Persuading the Duke of Edinburgh to write an article for the first issue of Roy of the Rovers. Persuading Sir Alf Ramsey to take over as manager of Melchester Rovers after Roy was shot. Achieving my ambition of relaunching Eagle and seeing it last 11 years. Taking Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles comic to over 700,000 copies per issue, at a time when most circulations were struggling.
MW : What did you do after working on comics?
BT : I was very lucky that just as the comics were being taken away from me, I was asked by the Daily Mirror to produce a football strip for them. ‘Scorer’ was the title of the strip and it featured the adventures of footballer Dave Story and his many girlfriends. The strip was a combination of football and glamour and it proved very popular, starting as a single strip, then a double strip, then a treble. It appeared six days a week for 22 years. That’s over 6,000 instalments. I wrote and produced every episode of the strip, selling it to the Mirror as a finished job. I worked with contributors I knew from the world of comics, including artists John Gillatt, David Sque and David Pugh.

Top 6 might see a bit of a shuffle in this round
Dirkie Grove won the with 14 points ! Tyron & I scored 7 and Dirk managed 6. Tyron and I lost a place and Dirk stayed in 59th.
Cardiff City – Everton
Tyron
CAR 0 – 1 EVE
Tough one to pick, but I think it could be the game Everton finally get an away win at
Dirk
CAR 1 – 2 EVE
Cardiff have lost a bit of momentum and Everton need some points to get something of worth from their season. Everton to win.
Marcel
CAR 0 – 1 EVE
I have no confidence in this Everton team but surely they can muster an effort in Wales
Huddersfield – Wolves
Tyron
HUD 0 – 2 WOL
Wolves are far to good for Championship bound Huddersfield
Dirk
HUD 0 – 1 WOL
Wolves lost their hold on 7th to Watford and will be looking to get back that posiiton as the best of the rest.
Marcel
HUD 0 – 2 WOL
sHuddersfield will need some real Roy of the Rovers type stuff to escape relegation starting here. I can’t see it happening.
PUMA FUTURE 19.1 FG field tested
Leicester – Brighton
Tyron
LEI 1 – 0 BRI
Leicester will probably produce a fantastic performance now that Puel is gone
Dirk
LEI 1 – 1 BRI
Managerless Leicester I can see dropping points to Brighton here. They’ll hold on for a point.
Marcel
LEI 1 – 0 BRI
Time to see if the players have what it takes to cement a top 10 finish
Newcastle – Burnley
Tyron
NEW 1  – 1 BUR
Really tough to call, I think Newcastle will be up for the game, but Burnley are in superb form
Dirk
NEW 2  – 2 BUR
Both teams are in a decent bit of form, and I can see it being an entertaining draw.
Marcel
NEW 1  – 2 BUR
Burnley in a nice purple patch of form, should see off Newcastle but it will be a dogfight
Arsenal – Bournemouth
Tyron
ARS 2 – 0 BOU
Arsenal at home.
Dirk
ARS 2 – 1 BOU
Arsenal have a serious opportunity to get top 4 and they need to win as much as possible to put pressure on Spurs and Man United. A home win is a good start.
Marcel
ARS 2 – 1 BOU
Arsenal to score more freely at home but still have the same defense.
Southampton – Fulham
Tyron
SOU 2 – 1 FUL
Saints will be tested by Fulham but I think they could pull away in the relegation battle
Dirk
SOU 2 – 1 FUL
This is an important fixture for both teams, and 3 points for the Saints could put them on track for survival.
Marcel
SOU 2 – 1 FUL
The man with the bunny house for a name should wring a point out of this fixture. The Saints just have more goal scorers in their squad.
Chelsea – Spurs
Tyron
CHE 1 – 2 TOT
Spurs extra day of rest I think will see them beat Chelsea
Dirk
CHE 1 – 2 TOT
Can Chelsea turn things around? It doesn’t feel like it, Spurs to nick it.
Marcel
CHE 0 – 2 TOT
Chelsea didn’t concede in their Cup Final on Sunday but Spurs had a match on Saturday
Crystal Palace – Man. United
Tyron
CRY 1 – 2 MUN
United may have endured injury hell, but they should have enough to beat the Palace
Dirk
CRY 2 – 1 MUN
I know this prediction will be a shock pick but I can see Zaha putting in a massive game here, and with United a bit light after a few injuries it has the feeling of an upset.
Marcel
CRY 0 – 2 MUN
I think OGS will have to bring some of the exciting youth talent into this match. Could go either way with Palace scoring freely at the moment
Liverpool – Watford
Tyron
LIV 2 – 0 WAT
Pool to find form again, probably
Dirk
LIV 2 – 1 WAT
Liverpool need a win, and even though Watford are in decent form I think at home Liverpool will sneak it.
Marcel
LIV 1 – 1 WAT
I thought Liverpool lacked commitment and effort against United, Watford won’t. Deeney to trouble the centre backs
Man City – West Ham
Tyron
MCY 2 – 0 WHM
Too easy for City at home
Dirk
MCY 2 – 0 WHM
City are a team in form and the cup will add a bounce to their step, definite win for the reigning champions.
Marcel
MCY 3 – 1 WHM
Fresh from their farmers cup win, City will hope to resume their chase for the only English trophy that matters.
Join the fun by signing up to our Superbru league

Liverpool 5-2 Roma: Win unlike any football I
Liverpool 5-2 Roma: Win unlike any football I
Liverpool 5-2 Roma: Win unlike any football I
Liverpool are the highest goalscorers in the Champions League this season with 44 goals in 11 games
The way Liverpool ripped Roma apart at Anfield was unlike any football I have ever known.
I have thought the same about Premier League champions Manchester City at times this season, in that they have been playing so well that it does not seem real.
Liverpool have put on some brilliant displays in the Champions League before now in 2017-18 but, when I was watching Jurgen Klopp’s side on Tuesday night, I could not comprehend it.
When they went 5-0 up. I was left thinking ‘is this really happening?’
It was just so easy for Liverpool to play through the Italian side and it was totally contrary to what we are used to seeing in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
With my school of thinking – and I have won the European Cup – that normally doesn’t happen at this stage of the competition. It shouldn’t do.
Salah put Liverpool ahead with a brilliant curling shot into to the top corner. In total he had four efforts at the Roma, all of which were on target, and scored with two of them. He also made two assists for Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino
Of course Roma’s two late goals have shifted the momentum slightly, because the game ended on a high note for them, not the Reds.
It also adds a question mark for the second leg at Stadio Olimpico on 2 May.
Despite their recent improvement at the back we are still not absolutely sure about Liverpool defensively and maybe there is a small element of doubt about what happens next.
At the same time, I am thinking that if they get an away goal, it is all over. And you have to fancy Klopp’s side to score in Rome, you really do.
Not only are the Reds the highest scorers in this year’s Champions League, with 44 goals in 11 games, they will be up against a Roma team that has to push on and come at them.
It is very difficult playing a game where you know you need three goals but an away goal will kill you, especially against a team like Liverpool, whose strength is scoring.
How do Roma set themselves up, needing goals, but knowing what Liverpool’s attack can do to them? It is a huge ask for them.
‘Salah is basically on another planet’
‘Standout’ Salah wins PFA Player of the Year award
Mohamed Salah’s story is Roy of the Rovers stuff. He is having an absolutely outstanding season and it keeps getting better for him.
He has been in spectacular form for months now, then finds himself in the semi-final of the Champions League and playing against his old club.
I just thought Roma would have him absolutely shackled, but obviously they didn’t. His two goals and two assists were proof of that.
He is part of a front three that is fit and fast and, in his case, in the form of their lives – in fact, Salah is basically on another planet.
How Salah compares with the world’s best Player Games played Goals Assists Shot conversion rate Chances created Shots on target Salah 47 43 13 23.89 87 90 Ronaldo 39 42 8 16.22 53 111 Messi 50 40 18 14.81 112 127 Neymar 30 28 16 20.59 98 63
I know some people felt Kevin de Bruyne should have won the Player of the Year award but you cannot really argue with the result after seeing Salah put in performances like this one.
The goals keep coming and, with 43 for the season, he is closing in on Ian Rush’s record of 47 goals in all competitions in 1983-84, the year I won the European Cup with Liverpool.
Playing with Rushie, it felt like he was going to score every time he got a sight of goal – like Salah is now.
Roberto Firmino was outstanding on Tuesday night too. Since Philippe Coutinho went, he has been unbelievable. He has been obviously been in the shadow of Salah, but what a player he has been.
Some fans have been moaning abut Sadio Mane’s form, saying he is not doing this or that – but he only looks ordinary in comparison to the other two, and the standards they are setting.
Put that trio together, and I cannot think of a better front three I have seen in British football.
‘Roma’s record means fans are unsure’
Tuesday’s game was a little bit Klopp-ish with the way Liverpool left everyone breathless with a burst of attacks and scored five goals in less than 40 minutes, before they had a couple of wobbles.
Then everyone was suddenly thinking about getting through the second leg rather than enjoying how special this display was.
But if you had offered Liverpool the chance to win by three goals before the game, everyone would have said what a fantastic result. I am sure Bayern Munich would take that outcome against Real Madrid in Wednesday’s semi-final.
It is just because of the way the Liverpool-Roma game, and the goals, went that leaves people thinking ‘hold on, I’m not sure’.
Roma recovered from losing 4-1 to Barcelona in the first leg of their quarter-final, winning the return 3-0 to reach the last four
Roma’s record plays a part too. They beat Barcelona 3-0 at home to overturn a 4-1 deficit in the quarter-finals and you could argue it would be one of the biggest results in the history of European football if they did it again against Liverpool too.
It would be a disaster if Liverpool went out now but if I was part of this Reds team, and heading for Rome with a 5-2 aggregate lead, I would be confident of making progress.
I can understand if Liverpool fans are a little bit apprehensive because they conceded so early on in the second leg against City, who should have been 2-0 up by half-time of that game.
Will Roma get chances? Absolutely. Are they as good as City? No.
But that does not mean Liverpool can take anything for granted about getting through the second leg and reaching the final on 26 May
‘Why Reds do not lack belief under Klopp’
There’s still work to do in Rome – Klopp
I was expecting Roma to be a lot better defensively at Anfield but they still gave Liverpool a scare before the Reds took control of the tie.
With the score at 0-0, Loris Karius let Aleksandar Kolarov’s shot through his hands and on to the bar – if that goes in, it is a real game-changer – the whole night is very different.
As a player, when you are in big games and think you have got away with something like Liverpool did there, you start thinking that you are going to win.
I don’t think belief is much of a problem for this Liverpool side anyway, though, because Klopp is like their 12th man – he gives them this absolute total belief that they can do anything.
He also has them playing 100% the way he wants – with the gegenpress and their runs in behind the opposition defence, they are searching for a weak link all of the time. Every team has one, and at the moment Liverpool seem to be able to find it.
Would I say that Real or Bayern are brilliant defensively? No.
In the games where Liverpool have scored lots of goals, they have also totally dominated the ball.
Bayern and Real are used to doing that every week so, looking forward, possession will be the key if Klopp’s team make it to Kiev – they should do from here.
Mark Lawrenson was speaking to BBC Sport’s Chris Bevan.
