The pink city to hold 8th Theatre Olympics 2018.

This time Jaipur(The pink city) is one of the co-hosts of the largest international Theatre festival which is going to be held in India for the first time.The Jaipur chapter of Theatre Olympics (2018) is organized by National School of Drama (NSD) under the aegis of Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Ravindra Manch Society and state art and culture department of the Rajasthan Government.

The theme of the festival is "Flag of Friendship", in which 30 countries across the globe have participated. “This 8th international Theatre Olympics is a great opportunity to highlight the cultural heritage of Rajasthan.  We hope that this prestigious festival will give a boost to the folk and theatre performers in the nation,” said NSD registrar Pradeep Kumar Mohanty at the press conference held in Jaipur. The state has numerous indigenous folk and theatre art forms, the popular ones include puppet dance, Kalbelia, Ghoomar.Various other folk art forms like Swaang, Gawri among others will be showcased during this festival. The theme of the festival is "Flag of Friendship", in which 30 countries across the globe have participated (which includes Patna, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Imphal, Varanasi, Chandigarh, and Thiruvananthapuram) in India with more than 25,000 artists performing 450 shows, 600 ambience performances and 250 youth shows. Jaipur will stage about  15 plays on international, national and folk theatre forms from 18 March to 1 April. The pink city will witness a total of  15 plays over the fortnight, including six, especially invited plays such as Bali directed by K S Rajendran, Gokulmirgamana directed by B V Karanth etcetera, it also includes other folk performances and international productions. The NSD director, Prof Waman Kendre, said in a statement that, they had the dream to bring Theatre Olympics to India from past 3 years. The dream that they had seen has now come true. He described how the playwright like Shakespeare and Bertolt Brecht became the part of Indian Theatre, the similar impact can be laid as well in our own theatrical performances and playwrights.
