Author commentary: Dave's wallpaper is from an old comic I did about rappers, and he appears to sport some sort of mock Windows 7 OS deal. And the slick as hell Pesterchum 7.0, choice of coolkids everywhere. Also this conversation is kind of interesting because as the story moves along, John kind of smooths out slightly into more of a straight man to the ridiculous ravings of others, but in this first conversation there was more of a smartass give-and-take. John makes some pretty sassy quips here. I like the "15th day in a row" line, which makes sense since I was the one who actually said it in a real conversation about this.

Herndon folytatja a Platformon megkezdett utat, a mesterséges intelligencia humanizálásának vizsgálatát, ezúttal nagyon sok emberi hanggal, énekkel, kórussal, továbbra is elvarázsoltan, behatárolhatatlanul. Amilyenek a dalai, olyat tud kamarahangszerelésben is. Éjszaka a tökéletes hallgatni.
A These New Puritansek kezdettől drukkere vagyok, mindegyik lemezt szerettem, de egyik se olyan jó, amilyent elképzelek, hogy tudnának.
Ezek tetszettek a legjobban áprilisban.

Been tinkering with my alignment after hours, my god what a difference! via /r/cars
Been tinkering with my alignment after hours, my god what a difference!
So I work as apprentice mechanic and have full access to the shop after hours. I'm trying not to spend to much money on mods after wheels, tires, and clutch so instead I've been fiddling with the alignment.
Suspension is all factory track pack and the alignment is all factory. Tires are 285/35R19 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 on all 4 (fantastic tire for the price) First I set my toe to 0.00 (factory is 0.1 toe in). It darted around the road a bit but the steering response and turn in was absolutely fantastic from just such a simple adjustment.
I did a custom alignment on my buddies Mustang and set his camber to -2.0 and he's been raving about it since. I decided to spend $40 on some camber bolts and aimed for -1.5, I hit -1.7 so close enough. The high speed steering stability has improved drastically but I lost the quick turn in and the car no longer darted around. But I could take corners significantly faster than normal. I could take corners where the recommended speed is 35mph at around 80mph but I noticed I was getting a touch of understeer around there (but no tire squeal).
Today I set my toe to 0.15 Toe out. Camber is the same at -1.7 and caster (not adjustable) is at the factory +7.0. Rear axle is not adjustable. I've regained my quick steering and gained some more steering response. Its not as quick as when I had 0.00 toe and factory -0.5 Camber but still fantastic. It also doesn't dart around very much despite the 285 tires. Now those same corners I'm taking at nearly 100mph (well exiting at those speeds, entry speed is around 65 and I build up speed mid corner to try and find the limit).
Also before anyone says "driving to fast on public roads" this is an empty road that leads no where, locals call it "The Racetrack". Cops know about and don't care, no businesses or houses there. It's not great for a spirited drive IMO as it's way to short (like a mile or so) but fantastic for testing.
I highly suggest after doing tires, really look into custom alignment instead of dropping thousands on suspension mods. I know I'm in a better position as I can fiddle with it multiple times a day and fine tune how I want it to drive vs having to pay $100 every time you want another tweak or having to rely on shops that don't specialize in custom work (my shop doesn't, it's just me fiddling around).

Electric Leaf Blowers Are So Great!
If you're tired of mixing gas and oil and smelling the noxious odors of gas blowers, I urge you to invest in an electric blower. When it comes to Toro electric leaf blowers, customers rave about the performance they offer. Recent reviews have called it the best garden tool around.
Toro's electric leaf blower has officially proven that gas-powered models are more powerful and that this is just a myth. Without the mess of mixing gas and oil and the toxic smell, you can get just as much, if not more, performance with an electric blower.
With the best electric blower, you can conveniently maintain and improve the quality of your environment and surroundings. This 2-speed motor allows you to accomplish any task. It is very easy to use because it weighs only a few pounds.
It's so easy to use because it's only 4.6 pounds, so light that anyone can handle and operate it. Whether you need to reach areas in depth or height, you can perform any maneuver thanks to its light weight. Therefore, unlike heavier blowers, your arms and hands will not be overworked or strained.
You can move freely from one area to the next, as it has a 50-foot cord and a cord lock system that you can plug in anywhere with the 2-pin connector. For far-flung areas, the electric leaf blower can easily be connected to an extension cord.
The Toro electric leaf blower has a maximum air speed of 160 miles per hour (MPH) and a minimum of 130 (MPH). With an airflow of 155 (CFM). This combination of two speeds and air volume is a versatile and robust performer. You decide how much power you want to use in different areas and let the machine do all the hard work.
The two-piece unit is easy to store, as it simply clips together and comes apart. You can easily store it in the closet, toolbox or garage, or hang it from any hook.
The 7.0 amp motor produces more than adequate power for an electric blower with the comfort of low noise DBA. This gives you, your ears and your neighbors peace of mind while the unit is running. The noise level is the same as that of a household hair dryer.

Heat up about 4 gallons of water for the mash up to 170F add the grains and let fall to 160F keep at that temp for 30 min. Remove grains and bring to a boil.
Bring to a boil for 60 min.
Step 2
0.5 oz – Nelson Sauvin [12.0%] – First Wort (Hops)
Add at beginning of boil.
Step 3
2.0 oz – Hallertauer, New Zealand [8.5%] – Boil 10 min (Hops)
1.0 oz – Motueka [7.0%] – Boil 10 min (Hops)
0.5 oz – Nelson Sauvin [12.0%] – Boil 10 min (Hops)
Add at 10 min to the end of boil.
Fermentation Through Bottling New Zealand Beer Recipe
Transfer the wort into the primary fermenting vessel, then top off with cold water to 5.25 gallons.
Aerate the wort at this point. This can be accomplished with an aeration stone or simply by rocking the fermenter back and forth once the lid is in place.
This is the time that you will want to take a specific gravity reading. Use a hydrometer and record the reading. Your targeted gravity levels though temperature will affect so you just need within range.
Step 5
Once the wort is cooled to around 72° F, it is safe to pitch the yeast. Pitch according the proper procedures of the type of yeast you have.
1 pkgs – Safale American (DCL/Fermentis #US-05) (Yeast)
Prepare a yeast starter by stirring the yeast into 2 cups of water then let mixture stand in cup for 15 minutes, make sure it is bubbling and then you will add it to your beer after the beer has cooled.
Clean the berries then crack open and add to the carboy.
Fermentation
Fermentation will last for for 4 days at suggested temp on package.
Make sure your carboy is around a third empty leaving space for frothing and foaming.
Step 6
2.0 oz – Hallertauer, New Zealand [8.5%] – Dry Hop 5 days (Hops)
1.0 oz – Motueka [7.0%] – Dry Hop 5 days (Hops)
After primary fermentation rack into your secondary carboy and let sit for another 5 days.
The less exposure to oxygen the better it will taste so be careful when you rack.
Add your hops to the secondary carboy.
Step 7
3/4 cups of sugar
Add priming sugar before bottling.
Prime and bottle. When priming, dissolve corn sugar or dry malt extract in two pints of boiling water for 5 minutes.
Pour this mixture into the empty bottling bucket and siphon the beer from the fermenter over it.
This method ensures that the priming sugar will disperse evenly through your beer.
For proper carbonation, store your beer at 75° for at least the first week after bottling.
This will allow the yeast to feed on the priming sugar and produce the necessary carbon dioxide needed for carbonation.
Congratulations, You Have Completed Making this Awesome Honey Amber Beer!
You now need a bottle and a label which are cool enough to compliment your hard work. Honestly, if you put it into a cheap bottle, people will make fun of you. BUT, if it looks good, people will rave about it!

DAVID KUBINEC :: Some Things Never Change ~ 7.8 | “More Ego” (single) ~ 7.0
A&M | SP-4766
Philips | 6017 259
On the front cover of Some Things Never Change, David Kubinec antagonistically points at the music lover holding the record. With popped collar and raised eyebrows, captured mid-rebuke, he strikes a confrontational pose. He looks a little older and not terribly cool, but he wants to prove his worth to the listener. And he does: he ably rocks with glam sensibilities and a dash of punk attitude. Throughout the record, he uses both technique and sheer rawness to achieve a vocal style that is ragged in the best sense. A light effect is typically applied to Kubinec's voice, but the instruments always sound punchy and natural. The music breathes. The album could be used as a reference recording to demonstrate stereo equipment. My copy is also exceptionally clean and free of surface noise, easily one of the best sounding records in my collection.
A vivid portrait of life on the road, the opener "Another Lone Ranger" addresses expectations, angst, and doubt. Kubinec really goes for it vocally and I get the sense that he's accepted his nomadic life and wouldn't have it any other way (the reflective, almost country-like "Comin' Home" is a hopeful sequel). He's playfully poetic about his adoration of the unattainable on the title track ("I ain't no fanatic, ecclesiastic, or Captain Fantastic, no nothing that drastic"), the chorus of which is one giant knockout hook. His writing is also sharp on "Love in the First Degree," which contains some subtle UFO sounds after Kubinec declares that "not even Captain Kirk could beam me up." This track is very airy with lots of space (one drum fill is a single timbale hit) and a bit wobbly thanks to its odd descending bass line. Some serious existential dread is confronted on "Out in the Rain," which begins with heavy organ and warpath snare drum before transforming into an "All the Young Dudes"-type anthem. As Kubinec howls the song title in the home stretch, it sounds like he's being dissolved by acid rain. The snare rolls return with loudly honking bagpipes as he's stomped into the road in a nightmarish parade march. The album's razor edge becomes a little dull on side B. "Sit on It" is a sleazy rocker that is largely indecipherable (what "pterodactyl on the trampoline" means should probably remain a mystery). Atmosphere seems to be more important than lyrics in the waltz-time number "On the Edge of the Floor." Again, many of its lines are difficult to decipher, and Kubinec can't help but crack up when delivering them. It may be purposefully obscure ("heavy on the rhythm but light on the rhyme" is one phrase I could make out), but it features a swirling arrangement and seductive little melody. Chris Spedding has a moment to shine near the end of "Tear Myself Away," a rockabilly thing that's fun but feels like a disposable genre exercise. "The Elf Sires" is a clever bit of songcraft: Kubinec's career framed as an ancient fable. He begins as a young, wide-eyed fan and is eventually swept up in the business, making music himself and witnessing what really happens behind the curtain. Through ups and downs, he becomes savvy and slightly bitter, repeating "I was better off alone but we've got to progress" as a kind of twisted mantra to push himself forward. Near the end, the song spirals into a cacophonous racket, indicating that the tale doesn't end happily, but it's a powerful closer to a lean and mean album that was unfairly lost in the shuffle.
A couple years after Kubinec's LP, a single inexplicably appeared in the Netherlands. Upon first listen, it's a bit of letdown, only because it sounds like it was recorded in the janitor's closet of the studio where Some Things Never Change was created. The single is self-produced and credited to "Kuby," suggesting an artistic retreat. Nonetheless, with repeated spins, the tunes slowly emerge from the murk. "More Ego" contains a classic '60s-sounding melody backed with the kind of ska bounce that Joe Jackson honed around the time of Beat Crazy. "We don't need more ego" is the song's central theme, but Kubinec pronounces "ego" with a short “e,” making it sound like he’s singing about the popular frozen waffle. Perhaps he had his eye on jingle writing. Pronunciation quirks aside, if there is a Kuby earworm, "More Ego" is most definitely it. Serve it with maple syrup and fruit topping, and your guests will rave. The verse of "The Little Ships" is trademark Kubinec and would have sat comfortably on Some Things Never Change. When a twangy guitar plays the main riff in the fist-pumping refrain, the strings are plucked with such exaggerated force that it sounds like they're going to pop right off the fretboard. You probably won’t find it thumbing through used 45s at your local record shop, but it’s a neat curiosity in this era of Kubinec’s recorded work.

A Man-szigetekről! (Ja, és van pár tökjó reggaeton-lemez, nem kamu!)
Ezek tetszettek a legjobban júniusban.

PROPORTIONATE RESPONSE
The term “proportionate response” has been mentioned many times in recent days. Motivated by the Soleimani assassination. So much so I decided it was time to take a closer look at the term.
Proportionate response is generally defined: When someone initiates an attack against you, a proportionate response is one that suffices to prevent further attacks.
May not sound like it, but the definition is interpreted to mean “tit for tat.” Equal destruction.
When the term first came into use was difficult to ascertain. Some believe it was first mentioned in the popular TV show The West Wing in its 10/6/99 episode. Recall the series. Martin Sheen starred.
Could have been earlier. I have no idea.
Chapter VII-Article 51 of the UN Charter is relied on for proportional retaliation. I reread it several times. Did not understand it at all. Could not even figure out what it had to do with proportionate response. Gobbly gook as far as I was concerned.
The term or policy was not in vogue at the time of World War II. Imagine if the U.S. response to Pearl Harbor was the bombing of Tokyo Harbor.
The U.S. response was Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan has neither attacked nor threatened anyone since. Nor has any war broken out comparable to World War II.
Recall Carthage attacked Rome. Rome wiped Carthage off the face of the earth. For centuries thereafter, it was Pax Romano. The Rome peace.
Germany sunk a lot of U.S. ships and then declared war on the U.S. In return, the U.S. flattened Germany’s cities, killed or captured hundreds of thousands of its soldiers, and occupied its land.
I don’t buy proportionate response. You hit me, I am going to hit you back harder. Making sure you become reluctant to ever screw with me again. Cannot say it any simpler.
That is the way the U.S. should function. No sense in being the strongest nation in the world if the strength is not used.
Iran lives to fight another day. Afghanistan has been doing so for 20 years. Iraq for a long time also. Not the way. Demolish the enemy in the first instance. Make them fearful of ever attacking the U.S. in any fashion again.
From Iran, etc. to Duval Street. The issues not the same, however.
There are 16 empty rentals on Duval. The message?
Cuban cigar making took off in Cuba. Why didn’t it stay in Cuba? What was the motivation for it to move to Key West?
The 1860’s, 1870’s and 1880’s found Cubans moving to the U.S. to work in the cigar making business. The Key West cigar industry was growing. Tobacco factory owners imported tobacco from Cuba, rolled the cigars in Key West.
The move re making the cigars involved money. It was expensive to sell Cuban cigars in the U.S. Custom duties the problem. If the cigars were made in the U.S., the Key West cigar was cheaper and competitive in the market place. Ergo, Key West cigar making flourished.
By 1871, more than 2,000 Cubans had immigrated to Key West to work in the cigar factories. They were producing 62 million cigars a year.
Key West became a rich community. It was recognized as the Cigar Manufacturing Capital of the World.
By the 1880’s, one third of the residents of Key West had been born in Cuba. Welcomed by those already living on the island. The Cuban immigrants came to work in the cigar factories. They offered no competition to those who lived in Key West. They offered no danger. The Cubans were not interested in working in the wrecker or sponge businesses.
Cigar making brought a side benefit. The odor of the tobacco leafs and the cigar making itself produced a smell. An enjoyable flavored one. It covered the island. No one complained. It was the smell of history.
This weekend the annual Florida Keys Seafood Festival. Bayview Park. Saturday and sunday.
The freshest seafood will have been caught, prepared and served by local fishermen and their families.
Entertainment also.
Admission $5. Children under 12 free.
Go! A great time!
The Philippine volcano is spewing. Expected to be a sizable eruption.
The Philippine eruption is merely the most recent natural disaster. This past week, earthquakes in Puerto Rico. Wildfires ongoing in Australia. California wildfires. Seasonal hurricanes. Tornadoes becoming a weekly event.
Climate Change? Or is nothing different from days past. I wonder if we are concerned about what is occurring today because we know about it. Between TV and the internet, we are aware quickly as to what is occurring and we see it generally same day on television.
Or a combination of ordinary nature and climate change?
Just wondering.
Remember the earthquake that ravaged Haiti on 1/12/2010. A 7.0. Several aftershocks. All 4.5 or more.
The island was wiped out. Its residents in extreme distress. Deaths exceeded 100,00. Mass graves had to be utilized.
The U.S. contribution in aid Haiti at the time totaled $884 million.
Haiti’s recovery was slow. Very slow. When Obama was President, he provided additional U.S. assistance. He sent thousands of troops and tons of aid.
Would Obama’s type of assistance happen today? Absolutely not. Trump already exhibited where is heart is with Puerto Rico. He made clear what his position was in his first State of the Union address. He spoke of his “America First” theme. He proclaimed his dislike of programs such as humanitarian aid aimed largely at countries in Latin America.
Big football game last night. I missed it. LSU is the new College Champion. Beat Clemson 42-25.
Sport reports this morning are touting LSU as the greatest college football team of all time.
Tonight my blog talk radio show. Tuesday Talk with Key West Lou. Join me at 9 my time. A lot to talk about. A lot for me to rant and rave about. www.blogtalkradio.com/key-west-lou.
Enjoy your day!

Road Tests: 2019 Toyota RAV4
Vital Statistics
Engine: 2.5 liter
Horsepower: 203
Torque: 184 lb-ft.
EPA: 26 mpg city / 35 highway
The original Toyota RAV4 was introduced here in 1996, and went on to play a major roll in launching the crossover craze that continues to accelerate in 2019. Now, the 5th gen of Toyota’s compact ute has arrived. And the all-new RAV’s reviews are already raves, including our pick as a best small utility of the year. So, let’s dive into the details of why.
Hard to believe the Toyota RAV4 has been on the road for well over 20-years now. During that time, the economy has been way up, and of course way down; and that was well before everyone had a smartphone in their hands.
Well, the first thing you’ll notice is that Toyota dialed up a seriously rugged new design for this generation of RAV, more than we’ve ever seen, including plenty of 4Runner cues. Hiking boots and cargo pants aren’t required to drive it, but they certainly wouldn’t be out of place; even if your adventures are limited to car pool lanes and suburban cull-de-sacs.
The front end is bigger and bolder, with a grille patterned after Toyota pickups; while the sides sport chunky fenders and clearly defined shoulders. Wheelbase is up about an inch.
The rear view is manly as well, featuring a big bumper with lots of simulated skid plate cladding.
The macho makeover doesn’t transfer over to the driving experience, however. We headed to California for our first drive opportunity. And while the seating position is high, with a generous amount of hood to look over, giving it a big truck feel; steering is very light, and handling is as predictable as a Camry.
There is plenty of engine noise under spirited acceleration; but once up to highway speed, things quiet down very nicely. While the standard 8-speed automatic transmission seems to quickly and easily find the right gear more often than not.
That noise emanates from the Camry’s 2.5-liter I4 engine; and output here is the same 203- horsepower and 184 lb-ft. of torque.
RAV4’s Government Fuel Economy Ratings are 26-City, 35-Highway, and 30-Combined with front-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive, depending on the model, they range from 25-27 City, 33-34 Highway, and 29-30 Combined. All on Regular gas.
A Hybrid version will also be available later in the model year.
Safety systems get an updrade, Toyota’s Safety Sense fortunately loses the P; now known as TSS 2.0, with Smart Stop Technology standard.
Obviously, sharing the Camry’s TNGA-K platform, means the Rav remains front-wheel-drive based, with all-wheel-drive for an additional $1,400, regardless of trim.
Save for the returing Adventure model, which now comes with AWD standard. That system is a new Dynamic Torque Vectoring one, with Rear Driveline Disconnect, and it’s shared with Limited trim.
All other trims get a more basic system, though it does include Multi-Terrain Select. Ground clearance is as high as 8.6-inches, half an inch more than before.
The interior design is clean, burly, and truck-like too, with a dash that is more horizontal than before, as well as physically lower to improve visibility.
The center stack houses plenty of large controls, while above sits a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen. Entune 3.0 Audio Plus adds another inch to the screen. It may not be our favorite multimedia system, but it’s fairly easy to learn the basics.
Rear seat passengers will get a better experience than before, with easier access and comfier seats; as well as more space due to the wheelbase stretch and reshaped door panels.
The cargo floor is longer, but either it sits higher up or the roof slants more dramatically, as the space is actually down a little from last year from 38.4 cubic-ft. to 37.6; though Toyota claims the available space is more usable than before. Max capacity is down from 73.4 to 69.8 cubic-ft.
Base pricing is up just a tad over last year, at $26,595 for LE grade; top trim Limited stickers for $34,595. A reshuffling of trims will also see a sporty XSE HV Hybrid added into the mix as well.
Making a compact crossover choice is about the hardest of any segment, with literally dozens of great options. But, for over 20-years, the Toyota RAV4 has remained a leader of the pack; with this 2019 version, which includes not only a more rugged design, but more capability than ever, it’s a safe bet that won’t change any time soon.
