Heute…

story time! idk if I mentioned it but I had minor brain surgery in April 2023 to remove what turned out to be a rathke's cyst that was pressing on my optic nerve that was found a year before by ct/mri scans that I got because I managed to give myself a minor concussion while skating. I say minor brain surgery because my head was not cut open, the surgeons stuck things up my nose to get it out. stayed several days in the hospital and went home either the second to last or the last day that Phantom of the Opera played on Broadway. my friend @from-aldebaran sent me flowers with my favourite Phantom (Sir Franc D'Ambrosio) on the vase <3

Is this a bed buge? Just kidding. Pretty sure it’s a Rathke’s woodlouse.
Playing with a handheld microscope. She’s not hurt she just wouldn’t stop moving so I held her in place with some thread

Today in Christian History
Today is Friday, November 25th, the 329th day of 2022. There are 36 days left in the year.
Today’s Highlight in History:
1639: Death of John Spottiswoode, who had sought to assimilate the Presbyterian church of Scotland into the Church of England, and served as Archbishop of St. Andrews, Primate of All Scotland. He had also written The History of the Church and State of Scotland.
1731: Birth in Hertfordshire, England, of William Cowper, who becomes a notable pre-Romantic poet, known in Christian circles for the hymns “God Moves in Mysterious Ways,” and “There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood,” and a collection titled Olney Hymns ( with John Newton) .
1792: Birth of Sarah Grimké in Charleston, South Carolina. She becomes a notable abolitionist and advocate of women’s rights, writing An Epistle to the Clergy of the Southern States Against Slavery and Letters on Women’s Suffrage with the Equality of the Sexes and the Condition of Woman.
1883: Death in Battle Creek, Michigan, of evangelist and abolitionist Sojourner Truth (Isabella Van Wagener). Born a slave, she had experienced visions and voices, which she attributed to God. However, she attached herself early to a cultish Methodist group whose leader beat her.
1899: Individuals with Church of Christ leanings open a little stone chapel at Wampoony, South Australia.
1901: Death of American scholar Joseph Henry Thayer, who produced a famous Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, for many years the standard in its field.
1926: Louise Rathke, RN, first Missouri Synod deaconess, sails for India as a missionary.
1958: In a rejoinder to critic W.N. Pittenger, published in The Christian Century, C.S. Lewis acknowledges that most of what he writes is evangelistic.
2001: Islamic authorities in Turkey order pastor Ahmet Guvener to halt construction on a church that is almost complete, alleging he has illegally changed the architectural plans. He will soon be placed on trial.

72 hours until my in-person callback
...with the neuroendocrine surgeon! 😜
Confirmed: there is a lesion on my pituitary gland which may be either a pituitary adenoma, a Rathke's cleft cyst that's behaving like a pituitary adenoma, or both. Whatever you wanna call it, it seems to be the source of all this crap, and surgery will be the next step.
I am SO grateful to the scheduling team for following through on their promise to call me the second a cancellation came up so I wouldn't have to wait until mid-September. I can't wait to SKIP off the subway into the UES on Tuesday morning (if not physically, then spiritually). I can't wait to MAYBE HOPEFULLY have surgery scheduled by this time next week, to get this stupid tumor thing off my pituitary gland for good.
I'm starting to feel some sadness about the prospect of leaving this apartment. This second-story walkup studio, the first lease I ever signed. This apartment was my dream for so long. For a whole year, I got to live that dream--and for half of that year, I even got to pay for it myself.
It's weird, as a person who believes in disability pride and abhors capitalism, that my two primary goals right now are (1) obtain this surgery so that I can become healthier, (e.g., less disabled), and (2) in doing so, obtain the ability to work as hard as I can, so I will have a shot at attaining financial independence again, and maybe even retaining it this time.
But no. That's not it. What I want is to feel better, so I can do more things that I love, and earn enough of my keep to have my needs met and be able to give back to the world in a meaningful way.
I want to work because there are so many things I enjoy working at. I want to make money because participating in capitalism is the only way to ultimately free yourself from its trappings and help others do the same.
And also, I want to sing and dance and roller skate and walk in the woods and read all the books and pet all the cats and bake cookies from scratch and engage in all the niche fandom content and visit my family and friends whenever I want and host them for holidays without worrying about whether or not I'll have the energy.
Tuesday will bring me one step closer to all of that. Thank God. God is still good.
Just over 71 hours.
