what are your biggest asoiaf fancasting pet peeves, especially in regards to more popular fancasts in the fandom?

a lot of people will just throw any old blond in there and call it a targaryen without thinking about the vibes. like charlize theron for rhaella gets used a lot and it's like bro.....that is NAWT charlize lmao have you SEEN the sort of roles she plays even when she's more "damsel"-y she's got a grit and a fire to her that you simply can't hide and that is not even CLOSE to the way rhaella is described. or - and like, no shade, i get it, it's hard to find fancasts -but i'll see a veritable twink used as maegor and it's like hmmmmmmmmm.

then there's "casting" people who just can't act. again, i totally get it, who doesn't like to use henry cavill in their graphics he's just easy and it's not like the show didn't cast some pretty spectacularly bad actors (hello emilia kit and aiden) but um. he may be a nerd but he is NOT up to asoiaf snuff! people do that in particular for rhaenys, lyanna, and ashara, just casting some cw girlie who doesn't emote bc she's pretty. boring. next!!

and of course the age thing. i get its hard to match ages (god knows i struggle with sansa, and i'm AWARE asivak is way too old for jon snow) but people are out here casting like 30+ year olds for arya, lyanna, asha, arianne, and it's like guys. arya is barely starting puberty lmao i like millie brady too but she is twice lyanna's age. at least do the teen show thing where you cast young looking 20 year olds as teens!

also i do in general kinda shy away from big name bollywood actors as dornish characters, although that's not a hard and fast rule. i know it's a Whole Thing that like, oftentimes west asians and maghrebi people will get erased for south asian and usually specifically indian actors, and while i don't think it's like a Huge deal when we're talking about a fictional ethnicity, i DO think the overabundance of indian faceclaims when there are quite a few west asian and north african actors that work for the characters is a very weird and annoying trend.

I finally understood why ranveer singh was chosen to play rocky in rocky aur rani ki prem kahani. It's because nobody could have played a west delhi boy who is hot,funny, irritating, cute and cringe at the same time. Ranveer singh has slayed his individual role. Full marks to being rocky randhawa but negative marks for his chemistry with alia. Their chemistry was better off playing safeena and murad in gully boy. Alia bhatt also has played the role of rani very well. Kudos to her bengali accent. But again there's absolutely no chemistry. RRPK is a must watch. Its 3 hours of proper bollywood kjo style entertainment. Don't know about the actors making a come back but karan johar has definitely made a come back. If you have grown up loving DDLJ, K3G, KKHH, then the karan johar fan in you will be mighty pleased.

I would have preferred

Ranveer-Anushka, Alia-Varun, Ranveer-deepika, Alia-Sid to make this movie a 10/10.

Hi again Sarah! My Indian films rec list just got super long cos of all the tropes and summaries so I'm making it into a proper post I can tag you in!

While I do that, here are my top five faves from both Bollywood and Kollywood (Tamil films) respectively:

Bollywood:

- Dhoom 2 (2006); I'm actually rewatching this right now and it's a SUPER fun, campy heist movie with a great soundtrack! The whole trilogy of movies are great but this one is my fave and they can all be watched as standalones

- 3 Idiots (2009); a modern classic that most people have heard of if they are casual fans of Bollywood. It takes place in an engineering college and has a super compelling plot I can't give away too much of

- Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008); It's a love story of an arranged marriage between a shy guy and this outgoing girl who kind of hates how quiet and introverted he is. And she thinks he expects her to be a traditional Indian wife so she kind of is sad abt being married. Then she goes to take dance lessons and in an attempt to connect with his wife, he goes to the lessons in disguise as a confident guy and they fall in love!

- A Bonus Rec: If you liked Aamir Khan (the lead actor in 3 Idiots) and Anushka Sharma (the lead actress of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi), they did a really adorable sci-fi movie called PK (2014) about an alien called PK who crashes into India and befriends a human lady. It's just such love letter to humanity and I LOVED Anushka's character back storyline in that movie, it changed my life ahahha

- Teri Meri Kahaani (2012); Heads up this does star Priyanka Chopra but before she became a Hollywood weirdo 😭 and back when she was super talented!! It also stars this really cute actor called Shahid Kapoor. These two play different characters in three different timelines and it explores the concept of soulmates and Hindu reincarnation!! Again CHANGED MY LIFE!

- Ram Leela (2013) or the longer title is Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. It's basically a hotter and older M18 version of Romeo and Juliet with a happy ending if I remember correctly! It starts Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh who fell in love on set (they were friends before that) and started dating just before the movie came out! They are now happily married 🥰

This got so long already hahaha I'll send you another ask with Tamil titles once you're ready for it! But these are all the fun titles I have loved, if you want more tragic ones (I love a good tragedy and having a good cry over movies), do let me know and I'll give you that list!
