As already mentioned in this year's Honorable Mention post, the selections for Ramonesmas 2020 have been somewhat complicated by this year being the way it was.

Well, this year's Winner really mixes things up--by not being a cover of "Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight)" at all! Instead, I have chosen one other suitably Plague Timey collaboration.

(Thus the event suddenly turning into Ramonesmas 2020, too. 😊)

This might not be the most famous song by the Ramones, but it's certainly my favourite! It's a masterpiece, from start to finish. The melody, the lyrics, the key change, and of course those epic sing along choruses. Was an honour to cover this one with some new, and old friends. - Mikey

the first recording, and original demo of the song, made as Joey was just writing it. *recorded in Joey's apartment, in 1985, on a Fostex 4 track cassette recorder. Joey Ramone - vocals. Mickey Leigh - guitar.

And, the Ramonesmas 2020 Runner Up!

Which, again, misses the winner position because I'm not sure it really qualifies as a cover, per se. Even more so than the previous. This was also uploaded last year, apparently after I had already made those selections. (By his little brother, also featured here on guitar. Christmas music, as composed/performed by all Jewish artists!)

This demo version definitely has that distinctive Joey Ramone style, however--which I personally far prefer to this year's Honorable Mention. 😁

To (finally) kick off Ramonesmas 2020 while it's still technically Christmas in this timezone: An honorable mention!

This year's selections were somewhat complicated by, well, the state of 2020 in general.

But, while this is technically a cover of "Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight)" actually uploaded this year? It (a) follows the original pretty closely, and (b) involves an actual fill-in Ramone. So, it only rates an honorable mention, by my own idiosyncratic standards.

This candidate won out over our Ramonesmas 2021 Runner-Up partly because it is so much less conventional.

Though, it could also do with a remake on his recent project, THE SANTASIZER! 😁

Our runner-up for Ramonesmas 2021! Which I am getting posted after midnight here--so technically on the 26th--oops.

Besides being a not bad at all fairly straightforward cover version, this selection carries the added benefit of actually having been uploaded 5 days ago. There don't seem to be many new contenders this year; I'm blaming basically the whole last couple of years.
