Who should pay zakat al-fitr? Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory on Muslims. Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made Zakat al-Fitr, one saa’ of dates or one saa’ of barley, obligatory on the Muslims, slave and free, male and female, young and old.” (Al-Bukhaari)

Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr): The one who did not give zakat al-fitr must repent to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, and ask Him for forgiveness, because he has sinned by withholding it. He must also give it to those who are entitled to it, although after the Eid prayer it is regarded as ordinary charity.
