It's wild to me how much more meaning Stranger In Paradise (which is the FitMC lore song, has been since his first ever lore drop) has accumulated over time and how it honestly fits the character and plot even better than it did at first.

Cause like, the first verse is extremely self explanatory. Quesadilla Island has been described as this perfect paradise, and would absolutely seem like some kind of wonderland to a man who has lived the life that Fit has. And of course he's a stranger there, because a person like him would be extremely out of place on such an island. Not to mention that he's very much an odd one out, being far more in the know than a lot of other islanders, and on account of the whole. Being a spy thing.

But this verse. This feels like a perfect reference to Madagio and his threats of punishment. We've already seen Madagio act like an angel or god figure, and he's definitely not a "mortal," so that last line feels incredibly apt for him.
But also. If I stand starryeyed, that's a danger in paradise; "do not form attachments". If Fit enjoys the island too much, gets wrapped up in it and therefore gets distracted from the mission (if he stands starryeyed), then he risks Madagio's punishments, which are to harm him and his loved ones. (It's a danger, for mortals who stand beside).

I saw your face and I ascended out of the commonplace; into the rare. This is Ramón. This line was always about Ramón. How he turned Fit from some common thug/mercenary/spy into a literal father; something far more special.
But the second half of this verse makes far more sense in the context of Fit's relationship with Pac. Until I know there's a chance that you care? Have they not been tiptoing around this for months? The question of whether or not they actually care for each other in a more-than-friends kind of way?

I love this verse in the context of Fit's story. A fervent prayer? Fit's attempts to communicate with Madagio, surely. Won't you answer? He never did get those messages through. Also continuing the religious symbolism of Madagio being some kind of god, saint or angel that one would pray to.
And don't send me in dark despair from all that I hunger for. Fit wants a happy life. He wants to be happy with his son, his Pac, his morning crew. All of his friends. He wants to continue being a part of a welcoming community, creating instead of destroying, loving instead of hating. He just wants to be happy. But if he betrays Madagio (or even simply does something that Madagio interprets as abandoning the mission), he'll be sent back to the wasteland. In dark despair, from all that he hungers for. He'll lose everything he's gained.

The last verse is super self explanatory again. He doesn't have to be a stranger on Quesadilla Island. He doesn't have to be an outsider. He deserves to be one of them, the islanders, the family that has been formed.
I don't know I just find it so neat that this song has developed even more meaning and relevance in Fit's story. Fit and his fucking music choices, man

💘Is there any posted fic you want to rework/re-edit/re-write?
Short answer, yes.
Long answer, under the cut.
I would rewrite some of the ending of Heart of Flowers/Heart of Gold. I made some deliberate choices that fit with canon that had happened thus far (post season 4) and I wanted Eddie to argue that he should have the love he wants. The most obvious target to have him argue this with was his parents because they were going to be the ones to have the loudest opinions on who he should or shouldn't love? Is I guess how I would describe it?
But I also don't like leaving Eddie's relationship with his parents that way. Especially after s5 and Hero Complex and etc. I love that Eddie and his dad started working to mend their relationship and be better for themselves and each other. And that was always what I wanted for my Heart series, too. I just never made it that far because the fic is already SO LONG.
And I will say, I've written Eddie in several fics having a contentious relationship with his parents. But it is 100% me projecting and filtering it through my relationship with my own parents? It was always the idea that "Eddie loves his parents, but they frustrate him and he can only be around them for so long before going crazy." I never once thought it's because the Diaz parents deserved hate or that they were irredeemable bigots. That's a big no from me, dawg, any time that happens. But relationships with parents of boomer age are v hard and they are not always full of immediate understanding and supportive-ness. 🙃 (I am in my mid-thirties like Eddie and my parents are in their early 60s like the Diaz parents would likely be if Ramón just retired and etc.) So. Take that as you will?
Either way. That is what I would rewrite. We stan the Diaz Family in this house. Yes, all of them. And how I wrote Eddie and Ramón's relationship in Eddie vs Feelings is much more how I prefer them to be portrayed. But you know. I am gay, ace, and disabled, and I was having an angry angry frustrated day when I wrote the end of my Heart series. But I still want to edit or add more so that it's more reflective of a mending relationship and parents who love and support no matter what even when they don't understand. Not that I feel like what I wrote goes against this? It's just incomplete to me because it ended with the argument and not the reconciliation and apologies.

᪥ Though he was overall fun loving and youthful, it was still hard to know for sure what you’d get with Ramon. It made the fact that he could kill ruthlessly even scarier.
I am cracking up so hard rn bc my mind went straight to current blorbo of the month, Barrón, who’s a contract killer, right. Much like Moncito, that’s whyyyyy he’s there. But the truth of Mon being such an It’s Always Sunny wildcard! Like, inexplicably had me playing out this entire Laguna Beach/Kardashians-style reality TV scene in my head. Where you’re talking to a friend, weighing both blorbs, and you’re like, “Yeah, Mon’s hot asf and has such a zest for life, makes me laugh, super fun to hang with but like he’s kind of unpredictable. And he *whispers* kills people.” And the friend’s like “okay gorl, but Barron *whispers* is also hot asf also kills ppl,” and you’re like, “yeah, but like at this point in my life, I think what i really need in a relationship is stability and consistency. Like someone who’s gonna challenge me but like not in a hostage-negotiation way, yknow.”
᪥ To your surprise, it ends up being one of the most beautiful days you’ve had in a long time and through it all, Ramon remains chill.

Who in the Narcos cast do you think likes to be called "sir"/"boss"/"agent", etc in bed and who doesn't? I personally lean to Amado- Yes and Miguel Felix- No. It's a bit of an interesting juxtaposition between the two of them. Amado, despite you kind of needing to lead him by the dick to get anything done in bed wants to be called boss (tricky balance to strike but worth it if you can. he tries really hard for you and to rail you if you do) (1/2)
(2/2) while being called that in bed is almost a turn off for Miguel I think. He comes to bed to get away from the pressure & stress & So Many People To Deal With and now you remind him of it??? No thank you ma'am.

I completely agree with this. The idea of calling Félix sir or boss sounds hot and all, but I also feel like he’d be more desensitized to it. It just wouldn’t have the same effect on him. Lol I love how you and I are on the same page about Amado. The man definitely gives me vibes like he’s cockier than he should be in bed but you have to really teach him in the beginning, otherwise he’s a little more on the average side. Once he’s got a better understanding of what you like, you feel like he’s more deserving of the boss status and you know exactly how to turn him on with the title.
And here are my thoughts on the other lovely men of Narcos (below the cut!):
Steve:
Normally I’d say he doesn’t necessarily like being called anything like that in bed but... that whole “yo soy tu patron” line really gives me some thots. In my little fantasy world, there are occasions when Steve loves being called ‘boss’ in bed, but it’s not a very frequent thing for sweet ol’ Southern gentleman Steve.
Javi:
He’s similar to Steve in the sense that he probably doesn’t think much of it at first. But with a sassy/bratty S/O, I can totally see ‘agent’ being thrown in there as a joke or as a way to poke fun at him. And when you really get him riled up, he might suggest that you call him sir or agent while he’s fucking you so that he can put you back in your place (definitely his words when you get him angry like that). Bottom line: it’s less serious with him until something pushes him over the edge, and then it gets steamy real quick.
Carrillo:
Okay hear me out... accidentally moaning ‘colonel’ when you get a little carried away by his touches.... That shit would be hot af. I think Carrillo would be pleasantly surprised by that, and he might even whisper for you to say it again, just to test out how it makes him feel. And to your delightful surprise, it turns him on so much.
Martínez:
He likes it, but he’s a little more shy about expressing that to you. He realized it by complete accident; he had said something to you and you jokingly responded with “yes, sir” and a playful salute, but you didn’t miss the way his eyes widened. He tried to keep it to himself, still unsure why he reacted in such a strange way to you calling him ‘sir’, but you’re smart and caught on quickly. So it was only a matter of time before you repeated the title in bed and it turned him into a puddle.
Pacho:
It’s not that hearing you call him ‘sir’ or ‘boss’ is necessarily a turn-off for him; it’s just that Pacho is a very confident man, so he doesn’t need you to call him those names to feel dominant or powerful in bed. He won’t stop you if you really want to call him sir or boss, but it’s not something he needs to hear to boost his ego. Your moans and whimpers are more than enough to make him feel an equivalent rush of power. (Pacho has a praise kink, don’t @ me).
Rafa:
He prefers ‘sir’ rather than ‘boss’, but he doesn’t want you to go overboard with it; sometimes it hits a little too close to home and reminds him of how he feels undermined by Félix at times. It’s not a turn-off for him if you call him that, but you have to be wary of what kind of mood he’s in.
Benjamín:
Sweet Min is a little more submissive than the rest, and it doesn’t really do much for him if you call him sir or boss. If you were really adamant on calling him those titles, then he wouldn’t refuse, but it’s not something he would specifically ask you to do. When he’s with you, he likes putting work aside and just relaxing in your arms. His softer side comes out when he's with you, and he likes when you call him cute nicknames instead.
Ramón:
Since he often feels like he gets bossed around by his family, he loves when you make him feel like he’s the boss in bed. Out of all the men, Mon prefers being called sir or boss the most and more often than not, he’ll get really into it and tell you to only address him as such when he’s fucking you. In that moment, he would definitely punish you if you forget to call him sir and accidentally let his name slip instead.

Hello hope you’re doing well!! I was just thinking how fucked up it was to not have an eid clip during Amira N’s season and I may be wrong but I really don’t think it has something to do with covid. I genuinely think they didn’t care enough and I get so mad and sad thinking about it (and the season in general) do you have an idea why they wouldn’t want to do an eid clip? (I also feel so bad for hajar because she’s such a good actress and deserved so much better. At least I hope SHE is satisfied)

I mean they were able to shoot a party with a ton of people (the Jared Leto cult party), at least one of whom (Ramón) isn’t even an actor lmao. So no, I don’t see any covid-related reason they couldn’t have done an Eid clip tbh! And also, they clearly planned to do a hiatus starting with the last clip of episode 7, until the first clips of episode 8, which dealt with the uni aptitude exams (PAU). Eid happened the Sunday after the last clip of episode 7, so tbh, the most likely explanation is that there never was an Eid clip. And they ain’t shit for that.

He blinked confused, looking around in his room. Next to him on the bed, a woman was sitting on the blanket and grinned at him. “Finally, you woke up Amore! Come on! We have things to do. You told me, you will come with me visiting the Orphans!”, she got up and took her hairbrush. She brushes her hair, while wearing a dark green dress. He smiled at the sight of his beautiful wife. He got up, walked to her and hugged her from behind. “Caterina. Why are you so full of energy in the morning? You should stay in bed with me.”, Salamander said sleepy and kissed her neck softly. “Caterina Bianco doesn’t stay in bed for too long. We have plans Amore! Get your ass under the shower!” “How rude. And you are Caterina Salamander now, Mi amor.”, he laughed and cuddled her. She laughed too, holding his arms close to her body. They shared a kiss, before Salamander made himself ready. Caterina already left the room, he wanting to follow her, as he saw something on his drawer. A ring with an emerald on it. The green stone split the light, what was falling on it and throw beautiful shadows on the wall. He stared at the ring as he shook his head. Naturally, what was wrong with him? He smiled, as he picked up his wedding ring and put it on. “Are you coming?”, Caterina head popped out of the door. “Coming, Coming Mi Amor.”, he laughed again, before leaving the room with his loved one, to do something good for the world. “So, you gave him a Happy end? You are such a softy.”, the blond woman said, while looking at the dying Timelady. Both flowing through the Time Vortex, but stopped for a moment to watch over Ramón Salamander. “He changed. He deserves a second chance, like everyone does.” “How can she exist?” The dying Timelady looked to her companion. “She was a part of me. My soul split, as I regenerate after being shot. She was born out of a fragment of my soul, while I was trying to do everything for the plan, when we tried to stop him. I… or better she really loved him. I told him the truth. So, I gave him the love the needed. I gave him her.” “Does she has your power?”, the companion asked. “No. She is a normal human being. She doesn’t have any memories of everything happened, neither has he. I changed the memories a bit, after I put his mind back in the one year, before he started this massive catastrophe. They will be happy, having a family and live their life in the fullest.”   “How grateful of you.”, the woman smiled, while flowing through the lighting of the Time Vortex. The dying Timelady followed her companion. She smiles at her. “You are happy, having another bond with one of the incarnations of your beloved husband, hm?” “Of course I am. Now its time for me, to go to the next one.” “I wish you a great time, really.” The dying Timelady laid on her back for a moment, before she looked back to her companion. “What is with you? Are you going back to him?” The young woman thought for a moment, her expression almost looking sad and lost. But then she sights and nodded. “I have to, it’s a part of my journey, before everything ends. And to be honest; I shouldn’t travel around in parallels universes too much, if you know what I mean.” The dying Timelady laughed and grinned at her companion. “You are right. It was nice to see you again, Bad Wolf.” “Until we meet again, dying Timelady” Both disappeared from the Time Vortex, going where they are needed at most. In their own Time and own Universe.

A new addition to the pool is Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, which mixes animation with original footage to explore the making of Surrealist-cinema godfather Luis Buñuel’s hard-hitting documentary short, Las Hurdes (Land Without Bread).
Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Fermin Solís, this true-story animation is directed by Spanish animator Salvador Simó, who is known for directing kids’ show Paddle Pop, and worked on the visual effects for Passengers and The Jungle Book.
Simó’s film begins just as Buñuel’s L’Age d’Or premieres to controversy. The filmmaker has had a falling out with artist Salvador Dali despite their success with Un Chien Andalou. He’s looking for his next project, when his friend Ramón Acín promises to produce Buñuel’s next film if Acín wins the lottery. Acín does win, and Buñuel travels to Las Hurdes, a poverty-stricken town in a remote region of Spain.
Las Hurdes was banned by the government of the time for its treatment of its subjects, both human and animal (Buñuel had recreated some animal abuse scenes he had read about). Writing about the film on Letterboxd, Edgar observes that Buñuel “literally becomes exactly what he condemns… Nevertheless, like a predecessor of Resnais, the auteur finds a gorgeous balance between natural beauty and the ugliness of social injustice”. Mike writes: “I see why this film was included in the 1001 Movies You Need to See Before You Die. It’s a brilliant mockumentary that cynically defies every moral expectation in order to make its point.”
We spoke to Salvador Simó on the eve of the release of Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles in US cinemas.

Why did you decide to explore the production of Las Hurdes as a film? Salvador Simó: I discovered Luis Buñuel a long time ago when I was a child. I remember my father has always been a big fan. When I was about nine, he arrived home very excited because he just saw a movie where there were people in a room but they couldn’t get out of the room [1962’s The Exterminating Angel] and I was really fascinated while he was explaining it to me, I was like “wow!”.
When I grew up a little bit more I discovered films from Buñuel, I think he was always somehow in my family in this way. But the fact of doing this film, it was actually because [producer] Manuel Cristóbal called me and showed me the comic by Fermin Solís and he was asking me “do we think we can make a movie of that?” I started reading it and while I thought ‘I do not agree with some things…’ I did think ‘we can make a movie about that’.
What would you say was the documentary’s importance in how it changed Buñuel’s career as a filmmaker from that point forward? I think it was a turning point for him. Before Las Hurdes, the surrealism that Buñuel was working on took a big influence from [painter Salvador] Dalí. It was totally based on images and things that had not really an explanation. That’s the way they were working. The town of Las Hurdes changed his way of proceeding the making of a film and of telling a story. He became more human.
You see what happened with all his films after Las Hurdes, his surrealism is more based on the human soul. The first film that he did afterwards as an author was Los Olvidados, seventeen years later, and during all that time he learned a lot. After that, all his films that made him really famous was his way to see surrealism in the way we dictate day-by-day.
What was your creative process for the surrealistic scenes? I did sketch the whole film from the beginning to the end. What we’re calling the surrealism scenes in the film [were] also a way to see into his mind, to tell part of his behavior, his feelings, and even his past. It was in this global way to tell the story of Buñuel to people that is a little bit surrealist.
We never had the intention to copy anything of his way of making film, but we had great influence from him because we’d been working on him for all these years. For this movie I felt like Buñuel and I were walking the same paths. In Las Hurdes he was trying to find his own voice and in this film it was a little bit the same for me, so it has been doubly [influenced] by him and his way to be an artist.

What led to the decision to include footage from Buñuel’s actual films rather than recreating them in animation? Because they were there. We wanted to show that what happened was real and it was really tough. If we drew that, people would believe it was part of the animation and that we made it up. The best way to see what they were seeing at the time was from the actual footage they shot in 1932.
In Spain, for many years it has been a great controversy about what Buñuel did with his documentary—whether it was real or if he made it up—but what people don’t know is that Buñuel based [it] on an existing book he read by French-Hispanic Maurice Legendre [entitled Las Jurdes: étude de géographie humaine, English translation: Las Hurdes: Study of Human Geography, published in 1927]. He was there about ten years before and he wrote 300 to 400 pages describing what was the situation in Las Hurdes.
In that book, what Legendre was writing about is worse than what Buñuel did. What Buñuel was trying to show [was] what was happening in that place, to try to change the world. You have to think that in that time, many of the surrealists, they were trying to change the world and make it better. This was Buñuel’s way to do it. He was denouncing what was happening.
Of course the government at the time covered up all of that because they didn’t want to accept that was real, but people were actually dying and starving and they were [contracting] diseases. It was terrible. Buñuel put it on the screen when cinema was starting. People who were going to the cinema were the bourgeoisie and they were not used to seeing these things. They were used to seeing stories of high society and not used to seeing what Buñuel had to show them. It was a big scandal and they forbid this film for many years.

This film acts more as a tribute to [Buñuel’s producer and friend] Ramón Acín than to the filmmaker himself, and delivers Acín the credit he deserves. At what point in your research did you decide to switch the focus to him? When we were working on the movie I remember at the beginning thinking I need to make the end of the movie more inspiring. Then we talked with Ian Gibson, the biographer of Luis Buñuel, and he told us the story of Ramón Acín. At the beginning he just was kind of a character we were using in a way to show some part of the characteristics of Buñuel at the time.
When he told us the story we thought ‘maybe it’s a story of friendship’. He actually win the lottery after he told him “no worries, if I win the lottery I will pay for the film” and four weeks later he wins the lottery and keeps his word. I thought ‘wow, that’s amazing. He keeps his word!’. I would be surprised if anyone would nowadays.
At the end, it’s not only a tribute to Ramón Acín and Buñuel, it’s also a tribute to the good people that [are] all around the world. We’re too used to hearing about the bad people on the news, but actually we’re surrounded by very amazing people and I think the film is also a tribute to them. Somehow with Ramon, it was the good man who represented that in the film.
Acín acted as the voice of morality regarding the treatment of animals, which is what made the film controversial at the time. Did you use him in that sense to comment on Buñuel’s actions? Not exactly, to be honest, no. I know the treatment of animals is tough, and I don’t agree with it at all, but I think we need to see this. That was what was happening in 1932. We cannot be blind to that. If we just censor that, we will not be honest about what was happening in that time. Society had different rules and a totally different mentality.
At that time talking about animal rights is like talking science fiction. Why should we have to hide that, because we don’t like it now? I think we have to show it because that’s what happened, whether we like it or not. You’d be surprised at how many countries in the world keep doing these things to animals. Even in Spain, the bullfighting still happens.
Buñuel was always pushing the lines for the people and making them actually jump off their chair. That’s a little bit of what we wanted to do with this film, to make people jump off their chairs too.
We like to ask filmmakers about the film made them want to get into making movies. Which film was it for you? Actually for me, it was not a film, it was my daughter. I’ve been working 30 years in animation as an animator. Then when my daughter was born I wanted to make more short films about the things that she was interested in. I wanted to tell the stories to her.
Which is your favorite Buñuel film? A lot of them are great, but Los Olvidados is an explosion of Buñuel for me.

LGBT Horror Films
I’ve been wanting to compile a list like this for a while now, and what better time to finally do it than Pride Month!
I have sifted throughmany films in compiling this list, including reading through many synopses, and watching many trailers.  I have made a strong effort to avoid films with unforgivably ignorant or maliciously negative portrayals of LGBT people (there are films here with LGBT villains/killers, but real life has shown us that we, too, can become corrupted by trauma and suffering).  Of the films portraying LGBT characters as victims, they either triumph in the end, or are otherwise portrayed with proper humanity (i.e., their sexuality or identity is not blamed by the filmmaker as the cause for any problems they may have, except when facing villains motivated by bigotry).  I felt it equally important that these films are listed based on canon, and not speculation or memery (sorry, Babadook!).  Films with undertones have their own sub-lists. 
Many more films came up while compiling this list that I felt didn’t quite meet the standards to be included, such as those whose LGBT content were relegated to minor background characters.  If you’re still interested in finding these other films, you might want to check here, here, and here.  If you’re interested in finding more LGBT directors, check here.

Eurovision 2004 my top 36 (WOW)

Hello, and welcome to another episode of this ESC top series, and for the first time ever I go to two different dates: May 12 and May 15, 2004, when the 49th edition took place in Istanbul, Turkey, after Sertab Erener’s victory in Riga last year. This year was the first one to have a semifinal round to accommodate the growing number of participating countries, which was of 36 this year. While Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, FYR Macedonia, Switzerland and Monaco returned to the competition, we said hello to Belarus, Albania, Andorra and Serbia & Montenegro. From the semifinal qualified 10 countries added to the 14 automatically qualified countries from 2003. The contest was won by Ukraine and Ruslana with the song Wild Dances, making this their 1st win and they won the year after they debuted. And now, let’s start this kinda long list. Also, this year is the worst one in terms of sound quality, most of the songs sound cheap and there are a lot of mic fails.

At first I was bored of this song, but then I listened to it and I was amazed by how beautiful is this song. His voice is stunning, the music is mesmerizing and wow... I don’t know what else to say, this takes my breath away and my senses fly to another place.  
2nd Place: UKRAINE/Ruslana-Wild dances (Real Placing: 1st-280 points)
HELL YEAH THIS SONG!!!! I was, and still I’m obsessed with this song, it’s so energizing, powerful, epic, and makes me feel good, Ruslana is such a perfect singer and what a voice does she has. Of course this is a worthy winner and what a winner! Also when I was playing GTA 4 this song appeared and I was like ASKJFKLDLK and Ruslana was the DJ, and it was one of the best moments of my life. 
3rd Place: CYPRUS/Lisa Andreas-Stronger every minute (Real Placing: =5th-170 points)
Again a cute ballad with a very young singer, and I found it very lovely, the lyrics are cute and the music is so wonderful. I’m so moved by this song every time I listen to this. Surely this song deserved so much more than it got. 
4th Place: SPAIN/Ramón-Para llenarme de ti (Real Placing: 10th-87 points)
Oh a song with a very salsa touch to it, Ramón’s voice is very good and suits this song perfectly, the music is so catchy and the lyrics are good. AY QUE CANCIÓN TAN BUENA. I love it. 
5th Place: SWEDEN/Lena Philipsson-It hurts (Real Placing: =5th-170 points) 
LENA <3 I LOVE YOU, the song is so good, her voice is stunning, as always, and she has such a stage presence with this song, and the microphone stand is a nice touch to this one, I like more the Swedish version but this is very good as well. Hurts oh it hurts really hurts in the middle on the night... 
6th Place: BELARUS/Aleksandra and Konstantin-My Galileo (Real Placing: =19th SF-10 points)
This song is very good, has a nice feeling to it, I love the music and maybe the problem here is her voice, but anyway I always enjoy this entry so much and the performance is nice for this song, a nice debut for Belarus too.  
7th Place: ALBANIA/Anjeza Shahini-The image of you (Real Placing: 7th-106 points)
Another cute song, the music is so good and her voice is stunning, also I’m in love with her and overall this entry makes me feel so happy, the performance is very effective and what a debut for Albania, well done.  
8th Place: GERMANY/Max-Can’t wait until tonight (Real Placing: 8th-93 points)
This song is brilliant, the music is so calms and the lyrics are nice, his voice is so perfect and suits this song so well, I always sing along to this one and I love the part in which he sings in Turkish, a nice detail there. Wow... no more words to describe this wonderful song. 
9th Place: GREECE/Sakis Rouvas-Shake it (Real Placing: 3rd-252 points)
If you asked me 2 years ago, I would’ve said that this was in my top 3, but later I discovered 8 songs I like more than this one, still Sakis is very hot, the performance is perfect, I enjoy the music and his voice here was a bit shaky but I like it. I’m in love with this men and with the song as well, what was Greece planning for 2005? 
10th Place: FRANCE/Jonatan Cerrada-À chaque pas (Real Placing: 15th-40 points)
What a nice song, I enjoy this ballad so much and his voice is perfect and I love the last part because it’s in Spanish. The performance was a bit too much but it captures the essence of this song. What a beautiful song! 
11th Place: ANDORRA/Marta Roure-Jugarem a estimar-nos (Real Placing: 18th SF-12 points)
Awwww a song in Catalan <3 and I love this, her voice could’ve been better but still this works, the music is so 2004 and I’m so crazy about it, this is such a wonderful debut and I enjoy this entry so much. 
12th Place: MALTA/Julie & Ludwig-On again... off again (Real Placing: =12th-50 points)
I’m crazy about this song, I love their voices and the music is very schlagery but it works for me, the chorus is so catchy and I like the whole atmosphere in this song. 
13th Place: TURKEY/Athena-For real (Real Placing: 4th-195 points)
Again this song is so epic and I love it, this has a nice chorus and the verses are very good, this is something I’ve absolutely would’ve heard in 2004, because it’s awesome. 
14th Place: BELGIUM/Xandee-1 life (Real Placing: =22nd-7 points)
Why this finished so low in the final? THIS IS WONDERFUL AND EPIC, she sings so well and the music is amazing, I’m amazed by this one and since I heard it I fell in love with this song. Certainly deserved so much more than it got. 
15th Place: ISRAEL/David D’Or-Leha’amin (Real Placing: =11th SF-57 points)
OH WHAT A VOICE, the music is very nice and the performance is perfect, I’m in love with this song and he sings like an angel. I’m so amazed by this song, and it deserved the final.  
16th Place: ESTONIA/Neiokõsõ-Tii (Real Placing: =11th SF-57 points)
I’m in love with this song because it’s very interesting, the music is hypnotic and they sing quite bad but I enjoy this entry so much, and the language is very interesting. I like their dresses though. 
17th Place: CROATIA/Ivan Mikulić-You are the only one (Real Placing: =12th-50 points)
Before Sergey Lazarev, there was Ivan Mikulić, and this song is lovely, even if it reminds me of another song from Mexico, his voice is so good and the music is pretty and enjoyable, but maybe in Croatian this would’ve been so much better.  
18th Place: ICELAND/Jónsi-Heaven (Real Placing: 19th-16 points) 
This ballad is nice, but maybe he was nervous because his voice sounds a bit bad here, the music is so brilliant and I enjoy the key change at the end of the song. Overall a nice average song. 
19th Place: LATVIA/Fomins & Kleins-Dziesma par laimi (Real Placing: 17th SF-23 points)
Oh a song that makes me feel free, and I enjoy the music so much. Also the fact that this the only song that has been in Latvian it’s nice. I enjoy their voices but here the sound ruins everything. 
20th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/James Fox-Hold on to our love (Real Placing: 16th-29 points)
This song is great as well, the music is so enjoyable and perfect, his voice is on point and overall this entry is very cute, I’m in love with this one, a nice song for me.

Oh another lovely Irish ballad, the music is so cute and his voice is very good. The chorus is so nice and here he unleashes his voice. This entry is vey nice and yeah, I like it. 
22nd Place: FYR MACEDONIA/Toše Proeski-Life (Real Placing: 14th-47 points)
I’m just in love with his voice, it’s so amazing, but this song isn’t good, sounds kinda cheap and doesn’t grace his voice. I love the performance though and his voice makes this better.  
23rd Place: NORWAY/Knut Anders Sørum-High (Real Placing: 24th-3 points/last)
Awww HOW THIS FINISHED LAST IN THE FINAL, this song is so cute, the music is so fresh and I love his voice, this song also has a very catchy chorus, this song didn’t deserve last place in the final. 
24th Place: PORTUGAL/Sofia Vitória-Foi magia (Real Placing: 15th SF-38 points)
This song is very good, the music is so catchy and I remember the chorus because it’s memorable, her dress is awful and maybe the performance was poor but I love this song. Her voice is so nice to listen.  
25th Place: MONACO/Maryon-Notre planète (Real Placing: =19th SF-10 points)
Oh this is such an adorable song, her voice is very good and I enjoy the music because it’s very good, this was very underrated and this was the comeback of Monaco, with a song that IMO deserved more. 
26th Place: DENMARK/Tomas Thordarson-Shame on you (Real Placing: 13th SF-56 points)
This song is enjoyable and nice, he has a nice voice but maybe the performance was too red and too bad, overall this song is good but I need more oomph to this one. 
27th Place: FINLAND/Jari Sillanpää-Takes 2 to tango (Real Placing: 14th SF-51 points)
I like the tango sounds on this song, his voice is good and the music is enjoyable and catchy, but I think this song needed a bit more to reach the perfection, also, Jari is such a charming singer. 
28th Place: BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA/Deen-In the disco (Real Placing: 9th-91 points)
This reminds me of Hot Stuff from Donna Summer, and it works a bit for me, I like this one but I think there are better songs this year. I always dance to this one but maybe it’s a bit crazy for me, even I usually like this kind of songs. 
29th Place: AUSTRIA/Tie Break-Du bist (Real Placing: 21st-9 points)
Another cute song, but sadly this fails to impress me and it’s kinda boring, the chorus kinda saves this one but this doesn’t go anywhere, they sing okay. Not a great effort. 
30th Place: ROMANIA/Sanda-I admit (Real Placing: 18th-18 points)
I must admit that I love the music because it has potential, but her voice was a bit bad and the performance isn’t great, the dress is horrible and they killed their own song, sadly. 
31st Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Re-Union-Without you (Real Placing: 20th-11 points)
This is lovely, but I must say that this song after it ends I don’t remember it, the atmosphere is cute but maybe this didn’t stood out in a quite strong final, also the running order killed it. 
32nd Place: POLAND/Blue Café-Love song (Real Placing: 17th-27 points)
This song isn’t so bad but I don’t like her voice, is so weird because I usually like those voices. The music is good but sadly this song passes by and doesn’t say anything to me. 
33rd Place: LITHUANIA/Linas and Simona-What’s happened to our love? (Real Placing: 16th SF-26 points)
Okay this song is also very annoying, this only repeats the chorus and it turns boring, the music is kinda nice but sadly this song doesn’t goes anywhere. 
34th Place: RUSSIA/Julia Savicheva-Believe me (Real Placing: 11th-67 points)
This song is incredibly boring for me, it’s uninteresting, the performance is horrible, what’s going on with those dances, her voice isn’t good, this song is one of the worst Russia has sent to the contest.  
35th Place: SLOVENIA/Platin-Stay forever (Real Placing: 21st SF-5 points)
Another boring and plain song, I’m not so fond of her voice and the music is very flat, not a brilliant effort.

2: Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project
so in the thing im writing now, im mainly just working up to finish out the meat of the story. what im really excited to get to is the official ending where (you guessed it) phoenix and maya have an emotional conversation to tie the themes of the story up completely. i wrote a very rough dialogue outline for it that im looking forwards to going and cleaning up properly.
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
oh man. SO MANY. i have a lot of generally contextless writing bits in my notes, both fanfic and original story. nico and annabeth having a snarky conversation about dead moms. some original fantasy stuff. haruhi and tamaki being weird with each other in me and ramóns tamaharu divorce au. but okay heres one i really like - its the end of "Rose" for half a doctor who au i wrote based on chris eccleston mentioning he wouldve loved to play a companion to billie piper as the doctor:
"You could come with me," she tells him softly, her eyes dark and hard to discern. "Travel through space with me; experience this on the norm. I could use a companion."
It's right then, right in that dirty alley with a woman-alien-girl-ancient who lives like this every day, Tyler figures out his life is only starting. He isn't just stuck in a rut, he could-- he could go back to school, find a better job, become a teacher like he planned.
She stares at him. "No," he says, "I uh-- I've got this cat. Don't want to run away just to leave him to die. He-- He doesn't deserve me leaving him." The Doctor's face remains impassive, but maybe he's imagining that subtle downturn of her lips?
"Alright." The Doctor smiles, slides a little inside. "See you around," she finishes, before slinking all the way in and closing the door. In moments, it vanishes, screeching, and Tyler watches it go, and he thinks, I will regret that for the rest of my life. But he really does have a cat he has to get home to; a real thing that needs him. He turns to walk away from the alleyway.
And the TARDIS screeches back.
He whips back around as the door pries open, and they catch each other's eyes and the Doctor says, like it's an admission of need, of vulnerability, all wrapped up in faux-casuality: "By the way, did I mention? It also travels in time. And me and the old girl don't mind pets," she adds.
Tyler stares at her. He doesn't have to use this new lease on life to become a teacher, he doesn't have to stay to inevitably fall into the same old rut, he can have his cake and eat it too. He can keep his cat.
He grins, and he runs.

Istanbul 2004 - Grand Final
Host: Istanbul, Turkey Slogan: “Under The Same Sky” Participants: 36 Voting method: 12-point system (100% televotes) Format: 1 Semi-Final / Grand Final = the top 10 of the semi + the top 10 of '03 + the Big 4 Winner: Ruslana - Wild Dances Country: Ukraine Points: 280 (66.7% of highest score possible) Language: English & Ukrainian General Overview: With the addition of a semi-final round in 2004, the EBU needed to curtail the vote reveal. All 36 participating countries voted in the Grand Final this year, which was definitely a record at the time. Consequently, the presenters only echoed the points in one language instead of both English and French, as was the tradition. Another issue was the order in which the countries were called. The previous 45+ contests simply followed the running order. However, this year the EBU switched it to alphabetical order (by ISO initials). Also of note, 2004 is the final contest in standard definition and in 4:3 aspect ratio. Eurovision definitely underwent some major changes in the mid 2000's. The staging in Istanbul incorporates LED screens on the floor and backdrop. The postcards feature the standard local scenery shots, and conclude with an array of hearts being blown across the screen. Sertab Erener opens the show with 2 songs, showing off her vocals in the second. She later gets her shoe stuck in the speaker grate while presenting the award to Ukraine. This year's presenters are Korhan Abay (who is quite annoying) and Meltem Cumbul. And, finally, the interval act encompasses a hectic selection of traditional music and dance, with various styles and costumes. The 2004 vote was an initially close race, with Serbia leading through the halfway mark, and Turkey in contention at one point as well. However, Ukraine ultimately pulled ahead and maintained a healthy lead in the second half. With 36 countries voting, the old points record was easily obliterated. And, interestingly, the top 2 countries had both debuted in the past 2 years. Stylistically, this seems to be the year of male ballads. There's about 11 of them. I won't be reviewing the semi qualifiers again, but I'll note anything significant in the Grand Final performance.
Spain: Ramón - Para llenarme de ti Spain's 2004 entry is explicitly derived from Latin American dance music. I believe salsa is the correct genre classification for this. The bouncy groove in “Para” is energetic and easily dance-able, with the punching percussion being a highlight. It's charming in a way. And the melody is catchy enough. The lyrics, meanwhile, describe how Ramón is ready to transition from his ex to a new partner. “Para” became Spain's fourth consecutive top 10 in the contest, but their last until 2012. Austria: Tie Break - Du bist YAWN. “Du bist” channels the dull boy band ballad formula that was exploited by 98 Degrees and the Backstreet Boys around the turn of the century. The pacing and the melody are sluggish. The overall arrangement is just too bland for the sentiment to resonate with me. Although the spinning camera bit at the beginning is notable.  Norway: Knut Anders Sørum - High A last place finish for Norway here, but I think it deserved better. Yes, the song is dated, and yes the chorus is a letdown (specifically the “bringing you high” part). But at least there's effort put into this. Knut thrusts the vocal melody at the audience. He endearingly encourages his significant other to open up. While the chorus attempts to be a unifying, uplifting anthem. The backing singers elevate that. But the chorus is still awkward. France: Jonatan Cerrada - À chaque pas “À chaque pas” is a predictable French ballad. But it's well-sung, the chorus leaps out in a powerful way, and Jonatan's vocal is passionate. The staging is bewildering though, between Jonatan's messy hair, the swaying woman on stilts, the toilet paper outfits on the backing vocalists, and the globe beach balls. The lyrics, meanwhile, are introspective, where the singer fights to repair a damaged relationship and to let go of the baggage.  Serbia & Montenegro: Željko Joksimović & Ad-Hoc Orchestra - Lane moje Nothing new to add. Malta: Julie and Ludwig - On Again... Off Again Nothing new to add. Netherlands: Re-Union - Without You Nothing new to add. Germany: Max - Can't Wait Until Tonight The German entry is reminiscent of James Taylor, and of those MTV Unplugged performances from the time. Max even sits on a stool. “Can't Wait Until Tonight” is minimalist, acoustic, coffeehouse music. It's a soft, seductive embrace that's mostly downbeat until the energy shifts in the bridge. Max then projects his scratchy vocal as a lead into the final chorus. There's also a brief section of Turkish lyrics. Overall, the instrumental and the performance are both tasteful, and the bridge transition is the highlight of the song. But this genre doesn't appeal to me much, and I don't like the voice crack. “Can't Wait” ultimately finished in 8th place and topped the official German singles chart. Albania: Anjeza Shahini - The Image of You She changed her hair and outfit for the Grand Final. Ukraine: Ruslana - Wild Dances (winner review below) Croatia: Ivan Mikulić - You Are the Only One Nothing new to add. Bosnia & Herzegovina: Deen - In the Disco He doesn’t expose his chest in the Final. :( Belgium: Xandee - 1 Life “1 Life” is the fan-favourite under-performance of 2004. The Belgian entry is a thumping, high-energy club banger with tribal drums. In other words, it's right up my alley. The backing track is euphoric, intense and busy. And the dancing is lively. The chorus, however, would work better with a more dynamic vocalist. Xandee is a little submerged.  Russia: Julia Savicheva - Believe Me Not to be confused with Julia Samoylova. So Russia selects an Avril Lavigne lookalike and a song that sounds like a European chart hit from the mid 2000's. The dance/club production is the best aspect of this entry. It's gentle, bittersweet and melancholic, and a genre that's right up my alley. But Julia drowns in the performance due to the vocals, and the arrangement is too bland. The chorus doesn't go anywhere. There's a decent song lurking beneath but it doesn’t quite surface. Lyrically, Julia is putting on the image that she doesn't care. She's either fooling her ex or herself. While the staging includes colourful body paint on the backing dancers. F.Y.R. Macedonia: Toše Proeski - Life Nothing new to add. Greece: Sakis Rouvas - Shake It The vocal is more bearable this time. Iceland: Jónsi - Heaven This is one intense, dramatic, power ballad. Jónsi sure sings the hell out of it. He performs alone on stage, so all focus is on his emotive bellowing. While the bombastic orchestral instrumentation amplifies this intense mood. It builds to a huge climax. It's not the catchiest ballad - Croatia's entry does a better job in that department - but the dramatics are more compelling. Ireland: Chris Doran - If My World Stopped Turning The Irish entry is written by Westlife member Bryan McFadden. So unsurprisingly, the song sounds just like a Westlife ballad. Which is one of the worst things to exist in popular music. Ireland were so stale around this point. The chorus melody attempts to leap out (“then I would still stand tall”) and there's a message about not taking things for granted. But, the arrangement is such tedious nothingness. It received 7 whole points... all from the UK. Poland: Blue Café - Love Song This is such a wonky song. The beginning reminds me of the Lion King. Following this, “Love Song” becomes brassy and breezy. The main portion employs a light, hypnotic rhythm that moves in a swaying motion. The pace is later disrupted by a lively Latin-y breakdown that doesn't quite fit. There's also quirky vocals from Tatiana. It’s a curious entry, and I do like the chill vibe in the verses. But the “SWEET SONG, LOVE SONG” hook is annoying and repetitive.  United Kingdom: James Fox - Hold On to Our Love The UK selects a 5th placer from the TV show Fame Academy. This seems like one of the more forgettable UK entries. “Hold On” is a gradually paced, swaying, uplifting, acoustic singalong. The “HOLD ON” yelps are about the only thing that saves this from fading into the background, though. I get the sense that not enough thought was put into this entry. It's basic. Cyprus: Lisa Andreas - Stronger Every Minute Nothing new to add. Turkey: Athena - For Real The host entry lands in 4th! “For Real” instantly stands out due to its genre and staging. It's an indie/punk rock song that appears authentic. The arrangement is dynamic, between the opening guitar riff, the trumpets, and the jumpy chorus. The lead singer has charisma. The outfits are eye catching. The groove energizes the audience. And there's nonsense anti-conformity lyrics. I kinda love this lol. Romania: Sanda - I Admit The Romanian entry contains a banging “ethnic pop” percussion beat, and engaging choreo. But Sanda's vocal is inconsistent and it ruins the flow. The song is basic too, although the guitar rhythm is enjoyable and there's an aura of sexiness. In the song, Sandra is not ashamed of what love does to her. Sweden: Lena Philipsson - It Hurts This is basically “The Winner Takes It All” by ABBA; the piano chords especially. Which means Sweden channels ABBA four times in six years. Indeed, the melody is predictable. That said, “It Hurts” did land in the top 5. I wish they kept the Swedish version from Melodifestivalen, though. The succession of syllables in the chorus flows nicely in Swedish, as opposed to the English ones (“Hurts, oh it hurts, really hurts”), which does not. Anyway, the performance opens with a blast. The “nobody but me...” hook is effective. The song has a natural bounce. And Lena is fierce and confident on stage. Her interactions with the microphone stand are amusing. Fun fact: she entered Melodifestivalen three times in the 80's, but finally won it in 2004.  The Winner: So, in 2002 Latvia managed to win Eurovision on just their third participation. Two years later and Ukraine does it on their second. Which was a record at the time, excluding the 1950's. This quick victory asserted Ukraine as a legitimate contender in the contest. Indeed, the next 15 years will witness several more strong finishes from them (ie. Verka, “Shady Lady”, “Gravity”, “1944”). “Everyway That I Can” kick started the “ethnic pop” era of Eurovision, while “Wild Dances” advanced it. The arrangement in Ruslana's song is simply phenomenal – the alphorn opening, the catchy “hey”'s, the moment when the bass line hits in the intro, the “DUN.... DUN... DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN” percussion stamps... even the yodelling in the bridge. The usage of Ukrainian and gibberish is effective too. This song slaps hard. The pounding beat gets in your brain and the melody is extremely is catchy. Meanwhile, the staging is executed flawlessly. The dance sequence is so chaotic and fluid. The jungle warrior outfits are iconic. The flames on the LED screens are a nice touch too. Visually speaking, “Wild Dances” is a top tier winner. Although, vocally, the studio version is smoother than the live performance. Verdict: “S” Tier. Spoiler alert, but 03/04/05 might be my favourite run of winners ever. My Ranking: Grand Final 01. Barcelona look set fair for La Liga after finding consistency but Pablo Machín’s side might just have emerged as the next best, writes Andy Brassell… “Sevilla they looked like the real deal here – particularly in the first half, when they gave La Liga’s best defence perhaps the stiffest working-over that it has had all season.”
The opening weekend of La Liga really couldn’t have gone any better for Barcelona. The leaders’ 2-1 win at Getafe wasn’t straightforward, but it left them with a five-point lead at the top of the table. It also put the setting on Barça’s own Super Sunday, in which Sevilla and Atlético Madrid cancelled each other out in the day’s headline clash before Real Madrid’s listless display saw Real Sociedad win at the Bernabéu for the first time in 15 years. In a season that has been wracked with surprises and inconsistency so far, the title holders’ run of five successive La Liga wins feels as if it could be a decisive step to retaining their crown, which they are clear favourites to do at [1.16]. The European champions’ humbling was an unexpected bonus, cutting them ten points adrift of top spot (they are now all the way out at [14.0]), which Ernesto Valverde and company couldn’t have seen coming.Atlético undone by stalemates The draw in Andalucia was, on the other hand, more in line with what they might have hoped for at the start of the day. Atlético’s modus operandi hasn’t really changed, but their difficulties in edging tight matches looks like stymying their title bid, priced at [13.5]. Sunday’s stalemate at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuan was their eighth already in just 18 games. Even in a season that looks highly unlikely to require 100 points – or anywhere near – from its champions, this looks like leaving them short. When Antoine Griezmann, having scored Atleti’s first-half equaliser in some style, wasted a one-on-one with Tomás Vaclik in the last ten minutes, it felt like the sort of decisive moment that needed to be made the most of by a potential title winner.Surprisingly coherent Sevilla Still, it would hardly have been deserved. If there was one major take-home from the game, it was that this Sevilla side are way better than anyone could have reasonably expected at this point in the season. This was supposed to be a transitional campaign for Pablo Machín’s team as they continue to build post-Monchi, bringing in a coach with a different tactical outlook to recent incumbents and bedding in a sporting director in Joaquín Caparrós with little pedigree in the role, even if he does share great history with the club.Yet they looked like the real deal here – particularly in the first half, when they gave La Liga’s best defence perhaps the stiffest working-over that it has had all season. Sevilla are a side with real personality, from their three-man backline to strike pairing Wissam Ben Yedder and André Silva. Ben Yedder, one of the best natural finishers anywhere in Europe, scored the opener and though Silva hasn’t scored since November, he was a width of a post away from doing so against Atleti, having beaten Jan Oblak with a rocket of a shot.Biggest threat to Barcelona? Sevilla’s price for the title is [42], and you could argue that they’re doing well to be that short after finishing last season in such a fractious state. They’ve only lost once in La Liga since September, though, and that was at Camp Nou. With their goalscoring power – and with the still-acclimatising Quincy Promes ready to contribute in the season’s second half – they could even be the biggest threat to Barcelona.

2018 GRAMMY Winners: The Complete List!
Once more with feeling! The 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards traveled across the country for the first time in 15 years on Sunday, airing live on CBS from Madison Square Garden in New York.
And that wasn’t the only way the annual awards show set some records. The show marked the first time a white male was not nominated for Album of the Year in nearly 20 years.
After Beyonce’s headline-making performance last year, the Lemonade singer was not set to perform at this year's show, but that didn’t mean there was a lack of A-list acts. The show's lineup of epic performances, include a duet between the newly announced retiree, Elton John, and Miley Cyrus, and a touching tribute to the innocent victims of the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting from the Brothers Osbourne, Maren Morris and Eric Church.
Many stars planned to make a statement, wearing white roses to show solidarity with the Time’s Up movement on the red carpet. This comes after Hollywood led the charge earlier this month at the Golden Globes, with almost all of the attendees wearing black gowns and suits.
Host James Corden admitted to ET’s Keltie Knight ahead of the show, “[I’m] nervous all the time. I’m never not nervous, so yes, I’ll be terrified.”
