Due to the deeds of the previous birth, Dhritarashtra was born blind and lost his hundred sons.

The Mahabharata war was over. Lord Krishna foiled Dhritarashtra's attempt to kill Bhima by pressing him in his arms. Dhritarashtra was ashamed. Vidurji explained to him that Shri Krishna is God. Take knowledge from him in the last moments of life.

Dhritarashtra asked Shri Krishna - You are God, you tell me why so much injustice happened to me. I was born blind, my hundred sons were killed. Now there is no name left of my clan. God, what sin have I committed for which I am being punished.

Lord Krishna started telling - Maharaj Dhritarashtra, you were a king in your previous birth. A supreme ascetic Brahmin lived in your kingdom. The Brahmin had a pair of swans. who had four children.

The Brahmin had to go on a pilgrimage but was unable to go because of the worries of taking care of the swans. The Brahmin told his concern to a monk. The monk said - By calling swans an obstacle in the pilgrimage, you are doing injustice to the birds and spoiling their next birth.

Brahmin got worried. He asked the monk - why would I want to spoil the next birth of my beloved swans. The sage told that due to the blame of being an obstacle in the Lord's work on the swans, his next birth is getting spoiled.

Brahmin understood the matter. He requested the sage to show him the way. The monk said - The king is the guardian of the people. You and your swans are both his subjects. Keep the swans under the protection of the king and go on pilgrimage.

Shri Krishna continued talking to Dhritarashtra - Maharaj Brahmin left his pair of swans and their children with you and went on a journey. One day you felt the urge to eat meat. You thought that you have eaten the flesh of all living beings but haven't eaten the flesh of a goose.

You fried and ate two baby swans. You got the taste of goose meat. One by one the swan had hundred children and you kept on eating them all. At last the pair of swans died.

After many years, when that Brahmin returned from pilgrimage and asked about his swans, you said that the swans had fallen ill. You got him treated but he did not survive.

The Brahmin blindly trusted you and you took advantage of that blind trust. That's why you had hundred sons. You betrayed the person who went on pilgrimage and put superstitious faith in you. You didn't even follow Rajdharma by robbing the people's heritage.

You got hundred sons because of the sin of roasting and eating hundred swans. Because of lying to the person who blindly trusted you and not following Rajdharma, you became blind and a failure in governance.

Shri Krishna said - Betrayal is the biggest deceit. You are reaping the fruits of that sin.

It is celebrated as the last five days of the month of Kartik (from Kartik Shukla Ekadashi to the full moon). It is also known as Mahapanchak, Bakpanchak or Bhishmapanchak Vishnupanchak. Those who can't afford to spend the entire month of Kartik observe these five days. Many of the natives have been living for seven days since the ninth, Radhapad Darshan day. During these five days, Hindus abstain from amish and eat sattvic food.

Legend-- Legend has it that the bugs are also said to abstain from eating amish, so it is also called "Buck Panchak". " Many people observe this ritual in order to have children.
