My mother actually suggested I needed to decide if I wanted to feed my future dog meat or a vegetarian diet because she fell for the "dogs are omnivores so obviously they don't HAVE to eat meat" thing. Like man, I'm not feeding my poor dog a horrible no meat diet. I'll give my dog really gross treats that I don't like if that's what makes him healthy and happy.

I will never understand the obsession with the thinking that omnivore = can only be one or the other, rather than omnivore = can digest and needs nutrients from both. Even when my dogs eat raw they still get things like tripe (which contains semi-digested plant matter), pumpkin, berries, apples, plant-based supplements made with kelp and seaweed and flaxseed... But for whatever reason people tend to think that dogs being omnivores (which they’re not, they’re opportunistic carnivores that evolved the ability to digest plant matter during the domestication process, true omnivores are skunks and bears and raccoons etc and in fact eat a mostly plant/trash/carrion diet whereas dogs will hunt and scavenge depending on their environment but w/e I guess) means that dogs can ONLY have meat or ONLY have veggies and still be healthy that way and THAT’S NOT HOW OMNIVOROUS ANIMALS WORK IN THE FIRST PLACE (//raddaradda I took animal biotech courses for a reason and this annoys the bejesus out of me radda)
