#Racism homophobia transphobia absolutely SHOULD be getting called out in fandoms

Apparently a hot take but i really think that authors, artists, game developers, etc shouldn't be TOO involved with the fandom surrounding what they created. By all means interact with it as much as you want, but i feel like if you try to insert yourself too much in a fandom space you're bound to see things that you dont like.
I see this with one fandom im in where the creators were way too involved and it led to them getting some really bizzare parasocial fans (wich can happen to anyone but specially if ur too involved in your fandom) but also to them trying to control every single thing their fandom posts.
You as a creator ARE allowed to be uncomfortable with certain fanmade content, but you cannot make a fandom of thousands of people on multiple different websites only post sanitized content that you fully agree with. You can ask them to not show that kind of content to you, but you cannot stop it from being made.
There will always be sometimes that you dont like on the Internet and no matter how much it makes you uncomfortable, you cannot stop those who make those contents and its also not right to harrass them or send others to do so, best i can tell you to do is block and move on.
#Note that this is NOT about any sort of discrimination.#Racism homophobia transphobia absolutely SHOULD be getting called out in fandoms#Amongst other things.#But those are not what this post is about.#If you put an animated series/game/audio rp on the internet#Its bound to get a fandom#And things that you dont like will probably brew from it#The best thing you as a creator can do is distance yourself from those things#(specially if its something completely harmless like a teenager doing oc x canon)#interacting with content that makes you uncomfortable and fighting your fandom for it WILL ONLY MAKE YOU STRESSED#Theres many types of content i absolutely despise#But i dont go out of my way to lecture people! I just block and move on!#You should do it too.#But also. Lets respect creators boundaries okay?#If they tell you “dont tag me in or post [insert content] in our official discord server”#You better listen to that.#That is a space where they can will and SHOULD have full control over.#Dont come crying when you get banned from a server for breaking a rule after multiple people warned you of it.#fandom#fandom discourse#fandom etiquette#fandom problems

Wassup.
It's me, Cunty Yellow Pikmin, Cunty for short, CYP if ya don't wanna say the word "cunty," or Cleo "Cunty" Cassidy Cordatum de Yellow Pikmin if ya wanna get reallyyyyy formal.
My pronouns are she/her.
I'm a former member of r/Pikmin's Discord Server "The Zoo," so if you've seen me before then it was probably there. (ask me stuff or DM me!) Unfortunately, I don't have Discord anymore. That's why I made a Tumblr account so I can still talk to the Pikmin fandom.
I speak English and Spanish (Español) fluently. I'm learning Chinese (中文:普通话)(more proficiency) and Japanese(日本語)(less proficiency) as well.
A little about me, I guess. I was born with a Dandori Issue (ADHD) that may end up staying with me for the rest of my life, so if I don't keep my stuff updated then that's probably why, or I'm hyperfocusing on studying cuz I managed to romanticize it for a day and then everything goes back to normal. I draw, paint (a little), produce music, write, crochet, sew, and I'm learning 3D modeling, animation, and a bunch of other things. Call me a jack-of-all-trades, if you will.
UPDATE: I am now, in fact, associated with the original creator (@beansisbugs) of the Cunty Yellow Pikmin meme. We’re moots now!!
Discriminatory people get off my turf, y'all haters ain't allowed on my block. So get yo racism, sexism, homophobia, and whatever else you got there outta my sight, cuz this is no place for hate. If you think otherwise, I'll draw you pregnant, send you to the torture room and then let you pick your execution, or I'll simply just block you. Depends on how I feel. Extremists aren't allowed here either. I'm a feminist, but Radfem is technically another word for misandry and transphobia, so I won't allow it. The goal of feminism is for women to be treated equally to men, not more than them.
PEDOPHILES, ZOOPHILES, NECROPHILES, PROSHIPPERS, AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT IS SIMILAR OR FALLS INTO THIS CATEGORY OF WEIRD CREEPY PEOPLE SHOULD ALSO STAY AWAY FROM ME!!!!
I dare you to check my AO3 it's absolutely horrendous that y'all wouldn't wanna go there. Literally just a Pikmin AU that doesn't even have it's first chapter out yet (as of 11/3/2024) so until I manage to refine the first chapter I'll just let y'all wait I guess. Also I don't know if the Pikmin community would even like whatever the hell I'm cooking. I just gotta find out...
If i already posted any art here, I won't be posting much from now on. Only wips or drawings I don't really care about will be thrown here. The reason why is because of Tumblr's AI takeover and I don't trust the opt-out option in settings. The only place I'm putting my finished art in is Cara or AO3.
Oh yeah I wanna make YouTube videos of Pikmin creations and whatnot, so maybe y'all would wanna watch them?
Okay I talked long enough. Remember guys, Gaslight Gatekeep, Girlboss.

6. What is your darkest fear about writing?
i love this question because it’s so ominous yet incredibly vague. what scares me when writing? what frightens me about the work I actually produce? is there an inherent anxiety I should be experiencing about the idea of other people reading my work? who knows! what an absolute sandbox of a question. lemme give this one a go:
nothing really scares be about writing—I’m pretty good about not letting fear or anxiety influence my process. I think the closest thing I’ve experienced to feeling writing/story-related fear is the anxiety that I won't be able to adequately write about an experience that I can't personally relate to.
I made my mark on the Tumblr-sphere around 2010-2012 and only dove head first into tumblr fandom stuff after I already had a decent following. this means that I already was doing a weird mixture of careful self-censoring while also being extremely outspoken and annoying about Calling Things Out—you’ll recognize this as The Thing virtue-signaling BNFs do where they’ll try to cancel someone who enjoys fucked up ship dynamics or problematic characters while also acting like only they have the ability to write or commentate about subjects A, B, or C because they have the “necessary” lived experiences and obviously anyone who doesn’t fit inside the personal mold of the topics they’re writing could never properly write about these topics (re: sexual assault/racism/homophobia and transphobia/etc.)—so as someone who can relate to that mindset, there will always be a smidge of anxiety over how prominent that Type of reader has become. of course, people find a lot of worth in #ownvoices, but when it becomes expected that only people in marginalized groups write about or as that group... you can see how that gets... sketchy...
that's something I'm not going to unpack here since so many other people have talked about it so much better than I could ever, but it's that problematic mindset that inspires a little bit of unease as I start considering working on/developing ofic. so I guess I could say my darkest fear (although it doesn't feel dark; it's just me being hyperaware of the current state of affairs) is that any of my writing could lose its credibility or worth if I dared to write about a lived experience outside of my own. if that makes sense 🙇🏼♀️
7. What is your deepest joy about writing?
I love to create!!!! I love the way it makes me feel! I love the writing process, start to finish, and I love looking back on works I've written and feeling a variety of fantastic emotion!!!! I've rarely written work I wouldn't seek out to read myself, and knowing that not only am I capable of creating work that I find worthy of reading, but that I do it with regularity is a really cool thing. when I'm sitting in my bed at 2am, trying to convince myself to close my laptop and go to sleep since I've been writing for 13 consecutive hours, I'm truly in my happiest place. not to MENTION how good it feels to be able to witness your progress as a writer as time passes; THAT is a wonderful feeling and brings my joy to a whole new level ♡
22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?
I’ve always been super organized when it comes to writing! when I was a teenager (since I didn’t have a laptop like I do now) I kept most of my fic in this trusty thing.
and I’ve shared posts about it before that really detail how organized I got with the fics I wrote in high school, and although I definitely don’t hand write fic anymore (I still can’t believe how many years I did that for—kids these days don’t understand etc etc yada yada) my organizational process is pretty similar, only now I use my iphone notes to throw my ideas/thoughts into and I use countless spotify playlists to keep my song inspo sorted!
most of my brainstorming happens in my iphone notes app, and once I have a solid base or idea I’ll usually take that outline to scrivener and start building from there. for example, here’s roots’ scrivener doc:
and why yes, it is taking up so much space on my computer, and yes, it is overdue for a backup to my hard drive 💀 but yes, tldr; I use iphone notes and scrivener, almost exclusively!
weird questions for writers!

Frequently Asked Questions
Given how new this is, these are mainly an attempt to head off the main questions I think people might have, based on my own experience in fandom as well as what I've seen others doing in their event weeks. As questions are sent in however, this will be updated!
💡 What is this?
Shinra Holiday Party is an annual Final Fantasy VII event to celebrate the winter holidays with our favorite Shinra Personnel, be it Turks, SOLDIERs, or board members! We'll post a week's worth of prompts, and you see if any of those prompts inspire a fanwork.
💡 How do the prompts work?
Basically, there's a post that will have the days listed with the prompt for each day. You do not have to fill all of the prompts to participate, and if you want to post them out of order, please feel free! However, please note that if you post them out of order, they will be scheduled to be reblogged on the event blog on the "correct" day, just to kind keep things together.
💡 How do I participate?
By posting a work either here on tumblr or to our AO3 collection! If you're posting here on tumblr, be sure to either use the #shinraholidayparty tag or ping us (@shinraholidayparty) so that you can get reblogged to the event blog.
💡 What kind of work is allowed?
Any kind of work! Writing, art, graphics, fanmixes, gifsets, and any other kind of fanwork is allowed.
Traced, plagiarized, and AI works are not considered eligible for the event.
💡 Can non-Shinra characters appear in the work?
Of course! Our Shinra crew doesn't operate in a vacuum after all. If you would like to include some of the AVALANCHE team or some OCs or honestly, anyone at all, please feel free to do so.
💡 What if I can't make any content? Is there any way that I can still help?
Absolutely! It's called "signal-boosting," and it will greatly help the fanworks reach more people! You can reblog the prompt list post as well as any entries that you see that you enjoy. Sharing and commenting is loving!
💡 How do I tag sensitive content?
So I'm going to go a little in-depth on this just in case you're new to tagging in general.
If you are posting your fic to the AO3, you should be using the Archive warning labels as appropriate. These labels are as follows:
Graphic depictions of violence.
Major character death.
Rape/Non-Con
Underage
If you use "Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings," your work will not be reblogged to the event account.
You must also use the Archive's Rating system appropriately, choosing one of the following:
General Audiences
Teen and Up Audiences
Mature
Explicit
Please see the Archive's guides on Ratings and Warnings if you have further questions. You may also find the Archive's guide on Tag Types or "How to Tag" useful.
In addition to that, it's generally considered polite to tag/warn for any of the following:
Abuse (including Child Abuse / Neglect)
Ageplay / DDLG / DDLB / etc.
Animal Cruelty/Death/Harm
Any AU settings, including Cafe AUs, Omegaverse (or even just A/B/O Dynamics), Modern AU, etc.
BDSM / RACK
Body Horror / Medical Horror
Drug Use
Dubious Consent
Genderbending
Incest
Kinks in general should be tagged so people can find them!
Kinks specifically regarding bodily fluids, such as Bloodplay / Scat / Emetophilia / etc.
Pregnancy
Racism / Transphobia / Homophobia / etc.
Torture (psychological or physical)
Now, it is not required that you use these tags, although if the work is reblogged to the event account, you may see these tags added where appropriate.
💡 Is this event related to the Shinra Holiday event on Twitter in 2020?
Short answer: no. Long answer: Still no, but this event was heavily inspired by that one.
💡 Why are there lightbulb emojis?
Because it's for the Shinra Electric Company! 💡💡💡 And because I wanted something cute to break up the visual monotony of all the text.
💡 I have a question not addressed here!
By all means, send in an ask!

Welcome to the wonderful world of my madness
My Introduction
Hey guys your friendly neighborhood creature here. For those you you who don’t know me personally hellooooo, I’m Coda or you can call me duck (the quacking kind) and it’s my pleasure to introduce you to the madness of my mind (also know as my blog) where I post tickle related fanfics head cannons, occasionally my thoughts, a few teases here and there, and show you an introduction to my “madness”. I don’t post to terribly often at the moment but as time goes on and my writers block goes away there will be more content I promise!
A Bit About Me
Ah ooo where do I start about me? Well, I a huge book nerd and I love reading. My current favorite author is Rebecca Yarros who is known for her series The Empyrean. I’m a huge fantasy nerd in love with all things dragon and magic. I’m also really big on gaming I’m currently working my way through TellTales Walking Dead Series and I’m absolutely loving it. I’m also amazing in the kitchen whether I’d be baking or cooking I’ll probably have a good recommendation for a recipe (but don’t tell anyone I get them off of Pinterest). As for music I’m a lover of all genres though my favorite is tied between indie, rock, and pop!
Fandoms I Write For
I mainly will be writing for the MCU and The Last of Us however this duck may write for other fandoms if I see the for it as in lack of content so if you have any suggestions feel free to shoot me an ask or a dm and I’ll happily follow up.
Rules
I know I know the worst thing about some places is rule but I promise most of these should be common sense and it sucks I have to make some however there are people out there who I suppose might need them so here they are
Please be respectful of me I’m human I may not answer right away but I will most likely get to you soon if not just shoot me an ask if it’s been a while incase tumblr eats it
I ask that there is no homophobia transphobia racism or hate of any kind on my page I will not hesitate to block you for it. We all bleed the same and there’s absolutely no need for it
I get this is a mostly sfw but for my sake anyone under the age of 18 or ageless blogs please don’t interact with me
And that’s it for the rules
Finally
Finally I know see what I mean by madness I’m totally losing it my blog is meant to be fun and enjoyable for everyone so I hope you do and I hope we can all grow together as a community. To make things easier I’m going to be adding tags to my posts to make navigation of my page a whole lot easier.

Honest question. Why is cancel culture bad? Like I'm seeing people defend Dave Chapelle or just not care about the shitty things he said. As a transwomen he can fuck right off. Why do we tolerate comedians or anyone famous saying shitty things? Like you have influence over tons of people. If you're going to use that power to say ignorant harmful stuff then step the fuck aside until you can be a better influence. Famous people need to be better because they have mass influence.
Hey, anon!
So this is a pretty complicated topic and I’m going to attempt to explain my own viewpoint with the understanding that it… might not be the most coherent post I’ve ever written lol. Basically though, I think the main takeaway here is that “cancel culture” is not the same thing as “criticizing someone for saying horrible things.” It’s not the same thing as a boycott. It’s not the same thing as activism. Cancel culture is a very particular, mob mentality response that ultimately just makes everything worse and it’s this response that people are pointing to when they say, “cancel culture is bad.” So, what are the problems with cancel culture?
First, it doesn’t allow for any gray areas. Admittedly, that may not seem like much of a problem when we’re talking about something as awful as a celebrity being transphobic. (And for the record, I’m not on the up-and-up about everything Chapelle has said lately, so all these examples are generalized, not geared towards his situation.) It’s easy to go, “How can you think there’s any gray area when it comes to racism/sexism/homophobia/transphobia/etc.?” but the point here is that cancel culture doesn’t discriminate between the legitimately heinous rhetoric that a long-standing celebrity has been spouting for years, and the ignorant comment made by the up-and-coming influencer they legitimately didn’t know was a problem. Or the patterns of behavior someone now knows is wrong, but needs time to unlearn. Or the moment when they were at their lowest, made a mistake, and now that is forever immortalized via social media, brought up again and again as a way to perpetually shame them. Under cancel culture, every act is equalized as The Worst Thing Ever even though, in reality, most situations are not equal. The transphobe deliberately trying to influence their massive audience is not the same thing as an older celebrity not knowing the latest terminology and mistakenly insulting a group. But through cancel culture, each individual’s tweets will be screenshotted, passed around, and used as evidence for how horrible they are—with those trying to provide the context of the latter example ("It really was an innocent mistake in this case") are easily drowned out by the crowd.
Similarly, cancel culture doesn’t allow for any change. It’s right there in the name: you’re cancelled. It’s a final thing. Once you’ve done the Bad Thing, that’s it, you’re done. It doesn’t allow for education, improvement, apologies, or absolution, even though most people will say that’s precisely what they’re looking for. To provide a small example, recently in the RWBY fandom an artist made a modern, real life AU where the webseries’ characters were reimagined as actors. She ended up leaving out one character’s prosthetic arm, referring to it as a “prop” in this AU. Getting a great deal of backlash for that, she apologized, explained her ignorance, and took action by fixing the art. She did everything she should have, yeah? Personally, I was thrilled to see someone listening, apologizing, and taking action to demonstrate the importance of what they've now learned. That's great! Exactly the sort of improvement we want to see in the world. Except twitter was filled with people saying that she hadn't apologized enough, that they can’t trust her now, that she’s only saying this to avoid the bad PR, etc. Cancel culture breeds the idea that change isn’t possible, even while we paradoxically call for it, which means that, under this mentality, we’ll never see improvement. People aren’t allowed to come back from being cancelled, which not only continues to alienate those who are working to be better, but likewise “justifies” those who aren’t. “See, they don’t really care about you,” the bigot says, pointing to how it’s impossible to come back from making a mistake (which, being human, is inevitable). “Why bother? You did everything they told you to and it still wasn’t enough, so just.... continue being an asshole.”
And to clarify that, this doesn’t mean that those hurt from this behavior, as individuals, need to forgive the celebrity in question. Once someone acts in that way—deliberately or not—each person is, of course, allowed to continue not liking them, not engaging with their products, being personally wary of their interests. Rather, I’m talking about the collective behavior of continually insisting to others that change is not possible, or not to be trusted. There’s a big difference between someone going, “Yeah, I’m glad they’ve educated themselves, but I personally can’t enjoy their content after everything they’ve said” and someone making posts reminding the community at large that this person did a Bad Thing and you should all refrain from engaging with them, no matter how long ago that was, what’s happened since then, the context of the situation, the fact that they apologized, whatever.
Which brings me to the fact that cancel culture, ultimately, becomes a way to punish peers, not the celebrity in question. “If you're going to use that power to say ignorant harmful stuff then step the fuck aside until you can be a better influence” is fantastic advice, but the sad reality is that most celebrities are not going to take it. That reality (hard as it is to hear) is that we have very little, practical influence on people who have achieved that level of fame, wealth, and notoriety. Yes, we can boycott their content, try to shame them into changing, warn others about what they’re done… but there's only so much we can truly accomplish through those means, especially when it comes to celebrities immersed in our culture. JKR remains an easy example. We’d like to believe that sending her a heartfelt tweet about the harm she's caused will be the catalyst that makes her realize how horrific her views are, but the reality is she’s a millionaire entrenched in global culture and we’re strangers she can block with a single click. It’s hard as hell to educate the people in your everyday life who have some incentive (like loving you) to unlearn that level of bias—many, many queer people will know this struggle—now imagine trying to do that work over social media to someone who only knows we exist as an abstract concept. "The fans." The result of all this is that those fans, frustrated and feeling powerless, turn to policing their own community instead. If they can’t have an impact on the celebrity themselves, if JKR won't change, they’ll try to impact the people closer to them—and remember, what they’re trying to accomplish is coming from that black and white, “I’m right and you’re wrong” viewpoint. The idea isn't to provide the community with a nuanced look into how JKR fell into these beliefs and how others can avoid the same trap (people are not born transphobic, they learn that shit), it's about telling the community that she was always Evil, we're Not Evil, except if you do anything we don't like you will be deemed Evil very, very quickly. That’s how we end up with fans tearing into one another for daring to still engage with this content, still finding any joy in it, forgiving a celebrity when someone else hasn't been able to yet… everything but criticizing the celebrity themselves anymore. In the last couple of years, I’ve seen more think pieces about how other fans are the devil for still enjoying parts of Harry Potter than I’ve seen pieces about JKR’s own transphobia. Cancel culture warps blame, simply by virtue of everyone wanting to (understandably) change a not easily changed situation. Cancel culture is far more likely to punish the trans person for watching the Harry Potter movies on their down time than it is to punish the actual transphobe. And, as already established, punishment here is both ineffective and, at a certain point, unnecessary. Obviously, I’m no longer speaking about JKR whose beliefs are deep and her harm incredibly wide-reaching. I’m talking about the celebrity who said something questionable in an interview once, has made major strides since then, but every couple months something brings the clip back to remind everyone, “You’re not allowed to like them and if you do like them (or something they produced, something they were in, something they made long before any of this came out, etc.) I’ll put all my attention towards making you pay for that.”
Now, take all this and add it to the fact that cancel culture is never really about explaining to someone why their views are harmful in the hope that you will improve the world a little bit. It’s about suicide baiting. Doxing. Threatening their friends and family. Saying such horrific things that everyone else reading it learns, “Okay, so when someone does something I think is wrong I can just tell them to go get gang raped. That’s a completely acceptable response to any situation and in no way reflects my own bigoted views.” If cancel culture actually meant educating someone, systematically boycotting works to show associated creators such views won't be tolerated, leaning into various forms of activism to combat that hate, or even just saying, “I will not support them so long as they forward this rhetoric” on a large scale… we wouldn’t be having this conversation. The point is that cancel culture isn’t any of those things. It’s a black and white mob mentality that feeds into the worst parts of online culture and the result is almost never what people hope will occur (getting the celebrity to stop), but instead just harms a lot of innocents caught up in the mess. To say nothing of the mental health of the person participating in cancel culture to begin with. It’s overwhelming to be confronted with thousands of voices denouncing a single individual, detailing their every fault, laying out all the new (ever changing, contradictory) rules for how everyone else can appropriately talk about them. Cancel culture isn’t just about how the celebrity is acting inappropriately, it’s arguably more about how everyone else is acting too. The moment you join in, your own blog, feed, life is under scrutiny to ensure you’re “correctly” responding to the situation. The moment you slip up and say something the mob doesn’t like, you’re the one being cancelled.
Cancel culture is bullying at its most extreme, it’s never confined to its original target, it thrives on black and white thinking, accepting accusations without doing your own research, and it doesn’t achieve any of the things people hope it will. It is, ultimately, about dominating and feeling superior, not educating and protecting vulnerable minorities. By all means, still boycott celebrities who you believe have done wrong, or write posts explaining the harm you see in their behavior, but cancel culture is a very particular, wide-spread phenomenon wherein the type and extent of public shaming does far more harm than good. People need to be held accountable for their actions, absolutely, but that’s not a good way to go about it.

first go support abortion rights
hey guys my name is cam (or cameron, camcake, cammy, camcorder, camborghini etc) and i'm the producer of the what i will say podcast! i use she/her pronouns and i'm gay as hell. i'm from the southeast of the US and i'm here to talk pop culture, gossip, celebs, and offer a bit of sisterly advice should you so want it! this started out as a gaylor swift blog but now I'm open to talking about just about anything that piques my interest so let's jump in!
if you use any of my original theories or analysis please credit me by tagging me on whatever social media platform you're creating on

community guidelines:
1. i used to call it dark shipping but let's just call it what it really is - harassment. if you read or interact with this blog you agree never to contact a celeb or person that we gossip about in regards to their personal life. you agree never to tweet at someone about how gay they secretly are or dm them on instagram about a suspected ship or comment on their pictures gossip about them or contact their friends and family. this is harassment and i know for a fact celebs sometimes see it and they do not like it. be respectful and keep fandom content such as gossip and shipping to the appropriate fandom spaces or you ruin it for the rest of us.
2. absolutely zero racism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other form of bigotry will be tolerated here.
3. understand that I am here in good faith. this means I am not here to troll people, to be petty, to be unfairly and overly critical, or to get into pedantic pissing matches based on semantics with people. i am generally, or I at least strive to be, a sweet person (a camcake even). i do not want to fight with you. if you want to have good faith debate I'm all for it but if you just don't like me, that's completely fine, but please just dni. we don't all have to get along it's a big internet there's room enough for all of us.
4. understand that disagreement and conflict do not equate to abuse. just because I may hold a different opinion than you do does not mean am harming or abusing you. when I answer questions with a disagreement please read my comments as if I have a calm and respectful tone because that's how I intend it. i'm not here to fight with you.
5. please do not seek out fandoms that we "disagree with" and try to "educate" or "convert them". for example if you think taylor swift is gay please do not seek out people who think she's straight or people that ship her with joe alwyn and try to tell them they ought to think otherwise. it just makes people dislike you and all of us and can lead to abuse of innocent people. another example would be if you think swiftgron is the superior ship to kaylor. that's all well and good but please leave kaylors alone. in general, let's all be cool and stay in our own lanes. 6. i consider this blog to be an R-rated space. act accordingly.
faq:
q. what can I anon or message you about?
a. basically anything but I can't promise I have an answer! i don't love to post anything explicitly sexual, mean-spirited, salacious, or critical + i don't like to talk about e.d.s, judgments on bodies, or granular level queer politics.
q. why haven't you answered my message yet?
a. i get dozens of questions and comments a day and sometimes it takes me a while to get through them all or i may be researching my answer! but there's a chance your message is repetitive or just not Discourse i want to host here and if that's the case it may never be answered. that's ok just try another topic!
q. i saw (or heard) you say something the other day and then the next day you said the exact opposite! what’s up with that?
a. i am here to have fun, goof around, but also to report as close to the truth as i can. if i get new information that contradicts my previous beliefs i will update them accordingly! i also love a thought experiment where i just try on believing something for a while. in general, this is a gossip blog and a very speculative space. please try to just go with the flow as we all try and sort out what we believe together. q. you offended me personally or made me mad or hurt my feelings! what can i do about this?
a. i’m sorry i promise i didn’t mean to! like i said in my guidelines i am here in good faith. if you want to have a calm and level-headed discussion with me about something i am doing or saying that’s bothering you i beg you to IM me or DM me and i will be happy to talk it out with you like adults! i am not here for fandom drama, or childish behavior. i am very open to feedback and constructive criticism and i want to get along with everyone and i want to make you personally feel welcomed in this space! q. why don’t you follow me?
a. this is a side blog i can’t follow anyone from this URL!

also, i'm trying to get better with tags. you can filter "ot" to not see off-topic stuff, i will put advice under the advice tag, and if you see me guys missing a tag don't hesitate to let me know! my trigger/content warnings will be typed as such: "tw topic" so for example "tw abuse". i will also try and tag posts with sarcasm as "light-hearted" for those that have trouble discerning tone in text.
this faq is a work-in-progress 😉

Welcome to the beach! 🌴
Beach Blanket Black Sails is an 18+ fandom event to appreciate and share our love for Black Sails, Starz’ historical fiction pirate adventure series.
If you’re not familiar with the show, it’s a prequel to Treasure Island (yes, the same Treasure Island you may have enjoyed as a kid, but don’t worry about it). Black Sails is mid-2010’s premiere television, which means many beautiful people do extraordinary and sometimes awful things in expensive ways. There are ships, and cannons, and Spanish gold, and a lot of sex and violence. It also (eventually, we promise) tells stories about greed and power, narrative and truth, freedom and resistance, and about queer love, rage, and grief (and love, again).
Black Sails ended in 2017 and has been an understated but real presence in fandom since it started in 2014. There are about 4,800 fics in the Black Sails tags on Ao3. Lately, Black Sails seems to be picking up speed again in certain fandom circles, and so now seems like a good time for us to start shouting our love for it, too.
Okay, but what IS this?
Beach Blanket Black Sails is made up of two parts, both optional.
The first part is a semi-scheduled rewatch starting this summer. We’ll post a link to our proposed schedule, but you’re welcome to watch whenever it works for you.
(We should also mention that we’ve been calling it a rewatch but first-time viewers are also so, so welcome.)
The second part is a fic (and art, if you like!) fest. This will run throughout the fall, with the window for prompts opening on August 22, 2021 and final fills posted by December 10.
All of this will be supported through a Discord server. There will be a link to our server posted on this blog in the next few days, as we get it set up. We want this to be a fun, relaxed atmosphere; if you have experience modding and are interested in volunteering, please send us a DM or an ask!
Who can participate?
Everyone who is over 18 or the legal age of majority in your country is welcome to participate. Black Sails is emphatically adult content and we can’t endorse or take responsibility for minors (or for anyone, really) for whom that content isn’t suitable.
What are the rules?
A FAQ for the fest can be found here but in general, writers (and artists, if you like!) will fill prompts submitted by anyone participating in either the rewatch or the fic fest. Fills will be posted to an Ao3 collection and revealed around mid-December 2021.
The rules for participating in the event more generally are as follows:
This event is an adults-only event.
Be kind and respectful; remember that every username is a human being.
We shouldn’t have to say this, but this includes not harassing people for their ships, their meta, or their content.
We REALLY shouldn’t have to say this, but this also means that racism, homophobia, transphobia, queerphobia, ableism, fatphobia, ageism, sexism, and the like are not welcome in this event.
Finally, no complaining about pirate puns or silly server names. It gets us through the day!
Is there anything else I should know?
We’ve mentioned it already, but Black Sails is extremely adult content. The show contains graphic violence, torture, explicit sexual content, depictions of enslaved persons, sexual assualt, imperialism and colonialism, and extensive drug and alcohol use. It is also frequently funny, tender, heartbreaking, beautiful, and insightful. If this is your first time watching Black Sails, we ask that you enter into it prepared to encounter and engage with this content and these themes, or to back out or otherwise self-manage if you are not able to watch uninterrupted.
The deeply personal and variable nature of triggers means that we will not be providing content warnings or trigger warnings for each episode. You can find some detail on Does the Dog Die?; others may be found with a google search.
All of this said, we really do want this event to be fun. Black Sails is fascinating, but it’s also wildly entertaining and compelling TV! Please, put on your best pirate fits and grab a glass of your favourite (adult) beverage, and come shout with us about how incredible this absolutely wild piece of television is!

I am against the "Americanization" of fandoms.
What this applies to
Holding non American characters (and sometimes even fans) to an American moral standard. This includes
Refusing to take into account that, first things first, America is NOT the target audience, so certain tropes that would or would not pass in the west are different in Japan.
Like seriously, quite a few of the jokes are just not going to pass or hit, because they require background information that is not universal.
Assuming all American experience is standard. (This could mean watering down just how much pressure is placed on Japanese youth irl by saying that sort of thing is universal (while it is, to a degree, Japanese suicide rates are pretty fucking high because of how fast paced and work heavy some of their loads tend to be), and it's really annoying and rude when someone is trying to speak out about how heavy and harsh the standards are placed on them to succeed just for some American whose mom occasionally yells at them to do their homework dropping by to say "it's like that everywhere")
Demonizing (or wubbifying) a character using American morals, including and up to harassing fans over their interpretations or gatekeeping whether or not a character "should" get development (while you shouldn't do that fucking period, it's rude and annoying- this is specifically for the people who use American standards without acknowledging the cultural gap between them and, you know, the fucking target audience) ((Like seriously, saying "It's different in Japan" is not the end all be all excusing someone's actions, but sometimes the author didn't immediately think that maybe (insert vaguely universal thing) was that bad or that heavy of a topic before they put it into their media. If you don't want to see things like that? Pick a different series and stop harassing the fans))
Getting mad at or making fun of Japan's attempts to satirize their own culture. (A good example is Ace Attorney! To most of us, it's just a funny laugh can you imagine if courts were actually like that- guess what? Japan's are! (Not that America's are actually that much better, they just look good on paper))
Making America/American issues the center of your fan spaces
(Usually without sharing or bringing light to the issues that other countries are going through)
Your
Experiences
Are
Not
Univseral!
Seriously, very few things across America, even, are universal. Texas things the hundreds are nothing while Minnesota's like "oh it's only thirty degrees below zero"- so for fucks sake, stop assuming that all other countries work in ways similar to America.
It's good and important to share Ameican issues with your American followers, but guess what? America isn't the only country out there, and it's certainly not the only one going through bullshit. Don't pull shit like "why's no one reblogging this?" or "why should I care about what's happening in (X country)?"
Don't assume everyone lives in America.
Stop assuming everyone lives in America.
America is not and has never been the target audience for anime, and it's certainly not the only country outside of Japan that enjoys it.
Like I said above, sometimes Japan attempts to satirize its own culture. We can't tell what is and isn't meant as satire, because it's not our culture.
Social media activism can be tiring and maybe you don't have the energy to focus on things that are out of your control, but, if someone tells you about the shit they're going through, don't bring American politics up.
For the neurodivergent crowd out there thinking, "But why?" it's because a lot of social media, especially, is very heavily Americanized- sometimes to the point where people assume that everyone is American. Not to mention, it's disheartening. I'm sorry to say, but you're not actually relating to the conversation, you're often diverting the focus away from the topic at hand. Even if you mean well, America is heavily pedestaled and talked about frequently, and people from other countries are tired of America taking precedent over their own issues.
Don't divert non-American issues into American ones. Seriously. It's not your place. Please just support the original issue or move on.
Racist Bullshit
This especially goes for islanders and South Asian characters, as well as poc characters (because, yes, Japan DOES have black people)
Making "funny" racist headcanons. Not fucking cool.
Changing the canon interpretation of an explicit character of color in order to fit racist stereotypes.
Whitewashing or color draining characters. Different artistic skill sets can be hard, yes, but are you seriously going to look at someone and say "I don't feel like accurately portraying you or people that look like you, because it's difficult for me." If someone tries to correct you on your cultural depiction of a character and/or their life style, don't be an ass. (If possible, it would be nice for those that do the corrections to be polite as well, but it does get really frustrating).
Seriously, no offense guys, but, if you want to persue art, you're going to need to learn to depict different body types, skin colors, and/or ethnic features.
On that note, purposefully, willingly, or consistently inaccurately portraying people or characters of color (especially if someone in the fandom has "called you out" or specifically told you that what you're doing comes across as racist and you continue to do it). If you need help or suck at looking things up, there are references for you! Ask your followers if they have tutorials on poc (issue that you're having), whether it be bodily portrayal, facial proportions, or coloring and shading. Art is so much more fun when you can depict a wider variety, and guess what? Before you drew the same skinny, basic, white character over and over, you couldn't even draw that!
Attempting or claiming to DEPECT CULTURAL ACCURACY within a work or meta, while being completely fucking wrong. ESPECIALLY and specifically if someone calls you out, and you refuse to fix, correct, or change anything.
*little side note that the discussion revolving art is a very multilayered conversation, and it has quite a few technical potholes, which I'll bring up again farther into this post.
Fucking history
Stop demonizing or for absolute fucks sake wubbifying Japanese history because UwU Japan ♡0 or bringing up shit like "you know they sided with Nazis, right?" It's good to recognize poor past decisions, but literally it's not your country keep your nose out of it. And? A lot of decisions made by countries were not made by their general peoples. Even those that were, often involved heavy propaganda that made them think what they were doing was right.
Seriously, it's not your country, not your history. Unless you have some sort of higher education (but honestly even then a lot of those contain heavy bias), just don't butt in.
^^^ this also goes to all countries that are NOT Japan (specifically when people from non American countries talk about their history while in fandoms and someone wants to Amerisplain to them why "well, actually-"). When we said, "question your sources," we didn't mean "question the people who know better than you, while blindly accepting the (more than likely biased) education you were given in the past."
What this does NOT include:
Fanfiction
FANfiction
FanFICTION
FANFICTION.
Seriously, fanfiction is literally UNPAID WORK from RANDOM FANS- a lot of which who are or have started as kids. ((No, I'm not trying to excuse racist depictions of people just because they're free, please see above where I talk about learning to grow a skill and how it's possible tone bad and get good, on top of the fact that some inaccuracies are not just willful ignorance))
"Looking it up" doesn't work
"Looking it up" almost never works
Please, for fucks sake, you know that most all online search engines are heavily biased, right? Not to mention, not everything is universal across the entirety of Japan. You want to look up how the school system works in Hokkaido? Well it's different from the ones in Osaka!
Most fanfiction is meant to be an idealized version of the world. Homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, and racism are very prevalent and heavy topics that some fan authors would prefer to avoid. (Keep in mind, this is also used by some people in those minorities often because thinking about how relevant those kinds of things are is to them every day).
A lot of shit that happens in writing is purely because it's an ideal setting. I've seen a few arguments recently about how fan authors portray Japanese schools wrong- listen, I can't tell you how many random school systems I have pulled from my ass purely because (I need them to interact at these points, in these ways). Sometimes the only compliment I can think of is 'I like your shirt' or sometimes I need character A to realize that character B likes the same thing as they do, so I might ignore the fact that most all Japanese schools require uniforms, so that I can put my character in a shirt that will get someone else's attention.
Sometimes it's difficult to find information on different types of systems, and sometimes when you DO know those things, they directly rule out a plot point that needs to happen (like back on the topic of schools (from what I've seen/heard/read- which guess what? Despite being from multiple sources, might still be inaccurate!) Japanese schools don't have mandatory elective classes (outside of like gym and most of them usually learn English or another language- I've seen stuff about art classes? But the information across the board varies.), but, if I need my character to walk in and see someone completely in their element, I'm probably not going to try and gun for accuracy or make up a million and two reasons as to why this (non elective) person would possibly need something from (elective teacher) after school of all things.)
Some experiences ARE universal- or at least overlap American and Japanese norms! Like friends going to fast food places after school doesn't /sound Japanese/ or whatever, but it's not like a horrible inaccuracy to say that your characters ate at McDonald's because they were hungry. Especially when you consider that the Japanese idolization of American "culture" is also a thing.
Also I saw someone complaining about how, in December, a lot of (usually westerners) write Christmas fics! Well, not only are quite a few of those often gift fics, with it being the season if giving and all, but Japanese people do celebrate Christmas! Not as "the birth of Christ," but rather as a popularized holiday about gift giving (also pst: America isn't the only place that celebrates Christmas)
But, on that note, sometimes things like Holidays are "willfully ignorant" of what actually happens (I've made this point several times, but (also this does by no means excuse actual racism)), because, again: plot convenience! Hey what IF they celebrated Halloween by Trick or Treating? What if Easter was a thing and they got to watch their kids or younger siblings crawl around on the ground looking for tiny plastic eggs?
Fanfiction authors can put in hours of work for one or two thousand words- let alone ten thousand words, fifty thousand words, a hundred thousand words. And all of these are free. There is absolutely no (legal) way to make money off of their fanworks, but they spent hours, days, weeks, months- sometimes even years- writing. It is so unnecessary to EXPECT or REQUIRE them to spend even more hours looking up shit that, no offense, almost no one is going to notice. No one is going go care that all of my combini prices are accurate or that I wrote a fic with a Japanese map of a train station that I had to backwards search three times to find an English version that I could read.
Not everyone has the attention span or ability to spend hours of research before writing a single word. Neurodivergent people are literally a thing yall. Instead of producing the perfectly pretty accurate version of Japan that people want to happen, what ACTUALLY happens is that the writer reads and reads and reads and either never finds the information they need or they lose the motivation to write.
^^^ (This does NOT apply to indigenous or native peoples, like Pacific Islanders or tribes that exist in real life. Please make sure that you portray tribal minorities accurately. If you can't find the information you need (assuming that the content of the series is not specifically about a tribe), please just make one up (and for fucks sake, recognize that a lot of what you've been taught about tribal practices, such as shit like human sacrifices or godly worship, is actually just propaganda.)
Not to mention, it often puts a wall in front of readers who would then need to pull up their OWN information (that may or may not be biased) just in order to interact with the fic ((okay, this one has a little bit of arguability when it comes to things like measurements and currency, because Americans don't know what a meter is and no one else knows what a foot is- either way, one of yall is going to have to look up measurements if they want to get a better understanding of the fic)). However, a lot of Americans who do write using 'feet, Fahrenheit, dollars,' also write for their American followers or friends (which really could go both ways).
On a less easily arguable side, most fic readers aren't going to open up a new tab just to search everything that the author has written (re the whole deep topics, not everyone wants to read about those sorts of things, either). Not only are you making it more difficult on the writer, but you're also making it more difficult for the reader who's now wondering why you decided to add in Grandma's Katsudon recipe, and whether or not the details you have added are accurate.
Some series, themselves, ignore Japanese norms! Piercings, hair dye, and incorrectly wearing ones uniform are frowns upon in Japanese schools- sometimes up to inflicting punishment on those students because of it. However, some anime characters still have naturally or dyed blond hair some of them still have piercings or wear their uniforms wrong. Some series aren't set specifically in Japan, but rather in a vague based-off-real-life Japan that's just slightly different (like Haikyuu and all of its different prefectures). Sometimes they're based on real places, but real places that have gone through major changes (like the Hero Academia series with its quirks and shit).
Fandom is not a full time job. Please stop treating it like it is one. Most people in fandoms have to engage in other things like school or work that most definitely take precident over frantically Googling the cultural implications of dying your hair pink in Japan.
Art is also meant to be a creative freedom and is almost always a hobby, so there are a few cracks that tend to spark debate. Like I said, it is still a hobby, something that's meant to be fun (on this note!)
If trying new things and expanding your portfolio is genuinely making you upset, it's okay to take a break from it. You're not going to get it right on the first try and please, please to everyone out there critiquing artists' works, please take this into account before you post things.
I'm sorry to say, but, while it gets frustrating to see the same things done wrong over and over again, some people are genuinely trying. If it matters enough for you to point out, please offer solutions or resources that would possibly help the artist do better (honestly this could be said about a lot of online activism). I get that they should "want" to do better (and maybe they don't and your annoyance towards them is completely justified- again, as I said, if this becomes a repeated offense and they don't listen to or care about the people trying to help them, yeah you can be a bitch if it helps you feel better- just please don't assume that everyone is willfully ignorant of how hurtful/upsetting/annoying a certain way of portraying things is), but also WANTING to do better and ACTUALLY doing better are two different things.
Maybe they didn't realize what they were doing was inaccurate. Maybe they didn't have the right tutorials. Maybe they tried to look it up, but that failed them. Either way, to some- especially neurodivergent artists- just being told that their work is bad or racist or awful isn't going to make them want to search for better resources in order to be more accurate, it's just going to make them give up.
Also! In fic and in writing, no one is going to get it right on the first try. Especially at the stage where we creators ARE merely in fan spaces is a great time to "fuck around and find out", before we bring our willfully or accidentally racist shit into monetized media. Absolutely hold your fan creators to higher standards, but literally fan work has so little actual impact on popular media (and this goes for just about every debate about fan spaces), and constructive criticism as well as routine practice can mean worlds for representation in future media. NOT allowing for mistakes in micro spaces like fandoms is how you get genuinely harmful or just... bad... portrayals of minorities in popularized media that DOES have an impact on the greater public. OR you get a bunch of creators who are too afraid to walk out of their own little bubbles, because what if they get it wrong and everyone turns against them. It's better to just "stick with what they know" (hobbies are something that you are meant to get better at, even if that is a slow road- for all of my writers and artists out there, it does take time, but you will get it. To everyone else, please do speak up about things that are wrong, but don't make it all about what's wrong and please don't be rude. It's frustrating on both ends, so, if you can, please try not to escalate the situation more.)
Anyways, I'm tired of everyone holding fictional characters to American Puritanical standards, but I'm also tired of seeing every "stop Americanizing fandom" somehow loop into fanfiction and how all authors who don't make their fics as accurate as possible are actually just racist and perpetuating or enabling America's take over of the world or some shit.
Fan interpretation of published media is different than fan creation of mon monetized media. Americans dominating or monopolizing spaces meant for all fans (especially in a fandom that was never meant for them to begin with) is annoying and can be harmful sometimes. Americans writing out their own personal experience using random fictional characters (more often than not) isn't.
#just google it#better represent real life#if you tell a fic reader to ngl you're being pretty ableist and don't really have a good idea of how search engines work#also when people DO try to make culturally accurate fics often times at least one or two people will pop in and say 'actually that's wrong'#not to mention sometimes they might not even be right to begin with...#and okay once or twice it is what it is#but seriously if this keeps happening over and over most people are just going to stop writing or caring#fanfiction#fanfiction is literally free#fanfiction is free labor#adding layers upon layers of research and knowledge needed- on top of how difficult it can be to portray human emotion#it's not going to it's just going to make once starry eyed writers loss their ability to enjoy their work#and guess what#some ACTUALLY racist (or homophobic or transphobic or misogynistic) writer is going to swoop in not giving two fucks#and they're going to go on and get their work published because they don't care about accuracy

I don’t usually make my own posts about these types of things because I find I’m not good with wording stuff and others seems to do it better, but I have a few thoughts of my own.
If you think writers shouldn’t be calling out toxic behaviour they or others in a fandom receive than I think you yourself are only apart of the problems we talk about.
Allowing problematic behaviour in a fandom to thrive only hurts the fandom and the people in it. Not calling it out only adds to the issues and allows for them to become normalized. There’s also the fact that many people (readers, artists, writers, etc) will leave because of them. I’ve seen older fandoms die because of these reasons.
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve had in my dms and how many people I’ve seen commenting on posts saying that the reason they don’t write for our fandom is because of the behaviour that was being called out recently. Some used to write and stopped because their motivation and self worth was crushed by toxic stans of that fic.
That is honestly so incredibly depressing to think about.
Also
This doesn’t just apply to the rd situation either tbh.
Ive seen writers be harassed for talking about important issues in the fandom like racism, homophobia, fetishization, and etc. When these issues get called out in the fandom there are many people who sit there and send anons to the people trying to bring attention to the issues just to tell them that they shouldn’t be talking about them. Trying to to tell them that it’s unnecessary and that they’re only causing “drama” by talking about these issues. Some even receive hate anon because of it.
Someone literally called me the f slur once for example and some of the things I’ve seen poc in the fandom receive is absolutely disgusting.
Like The majority of this isn’t even just drama in the first place. Racism, homophobia, fetishization, transphobia, ableism, and etc is not “just drama”. These are important issues that effect people in everyday life and they have no place in fandom spaces. They should not be tolerated in the slightest.
Secondly, silence only allows compliance in these situations and it doesn’t do anything to stop them from happening. Not recognizing these issues in a fandom only gives them room to grow and creates unsafe environments for many individuals. By not talking about them we only allow for them to get worse and more harmful than they already are.
People leave fandoms because of this stuff all the time and I don’t blame them. I’ve seen it happen already with many talented individuals within our own fandom.
We cannot allow for this kind of stuff to be overlooked in our fandom spaces.
Problematic behaviour that’s harming the fandom and the people in it needs to be called out. Otherwise it’s only going to thrive and be considered a normal part of the fandom. Fandom is meant to be a place where we can all escape together and share a common interest. We can’t do that though when a good majority is being harmed by this type of toxic and problematic behaviour.
There is nothing wrong with being critical of the fandom and the actions of those within it. Stop treating everything like it’s just harmless drama and stop harassing people bringing up valid concerns. As a fandom we need to hold others accountable. Otherwise this fandom will only dismantle itself with people leaving hurt by its affects.
#there are a lot of issues in this fandom#and the fact people want to act like none of it is happening is terrible#there’s nothing wrong with being critical of the fandom and the behaviour we see from it#if you think or don’t want to hear me or others calling this stuff out#than unfollow me#because I’ll never stop calling it out or boosting the voices of those doing so

My best advice to young people in fandom
I’ve been in online fandom spaces for 11 years now, and I’ve learned a lot. There is one thing i’ve learned that I’ve never seen anyone else post about.
Young people: keep your mouth shut.
Teens, I know you’re not going to like this, but please just hear me out.
disclaimer: I’ve wanted to make this post for a while, and finally had the time and brain space after finals. This isn’t a subtweet or about anything in particular, so do not assume that it is.
I don’t mean that your opinions aren’t valid, and I don’t mean that you should just stand by and always do nothing. I’m not saying that you aren’t welcome in fandom, or that you shouldn’t make content.
What I mean is, your opinions are developing, you are likely unlearning the racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism that you were raised with. When it comes to posting around those issues, you are best off keeping your mouth shut. Read the posts so that you might learn, but for your own safety, do not add your opinion.
You are far more likely to make a post expressing an ignorant opinion, a problematic opinion, or just a poorly articulated opinion than you are to produce a post that fandom collectively agrees is good.
Your opinions are important. They matter. You absolutely need to keep reading, thinking, and develop your critical thinking skills, but not every thought and opinion you have needs to become a post.
You are going to mess up a lot in your life as you learn. And you will always be learning, and you will always be messing up, because the world changes faster than we can learn.
When you mess up in these ways off-line, you will likely be surrounded by people who care about you, who will call you out on what you did wrong, teach you how to apologize for those actions, and do better in the future.
And it hurts to mess up. To know that you’ve hurt someone you care about because of ignorance? It’s one of the worst feelings in the world. And it’s so hard to know the right way to make amends, or the right way to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Off-line, there are likely people around you to help you take those steps.
Online thought? People do not care about you. They do not care about your age, the fact that you are learning, your wellbeing, anything.
People online will not hesitate to make sure that you pay dearly for any mistakes that you have made. And they are not interested in helping you be better. And they are not interested in helping you apologize. And so your apologizes will be bad, and you will make the situation worse for yourself.
I have seen this happen over, and over again. I have seen people get suicide-baited over small mistakes that are the product of youth and ignorance.
Assume that no one online cares that you are human. Because the majority of people do not care about you.
You are young. You need to have safe spaces to mess things up. Mess things up in your own head, in your diary, with your friends and family. Mess things up in spaces where you know that if you do, it will be okay, and you will be better for it.
Online is not that space. Fandom is not your friend. So for your own well being: keep your mouth shut.
#this might actually be the post that gets me fucking canceled but i don't care#ive seen so many teens in the recent years express bad opinions and have mobs sent after them#this fandom has more than most#kiddos you aren't going to change the world with your post#protect yourself first#at most reblog content that you agree with#but be careful#and don't trust anyone#even your mutuals#assume people online are worse than they appear#and that includes me

Hello! Would you like an ismail season next? I don’t know if I really want it and even though I’m not the biggest mailin fan I would much rather the next 2 mains being ava and mailin so we have a pov of all the cash queens (like skames did) before moving to someone else (I would be really mad if ismail have a season before ava :/)
Hi anon 🛒 I’m going to say this before I answer your question: I am really fond of Ismail, have always been, and I think they could easily turn out to be one of my favorite Skams characters. That said, no, Ismail doesn’t deserve a season before Ava, and in fact Ava’s bullying storyline needs to be resolved from her POV before we even begin entertaining the idea of an anti corona kid season. It’s wild to me that this is even a point of contention in the fandom lmao.
As for Mailin, I also think she should get a season, but I don’t necessarily think she should go before one of the cool kids.
And now to answer some potential responses to this:
1. How could you want a season for Mailin, when she’s so undeveloped?
I also wanted seasons for Vilde and Chris in every remake, until the character block was confirmed and I gave up on that. I think it sucks that we didn’t get a season for every girl in the original girl squad, and that there is only one version who’s given us a season (of sorts) for every girl. I don’t think a POV change to a different squad is necessary for any Skam to work, and I find the recent idea that there needs to be a season from another squad’s POV to be kinda baffling tbh... It was something Skam could get away with because it was a far more experimental and less commercial-driven show than most, if not all, the remakes. Many remakes have shoehorned the girl squad into the Isak season because they don’t want to make their main cast bit players for a season. To be clear, I’m not opposed to a season from a different squad’s POV, I liked that decision in Skam. I just don’t think it’s necessary for the show to work and in fact actively works against the way most Skams teams approach their shows.
2. How could you want a season for Mailin, a straight white girl, over Ismail or Finn or Josh?
Lmao because Skam (and the remakes) are targeted at teenage girls and always have been. They’re not LGBTI shows, they’re not shows about boys of color, the intended audience has always been teenage girls. And while I do think there’s room in Skam (and Druck) for queer and moc seasons (obviously, given Isak’s season and the fact that my favorite Druck character is David), I think the priority should be the main squad.
Also, we don’t know that Mailin is straight.
But even if she was, Nora is also ostensibly a straight white girl, and you’d have to be up to your ears on identity politics to think that her season has no value because she’s a straight white girl.
3. How could you want a season for Mailin, when she’s racist?
Vilde was also racist, and I wanted her season as well. Listen, do I love that Mailin, despite her wokeness, is ignorant and rash and blind to her own privilege? No. Do I think it’s incredibly necessary to explore Mailin’s ignorance, as if we haven’t seen numerous instances of white “feminists” playing the victim when called out by woc? No. But since the character has been introduced and been made part of the main squad, I want her character to be explored, like Eva and Noora got explored 8 times over, despite their characters not being anything new in terms of character archetypes either.
Mailin’s not my priority, Ava is, but I’d find it irritating from a viewer’s perspective for her to be introduced as a main player, and not get her POV.
4. How can you like Ismail and be fine with them getting a season, when they’re a bully who has hurt Ava?
Tbh, if Ismail doesn’t get a season, I’ll be fine with that. I think they can be developed through other characters without getting their own season. And by no means do I cut them slack for the bullying, and it’s one of the main reasons why I’m completely opposed to Ismail getting a season before Ava does.
While sections of fandom absolutely are fetishistic towards Ismail, and sexualize them (I mean lol, how many smut fics are there about this gen, and how many of those fics don’t involve Ismail getting dicked down?), I think we have to remember that the wider world isn’t exactly kind towards gnc amab people, and while fandom loves a good dude they can imagine getting dicked down, the reality for people who look like Ismail is that they face homophobia even if they are straight, transphobia even if they’re cis, and racism even if fandom interprets them as white. (I’m not going to go into a lot of detail with this, but suffice to say that Turkish and German-born Turkish people aren’t seen as white in Germany, and Abdi and Ismail are both people of color in the country they were born and live in.) I think we have to separate people like Tarjei Sandvik Moe and Henrik Holm and Michelangelo Fortuzzi and Axel Auriant and Maxence Danet-Fauvel and Willem 1 and Willem 2, who play gay/bi/pan characters but will not face discrimination in their personal lives, from people like Mustafa Eren Özdilberler and Lukas von Horbatschewsky and Alejandro Reina and Giovanni Niubo, who will get fetishized and sexualized by fandom, but won’t even get the “luxury” of getting treated as a sexy commodity in their personal lives. I’m basically babbling at this point, but suffice to say, fandom’s clear interest in Ismail for their ~white-passing good-dickin’ potential isn’t a good reason for me to exclude them from getting a season, as long as the four cashqueens get one.
Anyway, I forgot to answer the question. Yes, Ismail is doubtlessly a bully who has hurt Ava. And Mailin is seriously testing people’s patience when it comes to Ava, as well. Both have annoying stans who attack Ava in order to defend their favs. But I believe both their stories are worth telling.
Finally, my personal preference if we get 6 seasons out of this cycle would be: Nora, Fatou, Ava in this order, with these last three in any order: Mailin, Ismail, Yara.

What do you think of the people (usually weebs let’s face it) who believe that you can’t criticise Danganronpa because it’s Japanese, and that it’s ‘racist’ to do so? I get that it’s important to take into account that Japanese culture is different from western culture but I actually think it’s more racist and somewhat paternalistic to completely brush off all criticism of Japanese media, especially considering Japan’s history with race, class, women, the LGBTQ community, etc.
That’s probably some of the stupidest discourse i’ve seen from a fandom (and this is coming from someone who’s into homestuck).
Danganronpa is allowed to be criticized, and not put on a pedestal just because its a piece of japanese media. Even great anime/manga/games are criticized, and Danganronpa shouldn’t be excused from criticism, especially because it has problematic/harmful elements within it that absolutely should be called out (homophobia, transphobia, racism, incest fetishization, etc.)
ALSO: while it’s fine to criticize Danganronpa/their characters, you shouldn’t call their characters rats, especially considering almost all of the cast is japanese and that word is considered a slur. I know it’s easy to make fun of characters like Kokichi or Nagito, but you can find a better word to call them that isn’t tied to racism.
#ask#anon#and it isnt like danganronpa doesnt have problems with being racist#look at DAISAKU BANDAI ffs

My Life as an Acafan: it’s complaining time!
Right now, I’m reading the key works of fan studies. I’m reading and selecting works that will bring the type of debates I want to have in my classroom. It’s an exercise any competent teacher does - no matter how long they’ve been teaching. I’m not well versed yet on most things related to fan studies because I’ve started studying it kinda recently, but I’m slowly reading most of things any fan scholars should read and I’ve a couple things to say. Most aimed to non-fan academics.
If any non-fan academic is reading this, I think you should be aware that it is glaringly evident that you have never set a foot on fandom more than necessary and don't understand the core of fandom. You all try, you all make some good points and, somehow, you’re always off the mark. You do not get it.
As a black bisexual woman, I’m going to do an analogy to make it easier to understand. The feeling I have when I read a non-fan academic talking about fandom and fans is almost the same feeling I get when I read a white person or straight/cis person trying to explain racism and homophobia/transphobia. You do not get it and you will never get it because you didn’t go through it and, probably, won’t ever go through it. It’s not your standpoint - and take this standpoint I’m saying here as the same one from standpoint theory. It feels off place and like missing several points about fandom.
Another thing is that non-fan academics come off, not sure if it’s intentional, as people that believe their analysis are impartial or mostly impartial because they are not fans. I’m gonna say this as a historian: there’s no such thing as impartiality. Everyone has a bias, especially if you ‘re studying something. If you commit to do research, and one that ends up being your lifetime work, it’s indisputable you have a bias and it shows. My God, you’ve no idea how much it does show, even if you think you don’t. I can read between the lines and understand most of you think we are akin to cultists - which shows you do not understand fandom at all. The least thing fandom has, as collective, is a behavior of venerating or excessively admiring anything at all. Fandom is a bunch of ruthless critics that even if they swear they love something, they’ll absolutely tear it down at any time and any place without hesitation if they feel like they are entitled to. Nothing is sacred and nothing is safe from criticism or fandom’s cruelty. If you do not know or understand this very basic notion, you truly have no idea what you’re studying or talking about.
Also, I think the terms fan and fandom are used carelessly by some non-fan academics (I’m so close to calling them local academics, just so I have a label to identify them ahahaha). Everyone that has an intense enthusiasm for a particular work is a fan for them and, kinda automatically, are part of fandom. I don’t agree with that notion at all. Those fans are not part of fandom. Fandom is a collective, they are people coming together and interacting and forming relationships. It’s a social thing and I say this as a fandom fan since 2005. Listen, I’ve always been a fan in the sense of getting obsessed with several media works. I mean, by the time I was 10, I knew how to recite every single line and sing every song of The Lion King, The Little Mermaid and Mulan. Does that mean I was part of Disney fandom? Hell no. I just became a fandom fan in 2005 when I became part of the community and started consuming fanworks. Non-fan academics need to start listening to fans, because we set ourselves apart from those people. It’s so disrespectful to us to take our terms and apply them in a way that they are not supposed to be used, especially to explain experiences that are not related to us.
But maybe the problem stems from the name of the field itself. Maybe if it was called Fandom Studies, we would not have this kind of controversy in relation to the use of terms like fan and fandom. After all, Fan Studies implies all kinds of fans and not only the ones that are part of an organized collective. Maybe the solution is to have two fields: Fandom Studies, to deal with the social experience and the individuals that carry out fan practices (like Jenkins pointed out that, when people identify themselves as fans, they are not focused in just one particular work, but rather a range of works and apply sets of practices on them) and Fan Studies, to deal with individual and isolated experiences of being enthusiastic (read having emotional attachment) over mass media works. Like enthusiastic people, they might identify themselves as fans because fan is a common word nowadays, but they do not use the term fandom because, most of time, they don’t even know the word or what it means. So, how can you reduce fandom to any experience of emotional attachment to any kind of media? I mean, if fandom fans so many times differentiate their investment to a particular work by saying ‘I watch this, but I’m not part of the fandom’ i.e. consume/create fan practices in this media; how dare you to take our term and apply to people that don’t even know what it means just because they’re emotionally attached to a piece of mass media work?
If someone does not partake in fan practices (aka content created by fans in an organized community), they’re not part of a fandom. And, when I say partake, I mean consume and/or create, not just one of them. This is fandom 101. This is a problem that I see with non-fan academics, they do not respect what we establish in our community.
Someone who watches a series or movie regularly or just really loves them is not a member of said fandom. It’s not that simple. And, if you think that it’s not like that, I dare you to do just one thing: go to a movie premiere of a big franchise like Marvel and, without proper context, start asking people who seems invested (aka wearing shirts or looking really excited to be there) things like ‘So what is your favorite fandom discourse/meta about this franchise you’re about to watch?’ and then you come back to me and tell me how many people actually knew what fandom is and what meta/discourse means in that context. I’ll bet good money not even half of the people who are wearing t-shirts of said franchise will understand what you’re talking about.
So, being part of fandom means being engaged in particular social practices. That’s how, among ourselves, we differentiate us from the people that just love very much certain mass media works. It’s different. Non-fan academics need to remember they are studying living and breathing subjects who are incredibly analytical, so I think maybe it’s time to take a step back, rethink your attitude and respect the norms dictated by the community you research. I mean, I’ve been part of fandom for 15 years and I haven’t ever seen one single fan defend the idea that people who just love intensely some work of fiction and do nothing more than buy a t-shirt cause it looks cool are part of fandom.
Ever.

THE MEGA RP PLOTTING SHEET / MEME.
First and foremost, recall that no one is perfect, we all had witnessed some plotting once which did not went too well, be it because of us or our partner. So here have this, which may help for future plotting. It’s a lot! Yes, but perhaps give your partners some insight? Anyway BOLD what fully applies, italicize if only somewhat. Long post!
MUN NAME: Pie AGE: +25 CONTACT: IM, Ask, Discord (mutuals only, by request)
CHARACTER(S): Cullen
CURRENT FANDOM(S): Dragon Age
FANDOM(S) YOU HAVE AN AU FOR: I have a modern verse for everything not Dragon Age, but I might add some actual alt verses for other fandoms
MY LANGUAGE(S): English (native), Spanish (intermediate), Korean (baby lol beginner), bits and bobs of other languages (namely French and French Patois)
THEMES I’M INTERESTED IN FOR RP: FANTASY / SCIENCE FICTION / HORROR / WESTERN / ROMANCE / THRILLER / MYSTERY / DYSTOPIA / ADVENTURE / MODERN / EROTIC / CRIME / MYTHOLOGY / CLASSIC / HISTORY / RENAISSANCE / MEDIEVAL / ANCIENT / WAR / FAMILY / POLITICS / RELIGION / SCHOOL / ADULTHOOD / CHILDHOOD / APOCALYPTIC / GODS / SPORT / MUSIC / SCIENCE / FIGHTS / ANGST / SMUT / DRAMA / ETC. (I started this and realised I’d be bolding almost everything, so: EVERYTHING)
PREFERRED THREAD LENGTH: ONE-LINER / 1 PARA / 2 PARA / 3+ PARA / NOVELLA. / ALL
ASKS CAN BE SEND BY: MUTUALS / NON-MUTUALS / PERSONALS / ANONS.
CAN ASKS BE CONTINUED?: YES / NO / OCCASIONALLY - only by Mutuals?: YES / NO
PREFERRED THREAD TYPE: CRACK / CASUAL / SERIOUS / DEEP AS HECK. / ALL
IS REALISM / RESEARCH IMPORTANT FOR YOU IN CERTAIN THEMES?: YES / NO.
ARE YOU ATM OPEN FOR NEW PLOTS?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. (after my paper is submitted, yeah sure)
DO YOU HANDLE YOUR DRAFT / ASK - COUNT WELL?: YES / NO / SOMEWHAT. (irl makes coping difficult sometimes)
HOW LONG DO YOU USUALLY TAKE TO REPLY?: 24H / 1 WEEK / 2 WEEKS / 3+ WEEKS / MONTHS / YEARS. / DEPENDS ON MOOD AND INSPIRATION, AND IF I’M BUSY
I’M OKAY INTERACTING WITH: ORIGINAL CHARACTERS / A RELATIVE OF MY CHARACTER (AN OC) / DUPLICATES / CROSSOVERS / MULTI-MUSES / SELF-INSERTS / PEOPLE WITH NO AU VERSE FOR MY FANDOM / CANON-DIVERGENT PORTRAYALS / AU-VERSIONS.
DO YOU POST MORE IC OR OOC?: IC / OOC. (I strive for more IC over OOC, but my queue does a lot of work too)
ARE YOU SELECTIVE WITH FOLLOWING OTHERS?: YES / NO / DEPENDS.
BEST WAYS TO APPROACH YOU FOR RP/PLOTTING: Talk with me over IM, asks, or Disco. I’m down for almost anything as long as I see it’s feasible.
WHAT EXPECTATIONS DO YOU HOLD TOWARDS YOUR PLOTTING PARTNER: Transparency. If you have an idea, let me know! If you’re stuck, let me know! If you want to start something new or scrap something or whatever...LET ME KNOW! I promise I don’t bite and I understand.
WHEN YOU NOTICE THE PLOTTING IS RATHER ONE-SIDED, WHAT DO YOU DO?: I’m not very good with coming up with plots myself, so I’m typically the weak link when it comes to that. Sorry! But you bet I’ll pull up a plot generator and start throwing things down to see what sticks haha.
HOW DO YOU USUALLY PLOT WITH OTHERS, DO YOU GIVE INPUT OR LEAVE MOST WORK TOWARDS YOUR PARTNER?: I’m all about equal opportunity, so I try not to leave the plotting work to my partner. Let’s negotiate and find something that makes both of us happy. That’s the point after all.
WHEN A PARTNER DROPS THE THREAD, DO YOU WISH TO KNOW?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. - AND WHY?: If you want to drop a thread, I’m completely fine with it. I want to know so that I don’t end up replying to something you have no interest in anymore. Saves both of us the time.
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY LEAD YOU TO DROP A THREAD?: If drafts eat it (as they are wont to do these days) or if I feel it has reached a natural conclusion. I rarely, if ever, drop a thread in the middle. I’ll just let you know I’m going to finish it on my side and allow you a chance to finish on yours if you’d like.
WILL YOU TELL YOUR PARTNER?: YES / NO / DEPENDS.
IS COMMUNICATION IN THE RPC IMPORTANT TO YOU? YES / NO. - AND WHY?: You don’t need to chat with me every minute of every day, but I like knowing the people I’m writing with. Discerning your personality and your approach to your muse gives me a much stronger understanding of how to write with you, and what vibes between us. Plus, it’s easier to remember different people’s boundaries if I talk with them a lot, too.
ARE YOU OKAY WITH ABSOLUTE HONESTY, EVEN IF IT MAY MEANS HEARING SOMETHING NEGATIVE ABOUT YOU AND/OR PORTRAYAL?: I am all for constructive criticism. Even if you think it’s nitpicky, it’s going to be a great help. Good crit allows us grow as writers and as people in general. However, I am not for baseless accusations, childish name-calling, or outright insults under the name of “constructive crit”. Remember the “constructive” part: we need to build each other up.
DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HANDLE SUCH SITUATION IN A MATURE WAY? YES / NO.
WHY DO YOU RP AGAIN, IS THERE A GOAL?: I love a good story. While I don’t agree with everything Cullen does (and no one should, for anyone real or imagined), his story is intriguing. He’s a deeply flawed, deeply broken man. I love to take on a character, toss them in every situation I can think of, and watch them evolve and grow.
WISHLIST, BE IT PLOTS OR SCENARIOS: A real redemption arc, for one. A realistic struggle with substance abuse and recovery. A future of happiness.
THEMES I WON’T EVER RP / EXPLORE: Rape or sexual assault, unless being spoken about as a past event (as I truly believe that Cullen was sexually assaulted at Kinloch along with the other psychological and physical torture he endured). In-game racism is baked in, unfortunately, but it’s not something I seek out to roleplay as a PoC myself. Finally, while I play Cullen as canon-straight, I will not play out homophobia and most definitely not transphobia. If he rejects your muse for hitting on him, it’s not because he’s being homophobic: he’s just not interested. That also doesn’t mean he’ll never be interested; people can and do change, and I ship chemistry overall. He doesn’t hate your muse for their gender, orientation, or sexual preferences. I feel like I really have to spell this out for people who don’t understand. If you feel personally insulted by this somehow, feel free to address me directly, off anon. It’s probably an issue of fuzzy wording that I’m 500% willing to fix and talk about.
WHAT TYPE OF STARTERS DO YOU PREFER / DISLIKE, CAN’T WORK WITH?: I love starters that set the scene and provide plenty to work with, be it in terms of interacting with the environment or with the other person. If your muse shows immediate disinterest in communicating (and I don’t mean argumentative, which is perfectly fine), I am not going to respond. I might politely ask for more if I feel like it’s a salvageable interaction.
WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTERS CATCH YOUR INTEREST THE MOST?: Stoic soldier types, bubbly short girls, and semi-mad scientists.
WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTERS CATCH YOUR INTEREST THE LEAST?: Characters that come across as Mary-Sue / Gary-Stu types. No flaws and barely any room to grow.
WHAT ARE YOUR STRONG ASPECTS AS RP PARTNER?: I'm very easy-going and I have an unearthly level of tolerance for almost everything. I try to provide partners with as much to work with as possible IC, and will pretty much support your very existence OOC. I believe in open communication so you’ll know what’s going on with me and/or our threads. Also, I typically reply within a week or two. Currently I’m tethered to finishing a big paper so I’m not a good example of that right now.
WHAT ARE YOUR WEAK ASPECTS AS RP PARTNER?: I can get overwhelmed by too much which slows my pace down considerably. I’m also a bit distant and do shut down on occasion; that’s usually no fault of my partners, though. Just my brain being a dick.
DO YOU RP SMUT?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. (the closer we are OOC, the easier getting here will be)
DO YOU PREFER TO GO INTO DETAIL?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. (it’s not going to be XXX but it will be descriptive)
ARE YOU OKAY WITH BLACK CURTAIN, FADE TO BLACK?: YES / NO.
WHEN DO YOU RP SMUT? MORE OUT OF FUN OR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?: I prefer to write smut for character development and to mark a progression in a relationship. Plus Cullen is not a “one and done” guy so getting to the smut stage will take a bit of build-up.
ANYTHING YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO RP THERE?: Hmmm things that he personally wouldn’t go for I guess? Honestly I don’t know. And obviously, no rape/animal abuse/predator nonsense.
ARE SHIPS IMPORTANT TO YOU?: YES / NO Ships are a great way to further explore a character and their motivations. People do not exist in pure isolation, so I don’t believe characters should, either.
WOULD YOU SAY YOUR BLOG IS SHIP-FOCUSED?: YES / NO. I bolded both because the focus of the blog isn’t ships, but this thirst trap guy is really easy to ship with other people I tell ya hwat. I am severely picky with romantic ships for Reasons, but I don’t eschew any other types of ships. I encourage them!
DO YOU USE READ MORE?: YES / NO / SOMETIMES WHEN I WRITE LONG STUFF.
ARE YOU: MULTI-SHIP / SINGLE-SHIP / DUAL-SHIP — MULTIVERSE / SINGLEVERSE.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO EXPLORE THE MOST IN YOUR SHIPS?: Characters who challenge Cullen into revising his point of view and force him to be a better person. Also, characters who understand his past and they are in no ways obligated to forgive it, but do recognise that he’s struggling very hard to mend whatever mistakes he can and is willing to pay the price for his decisions.
ARE YOU OKAY WITH PRE-ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS?: YES / NO / DEPENDS. - Be a good salesperson and I might buy it.
► SECTION ABOUT YOUR MUSE.
- WHAT COULD POSSIBLY MAKE YOUR MUSE INTERESTING TOWARDS OTHERS, WHY SHOULD THEY RP WITH THIS PARTICULAR CHARACTER OF YOURS NOW, WHAT POSSIBLE PLOTS DO THEY OFFER?: Cullen is a massive stick in the mud, which means it’s incredibly easy to taunt him and get him flustered all at the same time. He’s loyal, he’s intelligent, and he’s largely self-aware. He likes swords and using them. Anything your character hates about him, he most likely hates about himself 100 times more.
WITH WHAT TYPE OF MUSES DO YOU USUALLY STRUGGLE TO RP WITH?: Those from the start that show absolutely no interest in speaking with/interacting with him. Mun and muse are going to struggle to stick around. I’m not going to fight for attention and neither is he.
WHAT DO THEY DESIRE, WHAT IS THEIR GOAL?: Redemption. He wants to be a better person and make up for the past as much as he can.
WHAT CATCHES THEIR INTEREST FIRST WHEN MEETING SOMEONE NEW?: He can sniff out a fellow Templar a mile away (or several miles, in the case of Samson).
WHAT DO THEY VALUE IN A PERSON?: Honesty, a strong will, devotion (not necessarily to the Maker or the Chantry, but to a just cause that focuses on protecting others).
WHAT THEMES DO THEY LIKE TALKING ABOUT?: War stuff, chess, books, trebuchets, dogs.
WHICH THEMES BORE THEM?: Lectures about anything. He did his time in Azkaban in the Circles. No more. Please no more.
DID THEY EVER WENT THROUGH SOMETHING TRAUMATIC?: His parents died trying to escape the Blight, he was tortured for weeks/months on end by blood mages, almost all of his friends died because of it, he was manipulated and brainwashed by his superior, he was forced into a near-debilitating substance addiction by his workplace... yeah just a few things.
WHAT COULD LEAD TO AN INSTANT KILL?: Darkspawn and abominations.
IS THERE SOMEONE /-THING THEY HATE?: Darkspawn and abominations. Blood mages on principle. Regular mages (but he’s working hard to remedy this extremely bad and prejudiced thinking). Himself.
IS YOUR MUSE EASY TO APPROACH?: YES / NO. - BEST WAY TO APPROACH THEM?: Just be polite and he won’t turn you away. He’s guarded, yes, but not impossible to talk to.
SOMETHING YOU MAY STILL WANT TO POINT OUT ABOUT YOUR MUSE?: You’ll find out by writing together! ;D
CONGRATS!!! You managed it, now tag your mutuals! ♥

millllennia’s frequently asked questions
Last Update: November 19 2021
Who the heck are you?
I’m Mack (though there’s a couple people on here that have called me Milli which I thought was adorable and that is also a perfectly fine thing to call me) I’m a full-time uni student from Canada that’s been writing on here since 2016. I use she/her pronouns usually but like really what is a gender. I used to be fanfiction-trashpile (which is still my user on ao3).
Can I translate your work?
Short answer: no.
Long answer: still no, but it’s more complicated than that. No one has permission to repost or translate my work. Even if you message me and offer to give me credit, I will say no. If you want to create for fandom, you should do it yourself and I will stand by that.
I welcome fanart, podfic, and fanfic of my fics, and I’d love if y’all would message me/send it to me/tag me in it so that I can hype you up!
If you decide to write with my original characters (the Helix universe or Dear Love of Mine) I will ask that you give me credit for the characters, but I don’t mine anyone else writing them. The only canon content created for the Helix universe belongs to myself and vampy ( @vampirewithbedsidemanners) but even we write alternate universes of the Helixverse, so it’s totally okay for other people to do that too.
Why are you so darn specific about the style you write in?
Okay so there are a few things about this that I’m really picky about:
I never use y/n or any other derivatives of the term (y/e/c or the like). For me, it’s much harder to avoid using those kinds of stand-ins for terms, so I like to challenge myself by never ever using them. If the fic calls for the reader’s name to be directly said, I’ll just give the reader a last name (like in dear love of mine where the reader’s last name is Dean)
(NOTE: this is not to say that people that use y/n are taking the easy road or whatever. it’s entirely a personal decision and writers that use it are still good. it’s just not for me)
All my sfw fics are completely body/gender neutral unless otherwise specified
All my nsfw fics are with an afab reader (because I only know my own biology and I’d hate to try to write something for another biology type and end up getting it wrong and just alienating everyone)
I’m specific about these things because I do not look like the skinny/blonde/straight-haired/blue-eyed/wattpad version of a reader in RI fanfic. It alienated me back when I read on that platform and I’d hate to make anyone feel like that. I’m still learning, and I’m not perfect, but I really want people who read my content to feel like they can actually be immersed in the story, no matter what they look like.
That being said, I do not write readers from specific backgrounds/with specific features because I am whiter than white and that’s not my place (though I have reblogged some stuff that has specific readers so there definitely is some on my page! check out the recommended tag)
My own personal tastes obviously affect my writing (because everyone writes from their own experiences) so there is often dancing/hair touching in my fics because I like that stuff. There will be warnings for basically anything that could alienate the reader including but not limited to: hair mentions, the reader getting picked up, the reader’s clothing being mentioned, and abnormal physical activity (dancing, swimming, etc). If you
Are requests open?
Requests for moments, headcanons, one-shots and drabbles are open! please send me headcanons i love hearing what y’all are thinking! with that being said, i reserve the right to not write or respond to requests that i don’t want to do because at the end of the day, this is my space and my writing makes me happy.
What fandoms do you write for?
I am currently writing for:
Star Wars (literally any character including rebels/CW)
James Bond (Craig era)
Dune (I love the books and the film so I write based on both!)
Marvel (including all movies and the Punisher)
But I will generally write for any content I have consumed in the last 2 years (so I'd be super down to write for mortal instruments/shadowhunters, for example, it might just take longer). If you request something I am not currently writing for, I will keep your request until I recirculate that fandom/character/concept because I am basically a garbage disposal for fandom.
Do I need to give you plot details in my requests?
Requests can be as simple as “Fluff with Poe Dameron!!” but can be as complex as you would like. Some formats include:
dialogue prompts (ie. “I missed you” with Jace)
type of fic (ie. I would love some Billy Russo angst)
relationships with canon characters (ie. can you write some reader x kylo ren where the reader is Rey’s sister?)
any amount of plot details (ie. thanksgiving at the Weasley’s where you and Percy get stuck hand washing dishes)
Moments Collection prompt (ie. I read your Poe “The moment they first saw you” fic. Can you write one with Dani from Prodigal son?)
Headcanon prompt (ie. how do you think Poe finding out you’re alive after thinking he had lost you would go?)
Or any combination!! I like writing what you guys want to see and challenging myself with your ideas.
What “out of the box” ideas are you willing to write?
Many writers will not write the following, so I wanted to be clear that anything on this list can be requested and will be written without being altered (assuming it’s in my lane). If any of these things are used in a work, they will be listed in the Warnings category at the top of the post.
graphic descriptions of violence (including but not limited to: injury, torture, emergency surgery)
death (major characters and reader included. I just won’t write drowning for my own personal safety)
homophobia
nightmares/night terrors/forced dream sequence/drug trips/things like in spiderman: far from home before peter gets hit by a train
lemon/smut/that kind of thing (but I’m very new to this so take it easy on me folks)
panic attacks
dubcon/noncon/dark fic
I will also write the following things that are not “warning” related but not all writers will dabble in:
alternate universe (though I usually prefer canon-compliant work)
crossover content
polyamorous relationships
What don't you write?
I absolutely will not write:
suggestive content with underaged characters (I’ll age them up)
the act of self-harm (I will write post-getting clean or talking about self-harm vaguely, but won’t write the action or witnessing the action for my own safety)
drowning/water boarding/violence involving water (I know, very specific, but I don’t write this for my own safety)
readers that deal with transphobia/racism (I am blessed to not have experienced either of these things and it’s absolutely not my place to think I can write about these struggles. I will however reblog content I find and enjoy because it is so important to talk about these things and bring awareness to these communities)
mental illness other than anxiety/depression/ptsd (outside of canon determined elements)
specific pronoun requests. all of my sfw work is gender neutral. the reader insert/imagine space has been historically very heteronormative and I want everyone to be able to enjoy my writing, no matter how they identify and which pronouns they use. if a fic is requested with pronouns, I will still write the request. it will just be gender neutral
real life people. non-negotiable. this makes me feel icky. no judgement to those that do it. I just won’t
abo!AUs. not my jam.
magic AUs.
I hope this clears some stuff up! I’m looking forward to hearing from you guys! my inbox is always open so feel free to come chat!
