“If you get a nose job, then you will be spitting on her legacy. Barbra refused to believe that beauty could only be defined by the blonde, chiseled faces of Hitchcock’s beauties, so she redefined what beauty was and became the biggest female star in the world.

Why is button nose the most common for women in animation? I’ve met maybe three people with that type of nose. Interesting noses are so pretty. But the amount of characters (who are protagonists) in media I like with them could be counted on my hands.
i love characters with prominent noses. the only reason i’ve ever given a character a small nose is to fulfill a diversity quota

If Glee Did Phineas and Ferb Songs, Who Would Sing What?
Note: these would not be all in the same episode, for various reasons, including that in some cases they take place at different times in canon, also Sue would never sing multiple songs per episode. I'm also going to highlight the absolute non-negotiables to me.
Gitchee Gitchee Goo--New Directions, Sam and Mercedes lead (either an end-of-episode performance in the auditorium, or a competition performance)
Busted--Santana and Brittany (there could be context for this, or it could just be for the heck of it. I'm sure you see my vision)
When We Didn't Get Along--Will Schuester (serenading Sue after she gets fired in S6)
Truck Drivin' Girl--Coach Beiste (I have a very specific context in mind for this, and that is a scene that does not take place in the show, where Beiste teaches Emma to parallel park)
Do Nothing Day--Blaine (like Busted, this pick does not strictly require context, but it could have some)
Ain't Got Rhythm--Mike and Finn (I NEED you to see my vision here, because this is a non-negotiable to me. Mike's dancing, Finn's inability to dance, Finn drumming--beautiful)
You're Going Down--Sue (to Will,at any time, really)
Whatcha Doin'--Emma (to Will, early season one)
The Perry The Platypus Theme--Blaine, Sam, Tina, Artie, Brittany (messing around together in S4)
There's A Platypus Controlling Me--Sue, with the New Directions (Sue did not consent to this)
Takin' Care Of Things--Blaine, Sam, Artie and Tina (this song encapsulates Blamartina--my beloveds--perfectly, and I love it)
Carpe Diem--New Directions, led by Finn and Rachel (end-of episode auditorium performance or comp performance)
The Ballad Of Klimpaloon--Puck with The Boys (just one of the rock songs they do just because)
I Believe We Can--Mason and Jane (for fun)
Real Boy--Artie with Quinn, Santana and Brittany (no context. This should have zero plot relevance, but just one of those numbers that Artie and the UHT do for the sake of it)
I'm Me--Santana (no specific context, but much like Busted, it definitely doesn't need it)
Evil For Extra Credit--MS. BECKY JACKSON
Just The Two Of Us--Mercedes (while third-wheeling Klaine. Or Blam)
Quirky Worky Song--The Warblers (random cut scene to the Warblers)
Livin' With Monkeys--Rachel (heartbroken, on stage in the auditorium, gesturing tragically, big facial expressions, peak Rachel Barbra Berry dramatics)
My Evil Buddies And Me--Sue, Terri, Sandy Ryerson, Dustin Goolsby (During the Legion of Doom arc)
Izzy's Got The Frizzies--Unique (no context whatsoever. at all. none.)
Summer All Over The World--New Directions (beginning of episode group number)
Jump Right To It--Tina, Brittany, Sugar, Unique *maybe Kitty* (telling Marley to go for it with Jake)
They Left Me Standing Outside--Artie (literally any time in the series)
Us Against The Universe: OG Five, with the New Directions (final episode, it's beautiful)
If you have any ideas/reactions/thoughts, please rb with your additions, addendums or thoughts

Idk if this has been asked already but what do you think are Quinn and Rachel’s top 5 artists on Spotify or just top 5 favourite singers in general.
Warning: This author is musically stuck in the 70's, 80's, and 90's and does not stream music.
Rachel, being Rachel, is going to keep up with music and new artists in a way that I most definitely do not, and thus, Quinn will be forced to do the same, so both of their top fives are going to change up on occasion as they find new artists and songs.
I feel like one of Rachel’s top five would always be the latest and greatest Broadway musical soundtrack which would drop down the list when the next hit show is released.
And obviously, Barbra Streisand has a permanent place of honor.
She will not willingly admit to anyone that Taylor Swift is constantly sneaking back into her top five but her most played songs list will betray her.
As for Quinn, Rachel Berry will obviously be her number one artist of all time.
I always head-canon that she’s a fan of classic 60's pop and Motown, so I’m gonna say Dusty Springfield pretty much stays on her list.
And in the vein of girl power and being in possession of a tremulous alto and Belinda Carlisle glamour, the Go-Go’s (and Belinda’s solo work) are in her rotation pretty regularly.
(I realize this is only three for each of them, but the other two spots change as their current moods do).

for: @hvneymelons where: fowler's flowers
Fiddling with the playlist blasting over the speakers instead of what he was actually supposed to be doing, Leo had glanced at his watch for the 15th time in the last five seconds. A new shipment of orchids were left neglected, but it felt wrong, being put to work when Barbra Streisand kept crooning about raining on her parade. She had a voice and all, he knew he was insulting one of the greats when they upturned their nose at every song of hers, but it wasn't like he was 80. Or Rachel Berry, god forbid.
The second he started streaming Sabrina Carpenter's new album, the phone rang, and truly, he considered just letting it ring. At one point, he'd actually kept the store phone out of the cradle, before remembering threats of being fired if they pulled a move like that. Apparently, it was 'bad for business'. "Fuuuuck." They droned on, truly dragging out the word and milking their dramatics, even as they pressed the phone to their ear, before attempting to cover it with a rather lame, "Fowler's Flowers, this is -."
Front doorbell chiming, Leo halted mid introduction. Even when the a tinny and confused Hello? crackled through, they still poked their head around the corner, immediately perking up when they saw a shock of familiar red hair. "Gotta go." An astute depart before there was ever a greeting, but there were more important things on his mind. Though they never really cared much about whether they came across as disheveled or not, Leo attempted to brush back the incessant cowlick amongst their bangs before shuffling to the front of the store, pleased grin already on their face. "Y'know, I was just thinking to myself - I am seconds away from dying of boredom. Literally. I could probably use a doctor right now... and then you come in. I'd call that, like, fate or somethin', wouldn't you?"

Good morning, friends, fans and fellow students! No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, I, Rachel Barbra Berry, have returned from my social media hiatus. Many of you maybe wondering why my accounts suddenly went dark (yes that is a reference to Monday’s on Broadway). The reason was simple, this star needed a rest before burning out.
Yes, you read correctly. Between going to school full-time and starring in a Tony-Award winning show, I simply didn’t have a moment to breathe. However, insttad of quitting, I decided to return to where it all began and find my footing before returning to the spotlight.
For those disappointed by the news of my temporary departure from the Great White Way (which should be everyone), please don’t fret. You can still see me perform right here in Lima, Ohio. In fact, I will soon be reprising the role of Maria in West Side Story. Stay tuned for more details

⭐ meet rachel, auditioning with she used to be mine from waitress.
" you might laugh because every time i sign my name i put a gold star after it, but it's a metaphor. and metaphors are important. my gold stars are a metaphor for me being a star. "
📍pinterest. 🎵 playlist.
wait, is that RACHEL BERRY? they kinda look a lot like MAUDE APATOW, don’t they? i heard the TWENTY-ONE year old is known as the OVERACHIEVER around mckinley. it seems like they auditioned to be in NEW DIRECTIONS which is so lame? people at campus have said they’re AMBITIOUS, but don’t be fooled since they’re also NARCISSISTIC. rumor has it, you can find them at DRAMA, DANCE/BALLET, GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCE, & ENVIRONMENT CLUB when they aren’t belting show tunes. their entire vibe revolves around GOLD STARS (IT'S A METAPHOR), THE EUPHORIC FEELING OF CROSSING SOMETHING OFF OF YOUR TO-DO LIST, & A GHOSTLIGHT SHINING ON A DARKENED STAGE but no one pays attention to that here in ohio.
BASICS
full name: rachel barbra berry
pronouns: she/her
hometown: lima, ohio
birthday & sign: december 18 & sagittarius
age: twenty-one
relationship status: single
sexuality: bisexual
occupation: student at mckinley arts college
clubs: drama, ballet/dance, gay-straight alliance, environment club
glee club: new directions
major: drama
HEADCANONS
rachel has always been an overachiever, joining club after club, spearheading group projects to the point where she just does them herself, etc. back in high school she had the excuse that it was to get into a good college. now it's simply a habit that she can't break. if her hand isn't up first in class when the teacher asks a question then something is seriously wrong.
rachel knows she's unpopular and she's very much aware of why (she can be too much for people sometimes and she's very focused on her own future, to the detriment of those around her), but it does weigh on her. she is more insecure than one might imagine and she longs to have some of the college experiences that movies have popularized.
her insecurity does not extend to her talent. she knows that she's too good for small town ohio and it kills her that she's wasting away some of her precious ingenue years, but college show choir is a real way to get attention. and it's important to have the training that a college like mckinley provides on a resume, even if one doesn't actually need it.
rachel likes to be in control of situations. she doesn't drink or consume any mind-altering substances and she gets the proper amount of sleep each night so she's always sharp. she has her routines and she's perfected them. however, if her control of a situation starts to slip, there's no knowing what she'll do.
for example, if she's been threatened by someone else's talent in glee club, the one slushie-free safe haven she's constructed at mckinley, maybe she'd go so far as to send that person to a non-active crack house to get them out of the picture...

Tell us more about “isn’t it strange”!🥰
HI ESP IF I HAVENT TOLD YOU RECENTLY ILY!
Isn't it Strange is like... 13 going on 30 meets it's a wonderful life? I don't know why I'm making that analogy I've never seen It's A Wonderful Life.
But essentially it's a post-season 6 break up fic where Blaine's like "damn this sucks booty. I wish I'd never even met Kurt" and then he wakes up and he's living a life in which he and Kurt have never met because it sounds awkward and painful and I'm just a slut for angst i guess
Here's a snippet!
“Let it be known that I love Rachel Barbra Berry to the ends of this earth, but if I have to wake up to the sound of her gargling salt water at five in the morning as a preventative measure against bronchitis one more time, I might actually poison our water supply with arsenic. Take us both out.” Blaine stops in his tracks, mid-chew, and blinks at Kurt sitting opposite the table.  “But enough about me and my roommate’s inconsiderate hygiene habits, how are things on the Blaine train?” Blaine fights a smile when Kurt winces a little. “I—let’s just—can we pretend I didn’t just say Blaine train?” He waits expectantly for a moment, but Blaine just sighs. “Kurt, you… you don’t have to do this.” Kurt furrows his eyebrows. “Don’t have to do what?” Blaine shakes his head a little, every passing second fueling his embarrassment. He knows exactly what’s happening here, and he isn’t about to let himself confuse Kurt’s inherent kindness with any genuine interest. He said he was closing this road, and he has to stick to that. “You’re a really sweet guy, Kurt, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I don’t want your pity.” “I don’t pity you,” Kurt says evenly, mouth twitching. “I do find you intriguing.” Blaine huffs out a small laugh. Kurt may find him intriguing now, but once he uncovers everything underneath, Blaine knows he won’t like what he sees. He already didn’t.

Glee Musical Retrospective : Don't Rain On My Parade (Sectionals)
youtube
Sung by: Rachel Berry Original Artist(s): from Funny Girl OS
Oh, it's definitely a very special episode, isn't it? Pull up a chair and get comfy because we're talking about Rachel Berry's most iconic number...
Admittedly, I have never seen Funny Girl - but from what I can tell, it's the semi-biographic tale of an awkward, Jewish woman who gets into show business originated by Barbra Streisand. While I hear it hasn't aged well -- I can still see why someone like Rachel Berry would fine inspiration (and aspiration) here.
I wish I had more of a history of Lea Michele and this particular song - I'm sure there's a story there, too. Maybe Kevin and Jenna will shed some light on it (if they haven't already).
Story Analysis
So... let's break down why this song is such a great fit for Rachel...
Don't tell me not to live Just sit and putter Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade
The song starts out as a punchy declaration to other people about how she doesn't want to be idle in her life. And how she won't let them push her into their way of thinking. That's the thing about Rachel - this song has a sharpness about it, she has a goal, she has ambition, and she won't let even the worst circumstances temper her desire to get to where she wants to be.
Don't tell me not to fly I've simply got to If someone takes a spill It's me and not you Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade
Again, it's all tied up in Rachel's ambitions and where she wants to go in her life. She can't /not/ go for her dreams - it's not in her, and the lyrics reflect that accordingly.
I'll march my band out I'll beat my drum And if I'm fanned out Your turn at bat, sir At least I didn't fake it Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it
Rachel's number one fan is Rachel herself - and that drive is going to push her out to at least try with everything she's got. She has to be her own cheerleader, especially since she has so many people telling her she's never going to make it -- for a variety of reasons. And even if she fails, she can at least claim that she gave it her honest best shot.
But whether I'm the rose of sheer perfection A freckle on the nose of life's complexion A cinder on the shiny apple of his eye I gotta fly once I gotta try once Only can die once, right, sir Ooh, life is juicy Juicy, and you see I gotta have my bite, sir
I know that this song is about Fanny Brice wanting to get married. But you can substitute the guy for being on Broadway -- Rachel's dream being the love affair in question here. And again, it's reiteration that Rachel is too ambitious, has too much drive to not try. Her whole self and self worth is wrapped up in her dreams, and she can only owe it to herself to go out and achieve them.
Get ready for me, love, cause I'm a comer I simply gotta march My heart's a drummer Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade
I'm gonna live and live now Get what I want I know how
Okay, so I'm beginning to feel redundant now, but I feel like every line in this song speaks to who Rachel is as a person. And about how she's going to live her best possible life, even if other people don't want her to, even if other people are telling her she shouldn't or can't. She's going to do it anyway.
One roll for the whole shebang One throw, that bell will go clang Eye on the target and wham One shot, one gun shot, and BAM Hey, Mr. Arnstien Here I am!
And, I mean, in true Rachel fashion - this song gets more dramatic as it goes along. It all builds up to that moment where she declares 'here I am' - because she's arrived -- and in this moment, she's arrived in the spotlight on the stage. It's her debut as the star of the show - and here she is - Rachel Berry - in all of her young, optimistic glory.
Technical Thoughts
So... first of all, I think it's somewhat obligatory to say that Lea Michele does really well with this song. She's technically very proficient, and understands the needs of a Broadway song (that sing-speech style; the range and vocal technique, etc, etc). What I really want to comment on, though, is the acting --
There's a difference between any actress singing this song as Fanny Brice in the world of Funny Girl and Rachel Berry singing this as her debut song at a competition as a teenage girl.
The way the song is shot and sung is really quite interesting. First of all there's the curtain open on the first, sharp 'Don't' - which makes it very visually punctuated. The spotlight is on her, and her vocals come out as very strong. (She's also coming out alone - as this is purposely Rachel's moment to shine.) But, if you watch through her initial walking down, she's very nervous, and very uneasy about the performance. It's a nice touch - and one I really didn't notice until closer look, the vocals are so strong, it's easy to miss Rachel's initial apprehension.
And then, of course, Rachel gets into it -- playing it up with the audience as they watch her. This song is hers, and she knows it, and lets the drive of the song drive her performance.
One thing I do like about this song is that Rachel gets to move around a lot -- there's a bit of choreography going on, and she gets to play with her motion as the song goes, giving it a lot of energy. Unfortunately, Rachel solos begin to get bogged down in overemoting messes, so it's nice to see her take charge with such fire.
So - as the performance reaches its climax -- you notice how the camera work gets more frantic as it swirls around her. It's a nice way to add momentum to the song as she yells 'bam'. It also happens again, too, when she's belting 'here I am'. The camera moves in and focuses closely in on her -- because she's arrived at this applauded moment.
Another nice beat to this one is that as she sings 'i'll march my band out' the rest of the glee club comes out. It's a nice visual moment matching up with the lyrics.
I will end by saying - the song has definitely been pre-recorded (obviously), and doesn't have that live sound - but I think they do a really good job covering the moment with such a dramatic performance that, unless you're listening for it, you can't tell.
If you guys want some good, actual vocal technique analysis, I have a couple of links for you:
Hannah Bayles
Songs from a Suitcase
Glee Live
youtube
This is the version done for the 3D movie (um, did it need to be in 3D??). Anyway - this is, more than anything, Lea Michele as Rachel Berry having a flirty, fun time with the audience (and camera). It's less about the specific lyrics and meaning of the song, and more about having fun and showing off her abilities.
Lea Michele as Fanny Brice
youtube
Okay, so I'm including this because, well, I'd be remiss not to - but also because it shows the difference between playing the song as it is in context -- as Fanny Brice as opposed to Rachel Berry singing it for her debut competition number, or even Lea Michele doing it for funsies. The song, in context, is much calmer - and more reflective of the actual conflict going on in the character's life.
I think, also interestingly, since Lea's older now -- her voice has hit it's full maturity. There's a depth to it that she didn't have it before. Part of it is the context and location, but it is a deeper and fuller sound than when she sang it as Rachel.
vs. The Studio Version : I mean, other than that the vocals to instrument/accompaniment ratio is better mixed and that they take out all the TV performance extra noise of the crowd, etc, it's pretty much the same.
vs. The Original Version : So, weirdly, I had never heard the Barbra Streisand version before Glee - and here it is! This is the movie version, which allow sit to be a bit more intimate than when it's sung on a stage. Of course, Barbra is, like, flawless. But it's kind of fun listening to how this is just interpreted so differently. Of course - it's her as Fanny Brice, and again, in a movie not the stage. But I think just goes to show that music can be written out the exact same way but have so many different types of interpretations.
