Baker Mayfield's time has come for Cleveland Browns -- Terry Pluto
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- For the Browns, there's no turning back. They have to begin to build for the present and the future with Baker Mayfield. That was the biggest message from the Browns game against the New York Jets Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Yes, even bigger than the 21-17 victory, the first for the Browns since December 24, 2016. It's far too early to know exactly how good Mayfield will be for the Browns...and for how long. But it's time to find out. The rookie quarterback entered his first regular season game late in the second quarter. Starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor had a miserable evening taking several bad shots and finally leaving the field with what later was diagnosed as a concussion. Mayfield hit 3-of-4 passes during his first regular season drive. He covered 47 yards and set up a field goal. At that point, most Browns fans knew -- it makes no sense wait any longer for Mayfield. WHAT A NIGHT! He is not the usual rookie quarterback wearing an orange helmet. And this was not the usual Browns game .. it was a come-from-behind victory led by a rookie quarterback in his first game. Now that's something to talk about over the 10 days before the Browns play in Oakland. General Manager John Dorsey saw Mayfield play in person six times last season. By November, Dorsey was "90 percent sold" on Mayfield being the top quarterback in the draft. This was before Dorsey was hired by the Browns. He'd been fired by Kansas City and was scouting on his own -- preparing for his next job. Dorsey also was aware the Browns were interested in him -- and the top priority was finding a quarterback in the draft. This Thursday night victory was an early return for the new general manager with his most important decision with the Browns. CHANGING PLANS Dorsey also wanted to take the careful, patient road. So he brought in Taylor to start while Mayfield could learn. But circumstances changed that plan. A Taylor concussion led to Mayfield on the field in a nationally televised game against the Jets. He was ready. Mayfield brought poise, confidence and fire into the game. He also has a strong, accurate arm. It's obvious the rookie from Oklahoma has been preparing for this moment. He was in command of the offense and had a good idea what he could do against the Jets. Mayfield is a rookie. He will make mistakes. He held on to the ball too long on one play. He was hit, fumbled...but Browns guard Joel Bitonio recovered the ball. He also nearly threw an interception in the end zone, the ball dropped by a Jets defender. But overall, it was an enticing debut. The contrast between Mayfield and Sam Darnold was revealing. Darnold was starting his third game with the Jets. Most draft experts believed he was the better choice for the Browns. Dorsey had a far higher grade on Mayfield than Darnold. The Gregg Williams defense made life rough for Darnold. But the USC rookie also seemed to bolt from the pocket very early. Darnold was 15-of-31 for 169 yards and two interceptions. He was sacked twice. FUN TO COME Meanwhile, most of Mayfield's passes were decisive and on-target. He developed an immediate chemistry with Jarvis Landry, who also made some superb catches. If you're a Browns fan, the Mayfield-Landry combination will be so much fun to watch this season. Landry caught eight passes for 103 yards. He also threw a pass to Mayfield on a deceptive 2-point conversion. The Browns were behind, 14-0, when Mayfield entered the game...at that point, the game began for the Browns. Mayfield stayed in the pocket. He seemed to know where his first, second and third options were when it came to throwing the ball. He has memorized the playbook like a veteran. By the time Carlos Hyde scored on a 1-yard run to give the Browns a 21-17 lead with 2:04 left in the game, Mayfield had completed 17-of-23 passes for 201 yards...and no turnovers. Hyde also thrived with Mayfield. The running back from Ohio State bulled his way to 98 yards on 23 carries. As the game ended, some Browns fans walked out of FirstEnergy Stadium chanting...BAKER MAYFIELD...BAKER MAYFIELD. It has been a long, long time since a Browns quarterback had this type of a debut. Cleveland Browns Win A Game For First Time Since Obama Presidenc
The Cleveland Browns made a rare visit to the win column Thursday night, ending a streak of frustration and futility by beating another NFL team for the first time since Christmas Eve 2016. The win set off celebrations – including a promotion campaign that had offered free beer if the team won a game in 2018. The Browns beat the New York Jets, 21-17, bringing their record to .500. Three games into the 2018 season, the Browns are 1-1, with one tie. "We WON!!!" the Cleveland Police Department tweeted last night, before adding, "Wait....Oh God. The free beer thing...Ok Cleveland. Stay calm. GO BROWNS!!!" The free beer came in the form of Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch had promised to give Browns fans a cold beer if their team could win a game, installing orange "victory fridges" refrigerators in bars in Cleveland and surrounding areas that were synced to unlock in the event of a Browns win. Others celebrating the win included Ohio native LeBron James, who tweeted, "Congratulations @Browns!!!!!" The win was accompanied by another unusual sight, as a fan decked out in orange and white managed to catch a opossum at Cleveland's FirstEnergy Stadium. The man gingerly — but confidently, we must add — held the opossum by its tail as a stadium worker came to help, and fans cheered as the animal was lowered into a cardboard box. The team later said of the game's unsolicited mascot, "Shout out to this guy ... #RallyPossum." A lot had happened in the 635 days leading up to last night — but a Cleveland win was not one of them. Along the way, there were agonizing near-misses, including a mind-numbing 12-9 overtime loss at home to the Tennessee Titans, in which Browns' stalwart left tackle Joe Thomas suffered an injury that effectively ended his NFL career. "This crowd deserved to see that first win at home," said rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield, who entered the game after starter Tyrod Taylor was injured late in the second quarter. "That's the thing I'm most proud of is we put it together for the fans at home." Mayfield hadn't practiced with the No. 1 starters this week, and he came into the game with his team down by two touchdowns. When asked how he was able to perform at a high level – completing 17 of 23 passes – he said the daunting circumstances were nothing new. "As corny as it sounds, it's kind of how my whole life's gone," Mayfield said. "I've had a backup role and had to fight through some things and always had to be mentally ready, and ready to go." Led by Mayfield, the Browns got a field goal just before halftime and outscored the Jets in the second half, 18-3. The crowd had roared as he entered the game, a No. 1 draft pick and Heisman Trophy winner whom the fans have seen as the latest hope for a winning team. Mayfield's highlight reel for the game included catching a pass on a two-point conversion. In that play, the quarterback lined up outside the pocket as the Browns ran a reverse. Mayfield ran wide to the end zone, turned — and gathered in a pass from Jarvis Landry. For now, Browns fans can walk around being proud of this win, which its defense sealed with a pair of interceptions in the game's closing minutes. Those plays ended the Jets' chances and set off pandemonium in and outside of the stadium. "I felt the energy, it was an unbelievable feeling," Mayfield said of the fans' reactions during a game that gave them, finally, something to cheer about. NFL fans are notorious for dreaming big early in the season — a two-game streak in either direction can spark talk of either going to the Super Bowl or of firing an entire team. After Thursday's win, Mayfield said that if the Browns can emerge from the first four games with a winning record and stay focused, "you can come out and you can have a home playoff game." He later clarified, "That's the goal" For Browns fans who have sustained their passion despite not seeing their team win their division in almost 30 years, a home playoff game would likely be even more welcome than a free beer.

Here’s a look at the PlayStation Classic next to its 1994 inspiration
Sony announced the PlayStation Classic early this morning. Given the success of the NES and SNES Classic Editions, a micro console for the first PlayStation is a smart decision that will give Sony a way to make big profits off of its older library. Plug-and-play machines are a growing business, with sales of micro consoles increasing 400 percent year-over-over in 2018, according to The NPD Group. See how the PlayStation Classic measures up to the original PlayStation The mini PS1 makes a cameo at Tokyo Game Show
The PlayStation Classic, the miniaturized console modeled after the original PlayStation that Sony Interactive Entertainment announced earlier this week, made an appearance at Tokyo Game Show this week. While the console isn’t playable on the show floor, Sony has it set up (behind glass) next to an original PlayStation so attendees can get a sense of how wee the PS Classic is. According to Sony’s official announcement, the PlayStation Classic is 45 percent smaller than the company’s original console. And like the mini consoles released by Nintendo, the console hardware itself is rivaled in size by the controllers (which look identical to the original PlayStation controllers). Here’s a look at the PlayStation Classic next to its 1994 inspiration:
youtube
The PlayStation Classic will be released worldwide on Dec. 3. It will come with 20 pre-loaded games, including Final Fantasy 7, Jumping Flash, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms. The retro console will retail for $99.99 in the U.S., £89.99 in the U.K., €99.99 in Europe and 9,980 yen in Japan. Here's where you can preorder the PlayStation Classic right now Have you been missing the original PlayStation, with its top-loading disk drive and pale grey exterior? You're in luck. This year's newest retro gaming comeback, the PlayStation Classic, is available to preorder now. The console will officially be released on December 3, just in time for the holidays. But if you're hoping to give one as a gift, you should start shopping now. Especially since they are already selling on eBay for well over the retail price of $99 (£90, AU$150). Pre-order your own at:
The PlayStation Classic looks just like the original 1994 PlayStation, except 45 percent smaller. The console includes two replica original controllers and comes preloaded with 20 classic games, including Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash and Ridge Racer Type 4, with more games to come, according to Sony. Sony says it'll provide more details about the console close to its launch, but if you're at all interested, it's probably worth putting your order in now before it sells out. PlayStation Classic follows Nintendo's two retro console releases -- the NES Classic and SNES Classic. Both of them were huge hits for Nintendo, and Sony is hoping to capture the same nostalgia with the PS Classic. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is finally coming to the PS4. At least, according to this leak.
PlayStation Classic Mini Console Coming in December It looks like Nintendo is about to have some competition in the nostalgic mini console market. Sony introduced the PlayStation Classic on the PlayStation Blog on Wednesday, a miniaturized version of the home system it first launched in 1995. Like Nintendo’s mini consoles, the PlayStation Classic comes with 20 pre-loaded games, including “Final Fantasy VII,” “Jumping Flash,” “Ridge Racer Type 4,” “Tekken 3,” and “Wild Arms.” All of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original format. Sony said it will reveal the full lineup in coming months. The mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original, Sony said, and it has similar controllers and packaging. Each unit comes with an HDMI cable, a USB cable, and two controllers. The AC adaptor is sold separately, though, which is a bit odd. The original PlayStation, along with competitors like the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Saturn, gave people the chance to play games with real-time 3D graphics in their homes for the first time. It was the biggest-selling console of its hardware generation. It reportedly sold over two million units in Japan in its first six months on the market. In the U.S., it sold around 800,000 in the first four months. It was also the first console in history to ship 100 million units worldwide. The PlayStation Classic comes out on Dec. 3 — the same day it launched in Japan almost 25 years ago. It’s available for pre-order now at select retailers in the U.S. and Canada and costs $100 USD/$130 CAN. The PlayStation Classic needs these 15 games
But these devices are only as good as their library of games. We already know that the PlayStation Classic will come with 20 titles, including Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms. That’s a good start, but that leaves space for 15 more games. What follows is a combination of predictions and a wish list. These are all games that I would love to have on the device, but they’re also ones that make sense because of their quality and variety. Also, the PlayStation Classic is coming with two controllers, but these are the original PlayStation controllers. They don’t have control sticks, so later PlayStation games that depended them are out (sorry, Ape Escape). I’m also going to avoid overloading the list with too many games of a single franchise or genre. I love Final Fantasy IX, but Final Fantasy VII is already taking up a valuable spot on the roster. And that role-playing game does a good job of representing the series on its own. Also, while I love Japanese RPGs (and the PlayStation had a ton of fantastic ones), I can’t just turn this micro console into some kind of JRPG machine. Even with just five announced games, it already has two. Lastly, I’m going to avoid most licensed games. These are harder and more expensive to get the rights to, so they’re less likely to show up. Metal Gear Solid My favorite game for the system. Metal Gear Solid was revolutionary for using extensive voice acting and cutscenes (and, sure, a lot of codec calls) to create a narrative experience that rivaled a Hollywood production. Its stealth-based action makes for tense and exciting moments, and it still has many of the most memorable boss battles ever. Jet Moto What the heck ever happened to Jet Moto? This hover bike racing series was a mainstay on the PlayStation, producing three installments. We may never get a new Jet Moto, but the PlayStation Classic gives the franchise a chance to make something of a return. Tomb Raider Now that we’re at the end of Tomb Raider’s reboot trilogy, this is a great time to go back to its beginning. The original Tomb Raider focuses more on platforming and puzzle-solving than combat. It was a huge hit that spawned a franchise that’s still going today. It needs a presence on the PlayStation Classic. Gran Turismo 2 Gran Turismo an important franchise for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Instead of featuring arcade-like racing, it focuses on realism. Gran Turismo 2 has more cars than the original, so it makes sense to include it instead. Crash Bandicoot What would a PlayStation Classic be without Crash Bandicoot? During the original console’s life, Crash served as the brand’s mascot. He would eventually go multiplatform, but anyone who owned a PlayStation still associates Crash with the console.
youtube
Resident Evil Resident Evil is another innovative game from the PlayStation’s early years. It helped popularize the survival horror genre. Although much of the game is now cheesy instead of scary, it’s still fun and fascinating to see the birth of this franchise. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night PlayStation wasn’t all 3D games. Symphony of the Night took inspiration from nonlinear 2D games like Super Metroid while also adding RPG mechanics. We now call these kinds of games Metroidvanias, and Symphony of the Night is still one of the best of them. The Legend of Dragoon We can use at least one more JRPG, and The Legend of Dragoon is a good fit. You can make arguments for a lot of other games, but most of them have had sequels or remasters. The Legend of Dragoon is a standalone game that isn’t easy to play unless you still have the original. Battle Arena Toshinden Tekken 3 is already on the PlayStation Classic, and it’s a better fighting game than Battle Arena Toshinden. But Battle Arena Toshinden is the more nostalgic choice. It was a launch game for the system, and it gave a lot of people their first taste of 3D fighting at home.
youtube
PaRappa the Rapper PaRappa the Rapper helped popularize rhythm games, but the original still has a lot of charm. It even holds up well visually thanks to its paper cutout-inspired visuals. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater I remember how shocked I was when I found out I loved Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. While I have no interest in extreme sports, its combo and trick systems, along with creative levels and catchy soundtrack, make it one of the most entertaining PlayStation experiences. I’d be happy with either the first or second Pro Skater being on the PlayStation Classic, but the original is edging out just for nostalgia’s sake. Twisted Metal 2 Speaking of genres you don’t see much of anymore, car combat games became a thing thanks to Twisted Metal and its over-the-top (and extremely satisfying) violence. In this case, I’d much rather have the sequel, as it had more characters and better levels. Wipeout 2097 We’re getting close to having too many racing games, but Wipeout is such a staple from the original PlayStation that it feels wrong to exclude it. Besides, it’s neon-filled futuristic take on racing sets it apart from the others. Klonoa: Door to Phantomile Here’s one more side-scroller that should make the list. Unlike Symphony of the Night, Klonoa did not have a beloved brand to fall back on. But Door to Phantomile is a cute, colorful, and engaging platformer that deserves more recognition. Einhänder This is on here partially because my editor would kill me if I left it off. But Einhänder is a great side-scroller shooter (or shmup, if you speak the Queen’s English. It also fills a niche that no other game on the list serves. Read More: http://www.rtgworld.com/2018/09/sony-announced-playstation-classic.html

Why does the dog keep licking the deck?
Older dog has started licking a composite deck. It could be a symptom of a medical issue, a habit or a sign of anxiety.
Your dog’s floor licking could indicate a physical issue or a psychological one. Your first step is to take the dog to the vet for a check-up. Floor licking can be caused, as your husband suggests, from a lack of nutrients that the dog craves. I doubt she’s getting what she needs from the deck, but she’ll keep trying. Talk with your vet to see if you are giving her a nutritionally balanced diet. Those needs can change as a dog ages, so you might need to switch foods or add in a supplement. That should stop the floor licking. Licking floors also can be a symptom of illness, including Cushing’s disease, which involves the adrenal gland, liver disease or a neurological disorder. That’s why it’s important to see a vet. If your dog is getting all the nutrients she needs and receives a clean bill of health, then you can consider whether it’s become a habit. Your dog might once have found something tasty on the deck, so now she keeps licking it in hopes of finding it again.
Dogs also can develop obsessive habits, so the floor licking might indicate boredom or lack of stimulation. You might need to play with her more or get her challenging toys.
Obsessive licking can also be a sign of stress, anxiety and nervousness. As this is a relatively new behavior, you should consider whether anything has changed in your dog’s life or within the household that might be triggering the behavior. According to information posted with the video, “CalTIP was introduced in California in 1981 in order to give Californians an opportunity to help protect the state’s fish and wildlife resources. The toll free telephone number operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You do not have to give your name.” I was recently given this by staff at our local wildlife rehabilitation organization in Fremont, Ohlone Humane Society. Many different things can be reported using CalTIP.  Your other readers may also be interested.
Thank you for helping animals (Dogs)
What a wonderful suggestion. I often tell people to contact Fish and Wildlife, and this is an easy way of doing it. Some people will appreciate being able to do it anonymously. As a follow-up, the authorities were contacted in the case of the woman who jailed the birds as punishment for killing some young finches, and the birds were freed. They seem to have survived their ordeal. Read More: http://www.rtgworld.com/2018/09/why-does-the-dog-keep-licking-the-deck.html

White House Communications Director Hope Hicks resigns
RTGWORLD — Hope Hicks, the White House communications director, told House investigators on Tuesday that her work for President Trump, who has a reputation for exaggerations and outright falsehoods, had occasionally required her to tell white lies.
Hope Hicks Acknowledges She Sometimes Tells White Lies for Trump
But after extended consultation with her lawyers, she insisted that she had not lied about matters material to the investigations into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible links to Trump associates, according to three people familiar with her testimony. The exchange came during more than eight hours of private testimony before the House Intelligence Committee. Ms. Hicks declined to answer similar questions about other figures from the Trump campaign or the White House.
Hope Hicks Leaves - It's A Really Hard Job Communicating When Your Boss Lies
Must be hard to be a stand-up communications director in that environment. Lot of pressure. Must put you in a continual bind. Ah, this whole topic just becomes downright depressing. 2,000 false or misleading claims over 355 days. You can call President Trump's tortuous relationship with the truth anything you want. You can call it alternative facts, white lies, exaggerating, spinning, prevaricating, putting your best foot forward, stretching the truth, being a super salesman.
Hope Hicks' totally ridiculous explanation for why she quit
"She told colleagues that she had accomplished what she felt she could with a job that made her one of the most powerful people in Washington, and that there would never be a perfect moment to leave."
Little white lies could be a very big problem for Hope Hicks
She did not answer questions about her time at the White House, joining former President Donald Trump aide Steve Bannon in claiming those communications are privileged. And she was reticent at first to discuss the transition period. It's not exactly clear when the white lies may have occurred. Hicks argued she hasn't had to lie about substantive issues for Trump, according to the source with knowledge of her Tuesday comments that spoke to RTGWORLD's Manu Raju and Jeremy Herb. That the White House communications director should have to lie on behalf of her boss, who is a serial boaster, stretcher of the truth and documented outright fibber, should not be surprising. That she would admit to even the smallest fib in the context of testimony about Russian election meddling is something else entirely. Even a white lie implies intentional misleading. While Hicks' testimony was not before special counsel Robert Mueller, he is unlikely to take very kindly to lies, even those of the white variety. Lying to the FBI - if that's what happened here - is no joke.
I wish the president the very best': Hope Hicks steps down
Hope Hicks, the White House communications director and longtime aide to Donald Trump, has expressed her gratitude to the president after announcing her resignation. The White House confirmed news of Hicks’ departure on Wednesday, one day after she testified before the House intelligence committee for nine hours as part of the panel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Who is Hope Hicks?
Hicks took over the post after Anthony Scaramucci was fired 10 days into the job in July 2017. She testified on Tuesday before the House Intelligence Committee on her role in President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and her knowledge of possible connections to Russia. She reportedly admitted in her testimony to telling “white lies” in her capacity. It was unclear when she did so or what the substance of the lies was. “There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to President Trump,” she said in a statement. “I wish the President and his administration the very best as he continues to lead our country.”

South African lions eat 'poacher', leaving just his head
A suspected big cat poacher has been eaten by lions near the Kruger National Park in South Africa, police say. The animals left little behind, but some body parts were found over the weekend at a game park near Hoedspruit. "It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions," Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe told AFP. "They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains." Police have not yet established the victim's identity. A loaded hunting rifle and ammunition were found next to the body, South African website Eyewitness News reports. Lion poaching has been on the rise in Limpopo province in recent years. When is hunting not poaching? Runaway South African lions killed Croat shot dead on South Africa lion hunt The big cats' body parts are sometimes used in traditional medicine, both within Africa and beyond. Wildlife charity the Born Free Foundation says lion bones and other body parts are increasingly sought-after in South East Asia, where they are sometimes used as a substitute for tiger bones. In January 2017, three male lions were found poisoned in Limpopo with their paws and heads cut off. Read More: http://ift.tt/2GatXXG
