I HATE Pushpa (the character)
Pushpa is a movie that was released during the pandemic and became a massive hit. Even Bollywood stars commented on the movie. The songs were memorable and the song Sooseki got around 100 million views even though the second movie hadn't released yet.
It seems South indian Cinema is getting more appreciated with films like Bhaubali, RRR and KGF Chapter 1/2 and Devara might even gain more attention due to Jr. Ntr's presence. (Which I'm super excited about I loved him ever since I was young, him and Ram charan were one of my favorites so RRR was a pleasant surprise)
I'm just disappointed that Pushpa's story is the one thats getting this attention.
Pushpa has good BGM, the setting is cool and cinematography can be considered good and Allu Arjun is always appreciated but the story is where it lacks.
Can I understand it? Yes, I've been watching TollyWood movies ever since I was 1. I was singing Gabbar Singh songs when I was a toddler. I understand what logic Tollywood tries portraying is it always right? No but its enjoyable and times were different we're evolving we want more complex and meaningful stories now Bahubali and RRR gaining attraction are examples that South Indian movie industry is evolving finally!
So imagine my disappointment when I see Pushpa the next great Tollywood film.
"Pushpa Raj is a self respecting young man who takes pride in his work. He works at a mill, but leaves it when his owner doesn't like his attitude outside of work. Pushpa goes for Red sandal wood cutting in the forest. Pushpa lives in a village with his mother Parvatamma, and is the illegitimate son of a local rich man." That is the story according to imbd.
You'd think the movie gives more context about Pushpa nope. IMBD really summed it all up and thats the problem. Pushpa's character can be summed up in a few words and there's not depth beyond those words in the movie itself.
The thing that makes this film detestable is the main character Pushpa he is not enjoyable whatsoever. It's like one of those Dark Romance ML's but they tried mixing in a few funny liners and tried making him a sunshine character as well but failed?
He's not funny I feel bad for his sidekick Kesava actually no. I like Kesava better than Pushpa Himself. He looks like he has actually meaning and depth he has relatable goals and is actually funny or seems to have some sort of personality. I wholeheartedly ship him and Srivalli's friend actually go Side characters!
Now lets compare 2 films Maari 2 and Pushpa which might seem random but let me explain
Maari in both the first one and the sequel was a gangster however do you know why i like him better than Pushpa? He has redeeming qualities he has morals like he kills bad people but doesn't want to sell drugs because he knows that can make innocent people succumb to horrible diseases like his best friend their situations are very different however Maari is seen as a morally gray character just like Pushpa is portrayed as. Maari also has morals when he kills beeja's brother for attempting to assault Anandhi's sister. He's doing something 'bad' killing a person but he essentially redeems it because of why he does it. He also gives good advice when she talks about no one wanting to marry her because she's ruined maari says she isn't an object to be ruined and its not wrong to wait how long to find a guy that understands that.
He's a troubled guy with not normal values but I can sympathize with him and actually root for him because he's a good person.
A more accurate example KGF Rocky is on a very similar path to Pushpa he only relied on his mother his whole life until she died while in Pushpa his mother and himself suffered humiliation. Pushpa was often beat up Rocky was also beat probably even more. They both started at the streets and slowly climbed up wanting money and power. Pushpa only smuggled and framed and fought. Rocky outright killed but I still like him better than Pushpa do you know why?
Because he has character Rocky's backstory is more compelling wanting to fulfill his dying mother's wishes of not wanting her son to die miserably without money like her even if it meant becoming a bad person? Hell yeah. Also similar to maari he has limits he has certain morals, clear cut morals. in the first KGF movie he outright stops traffic for a mother and her son who wanted to get some food but were unable to because of the traffic and gave her hard advice. That the world isn't gonna stop for you its harsh and not lenient and that we need to MAKE it stop. We have to put in the work and not just hope someone will always come along. This gives us insight into his views further developing his character.
Pushpa's story is he was an outcast because he was an illegitimate son and was unable to have his father's last name? So he makes his name Pushpa Raj. He disrespects his mother at times despite her being the only one there for him. He has too much Pride. He doesn't have much regard for women as we see when he gives his shirt to Jaali's victim he isn't sympathetic to her at all and is kinda indifferent except for looking away as if he's uncomfortable more than regarding her own feelings
And the thing is all of these problems could be fixed if we saw more into his character which we're only given bits and pieces of.
Pushpa isn't close to his mother? Maybe its because he blames her for all the prejudice but still cares for her somewhere in his heart which is seen through the light interactions between the two in the movie. He has too much Pride? well he feels like thats his right because he was denied everything else his father's name, money, and even necklace. He doesn't have regard for women much? Even that can be fixed like in the movie 'temper' where Jr Ntr's character first doesn't care much for other women ends up willing to give his life for them he gets character development. Pushpa could not really see a big deal in Jaali's activities until he's confronted with one of the victims himself and is reminded of the women in his life and starts to detest Jalli which ultimately bursts when Jaali sets his eyes on Srivalli.
Everything I said you can mostly think about happening in the movie but its like a real stretch you have to really put your mind on it to see it happening in the canon of the Pushpa universe its nots showed to us the viewers like in other movies we don't get clear cut shots of these narratives I spoke up being played out. Its what makes these movies lively or entertaining in my opinion because they had depth which is enhanced due to the main character himself.
So see this from my perspective a MAN is able to outsmart the police and insult them, illegally get sandal wood, Act like and arrogant bastard through most of this move, have so much intelligence out of nowhere and still gets a girl?
Reena has more personality than Srivalli I'm actually gonna begin stanning her after this.
And when I say a MAN I mean a MAN because the person Pushpa on my screen is a stranger to me I don't get a clear feel of his character or any connection to him.
I really hope these issues are rectified in the second movie but I have my doubts. Pushpa as a movie feels like a regression for Tollywood and I don't want that for my cinema industry which I know has flaws but I also know that its healing and has really good stories.
Anyways to all Indian movie lovers out hope you're excited for Devara because I sure am. Jr. Ntr in double roles? Its like Adhurs all over again. And one of his roles seems really cute too, I've wanted to see Jr Ntr in action again for a long time.
But thats all for now
Yours truly
Roselle🪷

As I loved RRR, I've been watching more Tallywood films, in specific with Ram Charan and Tarak as main stars. Unfortunately not together, as their only movie together is RRR when seriously, they have the power and chemistry to be India's Terence Hill and Bud Spencer (To the fetuses in the audience, they were a pair of actors who made a ton of Buddy movies together, where something happened at the beginning that made them have to solve the problem by hitting everyone who got in their way. My personal favorite is Look out, we're mad. The extra twist was that Bud, the fat, hairy one, was usually the level headed one, and Terence, the blonde, blue eyed, traditionally handsome, was chaos in a bottle)
ANYWAY, I've watched so far Magadheera (Adorable romance, Ram Charan does a double role as Harsha, a biker, and Kala Bhairava, his reincarnation), Yamadonga (Funny as hell, where Tarak plays Raja, a thief who falls in love, but also ends up in hell where he steals the God of the Dead's power before getting sent back to earth), Rangashtalam (which I can't describe without spoilers but has one hell of a twist and also portrays a side of India that is not seen in Hollywood movies without being racist, and ALSO has amazing deaf representation in the shape of the lead play by Charan, without being disability porn), and finally, Jai Lava Kusa (A rollercoaster of emotions where Tarak plays not one, but THREE roles and each of them is wonderful)
Each of their roles is so different from Ram and Bheem, you can tell how amazing actors they are even if some cultural references go past you.
That said, Lava Kumar, from Jai Lava Kusa, is SO, SO gullible, that I am almost sure he's single handedly keeping Nigeria's economy afloat. On the other hand, Chitti Babu from Rangashtalam has my award for most human looking chicken, winning over Chickity Boo by a landslide.

Pushpa 2: How South Stars Are Becoming The NEW FACE of Indian Cinema - 6th Dec 2024
In this episode, we will explore why Bollywood, once the king of Indian cinema, is losing its grip on audiences, especially in North India, and how South Indian films are taking over. We highlighted how South Indian stars like Allu Arjun and RRR’s Ram Charan are cementing their fanbase in the North, with Allu Arjun's visit to Patna and Ram Charan’s arrival in Lucknow reflecting the growing pan-India appeal of South Indian cinema. As Bollywood struggles to evolve, South cinema continues to bridge the cultural divide, creating a new wave of mass entertainment that resonates with Indian audiences everywhere.
This episode breaks down how and why this seismic shift is happening.

The 2023 class is 40% women. 34% belong to underrepresented ethnic/racial communities and 52% hail from 51 countries and territories outside the United States. There are many recent Oscar nominees among the invitees, such as Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”), Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”). The list also includes many of the 95th ceremony’s winners, such as Ke Huy Quan (supporting actor for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”) cinematographer James Friend (“All Quiet on the Western Front”) and composer and songwriter M.M. Keeravani and Chandrabose (“Naatu Naatu” from “RRR”). Even the dynamic “RRR” lead acting duo of Ram Charan and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. have also been extended invitations, along with the film’s production designer Sabu Cyril and cinematographer K.K. Senthil Kumar.
Even “Swifties” were upset that Swift was double snubbed at last year’s nominations — for original song (“Carolina”) and live action short (“All Too Well: The Short Film”) — however, they can rest assured, seeing her join the ranks of the music branch as she continues her global tour, and has her feature directorial debut in the works.
Also invited are a slew of global artists, artisans and talents such as actors Zar Amir-Ebrahimi (“Holy Spider” and recent Variety breakthrough talent recipient) Raúl Castillo (“The Inspection”) and Rosa Salazar (“Alita: Battle Angel”), director Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”), screenwriters Kazuo Ishiguro (“Living”) and Charlotte Wells (“Aftersun”) and marketing and awards public relations executives such as Warner Bros-Discovery CEO David Zaslav, Bela Bajaria and Kelly Dalton from Netflix and Antonio Gimenez-Palazon from Sony Pictures.
“The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang. “They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide.”
Other interesting statistics about this invitee class are four branches invited more women than men to join — casting directors, costume designers, makeup artists and hairstylists and marketing and public relations. The Actors and Directors branches had most of their candidates hail from underrepresented ethnic and racial communities.
Eight filmmakers have been invited to multiple branches — Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”), Colm Bairéad (“The Quiet Girl”), Edward Berger (“All Quiet on the Western Front”), Antonio Campos (“The Devil All the Time”), Lukas Dhont (“Close”), Ana Katz (“The Dog Who Wouldn’t be Quiet”) and Santiago Mitre (“Argentina, 1985”); however, they can only select one upon accepting membership.
In 2022, the Oscars invited 397 new members, including singer Billie Eilish, Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, “Belfast” stars Caitríona Balfe, Jamie Dornan and Disney exec Dana Walden.
With the addition of this new member class, the Academy is now 34% women, 18% from underrepresented communities and 20% from outside the U.S.
This year’s slate of awards contenders will have massive star power and legendary filmmakers in the mix such as Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune Part Two” with Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet.
Music Taylor Swift – “Where the Crawdads Sing,” “Cats”

RRR writer says Jr NTR played “supporting” role in SS Rajamouli directorial; opens up on audience perception of Ram Charan
RRR, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan, was released in 2022.

RRR writer says Jr NTR played “supporting” role in SS Rajamouli directorial; opens up on audience perception of Ram Charan
During an interaction with Mahaa Max, Vijayendra Prasad said, “I thought they’re both important to the story when I wrote the film. But after I watched it, I felt like people will remember Charan’s character more. That said, it is difficult to play NTR’s role, he did it well. Charan’s character has so many shades to it, NTR has to be efficient in playing the supporting role throughout.”
Adding another layer of complexity, Prasad also discussed audience perception in the North. He believes audiences from this region “assumed” a connection between Ram Charan’s character and Lord Ram, a factor he sees as unintentional but ultimately beneficial for the film’s reception.
He clarified, “We never intended to showcase Ram Charan as Lord Ram…The name Ram is part of Seetharamaraju, and also, he is a devotee of Lord Ram.” This perceived association, according to Prasad, inadvertently overshadowed Jr NTR’s Komaram Bheem.
Despite the ongoing discussion, Prasad isn’t ready to close the book on RRR’s universe. Readers may recall that earlier in a chat with Bollywood Hungama, the writer hinted at a potential sequel set in Africa, potentially reuniting Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem on a new global stage. However, with SS Rajamouli currently focused on his upcoming project with Mahesh Babu, any potential RRR sequel remains in the distant future.

The 2015 film Baahubali: The Beginning, which was directed by S.S. Rajamouli, will be shown in the Stavanger Opera House in Norway. The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will perform live during the screening of the Prabhas starrer. S.S. Rajamouli, the director, thanked the audience on social media while sharing the exciting news.
Can't forget the wonderful #Baahubali: The Beginning showing at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which is still ingrained in my eyes, he added. Currently, we are anticipating another wonderful film in concert screening of Baahubali 1 in Norway on August 18 at the Stavanger Opera House with a performance by the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
In the historical fiction movie Baahubali: The Beginning, a young warrior seeks to exact revenge on his father's killer. The movie was a box office and critical hit, making over Rs 1000 crore globally. It is regarded as one of the greatest Indian movies ever made. In addition to Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishna, Sathyaraj, and Nassar, the two-film series starred Prabhas as the principal actor.
Returning to S.S. Rajamouli, his most recent film, RRR, was directed by Ram Charan and Jr. NTR. He and Mahesh Babu are now working on their future movie.

Game Changer: A Cinematic Gamble That Didn’t Pay Off
In the world of cinema, not every ambitious project translates into box office success. Game Changer, directed by Shankar and starring Ram Charan, is a testament to this harsh reality. Released on January 10, 2025, the film was anticipated to be a blockbuster but ended up as one of the year’s significant disappointments.
The Grand Vision
Game Changer was mounted on an extravagant budget of ₹400 crore. The filmmakers spared no expense, allocating ₹75 crore solely for the film’s five songs, each shot over 10–12 days with massive sets and hundreds of background dancers. Producer Dil Raju highlighted this lavish expenditure during the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai, emphasizing the scale and grandeur envisioned for the project.
Star-Studded Ensemble
The film boasted a stellar cast:
Ram Charan as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer combating political corruption.
Kiara Advani in a pivotal role opposite Ram Charan.
Anjali, SJ Suryah, Samuthirakani, Srikanth, and Prakash Raj in significant supporting roles.
Music composer Thaman added to the film’s allure with a soundtrack that generated early excitement among fans.
Initial Optimism
Before its release, Game Changer showed promise by recovering nearly half of its production cost through non-theatrical rights, including OTT, satellite, and audio deals. This pre-release revenue was a positive indicator, suggesting a strong performance upon its theatrical debut.
Box Office Performance
However, the film’s theatrical run told a different story. Game Changer opened with a net earning of ₹51 crore across all languages in India. Unfortunately, the momentum waned rapidly:
Day 2: Earnings dropped to ₹21 crore.
Day 3: Further declined to under ₹16 crore.
By the end of its run, the film amassed only ₹131 crore net in India, with ₹89 crore from the Telugu version. The Hindi and Tamil versions underperformed, earning ₹32 crore and ₹8.30 crore, respectively. Internationally, the film garnered just over $3.5 million (approximately ₹30 crore), culminating in a worldwide total of ₹186 crore — a figure significantly below expectations for a project of this scale.
Analyzing the Setback
Several factors contributed to the film’s lackluster performance:
Overemphasis on Spectacle: Critics and audiences felt that the film prioritized grandeur over substance, leading to a disconnect with viewers.
Weak Storytelling: Despite Shankar’s reputation for impactful narratives, Game Changer lacked the compelling storytelling that audiences anticipated.
High Expectations: Following the success of RRR, Ram Charan’s solo outing faced immense expectations, which the film couldn’t meet.
Conclusion
Game Changer serves as a cautionary tale in the film industry, illustrating that a hefty budget and star-studded cast don’t always guarantee success. The film’s underperformance underscores the importance of balancing visual spectacle with a strong, engaging narrative to resonate with audiences.

It was also revealed at the awards show, through a behind-the-scenes video, that his pet, Rhyme, will be included as part of his upcoming figure, making him the only celebrity, apart from Queen Elizabeth II, to have a pet featured. "Im really touched that the Madame Tussauds team included my darling pet Rhyme with my figure. This means a lot to me, as it shows the perfect synergy between my work and my life-Rhyme is a big part of it. This one is special."
