This little lady is ready for a brawl! She's the first of a set I made inspired by the art of Root the board game! Let me know if you'd be interested in buying the whole set as stickers

Board game night with the Task Force L insists they play this shit:
Tumblr media
L: So, Light, which faction would you like to play as?
Light: *Dammit! I can't say I want to play the Eyrie, their thirst for conquest makes them exactly the faction that Kira would like! Maybe I could ask to play the Alliance... No! The Alliance's strategy relies on unpredictability and secrecy! L would know I'm hiding something. And it's the same with the Vagabond... playing all sides is exactly the kind of thing Kira would do. You think you got me, don't you L? But I've thought this through. I should ask to play the Marquise, it's a basic faction perfect for beginners and plays on the defensive. It's perfect for someone who isn't Kira.*
L: *If Light asks to play the Marquise he's Kira*

I made a simple tool to randomize faction picks in Root
It's all vanilla Javascript, so if you download its source code you can run it locally with no need for a server or a ridiculous chain of dependencies~
Hope it's useful!

yesterday's gamin' tried a couple digi-board games from the recent humbund w/spouse wingspan & root (incoming Bird Alerts for both games, of course)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm already familiar with the physical versions of both (Root less so;;; currently i only know how to play eyrie [surprising no one]) 10/10 for the visual effort on both of these really made it feel worthwhile if you already have the tabletops
Tumblr media
wingspan has bird calls & animations for each bird??? and i love how they visualize the habitat transitions
Tumblr media
root has adorable 3D models in place of the meeples & very nice audio design on all fronts as for how they play, i'm liking root's transition to digital a bit better (for me personally, the inherent railroading of the video game format helps me stay a little less confused lol) wingspan often throws me as to where i'm supposed to be clicking, but maybe i'll get used to it. not being able to see all elements of the game at all times is a surprisingly big adjustment ----------------------------------------------------------
but yesterday's Main Event was remembering that No Man's Sky has a creative mode that i have somehow Not been using this entire time
Tumblr media
i play NMS to see the sights and come up w/silly names for my discoveries all the hazards & combat & resource management 'n whatnot are super neat to have & i respect them, but the exploration element is so alluring in this game that i kinda wish i didn't have to deal with those so imagine my delight to discover "hey u can just turn the less fun* parts off" *=less fun for me personally, don't @ me :'v
but anyway, i have yet to make good use of photo mode, but here are some vanilla caps:
Tumblr media
(i will also need to experiment w/how much my computer can handle with the newfangled optimizations they introduced--these are currently pretty low settings)
i thought this boat had a cool shape & name, so i bought it (i like to call them boats leave me alone)
Tumblr media
gettin' my sit on (tbh i hope this clipping is never fixed)

spooky planet where i met my new orbular son 🥺🥺

and a Bird Alert for good measure

I love Root so much. The juxtaposition between the cutesy art and the horrifically violent theme is endlessly funny to me. Like. Here’s some of the card art
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then the flavor text is shit like: “You’re the true voice of this woodland. Dissenters will burn” and players have abilities called Guerilla Warfare and Oppress the Weak.
Anyways, y’all should play Root, it’s actually a really fun game.

anyways this is my official petition for you to buy root. the physical board game + the good expansions are really expensive but it also has a digital version that’s significantly cheaper and you can play whenever either against ai or online. Mind you there are slight differences between the two but it is an exceptional game with the most beautiful visuals and AWESOME music. Go buy it. (and send me your friend code if you do)
