dude I feel like english speakers are missing out so much on bands from latinoamerica, our rock bands from the 80s go so hard
we all know about their bands and stuff but they never know anything from here because it doesn't get as much attention and it's kinda sad because all those revolutionary lyrics they praise in british rock are nothing compared to any song from, for example, Los Prisioneros
but that's what they get for never taking the time to learn about our culture ig (still if anyone wants a list of songs hit me up I never shut up ab them)

Tal vez colmaban la necesidad
Pero hay vacíos que no pueden llenar
No conocían la profundidad
Hasta que un día no dio para más
***
Del mismo dolor
Vendrá un nuevo amanecer
***
Poder decir adiós
Es crecer.

No cause it has never been a prahse as iconic as "gracias totales" de cerati is not even the colest or complicated prhase ever it doesn't have a deeper meaning is just "thanks" but it saund like some angel came down to our mortal world just to say thanks infront of an orquesta

what latino rock (or punk) bands do u rec?
Definitely Soda Stereo, that's a must. They're an argentinian band from the 80s and probably the most famous latino rock band, with good reason. Any of their stuff is great, their self titled or Nada Personal specially.
Adding to that, Los Prisioneros are one of my favorites. They're a chilean band from the 80s too and they have more political lyrics, Pateando Piedras is my favorite album from them. If you're looking for something more punk, then I'd say Los Miserables, also from Chile, and I'd recommend their self titled.
Huge mention to Legião Urbana, from Brasil. Also from the 80s, Dois is the album to go with them, very similar to that same vibey rock from Soda Stereo.
Also Café Tacvba, from México. From the 90s, they're sort of a rock band but they mix up a lot of styles so I wouldn't listen to them only expecting rock. Re or Avalancha de Éxitos are two good albums from them.
Also, not rock but very important to me personally; Victor Jara. A genius with the guitar and beautiful lyricists, he was publicly executed during a dictatorship in Chile for his protest songs in the 70s. Either Manifiesto or El Derecho De Vivir en Paz are amazing albums from him, if you want to listen to amazing guitar playing and heartbreaking lyrics.
Honorable mentions: Los Tres, Charly García, Fito Paez, Los Bunkers, Gustavo Cerati (obvs)
I'm missing a lot but for now I hope this helps a little and you give any of these a listen :) thank you so much for asking
