Queen's 1953 New Zealand Tour-The North Island.
The Queen's 39-day extensive tour of New Zealand from 23 December 1953 to 30 January 1954, the first by a reigning Sovereign to that country
On 23 December 1953, history was made when Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Auckland aboard the liner S.S. Gothic to undertake a royal progress through her Kingdom of New Zealand. She was the first reigning sovereign to visit to do so. Her first greeting from her people was a welcoming escort of several hundred yachts and a 21-gun salute from the North Head battery as the royal ship passed Bastion…

A gaggle of Tiger Moths at Kaipara Flats.
5 Tiger Moths attended Wings and Wheels Kaipara, of which 2 (ZK-CCQ, ASM) are locally based.
Built at Rongotai (now Wellington Airport WLG/NZWN) by de Havilland New Zealand in 1942, msn DHNZ132 was bought on charge with Unit 18 of the RNZAF.
It was given the s/n NZ1452 and declared surplus in 1956. It was sold to Tulloch Transport, Mararua, for £400 and remained in storage for just shy of a decade.
It was given the c/r ZK-CCQ, and after bouncing between Kirikiroa Hamilton and Tauranga for a bit, it was sold to H. Griffin* in 1970.
It was sold to its current owner in 1987.
*No doubt this is the same H. Griffin, founder of Griffin's Ag-Air in Palmerston North.

Six RNZAF P-40 Kittyhawks from 16 Squadron and a No. 9 Squadron Lockheed Hudson in formation on the way to Guadalcanal, 1943.
(Photo taken from another Hudson)
Hudsons would act as navigators for the single-seat fighters while they crossed the Pacific Ocean on ferry flights like this.
While flying the P-40, Kiwi pilots from No 16 Squadron are credited with shooting down 14 Japanese Zeros.
The squadron lost 7 P-40s and 4 pilots to enemy fire.
The RNZAF Fighter Wing is credited with 100 air-to-air kills, with the most of those being Zeros, for the loss of only 20 P-40s to enemy action.

5, 14, 25 for end of year questions 👽👽
From this game
5 - TV show of the year?
You already KNOW it's TXF. Don't lie. I've only had those funky little FBI agents since August, but if anything happened to them I would [remembers some jokes only make my mental health worse] make a whole bunch of GIFs then write a six-chapter seasonal fic where they're both happy and get to have good time.
Look out for that over the next week or so!
Anyway yeah. The X Files. The show ever, I can't believe I waited this long to get into it, it's so good and so silly and occasionally very profound but more often just silly. And it has a great and active fandom that's getting bigger by the day! Yay!
(Aside: Everyone: Drop GIF requests if you have any! I need something to procrastinate on so the above six-chapter seasonal fic gets finished ^^' They may even get made next year!)
14 - Favorite book you read this year?
My favourite book that I actually finished would have to be Tempest Pilot by Jim Sheddan and Norman Franks. It's a memoir of Sheddan's career in the RNZAF during WW2, and let me tell you, this man was insane. All sorts of hilarious escapades, on and off duty, it's a brilliant read which cuts right to the bone in places. He was one of the first people, if not the first, to successfully ditch a Typhoon, and even then came away with pretty bad injuries. I highly reccommend it, particularly to anyone with an interest in the history of air side of WW2, or aviation in general :)
25 - Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one.
Oh, interesting! I've actually made quite a few minor characters across various stories/projects, but the favourite that comes to mind is as part of my main WIP: 'Maps' Mapleton.
Despite the nickname, his surname is pronounced as 'Maypul-tn'. He appears briefly as a reoccuring character during the immediately post-WW2 period of the project, a member of the squadron that my main character, Red, is temporarily attached to, and he acts sort of like a mentor. Here are some bits where he appears so far!
(Pspsps @hogans-heroes, some more snippets...)
Thank you for the asks, and Happy New Year! 🎆 :D

Finished: Italeri 1/48 North American AT-6 Harvard in RNZAF 1975 markings.
The only real issue that I had is that this kit doesn't have the option for the short exhaust stack, so I sort of bashed together on that works OKish. Oh, I also accidentally put the wing roundel on the fuselage, but it's fine, everything is fine.
