More non-cannon RE 4 remake/ Luis Serra head canon
1. So in the labratory you find a file called Subject Analysis: Regenerador written by an unnamed researcher who claims to have created the Regenerador. One of the days has the note
“Date: April 13 I shared the news of my achievement with that pretentious bastard colleague of mine. His face went white! Then, he started scribbling something in his notebook. I thought he'd be impressed, but instead, he actually had the nerve to warn me of the so-called dangers.”
You never find out who this “pretentious bastard colleague” is but I’m assuming it’s Luis [in RE 4 he’s 28 and has to have already graduated from both a undergraduate and graduate university (he’d need at least a masters degree to get even the lowest level researcher postion), and been a top researcher at Umbrella (which he left before 1998 when he’d be 22) so i’m thinking the author of this note whose probably much older then 28 might be projecting their insecurities] and this was maybe the real turning point(straw that broke the camels back) for Luis as it gave him flash backs to his time working for Umbrella and lead to him trying contact his old collage friend for help but Ada intercepted his email.
2. While in game you find out from two notes Captive Researcher's Note and Superior Species Report that Saddler infected all the researchers who had been working on the Las Plages to find their weaknesses with a stronger variant(which i assume was the one Leon and Ashely are probably infected with based on the captive researchers notes). From the notes it’s clear that this “stonger” Las Plagas staine does not having any special abilities besides keeping the host's cognitive functions from diminishing while eventually making the host become zealot follower of the cult. And as we are told head researcher Anabel Garcia Escudero was infected first, but we don’t know how long before the game this happens but I assume it was a good few months if not a full year at least , as they probably wanted to test long term effects before they went through with their plan to kidnap Ashely. I assume this is also the type Luis was infected with but unlike his colleagues he was able to have it removed. However as we never see anyone who looks like a part of any science staff, even in the lab on the island, my idea is that over enough time the hosts did lose their cognitive functions making the infected scientist useless as scientist but as this strain of Las Plagas did not inhibit their motter functions as much as the OG stain did Saddler converted the scientist into the ranks of the already existing zelaot monks (they are probably the ones with the torches) but kept a few of the female scientists to be his personal attendants whose heads are always covered but seems to have no issue with their coordination or other motter skills unlike some of the other cult members or the Ganados.
3. Luis had finished his machine that removed las Plagas when he and the other scientists where infected but Saddler had all the scientist shipped off the island and held in Salazars Castle in an attempt to stop the scientists from being able removing the parasite while they still had control of themselves. However Luis and a collage who had some surgical skills had managed to grab the medicine that suppresses Las Plagas, along with a few medical tools and Luis’ lab key and once at the Castle they escaped down into the Mines below ( which is why during game Leon finds Luis in the mines as that is where he was hiding the remaining suppressant and his lab key) . They tried to remove each others parasites surgically with only the scalpels, two syringes of localized anesthetics and a pocket sized high power uv flashlight that they had managed to smuggle with them from the Island along with the bottles of disinfectant, local herbs and suture kit they had found in the Mines first aid room. Luis’ was removed first but his collage fully succumbed in the middle of Luis trying to remove theirs. Before this the collage had made Luis promise on his Abuelo (Grandfather) Navarro’s grave that he would “put them down rather then let them live as one of Saddler’s puppets like head researcher Anabel” and while Luis kept this promise doing so still ways heavy on his conscience and is one of the reasons why he so adamantly wants to help Leon and Ashely successfully remove their parasites.
