Only ricefields drowning in mosquitoes and half-built houses left to rot when the fathers fled to Dubai. We kissed under a banana tree once. Her fingers dug into the dirt like she was planting something. Me, maybe. My body. My hunger. She called me ‘mahal’ then bit my shoulder hard enough to draw blood. We laughed like that wouldn’t damn us.

She left before graduation. Her lola found the letters. Burned them in a kalan and told the neighbors I was a phase. I didn’t cry until I saw her lipstick stain on one of the old glass Coke bottles we used for water. I kept it hidden under my bed for weeks. Smelled it like it could bring her back. Like the ghost of her mouth could still forgive me for being born wrong. Mama found it eventually. Slapped me so hard I saw the Virgin weep. Said nothing. Just cleaned up the broken glass and went to mass. I stayed home and scrubbed the floor where her blood had dried, wondering if Mary Magdalene ever loved someone enough to go to hell for them.

Now I carry her in the same way girls carry knives in their schoolbags. Quietly. Just in case. I keep her name under my tongue like a bullet. Sharp. Waiting. Because they don’t bury girls like us—they forget us. They bleach the sheets. They silence the walls. But the ghosts stay. They always stay. And when I fuck other girls, I still whisper her name like a prayer I was never supposed to learn—“My Ruth,”—a novena composed of sweat and broken Tagalog. A psalm that tastes like rust and mango skin.

Okay so ironically enough I was scrolling your blog to catch up on a couple of your Nightcrawler fics I was behind on and seeing this finally made me finish my X-Men oc’s ref sheet.

Allegra is 29 and hails from Venice, Italy. Her mother died in childbirth and she was thrust upon her father Matteo, a well known crime mogul, as an infant.

From birth her mutation made her skin so pale it’s partially transparent, and her eyes are a beady black. Ashamed of his daughter’s appearance, Matteo sentenced Allegra to a nocturnal existence away from his house staff and business partners.

Around 13, the spikes that decorate her skin began to come in, and at the same time she began to sneak out more, eventually falling in with the wrong crowd.

This led her to Carlotta, a girl 6 years her senior who was working as a runner for a different crime organization, she too being a mutant who was visibly different than others. Slowly she built a group of misfits around her, and at 16 Allegra ran away from home to permanently join Carlotta in her work

When she turned 18, and Carlotta 24, she began her own crime empire using connections she’d made as a runner. Her gang consisted of only visible mutants, as she believed they had it harder. She gave Allegra the name of Sanguine for her cheery personality as well as her power, which had now fully manifested.

Allegra’s power is blood manipulation, specifically that of other’s. It has to make contact with her skin where she can then mentally manipulate the field around her to harden and shape the blood, usually into weapons but sometimes into armor.

I imagine she betrays Carlotta after she discovers that she’s running a mutant trafficking ring some of the X-men have come to investigate. Said ring only selling mutants who can hide the fact they’re mutants out of spite. She abandons her friends for the X-Men in the end hoping to right her wrongs.

She covers her face in her civilian outfit to hide her sharp teeth and most of her face spikes, and her long coat is usually buttoned, hiding her body spikes.

Allegra’s X-men outfit shows more skin since the blood has to touch her skin to harden + she can turn it into armor. The tubes on the sides contain blood she can unscrew the bottom of to use, but she also carries knives in her leg pouch to replenish mid battle, same for the spikes on her uniform.

I’m undecided on who to ship her with, I’m torn between Nightcrawler or Magick, as she’s right between their headcanon ages for me. I see most of the new mutants + Kitty as being in their early to mid 20’s while I see Kurt as being in his early to mid 30’s.

Sorry for lore dumping about her but I need to share her with the world.

Translation notes:

- “Hunter” in pretty much all cases was actually the word “Matagi,” which refers to traditional winter hunters of the Tōhoku region of northern Japan, who are known for hunting bears. His WIP name was “Country B Matagi” [Country B referring to Aesfrost].

- The dog breed that they repeat a few times in the first set of images is “Pekingese.” Pekingese are small lapdogs, so it seems like either a joke or an incorrect translation on my end--I couldn’t seem to find an alternate translation, but there might be some context I was missing. Related to the above point, the Matagi are strongly associated with the Akita breed of dog, which is larger and looks more wolf-like, so that’s probably more what they were getting at here.

- “DREAM” (the a label over the little Rudolph-riding-the-wolf cartoon) seemed to involve some Chinese characters, and was possibly some sort of loan word. I’m pretty sure it meant something along the lines of dream/illusion/fake, but I’m not clear on the actual definition.

- The characters for “driftwood” were pretty unambiguous, but I still feel like it might be a mistranslation because it seems weird in context.

- “You callin’ me?” was another one I wasn’t sure about, since the characters are pretty small and it seems to be casual/abbreviated speech. He might have been saying something slightly different, but I think the general feeling of “You callin’ me?” is probably generally what they were going for.

- The line that I wrote as “The knife has one bevel down its length” was literally translated as something like “A one-edged knife like ’Nagasa [word meaning the length of a blade measured from the point to the back edge notch]’”. After looking into it a bit, it seems like some traditional Eastern knives are sharpened on once side while typical Western knives are sharped on both. I think that’s what they were getting at here, but I’m not sure. “Nagasa” as it stands in the original text is inside of quotation marks, which makes me think they might have been referring to some specific brand or type of knife, but I couldn’t find any concrete info on it.

- “Bear” wasn’t exactly the character for “bear,” but it was off by about one stroke and it’s what all of the translators and dictionaries defaulted to. I kind of wonder if there might be something significant about that (possibly something tied to Matagi culture), but I couldn’t find anything for sure.

Another reference sheet for this character?! You bet your buttons! FIGHT ME! Yes, we have another ref sheet for my beloved Nyx, or rather Shinigami as I normally introduce her as. Gotta love characters with fake identities. Anyways, this time around she hasn’t gone through many changes though it felt enough to warrant a new ref sheet.

Though I will say she’s gone through quite a bit of changes information wise. Perhaps I’ll share some on this post- we’ll just have to wait and see by the time I’m done typing this. It’ll just be some basic information as I am currently doing a bit of of tangoing with her backstory and such.

A false identity that had been created by her teammate, Blacklight (Sidewire), after abandoning the Decepticons.

Model: Femme Bot, Two Wheeler

Optic Color: Light Purple

Notable Features: Four Optics, Sharpened Pupils, Fangs, and Claw-like Digits. Wears a green sash around the waist.

Modifications: Signal Suppressor and Cloaking

Signal Suppressor allows Nyx to hide her signal from any scanners, allowing her to keep her location unknown.

Cloaking makes Nyx invisible to others, only being visible to those with thermal vision.

Weaponry: Thorn/Stiletto Daggers and Knives

During her Cyber-Ninja training growing up, she was taught to handle various sharp weapons, however she developed a love for thorn daggers. Typically having a few on her person, as they can be used both in close combat and as ranged weapons when thrown. These daggers also have compartments in them that allow the wielder to add poisons or other harmful chemicals.

She also carries a variety of other knives as well, as she carries a big love for sharp objects and sees to it that she’s always armed in some form or fashion.

Skills: Master Cyber-Ninja, Talented Chemist and Toxicologist

Having been trained since she was very young, Nyx has had countless stellar cycles to practice the arts of Circuit-Su and the ways of the Cyber-Ninjas. It is because of her mastery that she has gained amazing prowess in many fields such as combat, stealth, espionage, etc.

Having weapons with poison compartments inspired her to learn to make her own dangerous poisons and toxins. Years of this has made her quite talented and knowledgeable in the world of chemistry and toxicology. 

Occupation: Member of the Cyber-Ninja Corps, Agent of the Elite Guard

During her time with the Elite Guard during the war, rather than joining the Autobots outright she had signed an agreement with them. This contract stated that whenever the Elite Guard needed her assistance she would be on call and carry out any orders that Ultra Magnus had for her.

It also ensured that if anything were to happen to Sharp Edge, her presumed at the time Conjux Endura, that she would be taken care of.

After he went MIA and eventually presumed offline she was sent to the Iacon Dojo Fortress until further notice, which she left after it had been attacked by Decepticons.

Personality Nyx seems to mostly express behaviors that are perceived as aggressive and introverted, being diagnosed to have inherited her father’s untamed anger issues. She can have difficulty communicating with others in a friendly manner, however when exposed to familiar faces she has a much easier time. The rough exterior seems to hide her true social awkwardness. This awkwardness was created from the fact that from day one she was raised for war and never got a chance of a true social life outside of her team members. This would later be remedied a bit when she meets others after abandoning the Decepticons. Learning how to interact with others without defaulting physical violence as quickly or being stuck on how to respond in a normal conversation. Nyx has developed the habit of smoking cy-garettes and drinking quite a bit of high grade. While during her time with the Elite Guard and the Iacon Dojo have smashed her drinking habits, her smoking habits remain strong.
