Mercedes-Benz 450 SL, 1973. The US-spec R107 series differed from the European and other international versions by having twin round headlamps and larger bumpers to comply with federal legislation. All US R107 cars had 4.5 litre V8 engines though early cars were badged as 350SL models (other markets received 3.5 litre V8s) but for 1973 they got 450SL badges. Two thirds of total R107 production were sold on the North American market

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class represents elegant open-air motoring for those seeking luxury sports car thrills. But how much does owning this German icon cost? This in-depth guide covers Mercedes SL-Class pricing across all trims. Learn MSRPs, invoice prices, monthly payments, and typical deals to understand what to pay for both new and used versions of these elite convertibles. Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Generations and Timeline Mercedes has sold the SL continuously across 7 generations since 1954: W198 - 1954-1963 - The original "sport light" model and icon of 1950s auto styling. W113 - 1963-1971 - Famously featured on 1960s TV like "I Dream of Jeannie." R107 - 1971-1989 - A bestseller with over 237,000 sold during an 18-year run. R129 - 1989-2002 - Revived the SL legend for the 1990s with V12 engines and retractable roof. R230 - 2002-2011 - Controversial styling but packed the latest technology for the era. R231 - 2012-2020 - Returned to more timeless styling with a focus on lightweight components. R232 - 2022-Present - The latest generation with a digital-first interior and active aerodynamics. This heritage gives the SL provenance among luxury roadsters. Its pricing reflects the premium status. New Mercedes SL-Class MSRP - Base and Options The all-new 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class enters its 7th generation with a starting MSRP of $114,700 for the base SL 55 model. It comes well-equipped with features like: Twin turbo V8 engine 9-speed transmission All-wheel drive Leather upholstery 12.3" infotainment display Active suspension Stepping up to the SL 63 brings a racier twin-turbo V8 and more performance elements like: Carbon fiber roof Dynamic engine mounts Nappa leather AMG performance exhaust This bumps MSRP to $166,500. The top SL 65 AMG with a V12 tops out around $240,000. Major packages include: Premium package - $6,400 Driver Assistance package - $3,000 Acoustic Comfort package - $1,500 With every option added, the range-topping SL can approach $300,000 MSRP. Mercedes-Benz SL 450 Mercedes SL-Class Invoice Pricing Invoice price represents the wholesale cost dealers pay to Mercedes-Benz for each model before adding any markup. The invoice provides insight into deal negotiation range. Here are the 2023 SL-Class invoice prices across the lineup: SL 55 - $105,000 SL 63 - $151,000 SL 65 AMG - $215,000 Expect dealers to sell anywhere between 2-10% above the dealer invoice price depending on demand, inventory, and incentives. Mercedes-Benz SL 550 What Deals Can Buyers Expect on the SL-Class? Due to its limited volume luxury status, buyers should not expect large discounts or rebates off MSRP for the SL. However, the following types of savings are possible with negotiation: Invoice pricing - Paying 1-3% above invoice is achievable for a fair deal based on market supply. Customer cash - Mercedes sometimes offers $1,000 - $3,000 customer cash on lower volume models. Dealer incentives - Dealers have periodic volume-based bonus cash incentives from Mercedes too. Lease specials - Attractive promotional lease offers appear occasionally but leasing is less common. Realistically, expect to pay within 5-8% of the sticker price on an in-demand SL model. Seeking invoice pricing and any current incentives gives you leverage. Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG What Are the Monthly Payments on an SL? At a 5% interest rate, here are the estimated monthly payments across SL trims: SL 55 - $1,790 per month SL 63 - $2,890 per month SL 65 AMG - $4,400 per month These assume a 72-month term with strong credit and 10% down payment. The SL runs $1,000+ more in monthly payments than an S-Class sedan. Used Mercedes SL-Class Pricing On the pre-owned market, pricing for recent model year SL-Class cars typically spans: SL 55 - $85,000 - $95,000 SL 63 -
$110,000 - $130,000 SL 65 AMG - $150,000 - $190,000 Depreciation is steep on exotic Mercedes variants, so used prices for top models plummet. But the SL holds value better than many competing luxury marques. Checking sites like Autotrader provides comparison pricing on local used inventory. Focus on verified models with service records. FAQs What is the destination charge on the 2023 SL-Class? Mercedes adds a $1,150 destination and delivery charge to new SL models. This is standard across their lineup. Which states have the highest SL ownership taxes? Expect to pay the most annually for registering and insuring an SL-Class in states like Washington, Texas, Michigan, and Iowa due to luxury taxes. How much does an extended warranty for the SL cost? Mercedes offers several extended warranty terms. Expect around $5,000 for 3 years/75,000 miles of extra coverage. Extended warranties provide added peace of mind. Does Mercedes offer discounts for military or student buyers? Yes, Mercedes offers a $750 military incentive plus recent college grad discounts. However, the SL models have limited retail incentives since they are exclusive vehicles. How much slower does an SL 55 depreciate versus an SL 65 AMG? The exotic SL 65 AMG struggles more to retain value long-term. After 5 years an SL 55 may be worth 50% of MSRP versus just 35% for the top V12 model. Key Takeaways on Mercedes-Benz SL Pricing New 2023 SL base prices span from $115,000 to $240,000. Light discounts off MSRP around invoice price are typical. Rebates are rare. Used prices range from $85,000 for an SL 55 to $190,000 for an SL 65 AMG. Extended warranties help limit repair risk but cost around $5,000. Owning an exotic SL for 5+ years leads to steep depreciation. The SL-Class commands a premium as an iconic luxury Mercedes. Cost-conscious buyers are better off with a gently used model. But for some, only the prestige of a new SL will do. #Wiack #Car #CarInsurance #CarRental #CarPrice #AutoLoans

Mercedes-Benz SL AMG 5.0  (1 of 8)
Since inception in 1971, it was clear that the R107 series of convertibles was less the exhilarating “super leicht”—super light— performance machine the original SL was and more a beautifully engineered luxury coupe. Even the V-8 models were relatively underpowered, fitted exclusively with automatic transmissions, and rode upon a compliant suspension that emphasized luxurious cruising. In this regard, the independent tuning firm AMG, based in Affalterbach, Germany, saw a massive business opportunity. For a privileged clientele with unbounded checkbooks, AMG—which remained independent until Mercedes-Benz acquired a 50-percent stake in 1999 and then fully subsumed it in 2005—would entirely transform the SL into a true sports roadster with greatly improved power, handling, aerodynamics, and a full suite of attention-grabbing cosmetic accoutrements. Each car specified by an AMG customer was bespoke, replete with à-la-carte options offered from the company’s wide-ranging catalogue.
This 500 SL is the first of eight examples equipped with a five-speed manual transmission reportedly built by AMG for North American customers between 1982 and 1987.
A pair of ported and polished cylinder heads, which house solid mechanical intake valve lifters, and a set of AMG camshafts are the pièces de résistances among its desirable AMG-engineered performance upgrades. This top-end power kit is complemented by a modified air-intake assembly, and custom exhaust system which altogether help this 5.0-liter engine produce a conservatively rated 276 horsepower and achieve a top speed above 155 mph. Considering that the most powerful SL available to a US buyer in 1982 used a 3.8-liter V-8 that produced a mere 204 horsepower and had a top speed of 133 mph, this SL 500 AMG 5.0 is truly a mechanical marvel by comparison.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission from Getrag and a limited-slip differential, which sits upon a unique 3.46:1 rear axle. Close inspection reveals that AMG technicians cleverly repurposed the car’s original bellhousing to unite the Getrag transmission with the engine. A full “Bilstein for AMG” suspension and color-matched 16-inch BBS alloy wheels wrapped in Kumho tires provide more agile handling dynamics and a pleasingly aggressive stance.
The interior is a rather subtle affair by AMG standards, though a handsome pair of Recaro Ideal seats wearing Palomino leather helps convey the high-performance potential. The shift boot and steering wheel have been similarly upholstered, uniting a pleasant aesthetic highlighted by rich zebrano wood trim and AMG’s signature 300-km/h speedometer.

A Mercedes-Benz 560 SL R107. This one is a US-spec, not very common in Europe - specially because the european spec of this generation of the SL was far more attractive.

Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 brochure (edited), 1977. The C107 series SLC is the only example of a 4-seat hardtop coupé being created from an SL class Mercedes. The C107 rode on a wheelbase that was 14 inches longer the the R107 SL. The 450 SLC 5.0 was the ultimate version of the SLC, powered by the then new alloy 5.0 litre V8 engine that went on to power the W126 series S-class. The C107 was discontinued in 1980 and was replaced by the C126 S-class coupé. The R107 SL remained in production (using the same 5.0 litre V8) until 1988
