apropos of nothing, but i suddenly remembered this baffling encounter i had with acupuncture back when i was in college. my mom got acupuncture and it helped her quit smoking (which, yay! whatever works, works!) and then she made me go to try to see if it'd cure a neurological condition i have (which uh, im neither here nor there over alternative medicine and whatnot but in her defense, i had had countless inconclusive diagnostic tests abt this condition so she was very much grasping at straws here for anything that would help me) and since im a good boy who follows what his mother says, i said "okay" and it was a pretty alright experience. i was and am currently still not very squeamish with needles so it didnt bother me very much. if anything, i just took the weekly acupuncture sessions as an hour to nap (with needles in me). but then one day, one of the needles (that went into my abdomen) had a....thingy at the end of it. it looked like a large-ish cork thingy balancing atop of the needle. and i was like "huh, what is that?" but i didnt say it out loud because of my debilitating anxiety and worry and i didnt wanna come off as the weird guy who asks too many questions at the acupuncturist. so i didnt ask. and the acupuncture guy thusly did not explain.
then he set the thingy on fire. and then he left the room.
i dont know about you, but in general i was taught that fires should not be left unattended. that goes for normal fires, but this was a fire lit perilously at the end of a needle sticking out of my abdomen. i guess i was the person attending to the fire, but like, i couldnt move. because of needles in me. it was a harrowing hour. i could not nap. there was an on fire thingy connected to my body. i spent a whole hour laying down alone with my thoughts and also with a small on fire thingy as company.
theres no moral to this story, it's just one of those things that made me go "hey what was that all about" but i never asked because i dont wanna be the weird guy whos not cool with fire needles

I started a new medication early last week, and surprisingly, it's working very well. My mania is more controlled and my lows are often short lived. I'm even able to skip my mid-day naps most days. I started my own business and, though it is still in the start-up stage i've been working very hard on it.
I began exercising more frequently, which is hard and often makes me feel like shit about myself because some days i can only stand to do 5 minutes on the treadmill and that just doesn't seem like anything compared to how i used to work out. But the sweat and pain tell me otherwise.
I have gained more weight unfortunately. And though I absolutely loath my buddha belly, I had a moment, for the first time since i gained weight that i felt absolutely beautiful. And that was nice.
I began smoking again. i hate it for me too, sis. I desperately want to quit but the withdrawals from it make me paranoid and messes with my schizoaffective symptoms. Oddly enough, my sister, who is schizophrenic informed me that tobacco does indeed help with schizophrenic symptoms. however, being confused as the older sister is killing me.
I got a lipfiller touch up, and they look -perfect-
I feel beautiful.
I also got a little bit of filler in my smile lines and some botox to hopefully help with my migraines and to make me a little foxier. just a touch. When I got the botox shot itself it completely cleared up the current migraine i was suffering through. So i may need to look into acupuncture! I'm hoping my primary care dr will send a referral to a neurologist so i can get botox for migraines covered by my insurance.
but i adore laser-away Seattle and absolutely love them for making me feel beautiful and always giving me a pleasant experience.
I do have a favorite there; her name is Elisabeth. I refer everyone i talk to, to her because she is wonderful. She makes me feel like a friend, and is so pleasant and always finds me the best deals, steals, and treatments. I'm excited to send her pictures of the Botox working in a couple days. my favorite injector is Payton. She understaaaaaands the assignment. every. time.

All I can say is marijuana has helped me immeasurably with sleep. I've been taking prescription MMO for over ten years -- it helps with my emphysema by drying up some of the phlegm in my lungs (think of the dry mouth you get when you smoke a joint) and helps with my apnea.
I get into bed and within ten minutes I'm off to deep sleep. (I quit drinking last fall and thought for sure not having a belly full of wine would make sleep difficult but that was not the case).
Marijuana is part of the array of 'old way' things that I have come back around to believing in. Witch hazel, zinc soap, milk of magnesia, pepto bismol, hydrogen peroxide...all things that our parents and grandparents used and relied on but have disappeared from use because Big Pharma doesn't make any money off them. Add in acupuncture and your trips to the doctor will diminish.

recovery day eleven
I think I may have taken two doses of my meds the night before last bc I feel quite down today and was a 🤏 🤪…I was loving life don’t get me wrong but I did feel on the verge of manic, and today I feel like, realistic again. Maybe this is just what actual recovery is like- being all over the place? anyway I had my first counselling session today, I just spoke at her for almost the entire hour and left feeling rly weird lol I thought id been doing well with moving on from my ex by acknowledging that • the relationship was not healthy • he did not treat me with respect and was controlling af • if we were truly meant to be together, it would have worked out one of these times that we’d tried • he has an avoidant attachment style whereas I have an anxious one which just equals mess and stress and me begging for his love and approval which in turn means I’m not being true to myself • we never did anything other than smoke weed and fuck…on surface level that does sound amazing but in reality I need a bit more in my life than that lol • he was racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, ableist and a bigot all of which are things that I cannot stand in a person, even as a friend • we are both addicts, but he is still in active addiction which is not a place that I ever want to return to, but he has no intention of leaving rn • he has been absolutely horrible to/about me and deep down, I don’t believe that I am really what he wants. • he put me down all the time, made me feel shit, enjoyed it when I begged for his approval/love, everything was on his terms, he lied so much, none of the people that I love approved of him, we had broken up soooo many times for so many reasons etc etc etc ~ but speaking about all of that again today has kinda reopened that wound and now I’m really sad and hurt that he was fucking with me with no intention of making a go of it when I was so sure that this time I had managed to be what he wanted, and it could finally work out… in counselling today she also helped me to see that he made me feel as though being my authentic self was not okay, and that who I am as a person wasn’t ‘right’ which, yea can’t deny. But I just keep thinking of him with his new girl, loving her the way that I wish he had been able to have loved me… ugh stop. Maybe one day I will find a love like I imagine it to be. We also dug into my childhood a little and my relationship with my dad (always a fun topic) and where/why my addiction started but I’m still none the wiser idc in all honesty I just want it fucking gone for good.
Anyway then I had acupuncture and a car crashed into a wall outside then a bunch of police cars came (unrelated to me but what are the chances) then I got some Halloweeny bits for the Halloween hunt that I’m putting on (very excited) and a Brie and cranberry sandwich (in October???? - was fucking lush tho) before going home and browsing Vinted cos I was already exhausted - picked up my girl, had some dinner and a snuggle, did some art together to enter a local competition (I might be biased but I think they turned out amazing) and then had a bath with a bottle of wine. Probably a silly idea and yes I know technically breaks abstinence rules but as long as I don’t sniff any ket it’s still all game in my eyes. Getting an early night cos I’m a sleepy lil baby 24/7 atm x
