THE FOXBURY FILES EPISODE TWELVE PART THREE

We finally arrive back home and get seated for dinner. The family chef is making all of my favorite foods as well as some that Micah likes. Micah's parents are also here with us. My dad flew them in so they could all finally meet. 

Quentin: It's nice to finally meet you guys.  Tommy: Same here. You have such a big, lovely home.  Angela: Thank you.  Bridgette: Are you guys excited to finally start your lives together?  Blake: I’m so excited!  Micah: Very.  Tommy: Have you guys talked about where you want to live?  Micah: Actually, I was thinking we move back here… Blake: REALLY???  Micah: Yeah. I love being close to the ocean.  Blake: I absolutely agree.  Micah: That doesn’t bother you guys, right?  Bridgette: No honey. Not at all. We never expected you to stay in Oasis Springs.  Quentin: How is work going son?  Micah: Great. I’m learning a lot from Theo and I enjoy designing.  Micah: It's nice I got a head start with making money, because I've been saving most of it for a down payment on a home here.  Blake: Wait, really? Micah: Remember that cute beach house near here we saw? The one you thought was very cute? Blake: Yeah, Yeah??  Micah: It’s for sale and they are willing to give me a good deal if we buy within the next 2 weeks….  Blake: Oh my god, that’s going to be our first house!?  Micah: Yes, if you want it.  Blake: Of course I want it!! Bridgette: That’s wonderful!  Quentin: Well this would be the perfect time for us parents to give you guys your graduation gifts!  My dad hands me an envelope and so does Micah’s dad.  Micah: Dad, mom? $10,000?  Tommy: I’ve been saving for this moment for a while now son. I hope it helps you guys.  Micah: It will help a lot!! Thank you guys.  Bridgette: We love you honey, we’re so proud of you.  Angela: Blake, you want to open yours.  I open the envelope and my god… Blake: $25,000???  Angela: We figured you guys would use it for a down payment on a home.  Blake: Mom, dad this is so awesome. Thank you!! Micah: Now we’ll be able to put down more for the house.  Quentin: There’s one more gift for the both of you.  Blake: What is it? Angela: Let’s all go to the side of the house. 

Everyone heads outside and my dad tells me and Micah to close our eyes…

Quentin: Okay, you kids can open your eyes.

Micah: Holy fucking shit.

Micah: Is that a fucking BMW??? Blake: Daddy, you got us cars?!  Angela: You guys are going to need something to get around here.  Micah: I can’t accept this, Mr. Richardson.  Quentin: It’s dad now that you’re about to be my son in law, and of course you can.  Quentin: You guys worked really hard in your studies.  Blake: Thank you, thank you, thank you guys!! 

Micah: No seriously, thank you guys. 

We all go back inside and have dessert and then play some games. I can’t believe my dad got us brand new cars. Everything is perfect.

Jaeden Martell as Landon Andrews, an really Cool, Serious, & Protective young man who's been close to Sam Carpenter in years until she cheated on him with her boyfriend Richie Kirsch who's Landon has a problem with. He's one of the characters in the Extended Cut of the Scream franchise because he's the best friend of Amber Freeman & Tara Carpenter & the stepbrother of the the Hicks family.

Anna Sawai as Alexis Williams, an Beautiful, Sassy, Tough, & Helpful young woman who's been introduced in the Extended Cut of Scream VI. She's the director's daughter, meaning she is the daughter of Roman Bridger who wanted her to not become a killer like him & have a better life. Until then she's living in New York because she's being adopted by Dewey Riley & Gale Weathers as their daughter & sister of their own daughter Carrie Tatum Riley-Weathers. She's also a classmate of Quentin Bailey in Blackmore University.

Haley Lu Richardson as Bethany "Beth-Ann" Lewis, an Funny, Beautiful, Sassy, Protective, Tough, & Kind young woman who's been introduced in the Extended Cut of Scream VI. She's one of the most popular sorority girls in Blackmore University & she's the older sister of Andrea Lewis.

Django Unchained (2012)

Django Unchained is one of those rare perfect movies. In my opinion it is director Quentin Tarantino's best work. Everything in the movie works together in harmony the soundtrack, writing, acting, cinematography and pacing are all expertly done. I should say that this was the first Tarantino film that I ever watched in about 2014 and it had a profound effect on my taste in films. It is entirely responsible for my love of Westerns and exposing me to the masterpieces of Sergio Leone. I will be getting into light spoilers for this film.

One of the standout parts of the film is the acting. Jamie Foxx is excellently cast as Django. The arc that he goes through is incredibly gratifying and the final scene never fails to leave me with a big smile on my face. Foxx's performance is fantastic, but my personal favorite part of the film has to be, Christoph Waltz's supporting character, King Schultz. In fact, I think his performance transcends this film and is one of my favorite film characters of all time. His mannerisms are what really draw me to his character. The subtly present in all of the performances is what makes the acting standout. In one of the most impactful scenes of the film. Brunhilde(Kerry Washington) is laying on a bed with her back toward the door and a figure approaches. She is mortally terrified, but the audience knows that this is unfounded, but her acting sells this perfect ironic moment.

The technical aspects of this film are excellent. The movement of the camera is spectacular and one of my favorite bits of camerawork, by Robert Richardson, are the snap zoom-ins and zoom-outs that are peppered throughout the film. The slight corniness of the shot just really speaks to me. Richardson also knows when to keep the camera still and during the moments of tension the camera moves very little and moves the viewer towards the edge of their seat. The editing in this film, by Fred Raskin, is just as good as the camera work. The film is tightly edited. The montages move the film along while during the moments of tension the editing slows down so the audience can really revel in the atmosphere of the scene.

The writing in this film is fantastic. There are so many things that brought up earlier in the film that pay off by the end. In my opinion, that is the sign of a great film, but also of a writer. Meaningful callbacks reward the viewer for paying attention and I feel that it doesn't happen enough in cinema. The film is set in the pre-Civil War South and it uses this setting to its fullest. The film is about a freed slave, Django, who sets out to rescue his wife from a Mississippi plantation. The film does not make light of slavery it shows just how disgusting and reprehensible it was. In a way the film shows how pathetic racism and slavery was by its use of violence. Much like Tarantino's other films there is a lot of blood and violence. The violence here is used in two ways. The first way is to show the horrors of slavery. In one scene there is a death match between two slaves that is incredible violent and incredibly uncomfortable. The second way is for a sort of cathartic release. The climax of the movie when Django is unchained and just kills all these slavers, the audience is awash with catharsis. Seeing blood burst out of these evil people is the perfect revenge.

Before I get into the conclusion I just want to gush about the soundtrack really quickly. The score is made up of recent pop songs, new compositions , and appropriated tracks from spaghetti westerns. All of these fit the film amazingly, but the appropriation of music from other westerns feels so natural. I cannot imagine this film without them. From the title track ripped straight from the original Django film, to the end credits theme (my personal favorite), all of these songs are hand picked to compliment the mood of each scene.

Upon re-watching this film it's been elevated to one of the few films that I would consider perfect. The journey that this film takes you on is unlike anything that I've encountered in another movie so far. I would absolutely recommend this film to any and everyone. I acknowledge that this film isn't for everyone. The violence and subject matter may be a bit much for some. To those that can tolerate geysers of blood and uncomfortable subject matters I say give it ago. If you haven't watched this film already then what are you doing with your time. WATCH IT NOW!!

THE FOXBURY FILES EPISODE SEVEN PART THREE

Today, my dad is taking us to the country club about an hour away. It’s surprisingly not cold and snowy but nice there? Anyways, Micah and I wore matching outfits. We look so cute!! 

After we played a round of tennis (Micah is actually very good), we went in to have lunch with my dad and his friends. I’ll be honest, I hate most of them. They are the most narcissistic, pompous assholes on the planet. They all kiss up to my dad though.  

Blake: Hi daddy!  Quentin: Sweetie.  Quentin: Micah, loving the pink.  Micah: Blake made me wear this.  Quentin: I figured she did. She’s like her mother.  Micah: *Laughs*  Blake: Oh babe, you look so good in pink.  Micah: Well thank you.  Quentin: Here, our seats are right here.  Blake: I hope they bring our food soon. I feel kinda nauseous. 

We sit down and two of my dads friends join us. 

Thornton: Hey Quentin! I see you brought your daughter. She’s grown into such a beautiful young lady.  Quentin: Thank you Thornton.  David: Who are you, if I might ask?  Blake: This is Micah, my boyfriend.  Thornton: Nice to meet you son.  David: You aren’t from around here, are you?  Blake: Why would you ask that?  Quentin: Blake.  Micah: It’s okay. I’m from Oasis Springs. Thornton: Ah, the desert. I love vacationing out there. There’s some beautiful homes out there.  David: Are you from the neighborhoods with those homes or are you less fortunate?  Quentin: David, that’s very inappropriate. David: I’m just getting to know the kid. I wasn’t expecting your daughter to date someone like him.  Blake: Did you expect me to date a incompetent cokehead like your son Michael?  David: Excuse me?  Blake: How was rehab this time? Heard he went back for the 3rd time.  Quentin: Blake, that’s enough.  Blake: No, it’s not actually. I’m sick of you surrounding yourself with these assholes who look down on everyone. Your son is a crackhead and your wife is sleeping with YOUR assistant.  Thornton: Oh my god, I thought I saw them having dinner….  Blake: The women here are very loud when they whisper.  Blake: Let’s go, Micah.  Micah: Babe, it’s okay, I -  Blake: We are leaving. Let’s go. Please. 

Micah takes my hand and we leave the country club in an uber. I told you I hate this place. I’ll never bring Micah back here again. 

Once we get back to my house, we get comfy and go relax in the pool house. It's freezing outside, but the fireplace in the pool house makes it cozy, and I don’t want to be in the main house right now. I’m sure my dad is looking for me. 

*Jumps on the bed with Micah*

Micah: Why did you wanna stay out here? 

Blake: I didn't want to argue with my dad. I’m sure he’s upset at my behavior.  Micah: I’m not gonna lie, that was awesome babe.  Blake: I told you, I hate those men. All they do is judge others, when their life isn't picture perfect by a long shot.  Micah: So is his wife really sleeping with his assistant? Blake: Oh yeah, big time. She’s contemplating leaving him for the assistant.  Micah: Oh my god. Blake: Those ladies gossip A LOT. That’s why my mom doesn’t go.  Micah: You’re pretty hot when you’re mad….  Blake: Oh yeah? Micah: Absolutely… 

*There’s a knock at the door* 

Blake: Oh my god, I’m just trying to take my muscle relaxer! Micah: *Laughs* Micah: I’ll get it. 

Micah gets up to get the door. 

Micah: Hey Mr. Richardson.  Quentin: Hey son. Are you okay? Micah: Yeah, why? Quentin: I want to apologize for David’s comments. He should have never spoken to you like that. Micah: I appreciate that, Mr. Richardson.  Quentin: You can call me dad if you want, seeing my daughter is definitely planning to hold on to you. Micah: *Laughs* thanks, “dad.”  Quentin: See, it sounds perfect.  Quentin: Blake, you wanna come over here so I can talk to you….. Blake: *Sighs* Blake: I’m not apolo- Quentin: I’m sorry. 

Wait, I was expecting him to make me apologize… 

Quentin: You were right.  Blake: I was? Quentin: Yes. I truly shouldn't be hanging around men like David. They don’t align with my values.  Quentin: I know there’s been a few times where I have influenced you - Blake: Forced. Quentin: - You into acting a certain way around them. I shouldn’t have. I am sorry.  Blake: I appreciate that, daddy.  Quentin: I have someone who wants to talk to you, Micah.  Micah: Who?

Thornton walks in. 

Thornton: Hey Micah. I’m sorry about David’s behavior.  Micah: It’s cool. Not your fault.  Thornton: Quentin tells me you are a physics major.  Micah: I am.  Thornton: I wanted to talk to you about an internship at this company my son works for. Micah: An internship? I’m listening… Blake: I’ll let you guys talk. I’m gonna go grab something to soothe my stomach…

It was so nice for Thorton to come over and apologize. I actually don’t mind him. He’s always been pretty nice to me. I can’t wait to hear about the internship. That would be a great experience for him!

As for me, I am going to lay down. I have felt sick all day… Maybe it's something I ate at the club.
