The Queensland Air Museum in Caloundra, Queensland, is home to some impressive displays commemorating the Pathfinder Force in World War II. 133160 1954 Grumman S2-A Tracker ex US Navy Queensland Air Museum Caloundra 18.05.15 by Phil Rawlings Via Flickr: Built by Grumman in 1954 and accepted by the US Navy 30.07.54. Served at Quonset Point, Norfolk, Jacksonville, New York, Alameda and assigned to storage at Litchfield Park, 30.11.62. Purchased by the Australian Government 27.10.65 Ferry flight to San Diego and transported to Australia aboard freighter 'Australian Surf' and to Sydney. S-2A 133160 was transported to Hawker de Havilland at Bankstown in early 1967 for depreservation and inspection to determine its airworthiness. 04.05.67 cleared for a off flight with the undercarriage locked down. So successful was the test flight that it was decided to land at Nowra without returning to Bankstown. The S-2A was allotted to HMAS Nirimba, a training station at Schofields near Sydney where it was to be used as a Repair Procedure Fuselage. In view of this planned role, together with the requirement that it be transported through the streets of Sydney, the S-2A had its wings, engines, tail group and internal systems removed at Nowra. The resultant hulk was then transported from Jervis Bay to Sydney on HMAS Sydney, probably during 1970. Subsequently, the Sydney sailed for the U.S. to collect the second batch of Trackers, which reached Australia in July 1971. 21.09.70 the S-2A was noted at HMAS Nirimba having been transferred recently from Nowra. 13.07.88 purchased by David Bussey and donated to QAM where it arrived 16.06.90.
