Flowers made of orange skin. I'm nothing more than that. nothing more than the mints my grandma planted in her gardens, the pickles she made. a fragment of my parents as I bare their names. in shame most times

qsa is literally just a weekly update on my friends' pronouns. like we don't do anything we wouldn't do outside of qsa apart from introducing and saying our pronouns at the start of the meeting

I’m thinking about it so may as well let you all decide.
Context: I really want to start a qsa (queer-straight alliance) at my school and have for a few years. I recently asked admin about it after I had gotten some people who were interested and a teacher who agreed to be the supervisor. We even had a day picked. Unfortunately, my school is in a Catholic diocese and in case you don’t know what the laws are like here in the us, it’s up to each individual diocese to decide what they want to allow in the Catholic schools. And our diocese has policies that even the pope doesn’t agree with (gay people are bad, if you’re gay you’re going to hell, no gay in school, etc) so my request to admin was denied. However, the teacher that had agreed to oversee the qsa was put in charge of actually telling me this, and to quote her directly “frankly the diocese’s policies are fucking bullshit”. Anyway we love her. But this brings me to my question: should I just send a letter requesting the board of education to change this policy (we recently got a new bishop and he’s chill with the gays) or do I also send these grown ass adults hatemail?

there's just you, me a bowl full of summer peaches, two parentheses with nothing in between (just space) for the tongue's imagination" /end ID.]

ok but have we talked about transmasc!joel?
transmasc!joel, who found out he was pregnant with sarah, way too young and scared absolutely shitless
transmasc!joel, whose boyfriend left him when he came out, his baby girl not even a year old
transmasc!joel, whose baby brother may be an idiot, but that kid loves him and always has, and he sure as hell won't hear a bad word about his big bro
transmasc!joel, who had always been a tomboy growing up, navigating being a whole ass adult with a fully developed brain, finding comfort in his gender identity while doing everything he can not to let the scars of his adolescence affect sarah, letting her flourish however she will
transmasc!joel, who gives sarah the BIGGEST hug (and tries not to let her see the tear in his eye) when she casually mentions starting a GSA at her school
transmasc!joel, who's the heartthrob of the cul-de-sac, but surprisingly private when it comes to his dating life. but from the few bored housewives that he's had encounters with all agree, he sure knows how to get the job done (whether it's the one he's hired for or not)
transmasc!joel, who sees a whole lot of himself in his adopted kid, and if ever Ellie decides she wants to try out a different name or pronouns, he'll be right behind his kid in a way no one but tommy was for him

not having any friends or being in any clubs is so funny sometimes actually. my english professor is asking us to discuss discourse communities we're in (basically just groups where communication happens to promote a shared goal) AND a communication artifact (a visible way in which the group interacts) and i dont know how to be like hey. i dont have any of those. literally going to get a failing grade for not having friends.

The conservative student org at my school is having a very well known politician from my home state (which recently banned gender affirming healthcare for minors) come and give a talk about wokeness.
So you know I might just so happen to have been tearing down any of their fliers that I could find over the past few weeks. They have started adding more staples and pushpins but I cannot be deterred.
Now the hard part is going to be figuring out how to snag as many fliers from the people passing them out in order to make them run out faster.

A few years ago I was the president of a high school QSA. At one of our meetings, my co-president and I gathered a bunch of ads featuring LGBTQ+ people, including this one, and we watched them with the club. Same-sex couples featured in a few ads where they took the place a straight couple might have previously, without much comment, which was wonderful in itself, but the most touching ones were ads that featured trans people. Particularly ones like this, that featured feel-good family stories, about trans people being supported by their families. As one of the young people inheriting the world that generations before me have fought for, I can't fully appreciate the leaps and bounds that brought us to a world where stories like these are normalized enough to appear in advertising. But I'm grateful to everyone who fought for this world, so LGBTQ+ teens get to grow up seeing things like this.
Since I still have the links to the ads we watched, here's a few more for anyone who'd like to have some feelings:

(heads up for deadnaming in the one below--it's about a person finding & trying out their new name)
