[ad_1] File photo of the Indian cricket team© BCCIJitesh Sharma was one of the most consistent performers for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and his strike rate of 159.24 is currently the fifth highest overall for any batter with more than 500 runs in the competition. With Rishabh Pant sidelined due to injury, the Indian cricket team has been looking for a wicket-keeper batter to replace him and ahead of the West Indies tour, Jitesh's name was doing the rounds. However, the selection committee went with Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson as the options in white-ball cricket. In a recent interaction, Jitesh opened up about missing the cut."Just one sentence, 'God has a bigger plan for me'," Jitesh said in an interview with Cricket.com.Jitesh was a part of the India squad for the home series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. He opened up about his experiences with the side and what he learnt from head coach Rahul Dravid."They were quite welcoming. Rahul (Dravid) sir told me that you are doing very well and these are the kind of players that we are looking for. When I told him that I want to score big runs, he told me that at the position you play, runs don't matter, impact matters. The more you contribute towards the win, that will be important for the team. When there's a collapse and you go out to bat around 7-8 overs, the team will be 4-5 wickets down, so you can't do much and just need to believe in your game. You have to take that score to a certain level so that the team can fight for it," the wicket-keeper batter added.Topics mentioned in this article [ad_2] Source link

Massive prediction of Suresh Raina on this uncapped IPL star
In the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League 2023, a lot of uncapped Indian players are stepping up with their strong performances. Many players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nehal Wadhera, and Ayush Badoni are among those who have been giving impressive performances this season, and Punjab Kings Jitesh Sharma is also one of them. He has batted largely in the middle and lower middle order and has scored 260 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 160.49.
Suresh Raina, who is also an IPL expert, said while talking about Jitesh Sharma that "he's playing brilliantly in the middle order so far. He's made some important cameos. He's an aggressive player; he's already been a part of the Indian team, but yes, he can be a great middle-order player. His wicket keeping skills are good. He's really impressed everyone with the way he's batting. I'm sure the selectors would look at him again. His hitting abilities are really good, and you will see him a lot more in the future."

KKR vs PBKS Highlights, IPL 2023: Kolkata edge Punjab in a last-ball thriller to keep playoffs hopes alive
Shikhar Dhawan, captain of the Punjab Kings, won the toss and chose to bat first at Eden Gardens. Despite losing Prabhsimran Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Liam Livingstone during that time, they managed to score 58 runs while on the power play. Then, in the middle over, Dhawan and Jitesh Sharma put up a 53-run partnership for the third wicket, securing the a good score for Punjab in the KKR vs PBKS faceoff.
Dhawan defeated Nitish Rana of the KKR after scoring 57 out of 47. Up until the final two overs, when Shahrukh and Harpreet Brar significantly boosted PBKS’s performance, they had trouble building momentum. PBKS scored 179/7 after scoring 36 runs in those two overs, 21 of which came off the final one.
Brar had a score of 17 off 9, while Shahrukh had an unbeaten 21 off 8 score. In response, KKR struggled to get enough momentum throughout the powerplay, and as a result, they now need more than 50 runs to win in the final five overs. With three sixes in the 19th over, Andre Russell reversed the situation. Arshdeep Singh ensured that it came down to the final ball even though KKR suddenly only needed six to win off the last over. After that, Rinku Singh struck a four to help KKR cross the finish line.

[ad_1] NEW DELHI: Punjab Kings' batting coach Wasim Jaffer is quite impressed with the improvement made by Jitesh Sharma and believes that the wicket-keeper batter is almost ready to play for the Indian team. The 29-year-old Vidarbha 'keeper-batter, who was signed up for just Rs 20 lakh in IPL 2022 auction, has grabbed the opportunity in absence of an injured Jonny Bairstow this season with some eye-catching knocks."Of course, last year too he had a decent performance. I think he has become even better, his batting has improved, he's already a good wicketkeeper," Jaffer said on the eve of their match against Kolkata Knight Riders here. "I know him from Vidarbha days -- I played alongside him."Sharma, who was promoted to No. 5 against Mumbai Indians, played a key role in getting PBKS past the 200-mark four times in a row this season."It feels nice to see him grow so well as a batter and as a finisher, because he has batted at No. 5, 6 even 7 and whatever the team has demanded he has produced results against quality bowlers and teams. I feel he's almost ready to play for the Indian team," Jaffer said. There may be an opening in Team India's wicket-keeper's slot for the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup with Rishabh Pant likely to miss the two marquee events slated in September and October respectively. And, the Vidarbha cricketer has made all the right moves to grab the attention with his aggressive approach and stroke-making skills. He showed that against Mumbai Indians when he struck an unbeaten 49 off 27 balls in an entertaining partnership with Liam Livingstone.Sharma got a maiden national call up earlier this year when he was picked in the India T20 squad for the series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand but didn't get a game.Narine, one of the bestKKR's ace spinner Sunil Narine may be going through a difficult season but Jaffer said Narine is one of the best bowlers in the tournament and credit should be given to him for maintaining his 'mystery' for so long."These days so much data is available, the more you play, it becomes easier and easier. There's not much mystery left after you play two-three seasons."But, you got to give credit to Sunil Narine that his mystery has lasted a long time," he said of Narine who has bagged just seven wickets from 10 matches this season.Narine has played 12 seasons for KKR and was instrumental in their triumphs in 2012 and 2014."This season has not been the best for him, but he has been a quality performer. You still got to understand he has been one of the best bowlers who has played in the IPL."PBKS and KKR are lying on the seventh and eighth spots respectively in the 10-team standings and must win all their remaining four matches to keep their playoff hopes alive."We can't think of four games at a time. The situation is obviously different in every game. We have to look to do our best in every game. We came close to winning a lot of games that we lost. It's about taking one game at a time," Jaffer said about their approach. The 2023 season has witnessed most totals of 200-plus scores and Jaffer feels "it's just about good batting conditions.""With dew batting becoming a little easier. Also the Impact Player rule makes the batters bat fearlessly," Jaffer said.KKR mood upbeat: AroraHaving snatched a thrilling five-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep their playoff hopes alive, the mood in the KKR camp is upbeat, feels their seamer Vaibhav Arora."We won the last match by a close margin, it has boosted the confidence," Arora, who claimed 2 for 32 against SRH, said.KKR still have to win all their four remaining matches to remain in contention for a playoff berth."Rinku Bhai (against Gujarat Titans) showed that we can win from any situation. So we are not down on confidence. We're taking one game at a time."Senior pacer Umesh Yadav has been a big letdown for them with just one wicket to his name from eight matches. But it does not put Arora under any extra pressure."I've no pressure. It's an opportunity for me to prove. It's about giving your best and proving yourself," Arora said.
