Puerto Madryn Cruise Port, Argentina: Located on the northern coast of Argentina’s Patagonia region, Puerto Madryn is the gateway to Valdes Peninsula, a popular marine wildlife viewing destination. The peninsula is home to a large population of the endangered southern right whales, dolphins, elephant seals, penguins, and more. Puerto Madryn is also a jumping-off point for exploring Punta Tombo, Argentina’s largest colony of Magellanic penguins. Travelers arriving at the Puerto Madryn cruise port often head out on a full-day excursion to the Punta Tombo Penguin Preserve

Sunday, January 1, 2023 - at sea
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a lovely sea day to sleep in - gloomy and a little rainy first thing, although the sun did come out in time for a lavish brunch, and we were finally able to eat outside again and be comfortable. We've eaten on the deck whenever possible, but often we're the only diners out there. Today it was actually crowded. We've left the cold ocean behind, along with a lot of the sea birds, and temperatures should be pleasant tomorrow in Montevideo.
We saw another show in the planetarium dome this afternoon on the edges of the universe. It was 3D, and quite good, although since it was about 10 years old, the Webb telescope was mentioned as a coming thing, and I'm sure has expanded our knowledge greatly since this film was completed. It did focus a lot on the Atacama Desert, and the telescopes there.
I also learned something new about Bluetooth, or at least where the name came from. It's named for Harald Bluetooth, a Viking king from the 10th century (we can only guess where he got his name from). The symbol for Bluetooth is actually a combination of the runic letters for "H" and "B". He unified a lot of Scandinavia, so maybe that was the inspiration for connecting devices and unifying them. Maybe.
We also had a "slide" show that our photography lecturer had put together from pictures passengers had taken during the cruise. Everyone was invited to submit one photo, and he only received about 25, a small number considering the number of folks who had attended his lectures and workshops. There were lots of shots of penguins, and some sunsets, but also interesting abstract shots around the ship. We gotten to be friends with Roger and his wife, and he does these programs on various ships and lines. He's very low key, but also encouraging to those trying to move beyond cellphone snaps. His own photography was inspiring.
We've started packing up a bit since we have ports the next two days and want to enjoy them. This trip has been a wonderful combination of very interesting places, and informative programs on sea days, as well as relaxation time in the spa, and too much good food. We'll be on our own again shortly, which will be a change.
A note on the post from Puerto Madryn - I forgot I had included a picture of the crumbling concrete at the visitor center. It's another example of poor maintenance of what were once nice amenities.

Just how To Survive on A Cruise Liner Part Time
There has actually been a lot of buzz lately about residing on a Cruise liner full time as a different to staying in a retirement community. However, I do not believe it would certainly be really exciting after about 6 months or two. Ships, also Cruise Ships, are loud for at least 2 factors: 1. Engine Sound. Despite just how brand-new the ship, no matter what new generator engines the ship might have, the 24 hour engine noise might get to individuals. 2. Events, bars and also dining establishments. There is constantly a type of event ambience on a Cruise liner, individuals consume excessive, nobody informs them when to go to bed, they don't have to rise the next morning, so, parties make sounds. It obtains dull looking at the ocean 2 out of 3 days. Although ship's activities are very many these days, eventually you'll get burnt out with them. Cabins in general are extremely tiny, so eventually you're mosting likely to miss your huge living room on the mainland with its 75" TV. Nevertheless, if 6 months are also long, there are various other options; Cruise maybe a couple of months a year. If you adhere to that action things come to be interesting. Here are some choices: The Monthly $18,000 course: Residensea, the globe's only drifting Condominium, a 47,000 heap cruise liner which cruises the seas, apparently uses staterooms for lease for as reduced as $18,000 per month. This Cruise Ship has designer apartments with initial art. I mean, this is high-end manifested. Great if you can obtain it. Around the globe in 102 Days. By tiny Luxury Cruise Ship In 2005 a journey around the world lasting 110 days can be had for as reduced as $15,600 each. That is $150 each daily consisting of food as well as all centers. That is $9000 per couple each month. This same pair would certainly invest a minimum of $4000 a month in a seniors house. So going on this 3 1/2 month Globe Cruise ship would certainly cost them $9000 - $4000 = $5000 per month. Now allow me tell you what this $5000 for 2 individuals obtains them: The Plan: Southampton, Tenerife - Canary Islands St Vincent - Cape Verde Islands Fortaleza - Brazil Rio de Janeiro - Brazil Montevideo - Uruguay Buenos Aires - Argentina Puerto Madryn - Argentina Port Stanley - Falkland Islands Cruise around Cape Horn Ushuaia - Argentina Transportation Beagle Network Punta Arenas - Chile Chacabuco - Chile Puerto Montt - Chile Santiago - Chile Cruise by Easter Island Cruise by Pitcairn Island Papeete - Tahiti Bora Bora - Culture Islands Pago Pago - American Samoa Lautoka - Fiji Islands Noumea - New Caledonia Brisbane - Australia Sydney - Australia Eden - Australia Philip Island - Australia Melbourne - Australia Hobart -Australia Transportation Milford Audio Dunedin - New Zealand Christchurch - New Zealand Transportation Marlborough Audio Wellington - New Zealand Auckland - New Zealand Nuku 'Alofa - Tonga Apia - Western Samoa Christmas Island Honolulu - Oahu, Hawaii Kahalui - Maui, Hawaii Los Angeles - U.S.A. Acapulco - Mexico Huatulco - Mexico Transportation Panama Canal Curacao - Dutch Antilles Margherita Island - Venezuela Barbados Ponta Delgada The High-end: This gets on a very glamorous Cruise Ship that has only outdoors or balcony cabins. By Truck
Tumblr media
In 2005 a trip around the world lasting 102 days by different freighting firms can be had for $11,750 per person. That is $117 each daily including food and all facilities. That is $7000 per couple per month. This exact same couple would certainly invest a minimum of $4000 a month in an old folks home. So taking place this 3 1/2 month Globe Cruise ship would cost them $7000 - $4000 = $3000 each month. For this you get a double collection with dual occupancy. Port Times array from 1 to 2 days. The advantage seems to be that there is great deals of room in 4 dual suites. The dual collections all consist of two areas, a room with twin beds and also a living room. The cabins have showers. Each cabin likewise has its own VCR as well as TELEVISION screen as well as refrigerator. On https://www.liveinternet.ru/users/beach_guerrero/post454089859 are a personal guest lounge and the sharing of the policemans' table There is likewise an interior swimming pool. Cruise ship Hopping This is less expensive yet. There are great deals of 7 day cruises for around $100 each day per passenger. So you can possibly take 7 day cruise ships constantly in the exact same area, state, the Caribbean, on the same ship, or on different ships till you get ill as well as sick of the area. You can after that do the same point from the West Coastline. Logistics would certainly be harder since you might need an area to remain every 7th evening. Price cut Cruising Reliable in 2005 there is currently a discount rate European Cruise Line running in the Caribbean that charges $46 per person per night yet you have to obtain your own food. Optimum time they allow you to cruise ship is 2 weeks. Still, can't get any kind of cheaper than this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA8kP33Eaok

Puerto Madryn – January 16
I missed my bus to Calenta Valdes this morning. Guess my mind was on beach time. Oh well, manana.
After getting back from the bus terminal, took a walk on the beach. It was low tide and instead of jellyfish there were hundreds of little shrimp like creatures washed up on the shore and also in the surf. When you picked them up they would wiggle furiously. You will see them in my photos. A cruise ship pulled into port this morning. Saw about sixty to eighty people lined up waiting on the street waiting to return to the ship.
Turns out all the guys in the berets were Gouchos (sp?). It is the equivalent to waring a cowboy hat in Argentina. Should have known by the boots.
Looking forward to seeing elephant seals, sea lions, penguins, and park rangers.
