the first time I came here it was hailing hard, like meteors, or dead buzzards tumbling from the wires between telephone-poles. this trivial place at the edge of suburbia-- this is where people come to find meaning. I can sense God here. I know it simply because they know it. Collective consciousness at the Dunwoody Hobby Lobby. It's either turning on my heel, or it's joining the mob, getting out the trusty pitchfork.

THESIS DONE
it’s done, sorry i didn’t really do any updates lol
my movie posters for Preacher’s Daughter, the lovely debut album by @mothercain, are finally done ahhhh!! here they are! (sorry for low res tumblr is being weird about file sizes idk)
Tumblr media
as you can see, together they form a frame for a cross that will hang on the wall between them, this way each piece can not only stand on its own but be placed together as a cohesive unit.
Tumblr media
American Teenager, the song I chose to represent the opening act of Preacher’s Daughter. I looked at a bunch of coming-of-age movies and Andrew Wyeth
Tumblr media
Thoroughfare made the most sense for me to be the song to represent what I consider the second act. I looked at a lot of western movie posters, and california desert sunsets for this one. it’s the most standout imo, in terms of color treatment which is cool i guess.
Tumblr media
The third act, where Isaiah does his evil deeds to Ethel is represented by Ptolomaea in my mind. I wanted to have a slashe/thriller feel to this one, akin to early Scream and Carrie posters. A huge emphasis on the eye, and its reflection, was important for this.
Tumblr media
and lastly, Strangers felt most encompassing of the album’s ending to me. This one was a bit tricky to pin down to a genre, since i had the concept in mind from the start. I decided to look at horror, more specifically psychological horrors like Silent Hill and a lot of body horror as well. I wanted it to feel like Ethel was simultaneously at peace and in distress, to address both her spiritual and physical fates.
These are going on display next week im super excited! Thank you so much Hayden for your inspiring music, I really hope I did you proud!!!! Also I stole the fake castings from her fancast lol...

Okay, reaching out because I've exhausted all my ideas @mothercain.
At the very end of Ptolomaea, you can hear what sounds like a man speaking Portuguese saying "Ligue para... um oito oito oito, nove nove nove, sete quatro oito oito" which translates to "Call 1-888-999-7488". Me, @uglymothwife, and @snaileggs have tried to figure out what this number means but we've just found that it might be a debt collection agency based in America, and it might just be some guy who lives in California.
What is this? Is it just some random radio noise? Help.

singing along to ptolomaea (particularly the bloodcurdling scream) won’t fix what’s wrong with me, but it would help.

The transmasc experience of loving Ethel Cain but being afraid of the fandom because of how easily valid and correct interpretations of her work (for instance, calling Ptolomaea a song that "sounds like what it's like to be afraid of a man") can veer into radfem and TERF rhetoric.
As a trans man I share so many of the sentiments she expresses in her music, but will fellow fans see me as an outsider, a predator, a villain?
Am I Ethel to them, or am I Isaiah?
