Creepy Nightmares and Hallucinations
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Yes it’s late but I figured I would share some of my creepy nightmares and hallucinations I’ve had since people tell me that they are a bit abnormal and creep them out. I am not lying these are true and despite some of them happening when I was younger I remember the details like I had the dream just the night before.
If you have had similar dreams add yours!
1. The Recurring Spider Dream
So I think a lot of people are afraid of spiders, me included (despite me finding them utterly beautiful and fascinating) but I don’t have anything near a phobia, yet throughout my life I have this recurring dream that pops up out of nowhere every now and then that leaves me unable to go back to sleep easily. It starts out with me lying in bed trying to go to sleep, and right when I feel like I’m about to drift off I feel something. I lift up my sheets and there are millions of tiny spiders in massive clusters just crawling up my bed on my legs, arms everything. I thrash so wildly that I wake up sobbing or yelling while trying to desperately get the spiders off. It often takes me a fair bit of time to recognize it was a dream and I usually physically leap out of bed and examine it before getting back in. But then I get those phantom twinges you get when you look at bugs that make you feel like they are on you so I don’t really get to sleep for awhile.
2. “Something’s inside of me” Dream
The lighting was yellowy, much like regular house lights but with a slight green tint and a de-saturation to it that just feels wrong. It started out as me talking with my mum. Then suddenly, I am in another perspective at the bottom of my stairs slowly ascending. The perspective from it’s point of view is lower than a human’s, as if it’s crawling on all fours or something unnatural. It flashes back to me and my mother chatting and getting ready for bed. I’m then back in the other’s vision halfway up the stairs. I’m then heading to the bathroom. The thing is now at the top of the stairs rounding the corner. I head into the bathroom and look into the mirror and my eyes look... sickly, glazed over and almost dead. My expression is one of.... weirdly exaggerated... discontent/terror? I say:
“Something’s inside of me”
And then I woke up.
3. The Figure in the Doorway: Dream? Hallucination?
I remember distinctly once looking up from my bed to the bedroom door and swearing that someone was there. It was a vague shadow and they looked back-lit, which made sense. So at first I thought it was my dad.
“Dad?” I called out. It did not respond. “....Dad is that you?” I asked again to no response. I pause a moment and then thought well maybe mom.
“Mom?” No response. So finally I asked. “Who’s there?” To which it seems to... dissipate. Similar to how if you look into something bright and look away you see the image but as you blink it slowly goes away as if it were never there. It started to disappear from the head down I think.
I went to sleep after. I never knew if it was just a hallucination or something I dreamed up. I remember it as if it actually happened but the brain is funny and my brain has mistaken a dream for reality for YEARS. Literally I asked my mom earlier this year about an event I swore was real for over ten years and she said that it never happened. And thinking back on it she really was out of character so a dream only made sense.
4. The Girl Beside my Bed: Hallucination
Fevers create some of the most bizarre dreams and hallucinations. One time when I was running a high fever and had intense nausea I woke up semi conscious and looked over the bed to see what looked to be a girl who was sort of there and sort of not in a white and.... red? Frilly dress with white bows working on what looked like homework or sheet music. I was frightened so I turned away and shut my eyes and forced myself back to sleep.
