On this day, 22 March 2009, prison riots were sparked in Greece after the death of prison activist, Katerina Goulioni on March 18. Inmates in the women's prison in Thebes refused to return to their cells, set fires and destroyed property, while protesters outside the prison clashed with riot police (content note: sexual violence). 200 inmates in Athens also held a protest in solidarity. Goulioni (pictured) was a prominent incarcerated activist, who had campaigned against lack of facilities for physically disabled prisoners, prison transfers in which many prisoners suspiciously died, and vaginal inspections which she termed "informal rape". She died while being transferred by boat to a prison on the island of Crete. While the Ministry of Justice claimed she died of a heart attack, other prisoners on the boat reported that Goulioni had been forced to sit alone, 15 seats behind everyone else with her hands tied behind her back, and that her face showed signs of a beating. In the wake of the rebellion, the government promised a review of vaginal inspection methods, and other prison conditions. Goulioni's fellow inmates sent the press the following goodbye statement: "All your life was full of thirst. Thirst for struggle and justice. You fought for all and for everything without care for the consequences. And at the end the consequences of your struggles rewarded you in the worse of manners, with a violent, unexpected sudden death. But we are still here, Katerina, and we shall remember you and continue the struggle you began. You are everywhere. We sense you and we thank you for taking care of us. Crown Princess Victoria's house on Värmdö is finished
Large windows facing the sea, a sunny dock and a heated pool in the garden. Villa Fågelbro is now ready for two future Swedish queens. The Crown Princess family has already spent a weekend in their private paradise on Värmdö.
The house is beautifully nestled in greenery on a small hill. Large oaks and birches form a natural privacy screen. The leaves rustle invitingly from the crowns, and the smell of forest and freshly cut lawn is lovely.
A stone's throw away is Fågelbro Golf & Country Club, but hardly any golfers on the course notice the 2.5-meter-high fence surrounding Victoria and Daniel's lot.
Here, it is intended that Crown Princess Victoria and her family will be able to be completely private and free from prying eyes. When they want to experience archipelago life, barefoot days, and a cup of morning coffee on the front porch, the house in Värmdö is their focal point.
The family has stayed overnight in the house
Victoria and Daniel bought the property in 2020 and own it together. They paid 18 million SEK and received a building permit and beach protection dispensation from Värmdö municipality in the spring of 2021. Nacka Värmdö Posten was the first to report.
There used to be an older house from the 1930s on the plot. It has been demolished, and in its place, a modern and airy home has been built with large windows facing the sea and four-meter-high ceilings.
The Margen Wigow architectural office designed the buildings, the same office that developed the Crown Princess couple's house, Villa Skönvik, on Solliden in 2013. The facade is painted with iron vitriol, which will turn grey over time. The new home has been named Villa Fågelbro.
In December 2023, the house was finally inspected, and the family got the OK to move in, but it is only now that they have tried to live there. The Crown Princess family spent a weekend in the house, according to information given to Aftonbladet. But it is something the Royal Court does not want to comment on.

Linus Andreen is married to the Crown Princess's close friend Märta Schörling Andreen, the heiress of the financier Melker Schörling, who, until his death, was one of Sweden's wealthiest people and was close to the King and Queen.
HM heir Nils "Nisse" Tham and his wife Félice Jankell also have a summer house in the area. Nils Tham is one of Sweden's youngest billionaires and is the son of HM's primary owner, Lottie Tham. According to Expressen, the house was bought for 55 million SEK in 2016, and several millions have been spent on renovations and extensions.
Solar panels on the roof
Not all the groundwork is finished yet, and there is still some work to be done with the various houses on the plot, but most of it is finished. Daily Drabbles for 10/6/24 - 10/10/24
10/6/24 Jim saw Kerri cut through the field. Nobody else was looking. The field was lined on all sides by tall trees and bushes growing closely together, so once Kerri had passed by them she was out of view. It was a good shortcut, even if they weren't supposed to enter the field. The man who owned it had often complained about kids cutting across his property. Supposedly it was full of snakes. Jim had never seen any, and apparently Kerri wasn't too concerned about them either. Still, she was taking a bit of a risk, cutting across the forbidden field.
10/7/24 Ashley stood up and brushed the dirt off her pants. The fall hadn't harmed her any, though she did now need to pick dried leaves out of her hair. Thumper had disappeared around a bend in the trail leaving Ashley all alone. Having removed the detritus of the forest floor from herself, she started up the trail after her horse. As soon as he realized Ashely wasn't on his back anymore he'd stop and wait for her. Ashley just wished he'd turn around and come back looking for her. He never did though. Just stopped where he was and waited.
10/8/24 Evie popped a purple grape in her mouth. For some reason the darker grapes always made her tongue feel fuzzy. The darker the grape, the stronger the reaction. Yellow and green grapes did it to her too, sometimes anyway, and never as strongly, but red and purple grapes were the main perpetrators. The fuzzy feeling never lasted long. And Evie never experienced any other side effects from eating grapes. Still, knowing that it was probably some kind of allergic reaction, Evie often wondered if she should even be eating grapes. She grabbed another grape and popped it in her mouth.
10/9/24 Hugh hummed a tune to himself as he mixed the cookie batter. Bentley sat on top of the fridge and intently watched all Hugh's doings. Whenever Hugh added a new ingredient, he made sure to let Bentley inspect it first. He held up the box of baking powder for the cat to sniff briefly before he measured out the requisite tablespoon's worth of the substance to add to the batter. Hugh enjoyed baking. He hadn't had much cause to before Victoria had come into his life and he was grateful for the opportunity. It was so very normal after all.
10/10/24 Cholo grabbed an apple and took a big bite out of it. It was crisp and juicy, just the way he liked them. Ana didn't care for apples. Not unless they were baked into something. Peaches were her fruit of choice. Unfortunately, they didn't often get the chance to buy peaches. They had more apples than they could possibly eat though. It was good that Cholo liked apples. He could eat several a day. Ana was always baking with them. Making all kinds of pies, pastries, cakes, cobblers, and even breads for them to eat, but mostly to give away.
