Adam Tooze giving some pitch-perfect pornography targeted at me specifically with Israel's "Gaza 2035: A three-step master plan to build what they call the Gaza-Arish-Sderot Free Trade Zone", capped with an AI generated Gaza-Dubai:
Tumblr media
I'm in love, this is so glorious. "The world if Israel could play around with Gaza like a little set of Legos" tell me this is not identical energy:
Tumblr media
Except its not a shitpost its an actual report from the Office of the Prime Minister. And folks we have got it all! The most convoluted administration system you could possibly imagine for no reason:
The new free trade zone would be administered by Israel, Egypt, and what the Israeli Prime Minister calls the Gaza Rehabilitation Authority (GRA)—a proposed Palestinian-run agency that would oversee reconstruction in Gaza and “manage the Strip’s finances.”
A cutesy little minimalist graphic of all the brand new industries that will magically become globally competitive in export markets because Israel says so:
Tumblr media
The beach resorts are in my beloved!! But what are the little factories you ask? Oh nothing, just electric car production facilities!
Tumblr media
Remember, before building your first factory, you need 18 Burj Khalifas. We economists call this "infrastructure development", take notes.
It will have high-speed rail through its center, oil projects on the coast, and of course, I'm saving the best for last - a rail project to NEOM:
Tumblr media
 🥳The Line 🥳Mentioned 🥳
The legend on the map literally just says "a mega project" like, oh yeah, one of those! See em all the time.
Now, you might be asking - Ash, if this is your goal wouldn't you have not destroyed every square inch of habitable urban infrastructure in Gaza and shredded their economy into scraps of paper soaked in blood if your plan was to Singapore-on-the-Sea the place? You sweet summer child, those apartments? They are apartments of the past, darling, you don't need organically developed urban ecologies built over time to compliment human habitation. That is for fucking libs. All of this "war" thing was just set-up to create a blank slate for the construction of The Line 2: Its Definitely Real This Time!
I am going to murder James C Scott myself just so I can hover this plan over his corpse and watch the sheer hubris of this monument to the state's desire for legibility and technocratic solutionism resurrect him from the goddamn grave.
"Well....at least after all this they would have to recognize Palestine as a stat-" Woah woah woah woah, hold on:
The final stage would be when Palestine signs the Abraham Accords signaling “Palestinian self-rule,” albeit without statehood
Lets not...lets not get overambitious here. Baby steps, you know? We have to be careful.
Anyway this is the most ludicrously ill-considered and ill-presented reconstruction plan I have ever seen in my life and I shudder to think that, instead of it being an off-hand drip of propaganda intended solely to brush off nosey reporters and diplomats, it might actually be serious. Bibi hasn't let me down yet on the "thinking things through" front!
But tbc if this was fiction - instead of a ruthlessly grim reality - the Regional Deputy Minister of Trade charged with implementing this technocratic abortion would be my precious little blorbo and I would stan her to hell and back.

Devil's Minion Rec List (Part 1)
So I recently completed a little project I set myself-- to tag and organize all of my (iwtv) A03 bookmarks. I've never been motivated to this before, but there are SO many talented writers in the Devil's Minion tag and I had bookmarked so many things that it was becoming unruly. Devil's Minion is such a fun fandom space to be, because writers are taking inspiration from the book and the show, creating AUs, writing old Daniel/young Daniel/vampire Daniel, assuming the 1970s/80s Devil Minion era did or didn't happen... there are endless variations and it's such a creative space. So it was fun to go through and sort all of the fics I like into different categories. It was also great distraction during a personally stressful time when my disability was making it hard to type and work on my own fics. And now of course that personally stressful time has become a nationally stressful time. I was initially going to write a bunch of different rec lists, each with their own topic/themes, and I probably still will do that eventually. But I thought I would start with a list of some of my all time faves in case you need some sweet vampire escapism in the wake of the horrible election results this week.
cranefucker island circa ‘82
by katplanet/ @gatoplanet
Word count: 22,365
Rating: explicit
Summary/Why I'm recommending it: This is an interactive fic, where clicking through different highlighted words takes you to different parts of the story. I love stories that use interactive or found media, and the nonlinear structure of this one perfectly captures the way that older Daniel recovers his memory of the Devil's Minion era. The individual scenes are also so beautifully written. (The one where young Daniel realizes that Armand can fly is etched into my brain).
Eighty Proof and a Lifetime
by doztoevsky
Word count: 11,003
Rating: Mature
Summary/Why I'm Recommending it: There are so many great "what happened after Dubai/How was Daniel Turned" fics out there, and I have to say that my favorite subgenre is "Daniel goes home to New York as a human and Armand follows him." (I guess I'm biased since I am also writing one these!) This is one of my favorites, largely for it's mix of lighthearted scenes and heartfelt emotions and the perfect amount of simmering sexual tension, and for all it manages to accomplish in a relatively short word count/single chapter. The image of Armand breaking down Daniel's bathroom door and using it to create a temporary coffin lid over his bathtub is so endearing and memorable to me, and there's a scene in a vampire bar that I think is just *chefs kiss* in terms of creative world building, character development, and spice level.
Unmade
Words by Klimppisoppa, Illustrations by @verimuru
Word count: 22,483
Rating: Mature
Summary/Why I'm Recommending it: This is largely based on book canon, with some TV show character flavor thrown in. What if Armand made up his mind to win Daniel back after Daniel went to live with Marius? Armand and Daniel's reconciliation is so gentle and lovely in this fic, and it really lets both characters develop a sense of agency as they separate themselves from Marius. It also has some really beautiful illustrations.
i'll ask for more time (but mother forgive me)
by @ignorethepineapples
Word Count: 3,512
Rating: Mature
Summary/Why I'm Recommending it: I think this is my all time favorite Devil's Minion fic. It's a shorter fic that uses a nonlinear structure to tie together Armand and Daniel's turning and it is achingly beautiful. The author has decided that the illness that nearly killed Armand before Marius turned him was syphilis, which can have Parkinson's like tremors as a symptom. The author connects Amadeo's illness with the AIDS crisis that was ongoing during the first part of Armand and Daniel's relationship with older Daniel's Parkinson's. This fic is heavier than some others on this list, but it is so cathartic and wonderful. I felt like this author reached inside my brain and pulled out the exact reasons these characters are important to me. It made me cry but also felt like the most healing of hugs, if that makes any sense at all.
Backroads to Sonoma
by burntcrimson
Word Count: 16,409
Rating: Mature
Summary/Why I'm recommending it: It's the 1980s, and a closeted Daniel is road tripping across middle America, surviving on gas station food and interviewing run aways and truckers to try to scrape together enough stories for a book. He picks up the hitchhiking Armand, who has a dangerous secret, and offers to drive him to California.
This fic is technically incomplete (one chapter remaining!) but the first four are SO GOOD it absolutely doesn't matter and you need to read it. This is a human AU, which I am not always into, but this author does such a good job of capturing Daniel and Armand's characterization and still maintaining Armand's aura of otherness and danger that it totally works. I honestly think this author could file the serial numbers off of this and expand it into it's own novel. The world building is so evocative, and the pacing perfectly balances Daniel's developing feelings for Armand with dramatic plot developments.
Ok, that's what I've got for you for now. If you want to check out my own Devil's Minion fics they're here. If you want to sort through my now gloriously organized bookmarks for yourself to find something to read you can do that here. Or send me an ask if there's something Devil's Minioned flavored you're craving-- maybe I'll have a personalized rec for you.
Feel free to reblog and add your own recs or reply in comments if you have a fic you think I should read. I am going to try to do more of these soon!
Also if you are one of these authors or know their tumblrs, let me know and I'll tag them.

thoughts and ramblings and opinions about the indian wells draw:
wta:
despite being the number one seed, iga has a pretty rough draw that is eerily similar to her ao draw. collins, noskova, and of course her nemesis ostapenko are all lurking in her quarter. ons jabeur is also there, but her form hasn’t been great lately and I highly doubt she can get past ostapenko. all that said, indian wells is not the ao. this surface favors iga a lot more, and she won in 2022. plus, she’s coming off of some great results in doha and dubai, so I wouldn’t count her out by any means. it’ll be tough, but it’s definitely not impossible
on the other side of that half, elena’s draw is looking pretty good. she’s the defending champion, but I doubt she’s one to let the pressure of defending get to her. there’s the potential of paula badosa in the second round, but I honestly don’t know if paula is even playing, so that might not matter. there’s no one in elena’s draw that she can’t beat, but her health is always a wild card and if her body doesn’t hold up I could see maybe paolini or haddad maia pulling off the upset. marketa is in this quarter too, but she’s been all over the place lately. if she’s in-form, then I have no doubt she can make a dent but that’s a massive if
coco’s draw is pretty decent. she seems to have mastered playing to her seed and is really good and pulling off a win even if she isn’t playing her best. she had an upset in dubai, but that did give her some time to train and hopefully work out some of the errors. her draw looks fairly simple until a potential meeting with naomi in the fourth round, but I wouldn’t say that’s super likely unless naomi has really made some strides in the last few weeks. I could see naomi losing to samsonova, but you never know! from there, the quarterfinal matchup would most likely be qinwen, which could be a great match of two pretty similar styles
much like the ao, aryna’s draw is basically the opposite of iga’s. the top 10 opponents in her draw are pegula, who just lost a match from a 5-1 lead, and sakkari, who is, well, sakkari. this should be an easy path to the semis, and I’m sure aryna really wants to go deep in this tournament after losing early in dubai
as for the projected semifinals: iga finally got the better of elena in doha, but that doesn’t guarantee victory at all. I think if they do play it’ll be a really close match. if aryna and coco play, I would probably pick aryna to win that unless coco can minimize the forehand errors
interesting round 1 matchups: giorgi/boulter, blinkova/pliskova,
atp:
really easy draw for novak here. he’s projected to meet tommy paul in the fourth round with no big challenges before that, and that’s not exactly a challenging match for him either. in qfs he’ll have one of ruud, norrie, and hurkacz, all of whom he can beat. I think it’ll probably be casper, since hubi’s serve is pretty useless on this extremely slow surface and norrie has been in a slump lately
poor daniil is stuck in an absolute nightmare quarter. he’s got his kryptonite korda in round three and dimitrov in the fourth round. meanwhile, the bottom half of this quarter has rune, nadal, and indian wells fritz, who is generally much better than regular fritz. honestly, anyone could come out of this quarter and face novak in the semis. if daniil makes it, massive kudos to him
jannik has somehow managed to pull rublev in the quarterfinals yet again, which is a match completely on his racket. he will probably play shelton in the fourth round, but ben’s serve will be pretty neutralized on this surface and I have no doubt jannik will take advantage of that. the only thing that can stop jannik right now is himself, so he has to deal with the pressure of being where he is right now. if he does that, then this quarter is his to lose
and finally, the last quarter, which is just as stacked - if not more - as the second quarter. carlos is gonna have a hell of a time trying to defend his title, with faa, khachanov, and jarry all in his section. I would be shocked if the top half of this quarter doesn’t get swept by adm, who is in the form of his life. zverev sucks on slow hardcourts, and I wouldn’t be surprised at draper or griekspoor pulling off an upset. and in the qfs, we could see a battle for jannik’s heart between carlos and alex…
projected semifinals: like I said, I’d be surprised if daniil makes it there, but he’s done crazier shit before so who knows. that being said, if he gets through that draw and has to face an in-form novak on one of his least favorite surfaces, I wouldn’t favor him. however, if novak is in his ao semi form and is playing just okay, daniil definitely has a chance. and of course, the big one, a possible sincaraz match. I love carlos, but I would be really surprised if he managed to beat jannik right now, especially with the injury concerns
interesting round 1 matchups: sonego/kecmanovic, monfils/purcell, raonic/nadal (I can’t believe this is real), van assche/arnaldi

How to Get a Real Estate License in Dubai?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Introduction
Dubai's real estate sector is renowned for its dynamic and lucrative opportunities. Whether you aspire to be a real estate agent, broker, or property manager, acquiring a real estate license is crucial to establishing yourself as a professional in the industry.
What is a Real Estate License?
A real estate license is an official authorization granted by the Dubai Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) that allows individuals to legally operate in the real estate market. It serves as proof of your competence and knowledge in the field, ensuring that you adhere to the industry's regulations and ethical standards.
Importance of a Real Estate License
Obtaining a real estate license in Dubai offers numerous advantages. It not only enhances your credibility and professionalism but also provides you with access to exclusive opportunities and resources. With a license, you can legally represent clients, broker property transactions, and benefit from the industry's vast networking and support systems.
Types of Real Estate Licenses
In Dubai, there are three primary types of real estate licenses:
Real Estate Agent License: This license allows you to work as a sales agent representing buyers or sellers in real estate transactions.
Real Estate Broker License: With this license, you can establish and manage your own real estate brokerage firm.
Real Estate Developer License: This license is required for individuals or companies involved in developing real estate projects.
Requirements for a Real Estate License
To qualify for a real estate license in Dubai, you must meet certain criteria. The specific requirements may vary depending on the type of license you are seeking. However, some common prerequisites include:
Being at least 21 years old
Having a high school diploma or equivalent
Passing a criminal background check
Completing a pre-license course approved by RERA
Demonstrating proficiency in Arabic and English languages
Providing a valid passport and visa copies
Submitting a licensing application along with the required fees
Step-by-Step Guide to Getting a Real Estate License
Now, let's walk you through the step-by-step process of obtaining a real estate license in Dubai:
Step 1: Research the Licensing Process
Before diving into the licensing process, it's essential to gather comprehensive information about the requirements, procedures, and responsibilities associated with the desired license type. Researching and understanding the process will help you navigate it more smoothly.

Step 2: Complete a Pre-License Course
To enhance your knowledge and skills in the real estate field, you need to enroll in and successfully complete a pre-license course approved by RERA. These courses provide in-depth training on various aspects of the real estate industry, including legal regulations, property valuation, marketing strategies, and ethical practices. By investing your time and effort in these courses, you will acquire the necessary expertise required to excel in your real estate career.
Step 3: Submit Application and Fees
After completing the pre-license course, it's time to submit your licensing application to RERA. Ensure that you have all the required documents, such as your educational certificates, identification proofs, and passport and visa copies. Additionally, you will need to pay the prescribed fees along with your application. It's crucial to double-check the accuracy of your application and ensure that you've provided all the necessary information to avoid any delays in the processing.
Step 4: Pass the Licensing Exam
Once your application is reviewed and approved, you will be eligible to appear for the real estate licensing exam. This exam evaluates your understanding of the real estate industry, local regulations, and best practices. Study diligently and prepare yourself for the exam by referring to the recommended study materials and resources. Acing the licensing exam is a significant milestone in your journey towards obtaining a real estate license.
Step 5: Obtain Sponsorship
In Dubai, it is mandatory to have a sponsorship arrangement with a licensed real estate company or brokerage to operate as a real estate professional. Seek out reputable firms that align with your career goals and approach them to secure sponsorship. Having a sponsor not only fulfills a legal requirement but also offers mentorship and support as you embark on your real estate journey.
Step 6: Apply for the Real Estate License
Once you have secured sponsorship, it's time to apply for the real estate license. Collaborate with your sponsoring company to prepare the necessary documentation and submit the application to RERA. The application should include details such as your sponsorship agreement, proof of passing the licensing exam, and any additional documents required by RERA.
Step 7: Background Check and Approval
Upon receiving your application, RERA will conduct a thorough background check to ensure your compliance with the regulatory standards. This includes verifying your educational qualifications, checking your criminal record, and reviewing your financial stability. Cooperate fully with the authorities and provide any requested documents during this process. Once your background check is cleared, you will be one step closer to obtaining your real estate license.
Step 8: Obtain the License
After successfully completing the previous steps, you will finally receive your real estate license from RERA. This license serves as official proof of your competence and eligibility to operate in the real estate market. It is essential to keep your license updated and comply with the regulations set forth by RERA throughout your career to maintain your professional standing in the industry.

How to Become a Safety Officer in the UAE [2025]: Opportunities for Kenya
Tumblr media
As the UAE continues to expand its infrastructure and industrial sectors, the demand for Safety Officers has reached an all-time high. If you’re in Kenya and looking for an exciting career abroad, now is the time to explore how to become a Safety Officer in the UAE. This guide provides you with refreshed insights and actionable steps to build a rewarding career while contributing to the UAE’s evolving safety standards.
Why Safety Officers Are Crucial in the UAE
With massive projects like the Expo City Dubai expansion and advancements in oil, gas, and construction industries, ensuring workplace safety is paramount. Safety Officers play a pivotal role in maintaining health and safety regulations, protecting workers, and ensuring compliance with international standards. If you’re ready to seize this opportunity, here’s how you can start your journey.
What Does a Safety Officer Do?
Safety Officers wear many hats. Their primary responsibility is to create and maintain a safe working environment, but their daily tasks extend far beyond that. Here are some of the essential functions they perform:
Identifying Workplace Hazards: Spot potential risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
Training and Awareness: Educate employees on safety protocols and ensure they follow best practices.
Emergency Response: Act swiftly during emergencies, provide first aid, and conduct safety inspections.
Policy Development: Draft safety guidelines tailored to specific situations and industries.
Incident Investigation: Analyze workplace accidents, identify causes, and establish preventive measures.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local and international safety standards.
Safety Officers are the backbone of workplace well-being, ensuring every employee feels secure and supported.
How to Become a Safety Officer in the UAE
Ready to begin your journey? Follow these six essential steps to kickstart your career:
Step 1: Get Your Bachelor’s Degree
A solid educational foundation is crucial. Pursue a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Disaster Management, or a related field. If you lack this qualification, don’t worry — there are alternative pathways through certifications and practical experience.
Step 2: Enroll in Specialized Safety Courses
Specialized training is the cornerstone of a successful career in safety. Many institutions offer short-term courses to enhance your expertise. Here are some highly recommended programs:
Diploma in Environment Health and Safety Management (2 weeks): Learn to identify hazards and manage risks effectively.
Diploma in Construction Safety: Master the intricacies of construction site safety, including legal frameworks and risk management.
Mastering Hazard and Safety Management (7 days): Gain comprehensive insights into setting up secure workplaces and earn a CIQ, UK certification.
Basics of Fire Safety (4–6 hours): Equip yourself with fire prevention and emergency response skills.
UniAthena offers free and accessible training for Kenyan professionals looking to build their credentials.
Step 3: Gain Practical Work Experience
Hands-on experience is non-negotiable. Internships or entry-level roles in high-demand sectors like construction, oil, gas, and manufacturing will give you the exposure needed to thrive. Companies in these industries often seek individuals who can demonstrate practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge.
Step 4: Understand UAE’s Safety Regulations
Every country has unique safety laws and guidelines. Familiarize yourself with the UAE’s labor laws, regulatory bodies, and compliance standards. Many organizations value candidates who are already knowledgeable about local requirements.
Step 5: Build a Professional Network
Networking can open doors to unadvertised job opportunities. Attend industry events, webinars, and conferences to connect with experienced Safety Officers, consultants, and health and safety experts. LinkedIn is also a powerful tool for building professional relationships within the UAE.
Step 6: Start Applying for Jobs
With a strong academic background, certifications, and industry connections, you’re ready to enter the job market. Look for entry-level or junior roles to get your foot in the door. As you gain experience, you’ll have opportunities to climb the corporate ladder and take on senior positions.
Bonus Tips for Kenyan Professionals
Alternative Pathways: If you don’t have a bachelor’s degree, focus on gaining relevant certifications and practical experience.
Industry Demand: While construction and manufacturing are top sectors, the healthcare industry in the UAE also seeks qualified Safety Officers.
Timeline: It typically takes 2–3 years to build the necessary qualifications and experience for a mid-level role.
Conclusion
Becoming a Safety Officer in the UAE is a fulfilling career path, especially for professionals from Kenya seeking international opportunities. By combining education, certifications, and practical experience, you can position yourself as a sought-after expert in the field. The UAE’s booming industrial growth means there’s never been a better time to leap.
If you’re ready to begin, explore free and specialized courses through platforms like UniAthena to build your credentials. Remember, the journey requires dedication, a passion for safety, and a readiness to adapt to new challenges. With perseverance, you’ll not only secure a role but also make a meaningful impact on workplace safety in the UAE.

Interpretative Blog #1
Currently, my relationship with nature is complex and evolving. Before moving to Canada in 2013, I lived in Dubai, a city characterized by its dry climate and urbanized landscape. Where the coldest temperatures rarely dropped below 16 degrees Celsius, and greenery was limited to artificial landscapes and designated parks. My introduction to snow after moving to Canada was magical at first. For a young girl who had only seen snow in movies, experiencing the first snowfall felt special. However, that feeling faded quickly as I faced harsh winters, icy sidewalks, and biting winds. These conditions reshaped my perspective on nature, making me realize that its beauty often comes with challenges.
As an environmental management major, my understanding and appreciation of nature have deepened. The program has taught me to see beyond the discomfort of cold winters and recognize the importance of each season in maintaining ecological balance. For example, snow is an insulator for the soil, protecting plant life during freezing temperatures, while spring’s thaw rejuvenates the environment. This knowledge has helped me adopt a more patient and appreciative outlook on weather and nature.
My relationship with nature is most positive during the summer months. Summers in Dubai were notoriously hot and humid, often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Outdoor activities were limited to early mornings or late evenings, and the heat was oppressive even then. In contrast, Canadian summers are mild and pleasant, offering plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors. I have spent many summer days hiking in forests, kayaking on lakes, and enjoying the sun's warmth. These experiences have fostered a sense of connection and gratitude for nature’s gifts.
The concept of “a sense of place,” as described in the textbook, has been instrumental in shaping my evolving relationship with nature. The textbook emphasizes that a sense of place is not just about physical surroundings but also the cultural and emotional connections we form with those places. This sense of place has been cultivated through interactions with close friends and natural landscapes in Canada. For instance, attending cultural festivals outdoors has allowed me to see how people adapt to and celebrate their environment, regardless of the season. These experiences have deepened my appreciation of the interconnectedness between people and nature. Another example I can think of is winter sports, including figure skating and tubing, which created a sense of belonging to the environment.
Moreover, mentors and peers in my program have played a significant role in fostering this sense of place. Group projects for a previous course, Discovering Biodiversity, that involved analyzing and spotting squirrel occurrences on campus have made me feel more rooted in the environment around me—one memorable project involved studying the effects of urban development on a nearby wetland. The hands-on experience expanded my knowledge and strengthened my emotional connection to the land.
In conclusion, my relationship with nature has transformed significantly over the years. While I once viewed it through a lens of discomfort and inconvenience, I now see it as a source of inspiration and learning.
