Dramas I would like to force people to watch with me
(but can't since kidnapping is illegal)
a post of links
Since I managed to lure one of my best friends into watching the masterpiece that is The Untamed with satisfying results, my urge to force people to watch other asian dramas has spiralled out of control. The fact that there's a treasure trove of great stories out there that most people will miss makes me want to ugly cry. So here's a couple of posts with shows I love in no particular order as a feeble attempt to reel some more people in. Come, we have queers, psychopaths and magic.
part one - the untamed
part two - flower of evil
part three - arthdal chronicles
part four - prison playbook
part five - mysterious lotus casebook

Fav 2022 K-Dramas/Movies
1. My Liberation Notes
Tumblr media
About: Three siblings, exhausted by the monotony of day to day adulthood, seek to find fulfillment and freedom from their unremarkable lives
Honestly, no one did it like My Liberation Notes. The way they captured the mundane lives of adults, the longing for happiness, freedom, and the loneliness of it all. The way they depicted all that through raw lines, monologues, and even silence that gave even deeper meanings. To say I love this show is an understatement 🥺
2. Extraordinary Attorney Woo
Tumblr media
About: Woo Young Woo, a woman on the spectrum that tackles challenges as a newbie at a top law firm
This show is popular for a reason. It has everything you could ask for in a kdrama: feel good vibes, heartwarming stories, heart-fluttering love, found family, and interesting characters (with brilliant acting). Although we couldn't expect Woo Young Woo to be representative for all people with autism (since autism is considered as a spectrum), but I love the way her portrayal in this show was educative while also really fun to watch 🤍
3. Twenty Five Twenty One
Tumblr media
About: In a time where dreams seem out of reach, a teen fencer pursues her ambitions and meets a hardworking young man who seeks to rebuilds his life.
Couldn't express how much it's comforting to watch the two main characters build connection in the pursuit of happiness. The fact that these two people share different perspectives in life (one was hopeful & optimistic, while the other one was realistic) was its charm. Not to mention the growing bond of the friendship between them and their friends. Together, they make every scene seemed refreshing and entertaining to watch. It was truly an uplifting youth show that brightened last year's atmosphere ✨
4. Alchemy of Souls
Tumblr media
About: A powerful sorceress in a blind woman's body encounters a man from a prestigious family, who wants her help to change his destiny.
Love, love the world building of this one! Also, the gripping love stories that took "I'll love every version of you" seriously 🥺. It was captivating how observant every characters in this show were & the way they unfold the stories. Even the action scenes portrayed like an art. Therefore, even though it has many episodes with long duration, I wasn't bored at all.
5. Little Women
Tumblr media
About: Three sisters become embroiled in a major incident and face off against the wealthiest family in the nation
The fact that two of my fave actresses (Nam jihyun & Kim goeun) casted in one kdrama was such a dream!! It's a women centric kdrama i could say, from the way the main characters, writer, & director are all women <3. I love that it has such morally grey characters and a story that's full of intriguing misteries. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
6. 20th Century Girl
Tumblr media
About: A teen girl has her eyes set on a boy for her lovesick best friend. However, things become complicated when she falls in love and is forced to choose between love and friendship
A heartening youth stories that every fan of 2521 should watch! Again, the plot seemed cliche but it still managed to enthralled you with sweet & fun interactions between the main characters, their growing romance, and what comes for them in the future. It was a rollercoaster of emotion but I really enjoyed it to end <3
7. Business Proposal
Tumblr media
About: Hari, a regular employee, shows up to a blind date in disguise of her rich friend to scare him away. Things go awry when he turns out to be her CEO and makes a proposal.
Normally, a kdrama with a cliche plot and some cringe lines wasn't my piece of cake. But Business Proposal is something else I guess. It managed to make even the cliche plot entertaining to watch, still. I didn't expect that I'd laugh this much while watching this show, but I did. Their actings were so fun to watch and it's such a light kdrama that i enjoyed to watch.
Addition: Fav K-Drama (Not Released in 2022) that I've Watched Last Year
Prison Playbook
Tumblr media
About: a legendary Korean baseball player whose life change after he chases a man who harasses his sister and finds himself spending a year in prison.
This is such a gem for a slice of life genre! From the director of Hospital Playlist & Reply series, you could expect some heartwarming feels coming from every characters' background stories. Despite the serious & harsh life we could thought of from prison life, this kdrama have many comical scenes, a series of roommates bickering, & such a moving found family. I wish the director would make more of these 🥺🤍
K-Drama Recommendations: 8/?

Plsplsplsplssplsplsplspls friend u need to watch weak hero class GODDDDDDD it is so good. They was really having an acting Olympics on that set it don’t even make sense. Idek how to describe it just watch a trailer omg that wannaone boy was acting his ass OFFFFFFFFFFFF (prior to watching it actually I had no idea he had been an actor since he was a child so I thought this was like. His first role as an idol so I was like DAMN WAS RHE W1 CHECKS NOT COMING IN NO MORE??????????? Cus he was in that character like his rent was seven days late or something 😭😭😭😭😭)
Another drama I like is hometown chachacha! :3 it’s soooo fluffy and cute and ughh god I wish that was me.
Hospital playlist is also really good! I’m pretty sure the female lead is the same as in hometown chachacha so that’s fun. It’s a really funny show! It definitely has its serious moments (cus it’s a hospital and like niggas be dying and shit so 😭) but they are so well done and it had me crying and throwing up bad. But overall it’s very wholesome and the osts are good :3
Prison playbook is also made by the ppl who made hospital playlist and features a lot of the same actors and actresses. Prison playbook actually came first so apparently there’s a lot of references to it in hospital playlist, but I watched hospital playlist first so I have no idea and I kinda don’t gaf regardless 😭😭😭😭
Ok the last one is castaway diva. That one is so quirky and weird and honestly a plot that istg only Korean ppl could come up with 😭😭 I actually haven’t finished watching it yet but so far I love it and I love the female lead’s satoori it’s so endearing to me
Okay I lied while I was writing the last one another one popped in my head. D.P. is highkey dark asf cus it’s basically about these two dudes who are in the Korean military and their job is to catch draft evaders and it explores how complex the reasons can be as to why some Korean men would take such a huge risk. It shows how some people abuse others in the military because of their highsr ranks. I think it’s based off of actual events that have happened but not completely
Yet another one popped into my head while writing the previous one 😭 it’s a movie though. It’s called 1987: when the day comes. It’s about the gwangju uprisings/june uprisings and the events that led to Korea becoming a democratic country. It definitely takes creative liberties and the story is not completely accurate but that’s not the point it’s such s beautiful story 💔💔
Okay only 2 more I swear cus I jsut keep thinking of other ones while writing each one 😭😭😭😭 if u haven’t seen it already plsplsplsplspls watch the handmaiden (also a movie). One of the best pieces of sapphic cinema of all time it’s definitely a must like it’s beautiful (it also has the same female lead as the previous one! But this was I think her first major role (which is a crazy way to debut if u think abt it😭))
Okay the last one fr is juvenile justice. Omg. It’s about this judge lady who is oversees cases for juveniles cus she fawking hates children bad (she has trauma) and it explores what leads some kids to act bad asf and how some kids actually are super deranged 😭 but it shows her journey of realizing not all the kids who come through her court are bad kids they just have shit circumstances that led them to doing the things they do
OKAY that’s finally jt I hope u enjoy them :3
— 🍓
i’ve heard of some of these!! i’ll check them out tysm :33

Crash Course in Romance - First Impressions
I started Crash Course in Romance purely for Jung Kyung Ho only to discover it is directed by HomeCha director and has all of my favourites in the supporting cast. And now I am firmly sucked in to it cause of Jeon Do Yeon. It’s my first time watching her and she is such an amazing natural performer - it’s like acting is in her blood. She just has to show up and she will make sure your eyes are fixated on her.
Tumblr media
There maybe many actresses who are more beautiful than her , but I’m dead sure there are very few who can surpass her acting skills. I didn’t even know what a big star she is, until I saw this series and went and looked up her acting resume!
I adored Jung Kyung Ho in Prison PlayBook and Hospital Playlist ( a drama that didn’t hook me but his charcater did) and was dying to see him as a main lead and I’m absolutely loving him in every scene. He has to be one of the best actors out there who has picture perfect comic timing.
Tumblr media
All his outbursts and expressions when he is startled by JDY’s character are downright hilarious. But he is also delivering on the emotional scenes, the scene where he cried eating her food for the first time - it hit home hard. It reminded me of the scene in Chocolate when the younger Ha Ji Won cried after eating the younger Yoon Kye Sang’s mom’s food at their restaurant. The connection she holds dear for the rest of her life in that drama. Food is so integral to KDramas and Korean culture and to see it form the foundation of the leads’ relationship, her food healing him - could it get better than this?
KDramas do found families the best - take Reply 1988, Prison Playbook, Hospital Playlist, Be Melodramatic, Hometown Cha Cha Cha - people bound by love, friendship and hearts. JDY looking after her autistic brother and her niece as her own kids, running a food store with her best friend is all kinds of heartwarming to me. She who had to give up on her handball dream, she who carries no grievance, no regrets, no sadness in her heart for having to bear the burden of raising a family at a young age. She who hasn’t had a chance to live her own life selfishly , but is selfless, pure hearted, free spirited, never once cynical, loving and a kind hearted soul. Her positivity is contagious.
Tumblr media
Even when her autistic brother is misunderstood, she is polite and apologetic even though they are not at fault. Even when her daughter NaHee bears the brunt of unfairness from the academy and manipulation by the evil moms, she fights for fairness but doesn’t grudge the people.
JDY and Lee Bong Ryun’s friendship will hit the top 10 female friendships in KDramas if they keep going strong. I crave for the scenes between these two - pulling each other’s legs, egging each other on, encouraging and complimenting each other and most important reminding each other how valuable they are. Here’s to more women friendships! KDramas have often got this part right!
Tumblr media
I don’t usually care for teenage romance or love triangles, but there is something endearing about the budding love triangle between Na Hee, Sun Jae and Geon Hu. Na Hee is married to her studies and completely oblivious to these two guys crushing on her and I love that! Also the scene in the park where Sun Jae and Na Hee tell each other their secrets - just a glimpse of how at the bottom of it all their friendship is pure and I hope that doesn’t change.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The moms don’t impact me after having seen Sky Castle, they are the toned down version of those monster moms from Sky Castle. Plus if you cast Kim Sun Young (love her in freaking every role and drama) and Jang Young Nam ( my favourite coach in BokJoo) - how am I supposed to hate them! I mean I want to whack the shit out of them for the nastiness they bring to the screen, but I love how well they are doing it. Do you get my conflict?
Tumblr media
Crash Course in Romance has complete HomeCha vibes, Ms Sunshine meets Mr Grumpy trope, with backdrop of the competitive Korean education system pressure on kids and parents alike, which was dealt brilliantly in Sky Castle.
In summary, Crash Course in Romance is 100% Hometown Cha Cha Cha meets Sky Castle. I loved both dramas and it’s no surprise am enjoying this fine mix too right now.
What about you lot?

Tumblr media
I did not expect to reach 100 followers before the end of the year! This community is great! Thanks so much! It's been a blast so far!
So, um.. Hi! I'm StayDandy!
I live in USA .. English is my first and (sadly) only language, but I want to learn Korean (I've gotten to the point of knowing the alphabet, being able to read/sound out words, understand a bit of the sentence structure, and recognize/remember a precious few words).
I started to get into Asian dramas and music early 2021. I've been watching & reading anime & manga/manwha, since college (*cough*, 10 years ago *cough*), but my interest had faded over time. Until last year's nose-dive back into dramas (Prison Playbook cracked the door, and I slammed it open!). I've been obsessed ever since! 😆 The interest in K/J/C-Music is newer; I hadn't really explored it before this past year (unless you count when PSY originally released Gangnam Style lol) .. I still listen to American music, but K/J/C music has taken over my Spotify, it's now the dominant genre (throw in a little Swedish power-metal and that's basically my Library in a nutshell).
I started exploring the whump community on Tumblr this past April - I was honestly amazed there were so many people with this interest, same as me! I started posting in May - I wanted to join in the fun, & contribute my own backlog of lists (I'd been writing them for over a decade after all, might as well put them to good use).
So.. idk if there's any interest.. I thought I'd share a detailed look at my List posts .. some of it is rather self-explanatory, but some of it might not be .. maybe this'll clarify what & why I format them the way I do.
But if you're just looking for a place to start exploring my page, I'd suggest My Directory. It breaks off to everything else. I organize everything manually so it's as accurate as I can make it.
Thanks again for Following along!
Post Breakdown (below the break) :
I'll use this surprisingly popular post as an example (really would not have guessed that Bridal Mask would receive the attention it did).
First, of course, you get the show title (in English & it's original language) .. a picture for the show (I try to use a pic that has the whumpee(s) in it) .. then a quick synopsis of the show. Simple, self-explanatory.
At the end of the synopsis I include a direct link to an official data site for the show (usually it's MyDramaList for Asian shows, and between Wikipedia or InternetMovieDatabase for English shows). • I include the "AKA" because there are quite a few shows that go by multiple names because of different translations/interpretations of the original title, or even official title changes before it aired. I've had the issue before of trying to find a show using (unknowingly) an uncommon translation of the title, which made it difficult to find what I was looking for. So, JIC, I include them here.
If there's multiple whumpee's I will color-code them, which carries throughout the list. • The links on the actor names are searches of my Tumblr. It's an easy way to see if I have any other lists with said actor in it. (I don't include them on English lists because I rarely have multiple lists with the same English actor. In the case that I do, I'll add the link)
The country links back to that country's whump list library.
Next are the notes about the show (any interesting details, what it's adapted from, ect.).. notes about my list.. &/or just my general thoughts on the show.
I use ellipsis ( ... ) for when there's a break between whump scenes. • Every now and then I will include my own thoughts amongst the whump, usually "subscript & in blue" • You can see the color-coding in action (I wish Tumblr had more color options). • When there's multiple whumpees I use a kinda "tag-you're-it" system : -- I mention a Character (A) and their whump until [chronologically in the episodes] something happens to Character (B), any whump following is (B)'s whump.. until (A) is mentioned by name again, then everything after is (A)'s whump ... and so on and so forth.
(Apparently Tumblr only actually uses the first 20 tags on a post, which is incredibly unhelpful. I still try to include all the key-words in my tags, but they're more for my own quick reference when I manually organize my posts.)
Tumblr media
Hello again!
Thanks for reading! I've had people tell me I have an "interesting" way of organizing, & I tend to over-think things (you should see the organized chaos that is my bedroom! lol).
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll do my best to answer. Or if you just want to chat, I'm cool with that too.
And for those of you who've made it to the end of this post; If you see a show in one of my Libraries that is not marked as a "full whump list" (whether it's been posted already or not), but you're interested in seeing a full list for that show, let me know! I'm already going back and updating some partial lists here and there, but if you ask I'll prioritize your request!
Hope ya'll have a good Holiday season and New Year!

Dramas I would like to force people to watch with me (but can't since kidnapping is illegal) part 4
Found family, precious friendships and fighting against injustice. And also finding your way back to self love.
Prison Playbook (2017)
Tumblr media
comedy/drama/korean
This absolute gem of a show follows the loveable Kim Jehyeok, a famous baseball player who is sent to prison for beating up the man who sexually assaulted his sister. He's endearingly dumb and kind hearted, but hides a lot of anger and frustration inside. His childhood friend (played by the best actor in the world, Jung Kyungho) works as a prison guard and keeps a close eye on the person he admires most in the world.
What has stuck with me the most with this drama is the interactions between the characters. The warmth and the friendships. In their tiny cell the inmates become a family that fight but look after each other no matter what. The most lovable and grumpy of prison guards care just as deeply for the inmates he watches over. Found family is my favourite trope, and this has it in abundance. It's also a story that talks about not giving up when it gets hard and fighting for what is right in a world that is chaotic and sometimes quite dark.
It's funny, silly, warm, thought provoking and abundantly filled with love. The ensemble of actors do a fantastic job and the story is both heart wrenching and full of hope. It's one of my comfort shows that gets a rewatch whenever I need a dose of love and hope.
