Hi, before you say anything about my name. One) DragonsAreOverrated was taken, and two) I dislike dragon types for very personal reasons that are related to my damn genetics donor of a father, so before you go on and tell me 'Dragons are great actually because-!' I dont wanna fucking hear it.

Alright, now that thats out of the way.

My name is Ichika and my pronouns are she/her, call me anything other than that and I will find you and bite you, or my Crobat will, which ever one of us gets to you first.

I'm the champ of the Naljo, don't know what that region is? Its in between Johto and Kanto, but it's a shithole here so don't come.

I'm 23 years old, birthday April 22 (Marianne made me put this here), and am dating my girlfriend who… I think is what you guys would call a faller? She's not from here, but she's still from a place that had pokemon. She's 23 and named Marianne, she was originally from Kalos, moved to Hoenn, beat the league, and then got sucked up into another dimension which is mine.

She sometimes will pop up and write in pink, all her stuff will be tagged with #Mon Amour, which is what I asked to to put it as. I don't know that much Kalosion. She also has her own intro post here.

Mineral Mondays: Iolite

I’m so so excited to be writing about this one! It’s my favorite crystal 💙

Iolite is a gemmy, blue-violet variety of the mineral cordierite, named after Louis Cordier, a French geologist. The name iolite comes from the Greek word ios, meaning violet. Some of its other names include water sapphire (a reference to its visual similarity to the precious gem), dichroite (an old name meaning two-colored rock), and viking’s compass.

Iolite is able to strongly polarize light, so a thin sheet of it can be used to locate the exact location of the sun even on cloudy days. Pieces of iolite were used by seafarers during the Viking Age to navigate, hence, “viking’s compass”. In Medieval texts, there are references to a sunstone - in this case named for its ability to locate the sun - which is probably iolite. This is not the same sunstone we know today, but the term is still sometimes used for a particular variety of iolite (more on that later).

Found in the orthorhombic system, iolite usually forms in short, prismatic crystals, which can appear hexagonal. It has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, slightly harder than quartz. This makes it a good jewelry stone. Unfortunately, rings and bracelets are still at risk of damage - iolite is brittle, so it may chip if hit against something, resulting in an uneven to conchoidal fracture.

The color of iolite varies depending on which direction you observe it from. Usually, stones are cut/polished with the “best color” face-up. In most iolite, this is a dark or pale and slightly desaturated blue or violetish blue, but the highest quality stones can be a gorgeous bright blue rivaling sapphire or a deep violet-blue like tanzanite. 

From the side, iolite is colorless to yellow (sometimes nearly orange), and from a third direction, the same stone may be colorless, grey, or light violet. This is a property known as pleochroism, more specifically trichroism, and it’s especially pronounced in iolite. In fact, it’s one of the most strongly pleochroic stones! The directions of pleochroism are also nearly at right angles to each other, so a cube or rectangular prism cut with the sides aligned will show the different colors exceptionally well (as seen in the image above).

An interesting subvariety of iolite is frequently called bloodshot iolite or bloody iolite. I’ve also heard it incorrectly referred to as sunstone iolite, sunstone-in-iolite, and sun-o-lite. This variety does resemble sunstone, and in fact, the sparkles inside are caused by the same thing. Tiny, often reddish platelets of hematite inside an iolite crystal can create an attractive, iridescent glittery appearance. This phenomenon is known as aventurescence and can also be observed in sunstone and aventurine. When present in iolite, it can significantly increase the value of the stone.

Sometimes, hematite or other inclusions can orient themselves in a way that creates chatoyancy, the cat’s-eye phenomenon. These stones are polished into cabochons to reveal the eye. Cat’s-eye iolite is very rare and relatively expensive.

With its strong pleochroism, iolite is difficult to confuse with other stones. It’s sometimes used to imitate tanzanite, but simply looking at the stone from the side will reveal the difference - iolite will be pale violet, yellow, or colorless, while tanzanite will be purple, blue, green, red, or brown. Iolite is the less expensive of the two by far. Very high-quality iolite may imitate fine sapphire, but again, just look from the side - sapphire stays blue in every direction!

Iolite is quite an inexpensive stone, so you won’t have to worry about someone selling you a piece of glass and calling it iolite (plus, you already know how to identify it!). You may need to shine a light through the stone from behind to reveal its colors, especially in rough pieces.

A huge benefit of iolite, especially if you’re more of a purist when it comes to crystals, is that it’s not subjected to any treatments. It’s not heated like sapphire or tanzanite, it’s not irradiated, it usually isn’t even oiled to fill fractures. That gorgeous blue color is totally natural! 

This is because the cause of color, a charge transfer between Fe2+ to oxygen to Fe3+, can’t be modified through any method that would preserve the integrity of the stone. It’s believed that the purer blues in higher quality iolite are caused by a charge transfer between iron and titanium, as in sapphire. Theoretically these stones could be heated to improve their color, but they’d melt first! 

Because its chomophores (ions that cause color) are so stable, iolite can’t fade in the sun ☀️

To fully take advantage of iolite’s joy-inspiring ability, leave a piece in the windowsill of a frequently used area, where it can catch the sun. This is especially effective if it’s a sparkly bloodshot iolite! (Please be careful if your iolite is rounded. Round, transparent objects can act as lenses and start fires if they focus sunlight onto any flammable surfaces.)

Iolite is sacred to Rån, the Norse goddess of the sea, who was said to receive the spirits of the drowned. For those who worship Rån, offerings of iolite and gold are excellent choices.

Ah-? Uh, flowers are much more Maris thing, but... hm.

Its kinda stupid, but when I was a kid, mom would grow snapdragons all around the house.

They were pretty... all sorts of different colors... I would grow them myself but, Im shit with plants.

As for berries. Most of them are too strong for me before theyre cooked, but Pecha are nice to bite into sometimes.

Hell knows I got used to eating them because of my stupid rival and his Parasect. Cheri berries too... hate those berries... too spicy.

[The video starts with the focus on Ichika, who sighs with a muttering of "Let's just get this over with..."

Her Rival on the other side of the battle field looks oddly... nervous? Shifting on his feet, tapping his shoe against the ground, looking ahead then glancing off to the side...

All very odd behavior, even to those who haven't met him before.

Once the camera is moved back far enough to get a whole view of the battle field, Ichika yells out, "USUAL RULES! NO SWITCHING TILL AN APPOSING POKEMON FAINTS, NO HEALING ITEMS MID BATTLE, NEITHER OF US USE ANY LEGENDARIES WE'VE CAUGHT. UNDERSTOOD PRISM?"

Her Rival, Prism, nods, and the battle starts.

Ichika throws out her Crobat Doku

Prism throws out a Parasect, a very clear bad start for him as he winces seeing Doku.

"Sect! Use Spore!" "Send it back Doku! Then Aerial Ace!"

The Parasect scuttles forward and tries to send out the spores to put the speedy bat to sleep, however Doku spins in place while flying, practically fully dodging the spores as he hits the other pokemon with a quick slash of his wings.

Despite the weak attack, its an instant knock out. The Parasect is quickly returned and Prism opens his mouth to speak- but Ichika quickly cuts him off before he even starts "Save it! Words don't need to be exchanged till the end of the battle!"

"R-right. Sorry." He prepares to send out his next pokemon as Ichika returns hers, seemingly not noticing anything up with her rival.

The camera is briefly turned back to face Marianne, the one holding it, she has a very confused look on her face with hints of suspicion, she even mouths the words "What the fuck-?" before she glances up and turns the camera back towards Ichika and Prism in a panic, almost missing them throw out their next pokemon.

Ichika sends out Noyaki the Ninetales and Prism sends out an Ursaring

"Slash!" "Noyaki, Dark Pulse!"

The Ursaring quickly starts to Slash over and over and over again, Noyaki dodging each one before jumping onto the back of the bear pokemon, preparing the Dark Pulse that was commanded-

"THRASH!" the Ursaring begins to Thrash about, throwing off Noyaki and making her hit the snowy ground with a yelp, growling at the bear beginning to rush at her- "WILL-O-WHISP! NOW!"

The Ninetale's eyes quickly flash and three ghostly flames smack into the pokemon rapidly at the fox, hardly any room to dodge or duck due to the pokemon's frantic attempts at attacking- said attacks slowing a bit and weakening due to the burn- then the speed of the pokemon picks up-

Ursaring's Quick feet was activated!

Ichika looks to curse under her breath, before calling out "Flamethrower!"

Noyaki just barely dodges the next attack, the Ursaring quickly spinning around and grabbing the base of the Ninetale's tails to try and yoink her back making Noyaki yelp in pain-

"RING NO-"

The Ursaring turns to face her trainer in confusion before a Flamethower smacks hard into the side of the pokemon, knocking her out.

"STOP THE FUCKING BATTLE NOW-"

Ichika rushes over to her Ninetales, swiftly bringing out a hyper potion and begins to check over the tail that was pulled at, Marianne comes over as well, and so does Prism-

"I'm so fucking sorry I don't fucking know why she did that I-"

"SHUT THE FUCK UP PRISM AND BACK UP!" Ichika snaps harshly, with a low growl, her pupils are-... well visible would be the wrong word, as they're very thin slits.

Prism jolts and quickly takes several steps back.

The tail looks dislocated, Ichika takes it and as quick as she can, puts it back in place, making Noyaki wail in pain for a few moments- "Shh shh, it's okay- I'm so sorry my little fire-"

The camera is set down as Ichika is taking care of her Ninetales and now all dark... until the camera seems to automatically switch, now facing up at the sky, the sound of yelling can be heard mildly muffled-

"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOUR DAMN POKEMON!" It's Marianne, sounding very angry

"I-I AM TRYING TO TRAIN IT OUT OF THEM I FUCKING SWEAR!"

"WELL YOU'RE DOING A SHIT JOB AT IT CLEARLY!"

"H-HEY! YOU DON'T FUCKING KNOW THAT YOU BITCH! DON'T ASSUME SHIT OF ME!"

Suddenly it's quiet, a low snarl picking up closer to the camera, sounding down right draconic.

"What the fuck did you just call my fucking GIRLFRIEND?!"

"Y-your WHAT-?" There's clear shock and confusion in Prism's voice as he says that

A brief blur of purple and blue passes by the camera and the sound of skin hitting skin is heard along with a pained grunt and a gasp, the sound of crunching snow and more skin hitting skin- punching-

"ICHI NO- WAIT-" Marianne sounds very panicked, more crunching snow-

In the chaos, Noyaki peaks at the phone, ears flat against her head and a concerned look, her paws smack the screen a couple times before the video ends-...
