What or who got you into whump in the first place? What work was your first whump encounter?
I think I've always been into 'whumpy' scenes, I just didn't have a word to call them specifically beyond "angst". But my earliest memories of stories I became very obsessed with that in retrospect were clearly an early whumpiness include:
1. There was a My Little Ponies story when I was very very VERY young that we had on VHS where little ponies got tricked and then forced to work in I think a circus of some kind? And they had big iron rings around their necks and chains
2. There was another, or maybe the same one, where ponies were turned into dragons by the villain and their friends didn't recognize them and they were forced to work for the villain
3. Prince Phillip imprisoned and chained up by Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. Man, that scene could have lasted MUCH longer and been just fine by me
4. The Silver Chair, by C.S. Lewis. I used to reread the scene where the prince is tied to the chair begging the children to believe that THIS is what he is like sane, and he's a prisoner, please save him - oh man. I still reread that scene on occasion, honestly.
5. I had an absolute fascination with Frollo's obsession with Esmerelda in the Hunchback of Notre Dame, although I didn't understand it for what it clearly was. But him singing about making her live with him so he can "purify" her was just. Damn, that's some dark shit, isn't it?
As far as when I started specifically writing whump, that was in 2019! I did a writing challenge for fanfic and one of the prompts was 'whump'. I'd been more or less out of the loop on fanfic for a long time and had to ask @pinkcupboardwitch what it meant. Then I went on a tag-research spree on tumblr, fell headfirst into the community, and now I live here under the whump bridge like a troll shouting riddles and stories.

The Sleeping Beauty
Pairing Sam x Reader
@spnfluffbingo square filled: fairy tale AU
Warnings: nothing really, I donât think anyways. Implied smut at the end? Mild violent scenes. Nothing too descriptive anywhere.
Final word count: 1924
Sam brought his arm around YN, smiling as she settled into his warm embrace. They were just hanging around, channel flipping, enjoying the quiet evening. Dean was at the bar, and Cas had gone with him, it was almost like a date, but neither would admit such a thing.
YN shivered as Sam traced along her arm, the touch so feathery soft, yet spoke volumes to the thoughts going through his mind. One of the things she liked about Sam was his quiet demeanor, the way  caressed her with a mere look, undressed her with his eyes. The thoughts that danced across his beautiful hazel orbs every time he looked at her, like she was a goddess, and he worshipped the ground she walked on, they made her feel like she could do anything as long as she had him.
They gazed at each other, lost in their silent caresses, too entranced to notice the lights flicker. There was a storm outside, so it would have been shrugged off as coincidence, until the TV went wonky, the picture flitting off and on, landing briefly on the screen of death, then landing on a movie.
âSam, werenât we watching Food network? How did we end up on Disney?â
Sam glanced at YN, then at the tv. Frowning, he looked back at his love. âNo idea, must be some weird effect from the storm. Anyways, its one of your favorites. We can watch it if you want.â
He knew her well. Sleeping Beauty was indeed one of her all time favorite Disney classics. She was a sucker for romance and brave heroes.
YN snuggled closer to Sam. âOk. Can you turn it up a bit though? Itâs really quiet.â
No sooner did Sam touch the remote, a brilliant white light lit the entire room, and when it had subsided, Sam and YN were no longer there.
**
YN woke feeling strange, but she couldnât figure out why. She also had no clue as to why she could hear birds chirping and smell fresh forest air. It was that moment her eyes flew open, noting she wasnât in her bed, neither was she in her house.
In fact, she was most definitely not in her realm.
She was a cartoon, and not just any cartoon, but she was in fact, Princess Aurora.
But where was Sam? How did they get there? And how on Earth were they ever going to get home?
**
Sam woke standing in a stable, beside a horse. A cartoon horse. Running over to the fresh bucket of water, he glanced at his reflection and was shocked to see he was a cartoon. He was in Sleeping Beauty. He was Prince Philip, actually.
Maybe, YN was Aurora.
But how did this happen? He remembered when he had been transported with Dean and Cas into Scooby Doo, so maybe this was the same kind of deal. As long as they played out the story, they should be returned to their world at the end.
He just had to make sure he didnât die, and that YN was unharmed as well. Heâd only seen this particular movie a couple of times, but he knew the basics. It looked like they had come into the movie about midway, where Phillip is getting ready to go riding in the forest, and meets Aurora for the first time.
He saddled Samson and easily swung up onto the horse. He paced his ride to a slow trot, enjoying the natural sounds of the forest, but also listening for the musical voice that would lead him to YN/Aurora. He had heard her sing to many of the Disney films theyâd watched over the years, and knew she could carry a tune fairly well. His opinion might be somewhat bias but in his heart he knew she was more than capable of playing this role.
**
YN, having seen this movie many times, played the role of Briar Rose perfectly. She was sent by the fairies to pick berries in the woods. She strolled along the paths, feeling the grass tickle her feet as she walked. For fun, she decided to see if she could really sing like the princess in the film, so she began humming, then quietly singing lines about animals having someone to love, yet she remained single. Her heart hoped the Prince was Sam, because he was who she desired the most.
As expected, the lovebirds finally find each other. Sam practically leaps off the horse and catches YN in his arms as she meets him halfway. They dance along the grassy meadow and sing together, gazing into each otherâs eyes lovingly.
They know they canât stay there, or run away together, if they want to go back to their own world, so Sam and YN reluctantly part ways, promising to finish the story so they can live happily ever after. Together in each otherâs arms, forever.
YN returns to the cottage in the glen and finds the surprise dress and birthday cake her guardians have made. They then tell her the truth of her identity, and YN feels her heart break as she pretends to be distraught over the thought of never seeing the young man she met in the forest. Dressed in the beautiful blue gown, and covered in a blue cloak, the three fairies carefully lead the princess to her home and to her parents.
Once there, they lead her to a secluded room so they can keep her safe till the sun has set, thereby foiling the prophecy Maleficent had bestowed upon Aurora when she was a baby. The three of them combined their magic to create a beautiful crown to place upon YNâs head. She looked at the golden tiara and broke down into sobs, her head resting upon her arm on her dresser as she shed tears for her beloved.
When the fairies left her alone for a few minutes, YN knew what would come next, but the trance caused by the green orb took away all her sorrows, but also took away her free will. It was like watching from outside her body. Her mind was being controlled, but she still had her own consciousness. Ever so slowly, she climbed the steps to the top tower, where her fate awaited.
The princess entered the room the orb had coaxed her to, and walked toward the spinning wheel that stood in the middle of the floor. She could hear a menacing voice telling her to touch the spindle of the spinning wheel, but she hesitated briefly, then as the voice in her head grew more demanding, she could no longer resist.
The last thing she remembered was pricking her finger on the sharp point, her body crumpling to the ground as a deep slumber overtook her.
**
Sam made his way to the cottage heâd been âinvited toâ by YN, but he couldnât exactly remember what would happen next. He knew Phillip would get captured by Maleficent, and that it would be soon, but when he knocked on the cottage and stepped in, he wasnât prepared to be overcome so quickly. The evil hordes quickly tied him up and took him away, his anger rising as the evil witch laughed at him.
Chained to the dungeon wall in Maleficentâs home, he listened to her goad him, telling him she would release him in 100 years to rescue his love, then laughing at him as he struggled to break free and kill her.
Once she left him, the three fairies, who had found Aurora lying on the ground in the tower, snuck inside the forbidden mountain where the evil witch resided, and freed Phillip from the chains. Bestowing upon him the Shield of Faith and the Mighty Sword of Truth, they led him to freedom and, after freeing Samson, they helped him escape.
Maleficent heard the commotion and was beyond angry at the incompetence of her minions. She sent a cursed wall of thorns to stop Sam from getting to the castle, but the sword heâd been gifted with cut the magical weeds with ease. He would take on the world if it meant rescuing his beloved YN.
When the thorns failed to stop him, Maleficent appeared before Phillip and spoke these words, âNow shall you deal with me, O Prince, and all the powers of hell!â
With a maniacal laugh, the witch changed, grew, and there before Sam stood a large black dragon. Sam charged at the dragon, and was met with a fiery blast. The shield easily protected him, and Phillip jumped off his horse to fight the great beast. Maleficent snapped her jaws at him, breathed fire at him, but the prince remained strong and vigilant.
When a rather powerful blast knocked Phillipâs shield away, Maleficent laughed and reveled in her almost victory. He wouldnât survive now that he had no shield. But while she laughed, the three good fairies enchanted the Sword of truth:
O Sword of Truth, fly swift and sure,
That evil die and good endure!
When they finished the spell, Sam threw the sword at the large dragon, piercing her heart. With a great cry, the evil Maleficent fell to her death, never to darken the kingdom again.
With her death, the thorns and fire disappeared, allowing Sam to enter the castle and seek out YN. He reached the room where the fairies had laid her down on a soft bed, and bent down to capture her lips in a gentle kiss. YN woke, smiling as she gazed into her loverâs eyes.
They made their way to the grand ball room and paid respect to the king and queen, YN rushing to embrace her âparentsâ. Then the prince and princess danced and shared a kiss, and lived happily ever after.
As they kissed, lights flashed, blinding them, and they held on to each other, hoping they were going back home.
**
Sam and YN opened their eyes and found themselves back in the living room, the tv back on the Food channel and everything back to normal. They remembered everything though. Sam cleared his throat, and looked at YN.
âThat was interesting.â He commented.
âIt was, definitely, and kinda fun.â She replied.
âIt got me thinking YN. I donât want to waste any more time just dating you. I love you. I want to marry you, have children with you, grow old with you. Say youâll be mine.â
YN felt her eyes sting with happy tears. âSam, I canât imagine any part of my future where you are not in it. You complete me, and youâve made me the happiest woman in the world. I love you so much, and I canât wait to marry you, grow old with you, and have children with you.â She giggled as she said the last part. âSpeaking ofâŠI was going to tell you tonight anyways, but, um, weâve already started the having children part.â
Samâs eyes widened as her words caught up with him. âReally?â
The biggest grin sheâd ever seen adorned his face as he joyously swung her around, planting kisses all over her face and neck. Picking her up bridal style, he took her to their room where he spent most of the night showing her how much he loved her.

Sleeping Beauty Headcannons, Theories, and Ideas
This is just a list of the theories, headcannons, and ideas I came up with for Disneyâs Sleeping Beauty. I might add more later on, so watch out
-Fairies like Maleficent, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather have much longer life spans than humans, basically immortal. But fairies arenât gods by any means; they can still get sick and get hurt and die
-Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather are all sisters
-King Stefan and King Hubert have been best friends since their younger years. They first met at a royal ball when they were young princes; they were very bored and werenât having a good time so they went off to explore the castle on their own and they immediately hit it off and became friends
-Merryweather may be the youngest out of her sisters, but sheâs also the smartest and the toughest
-Prince Phillipâs mother was a wise and fair queen named Stella, but she passed away from a terrible sickness when Phillip was about three or four years old
-Hubert and Stella met and fell in love in their teen years and she fell in love with him for his big heart and funny nature
-Before she became the Mistress of All Evil, Maleficent was born to two other dark fairies. Her parentsâ names were Lazarus Thornheart and Quintessa
-Maleficent grew up with her mother and father in an elegant house in the forest
-When she was younger, Maleficent used to be very close with her father, so she was something of a daddyâs girl and Lazarus loved his daughter with every fiber of his being⊠until the day he disappeared when she was rather young and she never saw him again
-As a young girl whenever Maleficent felt angry, sad, or scared, Lazarus would take his daughter into his embrace and they would dance and sing together until Maleficent was happy again
-Maleficentâs scepter can change its form depending on whoever holds it
-During the solar eclipse when Diablo was freed from his stone prison, he discovered Maleficentâs remains. He was devastated, but then he saw her scepter lying next to her. Thinking fast, he took it and with a wave of the scepter, Diablo was able to bring his mistress back from the grave
-When Maleficent came back, she turned everyone in the kingdom, except Princess Aurora, to stone
-After her family, friends, and everyone else the kingdom turned to stone, Aurora was heartbroken. But then she decided she wasnât going to sit idly by anymore and she was finally going to do something about it. She decided to go to the Forbidden Mountain by herself and try to negotiate with Maleficent. Aurora offered her own life in exchange for the freedom of her people, but as much as she wanted to, Maleficent couldnât turn her to stone. Because of the three Good Fairies casting a spell to protect the Princess when she was a baby, the Dark Fairy was unable to curse her now⊠but she could grant her a wish. So Aurora came up with a plan. She wished for Maleficent to place her in an eternal sleep and in exchange, she would set everybody in the kingdom free. Unaware of Auroraâs trick, Maleficent gladly granted the Princessâs wish⊠only to be thwarted by Prince Phillip once again
-When she was younger, Maleficent inherited her scepter from her father. After Lazarus died, he left his scepter, his old castle on the Forbidden Mountain, and his collection of numerous books and scrolls to his daughter⊠and Quintessa didnât really like that
-Maleficent discovered Diablo as a fledgling alone in the forest. His mother and father had run afoul of one of King Stefanâs hunting parties and met their untimely demise. Maleficent took him under her protection, gave him the name Diablo, and cared for him until he was old enough to fly. The raven was so grateful towards her that he remained as her familiar and faithfully serves her to this day
-Around the time King Stefan and Queen Leah were about to be married, Merryweather was tasked to deliver a wedding an invitation to Maleficent. When she delivered the invitation to the castle, a couple of mischievous goons stole the invitation and scampered off with it
-When Maleficent was in her teen years, she wanted to go out and explore, but Quintessa wanted her daughter to stay in and study magic. Maleficent was bored, of course, but sometimes she would sneak out in the dead of night and run off with the one friend she had and they would go play jokes and tricks on humans
-Queen Stella died of a disease known as Specter Haze⊠a disease that Maleficent had created herself
-When she was around sixteen years old, Maleficent had fallen for a handsome troll named Grumio. He may have been good looking on the outside, but in reality, he was brutish, selfish, territorial, vain, arrogant, mean-spirited, manipulative, and boorish and he was only interested in Maleficentâs rare beauty, not for who she really was. He was able to forge a shallow relationship with Maleficent and she thought that relationship was full of love. But that was wishful thinking. Grumio was growing bored of Maleficent and he started seeing a beautiful female elf by the name of Lolita behind Maleficentâs back and when she found out⊠she was certainly not happy. When Maleficent told her mother what happened, Quintessa merely told her, âThatâs what you get for pursuing love. Love is weakness and itâs about time you learn that.â Feeling even more betrayed than ever, she ran away into the forest with tears of anger and sadness in her eyes
-The Three Good Fairies knew Maleficent when they were younger, but because of her dark practices and interest in black magic, they refused to associate themselves with her
-Maleficent had one friend in her childhood: a fairy by the name of Henbane. Henbane always had an affinity for all different kinds of poison, especially in plants and minerals. When they were young, Henbane and Maleficent were almost inseparable⊠until they reached their late teens. Henbane grew jealous of not only Maleficent's magical capabilities, but also her relationship with Grumio. The two fairies had a falling out about it and they decided that they shouldnât be friends anymore
-When Maleficent was all alone and at her lowest point, she decided that she wasnât going to let anyone hurt her again. So she travelled to Bald Mountain and took an oath to the Black God, Chernabog, and that was how she became the Mistress of All Evil
-After she gained her dark powers and new title, Maleficent ventured back home to confront the ones who had betrayed her: Henbane, Quintessa, and Grumio
-When Maleficent found Henbane, she confronted her one last time and said to her, âYou were never really my friend. You just wanted to keep me subdued so I wouldnât be better than you. Well, youâve been in my way long enough and I say itâs about time you were dealt with.â And with a wave of her scepter, Maleficent transformed her old friend into a henbane plant and she promptly squashed it underneath her feet
-Next, she confronted Grumio and Lolita; she found them kissing near a large pile of stones and boulders. She told him that he had lied to her and betrayed her and with a simple dismissive wave, Lolita and Grumio instantly turned to dust. But before he died, Grumio sneered at Maleficent and said, âI hate fairiesâ. And after the spell was cast, a gust of wind blew the piles of dust away
-And finally, Maleficent confronted her mother. Quintessa was shocked to see her daughter in such a way and she demanded to know what she was doing. Maleficent merely said, âYou may be my mother, but you never really loved me. All you ever did was hurt me⊠and now you must pay for that.â She grabbed Quintessa by the hair, dragged her outside, conjured up a large wooden stake, a pile of sticks and dry leaves, and some rope, and tied her mother to the stake. And with that, Maleficent set the sticks and leaves under Quintessa on fire and Quintessa was immediately engulfed in flames, screaming and crying out in agony as she was burned to a crisp. Maleficent only watched with a calm smile on her face, ignoring her motherâs pleas for help
-Many years before Maleficent was born, Lazarus and Quintessa used to live on a magical island called the Isle of Avalon where fairies of all kinds lived in harmony and peace⊠until they were both banished along with the rest of the dark fairies by Queen Mab when she discovered they were planning to overthrow her, take over, and rebuild the Isle in their image
-Before the day Aurora was born, Stefan and Leah were visited by the Greek Goddess of the Dawn and she told the royal couple that their child will be destined for great things
This is all Iâve got so far, but feel free to tell me what you think and tell me which one is your favorite

Sleeping Beauty and Her Knight
What exactly is capable of killing a dragon?
As fairytales would have it, the best solution for a dragon is to send a knight.
A long time ago I did a post on how the Tsukiyama arc as a whole is basically a whole plot reference to sleeping beauty, but with a slight inversion. Iâll be referencing mainly that post for Ui and Tsukiyamaâs section.Â
The arc in which Koori Ui is introduced into the manga, is a sleeping beauty reference. Not only that, but since that arc, Ui himself seems to have symbolically switched places with Tsukiyama. Originally, Tsukiyama was both the knight, and then sleeping beauty. Whereas, now it seems ever since their confrontation on Rueshima, Koori has been acting more and more like the knight.Â
Specifically, when Ui and Tsukiyama first confront each other Tsukiyama says that he owes Ui something for the Rose operation, and Ui responds that Tsukiyama owes something to him in term. Beforehand, Tsukiyama was the victim of the story, either the hapless prince, or the princess lying in the bed. From Uiâs perspective though, Tsukiyama is the rose garden.Â
Both in what the ghoul âRoseâ referred to, Kanae von Rosewald whose name means forest of Roses, and also what the operation meant to Ui as a whole. As the operation is what caused him to lose Hairu. In other words, Tsukiyama stole her away from him in a way.Â
In the original version of the tale, after the princess falls asleep she is surrounded by a forest of trees, brambles, and thorns (which roses have), in order to shield it from the outside world and save the princess.  In the original tale too, what causes the princess to sleep is a prick of a needle. Matsumaeâs kagune heavily resembles the vine walls that eventually surround the princess.Â
Matsumae, is what pierces Hairu.Â
Oddly enough what we see before her death is not a character explanation or a flashback as most characters get, but rather what seems to be Hairu dreaming herself.Â
Itâs even referenced in her art in the volume 5 omake.Â
Hairu is referred to as a princess several times as well, most notably by Kijima.Â
So in this version of the story, Hairu is pricked by Roseâs needle and becomes a sleeping princess. Much later, Ui is told of the possibility that he can bring her back.
However, to do so he must face a dragon first. It seems also that Ui was at least clued in on part of the dragon plan as Furuta goes out of his way to explain the whole thing to him after the fact. So unlike Suzuya, Ui probably knew a little more and knew his actions in the 24th ward would be part of creating dragon.
There actually is no dragon in the Grimm version, but remember painting with a wide brush here so the pop culture (ie the disney) sleeping beauty and the original one are probably equally worthy as reference material.Â
In the disney version of the tale, thereâs a direct and acting antagonist in Maleficent. Whereas in the original version the old fairy who curses sleeping beauty shows up at the beginning, and then never again and her curse is just a destiny to be avoided throughout the story. Though, I might say the destiny to die young before ever reaching maturity, and have that determined since birth does have a lot of common with the garden children who are cursed from birth to live 1/4 lives.
The irony is whether Ui actually took Hairu to the rose operation or not, without an elixir of life she would have died early regardless. Which is what Sleeping Beauty is ultimately about thematically, a princess trying to escape an otherwise inescapable curse through some loophole. That remains consistent between the two stories, the disney version just has an antagonist that is present throughout.Â
In the disney version, Maleficent goes out of her way to capture Phillip just as the kingdom falls asleep. (In the Grimm version a prince just kind of wanders there 100 years later... I doubt thatâs going to happen with this story). To summarize the Disney version though, Maleficentâs plan is to hold Phillip captive until heâs an old man and then force him to as an old man, try to brave the thorns and save the princess then. Either way she detains his agency for a long time, and then heâs released by the interference of the good fairies.Â
In a similar manner, Furuta lied and kept Ui next to his side for a long time. Ui even literally says that he was in chains, and he chose himself to chain himself to the reaper.
Even in the Disney Story, it was Maleficentâs intention for Aurora to be eventually woken up. If everything had gone according to Maleficentâs scenario though, by the time she did wake up her beloved prince would be a feeble old man that could not help her. In the same way, Furutaâs intention seems to have been to create a being capable of recreating life, but he was also stringing Ui along on the belief that this could be applied directly to Hairu and Arima.Â
In the Disney version when the fairies try to interfere in her scenario and wake up the princess early by freeing the knight to go cut through the brambles and save her (which in this version are set up by maleficent herself, whereas in the Grimm version they were set up by the good fairies as a way of protecting her for 100 years), then and only then is the dragon summoned. As a way of making sure that everything goes according to Maleficentâs planned out narrative for her revenge.Â
Which matches near perfectly with what we see at the end of this chapter. Ui is told that Furutaâs narrative wonât work out for him, that he wonât get the sleeping princess by simply following to Furutaâs plan, but he stands up and decides to face the dragon anyway.
You could also tie this to the thematic roll of sleeping and dreams in sleeping beauty. Ui spends a great deal of time dreaming. Possibly ever since Hairu died, the chapter immediately after where he realizes her death is called âDream.â
From that point forward, Ui clings to her memory. Ui even says so himself, he did not really ultimately believe in Furuta, but was looking for some kind of refuge. Dreaming, the same way that Sasaki did.
When faced with reality though, Uiâs choice ultimately is important. Instead of choosing to give up even after being told it was hopeless, Ui stands again. Not only that but the person who seemed to be his enemy, suddenly again became his ally when the chips were down.
Ironically, being told that there was no chance at all to revive Hairu seems to have revitalized Ui rather than breaking him down as he feared all along.
Perhaps what Furuta said a long time ago is coming to pass. Ui actually didnât need a reason to fight all along. It was his seeking a reason that made him this way.
The same way that Kaneki seeking a reason through Touka, seems to have been what unintentionally among other things what led him to his demise and his current rampage.
Ultimately though, if what Ui has done in this moment and the growth heâs experienced does not lead to a Hairu revival, it could lead back to Kaneki. What Kaneki essentially needs to grasp is that he like Ui, doesnât really even need a reason to fight. Uiâs been fighting all along without a reason, and he can still do, he can still pick himself up and live even when told itâs completely hopeless. Being told exactly what it is he feared hearing the most did the opposite, itâs reignited Uiâs hope.
[x] @silverbulletsama
The fact that if anything, Kanekiâs seven thousand revivals and rebirths means this. That there was never any point from which he could recover from, that there was never no hope. Even at his lowest point and having all of his absolute worst fears come true, that Kaneki can still survive and still fight.
As I said above thereâs two paths forward. That Furuta is right and there is no chance of reviving Hairu, in that case Iâd likely expect the manga to end with just a dragon Kaneki fight the same way Tokyo Ghoul ended with the fighting of both Owlâs.Â
However if the opposite is true if revival is still on the table, specifically after Kanekiâs destruction is tamed down and he begins to be capable of recreating life again, then thematically that would return us to the story of sleeping beauty.Â
In the disney version the story proceeds simply from this point. With the help of the fairies, the prince once he learns the truth, defeats the dragon and awakens the princess. Ui has a lot in common with a knight, first thereâs his weapon, a poelarm, or a spear which resembles what a knight on horseback would carry.
Uiâs hobby is riding horses in his free time, and his aspiration is to be chivarlous like a knight. He holds onto the fantasy of the CCG acting as heroes of justice, and holding a certain code of honor to be better than the situation which they are in. He also has ties to Arima as a teacher, and Arima in the past several times has been referred to as a knight.Â
Which would make thematically, Ui his squire I supposed until he decided to succeed him.
Hairu is the princess, Ui is the knight, Dragon itself is the Dragon. Of course, as Ui is reminded by Furuta things are actually much more complicated than that. Even if hypothetically defeating dragon leads to Hairuâs direct revival perhaps by means of Kanou or some immortality elixir crafted from the remains of Dragon, thereâs still one missing piece left in Uiâs character arc.
Ui has no idea at all about the garden or even Arimaâs true ancestry and purpose. It seems odd to resolve Uiâs character without this important note being brought to him.
In the second part of the fairy tale, unknowingly there is someone of secret ogre lineage connected to the prince, who tries to eat his children.Â
After wedding the Princess in secret, the Prince continues to visit her and she bears him two children, Aurore (Dawn) and Jour (Day), unbeknown to his mother, who is of an ogre lineage. When the time comes for the Prince to ascend the throne, he brings his wife, children, and the talabutte ("Count of the Mount").
The Ogress Queen Mother sends the young Queen and the children to a house secluded in the woods and directs her cook to prepare the boy with Sauce Robert for dinner. The kind-hearted cook substitutes a lamb for the boy, which satisfies the Queen Mother.
Being secretly connected to a race of people who eat humans is the last of the bombshells that Hairu has to drop on Ui. It seems to have been Hairuâs purpose in the story from the start anyway, to be connected to the garden.Â
The lack of closure on the garden children seems odd too, as Yusa puts it. Even if they defeat Kaneki here, theyâre not going to at this point achieve anything like the world Kaneki wanted. Most of the garden children at this point are dead, and no sympathy or even justice has been paid their way. Thereâs also the calendar to consider which shows Hairu as an Ukkaku.Â
@tgcalendar2016
The calendar which I might remind you has never lied. So a part two of the sleeping beauty fairy tale which deals with the prince having to deal with Ogres who eat people to protect his marriage and his childre, the hints that Hairu would be returning as a one eyed ghoul despite being told at several points that such a thing is impossible, and the overall lack of a sunlit garden arc or true explanation of the garden even though itâs been built the whole story.
The fact that Furuta too seems to not have died the way he intended too, and is instead forced to live and explain the consequences of his actions to Ui.
All of that seems to point to a sunlit garden arc in the aftermath of all of this destruction, where Ui, perhaps with a Hairu on his side, or perhaps a version of Hairu he has to care for as a consequence for his recklessness in trying to revive her acting as a continuation to this arc.Â
In a character sense too, it would have made no sense for Ui to be rewarded (this is in a character development sense not using people as rewards) with getting what he wants, to see Hairu again by going off the deep end and indulging in all of his worst habits.
However, it does make sense for Ui, to be told that heâll never receive what he wants and that his actions ultimately led to ruin, who is then capable of picking himself back up again, reaffirming his bond with Take and once again experiencing positive development, to then be rewarded with what it was he was seeking.Â
Either way I donât think this is the end of Uiâs arc, because even if his reason to fight has been squared away, he hasnât addressed the humanity of ghouls at all. Which is something that him finding out about the garden and the true wishes of Arima that he seems to have been built up to face for a long time.Â
Thatâs the best summary I can give of Uiâs arc for now though, even when it all seems hopeless, thereâs still some hope that can be grasped.Â

Just when her bodyguard Pascal Duvier thought he was in the clear of any responsibility- BAM! Boy gets hit with a 6.1 million dollar lawsuit. Now, itâs not Kim Kardashian directly who wants her money back. Kim, intelligently, has insured all that fancy jewelry that was violently taken from her that night as she was gagged and held at gun point. Even though they found some of the bad guys that orchestrated the Paris robbery, she never got her jewels back. So she opened a claim with her insurance company that had insured both the 4.5 million dollar ring and the 5.6 million dollar jewelry box which were both taken from her. Naturally, her insurance company is likeâŠ. Oh Hell. We ainât got that kind of money. Now they DID pay Kim a total of $6,116,067 but theyâve now refocused their attention on Pascal Duvier, Kim Kâs ex security guard who was âreassignedâ to another client immediately following the robbery, and theyâre suing HIM for the same amount they paid Kim, claiming Duvier and Protect Security QUOTE ânegligently, carelessly, and/or recklessly performed their protection, security, monitoring, inspection, and/or surveying ofâ Kardashian West and the Hotel. Duvier and Protect Security QUOTE âshould have known that they were required to protect, secure, monitor, inspect, and/or survey ⊠using the skill and care reasonably expected of those in this industry.â
They also claim that on that fateful night when Kimâs sisters left Kim at the apartment while the rest of the gang went clubbing, Pascal left Kardashian West alone in her room and failed to address and correct several security breaches, including a missing or broken lock, a malfunctioning intercom and the lack of closed circuit television in the building. The company also says the buildingâs concierge QUOTE âdid not have any security training and/or background.â Honestly, I donât know. IS it partly Pascalâs fault that this whole incident went down? I guess a judge will determine THAT. The whole orfdeal was pretty horrific for Kim. QUOTE âThey grabbed me and took me into the hallway. I was wearing a bathrobe, naked underneath. Then we went in the room again and they pushed me on the bed. And, it was this time, they tied me up with plastic cables and taped my hands, then they put tape over my mouth and my legs. I called my bodyguard at 2:56 a.m.â
While five men disguised in police uniforms forcefully entered Kimâs room, gagged and bound her, Duvier was with sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner. But it wouldnât be that strange for Pascal to be dispatched to be with Kourtney or the other family members once Kim was âsafelyâ in her residence. And it was his job to provide security for the whole family â not just Kim. What say you, my Clevver friends? Should this dude whoâs already gone bankrupt be forced to pay out 6.1 Mil? Audreyâs Attitude About Men
BriEva wrote:
Crap something else popped into my head.
Audrey.
So, HOW much of the original Sleeping Beauty story will be applied to Aurora?
I already know that Maleficent's background was based [o]ff of the movie but what about Aurora?
The reason why I'm asking is because of Audrey's constant belief that she WILL be taken advantage of. That men will do this or that to her. I understand that Auradon Prep is based off of a religious school, and that as royal's they are expected to be virtuous.
But rereading it again, because I'm addicted, it once again dawned on m[e] how off Audrey's views on men [are]. Leading me to two concerns.
One, is that Aurora while sleeping was raped as in the original story and had multiple children. Which I don't know what happened to those kids. Either they starved to death or were taken somewhere and raised.
The other being that Prince Phillip is NOT a good man and Aurora does not love him as she used to.
I definitely donât want to go as dark and rape-y as the Grimm version. I am mostly taking from the live action Maleficent for their back stories, twisted so it would fit into LOE. The only element I am taking from the cartoon/original story is the 100 years they slept under the curse, and that is to add to the dynamic of the relationship between Maleficent and Auroraâs family. Itâll be explained more in future chapters, so I donât want to give too much away.
Audreyâs perception of men I think comes from the culture that she grew up in, rather than any firsthand experience her mother or anyone close to her has had. In real life, I think girls and women see a lot of this type of warning as they grow up, where the onus of sexual activityâeven rapeâis placed on their shoulders (âWhy did you get drunk? What were you wearing?â etcâŠ). And conversely, boys and men cannot be blamed for their actionsâeven rapeâas they just do what is in their nature (âBoys will be boysâ). While laws against rape are on the books, in practice it's the only crime where the victim has to prove their innocence before the accused. So women are told not to tempt or be alone with men. So anything that happens is their fault as they could have somehow avoided the situation.
I think this is pretty pervasive in modern culture.
So Audrey has grown up where she has to be ultra-aware and careful of what she does around men. Not only to avoid aggression, but as a female royal her âworthâ is tied to her virtue. Now in the past, this not only stemmed from a religious aspect but also a practical one in terms of how men viewed women as property. Women, especially royal women, were not seen as wives in the sense of a life partner, but a woman who was theirs to run their castle and bear their heirs. Since they did not have paternity tests, virginity was stressed in women so as to not give doubt as to the sire of their children. If a woman was willing to sleep with more than one man, then it was near impossible to guarantee that the man wasnât being cuckolded. There still was no guarantee even if the woman was a virgin at marriage, but the potential of a pretender to the throne or to an estate was seen as a great sin and put everything they had at risk; which is why you see (other than general misogyny) such a harsher reaction if a wife cheats rather than a husband. Weâre always going to know who the mother is, if the father is in doubt then it could mean the end of dynasties and also lead to war over land/money/titles. So itâs one reason why women are given so many rules of conduct as to minimize any doubt.
And we see a particularly patriarchal dynamic in Auroria (based off live action Maleficent). King Henry had a legitimate daughter, and was NEVER going to leave his throne to her. We see while he is on his deathbed that he was supposed to name an heir, because of the war with the Moor he decided to give the kingdom to whomever could kill âthe winged creature.â This to me suggests that before the conflict, he probably would have named a noble or one of his advisers, probably also nobly born. So not only would he not leave his kingdom to his legitimate only child, he had no problem leaving it to someone as lowborn as Stefan. So king Henry saw even an orphaned shepherd boy (who probably knows fuckall about diplomacy and running a kingdom) as more fit for his throne than a girl who had been born and raised royal AND of his own blood.
We also see this dynamic is accepted by the people of Auroria. They accepted Stefan as king, and even when he started to go mad they still followed him instead of trying to raise queen Leah as regent.
So for Auroria, we can see that not only is the line of succession strictly male primogeniture, it actively excludes women even in the instances of no other direct heir. And further, the kingâs power is absolute. If the king says an orphan shepherd boy turned kingâs groom can become king, then they obey. If the king goes mad trying to fight a powerful fairy, still they obey.
So whatâs at stake for the throne of Auroria is absolute power, probably now only second to King Adam and his house, and all the wealth. For Audrey as the only child and female, she has to marry well as her husband will be the next king of Auroria. In order to marry well, she has to be seen as a perfect potential wife. Other kingdoms have the same issue, what is at stake is their title/land/money. So marrying well and having legitimate children is the only way to protect their inheritances. Husbands can sire an army of bastards, who cares. They know the mother is not their wife so their children canât inherit. Wives, on the other hand, could try to pawn off a bastard as a legitimate heir. While we have paternity tests and whatnot now, if the husband doesnât suspect anything then they probably would never know or even think to ask for one. So itâs always important to keep up a virtuous image.
Also this patriarchal dynamic bleeds into what women can expect from marriage. Where men hold all the real power, who is to gainsay them? So if they take multiple partners outside the marriage bed, who is to stop them? Queen Leah lay dying and Stefan still couldnât be moved to see her. Leah was a princess and king Henryâs only daughter, she was passed over for an orphaned shepherd boy. Stefan banished his daughter to live with fairies, who knows if Leah had any choice in thatâI highly doubt it. So I see Audrey learning she has no real power, and if her husband is to stray from the marriage bed then she must accept it and still act with grace and dignity because she is a royal. I mostly see her learning this from Leah, not Aurora.

When did you first realize you were into whump?
Hm, I didnât have that name for it, but I knew that I was enjoying parts of stories that my friends really werenât when I was very very young.Â
Like, when I watched Sleeping Beauty, the part where Maleficent chains up Prince Phillip was ENDLESSLY fascinating to me. I looooooved that scene and never could understand why no one else did. I fucking lost my shit over the mind control scene in C.S. Lewisâs The Silver Chair, I read it over and over and over again. I always had a weakness for books/movies/shows where the âgoodâ guys end up in situations where it seems hopeless and like the bad guys have won.Â
Oh man, okay, hereâs a good one. When I was very very young, I watched the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Green Ranger - a good guy turned evil - was just like my favorite fucking thing on earth and I was so so disappointed when they made him a good guy again.
Why do you love whump?
I really like exploring people who are damaged by the actions/behavior of another person purposefully acting to destroy them, and how they would recover or not recover over the course of time and in different situations or with different people helping them.Â
Also, um, I just like people who get tied up real nice, itâs not really that intellectual all the time. Sometimes you just want to see a pretty lady or a handsome man wearing leather gloves wielding a knife, you know?
Are you interested in any niche whump genres, such as fem!whump or non-human whump?
Depends! Fem!whump is rougher for me and I rarely write or read it but sometimes I definitely enjoy a good lady whumper or whumpee. In that event I definitely prefer a female whumper over a female whumpee.
I do love a good nonhuman whumpee! You know, Iâve never really written one that wasnât at least humanoid in appearance or who acted largely human but I do love to read them!

One Direction is NOT getting back together, according to Harry Stylesâ BFF and BBC radio host Nick Grimshaw.
Since when is âbreaking a million heartsâ part of a radio DJâs job description?
Nick Grimshaw hosted his last BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show yesterday, and to the delight of thousands of One Direction fans listening, he played âDrag Me Downâ as part of his send off.
Nick has interviewed the 1D guys many times in the past, and heâs also one of Harry Stylesâ closest friends, so itâs no surprise that he played one of the last songs the band recorded as a group during his final show. But it was the comment Nick made AFTER the song ended that had Directioners SHOOK.
As âDrag me Downâ finished playing, Nick came back on the radio and commented QUOTE, âWhen we started this show [One Direction] were all together as a five pieceâŠDo you think theyâll ever get back together?â He then immediately answered his own question, saying QUOTE, âNo, not a chance. Itâs not happening is it?â
Umm, what?! Itâs possible that Nick was just making a throwaway comment or just making a wild guess, but because heâs got such close ties to the 1D guys â and particularly Harry â some Directioners took this theory as more than just a shot in the dark.
One Direction has been on hiatus since 2016, and theyâve all been focused on individual projects ever since. So itâs not crazy to suggest that the hiatus isnât ending anytime soon. But the idea of them not getting back together like, EVER? *TAYLOR SWIFT VOICE* We refuse to accept it.
And at least for now, we donât have to. Despite Nickâs remarks yesterday, the 1D guys have talked about reuniting on multiple occasions. In fact, Liam Payne told the Daily Star earlier this summer QUOTE, âItâs amazing that weâre doing our own thing and then, hopefully one day soon, we get back together and have another great time of it, who knows?â
So there you have it â One Direction is STILL planning on a comeback at some point, according to an actual MEMBER himself. Sorry Nick, but your heartbreaking theories are not welcome here.
Alright guys now I wanna hear your thoughts on this â do you think Nick has some insider info about 1Dâs status that we donât know about? And I donât even wanna ask, but do you think heâs right? Sound off in the comments with all your thoughts and theories below.
