randomkiwibirds replied to your post: What are your favorite pride and prejudice...
Mr. Darcy’s Diary by Amanda Grange is my favourite retelling. It’s bascially P&P from Darcy’s POV But like you can feel his character development as the story progresses, and her characterization I feel is spot on - (Amanda Grange also does diaries for the other Austen’ “Boys” (and Wickham) which I have also read and recommend)
i just added it to my to-read list!!!!! very interested in this thank youuuu!!!!!

Have you tried Julie James for contemporaries? They’re delightfully bantery.
I haven’t! I’ll have to put her on the list to check out.

I’m not very well-read in the genre, but there are two recent reads I’ve enjoyed. The Art of Three (Maltese & McRae) is about an older m/f couple meeting a younger man, and realizing that they’re serious about him and having to figure out how that will work. Eligible (Sittenfeld) is a modern Pride&Prejudice retelling set in the States that did some really great things adapting it to the new setting - the daughters are older, there are queer characters, etc.
Well, I’m all about poly, I’ll definitely have to look out for that! I did read their “A Queen from the North” and found the FMC difficult to like in places, but I’m definitely willing to give them another shot. And I’m all about clever Austen modern AUs!

Panda has me reading things by KJ Charles who does excellent queer historical romance. The one she started me with was the casebook of Simon feximal but I just started another series from her that I’ve forgotten the name of because I just started it lol. I’ll message it to you shortly! She’s really wonderful - I love her style
I read her “Wanted, a Gentleman” and haven’t done any of her others! Though my impression has always been that she tends to stick towards the 19th century England side of things?

I would definitely check out Courtney Milan’s contemporaries. I loved Trade Me and Hold Me. Also, I love Sarina Bowen. Of her stuff, I’d probably start with The Year We Fell Down.
I’ve never heard of Sarina Bowen! I’ll have to look up “The Year We Fell Down.”

Review: "First Impressions" by Debra White Smith
Review: “First Impressions” by Debra White Smith
If you put “Jane Austen retelling” in a sentence, and you have my attention. Add the “inspirational” genre to that description, and I’m even more interested!
Lawyer Eddi Boswick tries out for a production of Pride and Prejudice in her small Texas town. When she’s cast as the lead, Elizabeth Bennet, her romantic co-star is none other than the town’s most eligible–and arrogant–bachelor.
