They sell prefab houses on AliExpress!? Has anyone ever brought one?
Like in the current NZ housing market I could totally see someone buying one - tbh with NZ building standards being what they are it might end up being better built than many of our shoddy "homes" /the repairs might end up being cheaper... Not that I own any land to put one on or could afford even a prefab... Well maybe one of the dubious forty dollar shipping container looking ones but still that's buzzy as... Prefab houses have always been a big thing here in NZ and loads of them are pretty crummy but cost like your soul and arms and legs (I window shop trademe property and nosey at what's for sale and even the most munted scody abandoned houses in the middle of nowhere are WELL out of my price range)
I'm curious about how scammy these are I'm guessing there's other prefab companies people would go through that aren't from a wholeseller on the other side of the world thst would be difficult to contact if what shows up ends up being a lego model of a house

But finding affordable and functional studio space can be a challenge, especially in urban areas.
This is where prefab studios come in, offering a unique and sustainable solution for those seeking a dedicated workspace.
What are prefab studios?
Prefab studios are pre-fabricated buildings designed specifically for creative pursuits.
They are typically constructed off-site in controlled factory environments, ensuring high quality and efficiency.
Once complete, the studios are then transported to their final location and assembled, minimizing disruption and construction time.

Week 7 presentation
Evolve is designed to provide part of a suggested solution to the current housing crisis in New Zealand. This proposal takes a holistic approach to address many interconnected themes from health, well-being, strengthened communities, social and financial states; to more financially and environmentally sustainable ways of building and living.
This proposal separates itself from the current international prefabricated and modular housing market, by incorporating a solution that is tailored to our needs, but also encourages adaptability to promote longer term residency, promoting stronger & more resilient communities. This design encourages socializing, play and informal living within an ecological structure.
The lifecycle of evolve follows a systems design approach which allows inhabitants to add, swap and subtract spaces (within a refined framework) to suit their changing needs when convenient.
Precedents
These are some precedent case studies I've chosen based on their similar design qualities.
Crosson architects designed this sled system to retreat back in land due to rising sea levels.
Group architects designed this 1950s prefab home to be a solution to the housing crisis after WWII. It was suited to New Zealand's climate and way of living incorporating natural light and standardisation building methods.
Hero
My proposal has been designed to suit a range of properties around NZ. This is an example site in Gisborne and was chosen for its below average 600 square meter section size and flat topography - which are parameters of my design.
Depending on where the user's site is located, they will be encouraged to plant native vegetation to that area - which overtime will start to regenerate that sites natural ecology. The type of cladding finishing will also be determined based on the sites location so overtime as the timber ages it will start to blend in to the natural environment.
This particular example shows a 3 person family deciding to add on a 2 bedroom and living module arrangement to benefit their predicted growing family.
Design components
This is a simplified diagram indicating the main layers to my design.
The permanent shell and core components
The 3 interchange module components  which make up one complete arrangement.
The interior practical elements of the design and environment.
Plan
This shows the permanent core and shell part of my design.
The core is made up of bedroom, living, kitchen and bathroom spaces.
The living, kitchen and bathroom are designed to comfortably accommodate for up to 5 people.
Modules
Users can choose a combination of module components to make up an arrangement that benefits their changing needs.
(talk about model)
Situations
Rather than personas I’ve decided to create some situations or scenarios to design for.
To the left are some possible scenarios that my design could cater for. They show the user and their initial build, and how the design adapts to change in circumstances that the inhabitants may go through.
To the right is my chosen example scenario that I am basing my design on.
The scenario starts with a single occupant + tenet, additional inhabitant moves in, couple have kids, kids begin to move out and grandparent moves in, grandparent passes away and couple decide to rent out the module unit again creating a circular system.
Perspectives
These are examples of how the design caters for those inhabitants and the change in circumstance they go through throughout a lifetime of living.
(Talk about design)
Design specifics
This diagram shows the more specific qualities of the design
Designed to be warm, healthy, with good quality materials and easy to maintain.
Solar energy, water collection and gardening encouraging self sufficient sustainable ways of living

Exploring the Safety and Innovation of Architectural Prefab Homes in NZ
Tumblr media
Prefabricated homes, often referred to as architectural prefab homes NZ, represent a modern approach to housing construction that blends safety, efficiency, and innovation.
Contrary to misconceptions, these homes are built to adhere to stringent building codes, offering residents a secure and comfortable living environment.
Here's a closer look at why architectural prefab homes in NZ are both safe and innovative.
Building Codes Compliance:
Prefabricated homes in New Zealand are constructed in compliance with the country's building codes, ensuring they meet rigorous safety standards.
These codes cover various aspects of construction, including structural integrity, fire safety, insulation, and electrical systems.
Architects and builders meticulously design and assemble prefab homes to meet or exceed these requirements, providing homeowners with peace of mind regarding safety and structural durability.
Quality Materials:
The materials used in architectural prefab homes in NZ are carefully selected for their durability, sustainability, and performance.
Timber and long-run steel are common choices due to their strength, versatility, and availability in the New Zealand housing market.
These materials undergo rigorous testing to ensure they can withstand the country's diverse climatic conditions, including high winds, seismic activity, and moisture exposure.
Innovative Design:
Architectural prefab homes in NZ offer innovative design solutions that cater to diverse aesthetic preferences and functional needs. From sleek modern designs to traditional architectural styles, prefab homes can be customized to reflect the unique vision of homeowners.
Advanced design software and manufacturing techniques enable architects to create bespoke homes that optimize space, natural light, and energy efficiency while adhering to strict safety standards.
Efficient Construction Process:
One of the key advantages of prefab homes is their efficient construction process. Components are manufactured off-site in controlled factory environments, reducing construction time and minimizing on-site disruptions.
The assembly process follows precise engineering specifications, ensuring consistency and accuracy in the final product. This streamlined approach not only enhances safety but also reduces construction waste and environmental impact.
Conclusion:
Architectural prefab homes in NZ represent a convergence of safety, quality, and innovation in residential construction. By adhering to building codes, utilizing quality materials, embracing innovative design, and employing efficient construction methods, prefab homes offer homeowners a compelling alternative to traditional building techniques.
As the demand for sustainable and resilient housing grows, architectural prefab homes continue to redefine the future of homeownership in New Zealand.
