I’m writing this update with 78 minutes on the clock in the France v Australia game, so with just 45 minutes to go, I’m taking a real gamble posting this now, but I’m sure it’ll be fine.
Drama eh? Who saw that result coming in the Argentina v Saudi Arabia game? Well, Tom and Alex based on their returns. Alex correctly predicted there’d be enough goals while Tom nailed the Argentine corner count. Neil naively thought Saudi Arabia would lose and was rightly punished.
Absolutely nothing happened in the Denmark v Tunisia game, to everyone’s disappointment. Similarly nothing happened in the Mexico v Poland game, but Alex was broadly supportive of this, having chosen a draw among his betting options.
Then to the France v Australia match. Despite the Aussies taking an early lead, four French goals (there’s now 84 minutes on the clock, so I’m prepared to accept this might not be accurate soon) delivered wins for everybody (again, if Australia go mad in the final minutes, Neil won’t be happy).
So, that final game saw our first triple win of the tournament and completed Alex’s hat-trick for the day with his first three wins of the World Cup. A brace for Tom and just the one for Neil means we’ve all had three a piece from the opening eight.
Here’s how we stand after day three:
Alex: £3.74 DOWN
Neil: £2.03 DOWN
Tom: £3.88 DOWN
It’s not quite been that exciting a start all round. We went very, very timid for day three. It led to a big loss for Neil, who slips out of profit, a middling loss for Tom and a slight profit for Alex. Will day four see us a bit braver? Here’s what we’re after.
Alex:
Morocco v Croatia, Croatia HT, Croatia FT - 2/1
Germany v Japan, over 1.5 goals in game - 1/5
Spain v Costa Rica, over 1.5 goals in game, over 0.5 cards in game, over 4.5 corners in game - 1/6
Belgium v Canada, over 2.5 goals in game - 8/11
Neil:
Morocco v Croatia, in the first ten minutes, no corners, a goal kick taken, each team to take a throw in and a shot on target - 9/2
Germany v Japan, under 3.5 goals - 8/15
Spain v Costa Rica, Spain to score 2+ goals, 5+ Spain corners and 20+ Costa Rica booking points - 6/4
Belgium v Canada, Kevin de Bruyne to have 2+ shots on target - 3/1
Tom:
Morocco v Croatia, Croatia to win or lead by two goals at any point in the game - 1/1
Germany v Japan, Germany to score 1+ goals and 4+ German corners - 1/4
Spain v Costa Rica, Pedri to have at least one shot on target - 6/5
Belgium v Canada, Belgium to score 2+ goals and 5+ Belgian corners - 11/8
Good news. I think France must have won the game because I’m a Celebrity is on. Well done Neil.
