Revised Lyrical Essay (2/4)
Who Am I?
I am asked who I am?
What makes me who I am?
My name defines who I am.
Multiple of them that mean different things.
Bina Pratima Bipat.
Yeah, that’s a mouthful.
Comes straight from my culture.
The signs they say. The signs tell it all.
Taking my birth time and the stars gave me my name.
Well the B in Bina.
But for as long as I can remember
I am asked to pronounce my name.
Again.
I want to say it the correct way.
Maybe for once.
I’m asked what my name is, and I stumble.
I start and then I stop.
Bina.
The meaning of my name they ask.
Knowledge, insight.
People say it’s very interesting.
They ask if I’m sure it's not B E E N A?
Of course I’m sure.
But now you have me question myself…
Is it truly this way?
Yes, that’s what my mom says.
I wear it proudly.
That is my name.
B I N A.
Now Pratima.
That’s my middle name.
I barely even use it.
It means a sacred image.
My grandmother pick it.
Said it fit well with Bina.
Pratima.
P R A T I M A.
My last name is Bipat.
Means hardship.
Oh yes, hardship.
Never heard of this name before.
This is such a weird name.
But its mine.
B I P A T.
I remember my mom saying it was the best name ever.
I don’t know about that but its definitely something.
Oh my mother. The crazy lady who raised me.
Only said things for the best.
Gives me so much advice.
“Wash the clothes on Saturday and fold them.
Wash the dishes on Tuesday and put them in the cabinet.
Don’t walk without your keys.
Soak your contacts after you take them off.
When buying a top to make yourself a nice outfit.
Be sure that it does have stains on it.
Soak the chicken overnight before you cook it.
You mustn’t speak to strangers, not even for a second.”
I know mom. You’ve only said this 1000 times today.
“Don’t eat outside food-we have food home.
This is how to make a fold in the shirt.
This is how to put away the clothes you don’t need but continue to buy.
This is how to open the curtain and let the sun in.
This is how to do more than just sit on the couch and act all lazy.
This is how you sweep a corner.
This is how you sweep a whole house.
This is how you water the plants
This is how you smile to someone you don’t like at all.
This is how you smile to someone you like.
This is how you smile to someone you don’t know.”
Are you telling me this for me or for you?
“This is how you dress to go out.
This is how you dress with company.
This is how you dress for a party.
This is how you dress for dinner.
This is how you dress in the house
This is how to behave in the presence of company who don’t know you very well.
Be sure to oil your hair, even twice a day.”
I hate doing it but you still make me.
“Don’t yell when playing card-its not ladylike.
Don’t take things from people-you know its wrong.
Don’t throw food for the birds, because it might attract more than birds.
This is how to make custard.
This is how to make chicken curry.
This is how to make pepper pot.”
I don’t want to know how to make this.
“This is how to find a good job.
This is how to find a bad job.
This is how to enjoy a job.
This is how to do a job even if you don’t want to.
This is how to decide live.”
Why are you telling me how to live?
“This is how to act quickly if it turns upside down.
This is how to make ends meet.
Always check your clothes to make sure it’s pristine.”
Is there ever just nothing to say?
No.
She says it for a reason.
That reason being me.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t respond.
I know she means well but it’s annoying.
Why can’t I just live how I want?
Can you just stop?
I swear it the same meaning, different words every time.
I have memories that make me sad and happy.
Some that make me smile.
Some that make me want to cry.
I remember being so free.
Free? Is that even a thing?
I remember wanting to grow up immediately.
I need to stop and just live.
I remember graduating with my head held high
I remember total frustration over how to fold a shirt.
I remember “crazy 8’s”, “blackjack”, “trump”, and “war.”
I remember the stories about living back home.
Back home? That does not even seem like home.
I remember being more than a bit disappointed over not living in a castle.
I remember spinning a chair until I saw two of everything.
I remember pizza parties.
I remember dad jokes that weren’t funny at all.
I remember riddles that were so hard to find a reply.
I remember “monopoly” and “snakes & ladders.”
I remember Disney movies that took up my life.
I remember, when a I lied, trying to look so innocent.
You know you were not innocent.
I remember my fantasies of seeing the lights of every city in the night.
I remember stories about how life would have been different if we didn’t move here.
I remember rumors that we would sell our home and never return.
I remember fantasies of what I would say to the family that thinks they could judge me.
Fantasy turned reality.
I remember awkward silent moments.
I remember having daily ice cream trips.
I remember drawing outside of the lines like it didn’t matter.
I remember dressing up for Halloween to collect candy from the neighbors.
I remember emptying your whole bag to find the tiny lip balm at the bottom.
I remember sleepily nights watching television.
I remember how exhausting it was to start the next day.
It was your choice to stay up all night.
I remember getting up every morning for school at the same time.
I remember birthday parties, being the center of attention.
I hate attention.
I remember trying not to cry at sad endings.
I can’t help it. I just happens.
I remember the exact moment, I found out we were going on vacation.
Trying my hardest to stop smiling.
I remember being on the plane so excited for us to takeoff.
I remember daydreaming throughout school.
Never knowing what topic we were on.
I remember forgetting I had more than one name.
How do you even forget that?
Not realizing I was being spoken to.
I remember asking why my name is what it was.
I remember saying goodbye to my friends.
I remember a dream of living my best life and then waking up to reality.
I remember starting college.
One semester down. A million more to go.
I don’t know but hopefully it works out.
Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong.
You do.
I feel like my life isn’t meeting full potential.
It makes me wonder is it worth living?
It is.
Don’t let anyone tell you different.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I said before, the first big project I did in this class was the Lyrical Essay. I chose this to include this piece in my portfolio because it is my first post on this blog and was a milestone of completing half of the course. This essay is a composition of mimic poetry using the poems “Unlearning My Name” by Mohamed Hassan, “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid, and “I Remember” by Joe Brainard. “Unlearning My Name” by Mohamed Hassan helped me breakdown my full name. “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid broke down things you would hear from someone close to you. “I Remember” by Joe Brainard helped me discuss different memories throughout my life that I remember. Being able to mimic these poems were a journey in itself as I was stuck at first but once I started, the ideas kept flowing. Originally I had this essay as only mimicking the poems and a few lines to make them flow together. I had not changed much about them and stuck to the same format the writers had already done. When I reviewed my piece for revising, I realized I wanted to hear my own voice outside of what I had put. I chose to get rid of some of the lines in my original poem and include my reaction and response to the words being said. I put my voice in italics and changed the color of the words to emphasize the change in who is speaking. I want to show that I can step away from the outline given and add my own unique touch to make it my own. I felt like this was the right piece to use as it represents what makes me who I am while showing the emotions I feel throughout my life.
My parents had options, but Bina was best.
So yeah, it’s Bina.
That it sounds and I look so Indian.
I spent my life correcting people.
My name easier to say than most.
They ask if I’m sure it's not B E E N A?
Yes, I’m sure.
But I question myself:
Is it truly this way?
Yes, that’s what my mom says.
No, I won’t allow them to doubt me.
I wear it proudly.
That is my name.
Now Pratima.
That’s my middle name.
Much longer than my first but less used.
So I’m stuck with a name I don’t use.
My last name is Bipat.
Oh yes, hardship.
Never heard of this name before.
Sounds quite odd together.
But its mine.
B I P A T.
I can’t see myself as any other name though.
I remember my mom saying it was the best name ever.
I don’t know about that but its something.
Oh my mother. The crazy lady who raised me.
This is how to make a fold in the shirt.
This is how to put away the clothes you don’t need but continue to buy.
This is how you iron your father’s work pants so they don’t have a crease.
I hated doing it but I had to.
She said it’s important for its health.
“Don’t yell when playing card-its not ladylike.
Don’t take things from people-you know its wrong.
Don’t throw food for the birds, because it might attract more than birds.
This is how to make custard.
This is how to make chicken curry.
This is how to make pepper pot.
This is how to make a good tonic for a cold.
This is how to make a good medicine to get rid a cough before it even becomes a cold.
This is how to buy a fish.
This is how to put back a fish you don’t like.
This is how to find a good job.
This is how to find a bad job.
This is how to enjoy a job.
This is how to do a job even if you don’t want to.
This is how to decide live.
This is how to act quickly if it turns upside down.
This is how to make ends meet.
Always check your clothes to make sure it’s pristine.”
She always has something to say.
Sometimes harsh or gentle.
But always for a reason.
That reason being me.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t respond.
I know she means well but it’s annoying.
“Why can’t I just live how I want?”
“Can you just stop?”
“I’m tired of hear these expectations.”
I have memories that make me sad and happy.
Some that make me smile.
Some that make me want to cry.
I remember being so free.
I remember wanting to grow up immediately.
Then realizing I need to stop and just live.
I remember graduating with my head held high
I remember total frustration over how to fold a shirt.
I remember jewelry stores with glass displays.
You could try on before you bought them, or didn’t.
I remember, in thrift stores, gold elephants in different sizes.
From small to large, with beautiful designs.
I remember, at the circus, the acrobats would twist their body.
Then how quickly they recovered.
I remember “crazy 8’s”, “blackjack”, “trump”, and “war.”
I remember the stories about living back home.
I remember being more than a bit disappointed over not living in a castle.
I remember spinning a chair until I saw two of everything.
I remember going ant hunting and keeping a very accurate account of how many found.
I remember pizza parties.
I remember dad jokes that weren’t funny at all.
I remember riddles that were so hard to find a reply.
I remember “monopoly” and “snakes & ladders.”
I remember Disney movies that took up my life.
I remember, when a I lied, trying to look so innocent.
Even if, I was not so innocent.
I remember my fantasies of seeing the lights of every city in the night.
I remember stories about how life would have been different if we didn’t move here.
I remember rumors that we would sell our home and never return.
I remember fantasies of what I would say to the family that thinks they could judge me.
I remember awkward silent moments.
I remember having daily ice cream trips.
I remember drawing outside of the lines like it didn’t matter.
I remember dressing up for Halloween to collect candy from the neighbors.
I remember emptying your whole bag to find the tiny lip balm at the bottom.
I remember sleepily nights watching television.
I remember how exhausting it was to start the next day.
I remember getting up every morning for school at the same time.
One morning not as tired as the rest.
But still sleeping as late as other days.
I remember birthday parties, being the center of attention.
How hard it was not to run away.
I remember trying not to cry at sad endings.
I can’t help it. I just happens.
I remember waking up for church early, just to see my friends.
I remember the exact moment, I found out we were going on vacation.
Trying my hardest to stop smiling.
I remember being on the plane so excited for us to takeoff.
I remember daydreaming throughout school.
Never knowing what topic we were on.
I remember not forgetting I had more than one name.
Not realizing I was being spoken to.
I remember asking why my name is what it was.
I remember saying goodbye to my friends.
I remember a dream of living my best life and then waking up to reality.
I remember starting college.
Thinking is this going to be my new reality?
I don’t know but hopefully it works out.
Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong.
I feel like my life isn’t meeting full potential.
It makes me wonder is it worth living?
I wake up everyday and go through my routine.
Dress for comfort and comb my hair.
I stare at the memories on my phone.
Asking to replicate those memories.
Hope with willingness.
With eagerness.
Hope that who I am will always have a history of happiness.
Spinning the unbreakable ties on a 'Charkha'
Spinning the unbreakable ties on a 'Charkha'
Ahmedabad: A little expert advice came in handy as the US first couple tried their hands at spinning the charkha at the Sabarmati Ashram here.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an introduction on the charkha to Donald Trump and Melania Trump as they sat down to spin the wheel, even as two guides of the ashram, Lata Parmar and Pratima Bora, stood next to the high-profile visitors, ready to help.
“Modiji was explaining the charkha to them. When President Trump asked him something, Modiji called us to help them with the charkha,” said Parmar. “Initially Melania was spinning the wheel and President Trump held the cotton. As the thread started forming, the President wondered if this would break and we explained that the thread would gain strength as we spin more,” Parmar told ET.
“President Trump then joked that the thread would surely break if he spins it,” she said. “However, both of them actually tried their hand on the charkha, which came as a pleasant surprise to us.”
While a small platform was made for the US President and first lady to sit on and try the charkha, the organisers were not sure if they would actually do anything more than getting their picture clicked, Parmar said. “So, it indeed came in as a pleasant surprise to us when they sat with the charkha.”
The ashram gifted three hand-spun Khesh sarees — which drew inspiration from a saree made by Mahatma Gandhi himself for Kasturba — and a wooden charkha to the President and the first lady. A pencil sketch of a rare studio photograph of Gandhi taken in London in 1931, a linocut of the Mahatma along with a talisman signed by him in Devnagari and Bengali scripts and a copy of his autobiography printed on khadi paper were among other gifts.
20 Cute Outfits That Will Up Your Tomboy Game
Pratima Ati April 29, 2019
A tomboy outfit is not meant to express a disinterest in fashion. It involves staying away from the stereotypical feminine silhouettes and tastefully playing with all things androgynous. From boyfriend jeans and pantsuits to oversized shirts and everything in between, there is a lot you can do to nail a tomboy outfit and make it fun. We’ll show you how with our picks of the cutest tomboy outfits. Check them out!
How Do You Dress Like A Tomboy?
The tomboy look is an inherent style that resonates with some people more than others. Whether it is your default setting or a style you want to try, the idea is to bring together pieces that reflect this personality.
Add accessories that are bold, rusty, or robust as opposed to dainty, delicate, and featherlight.
Leather, denim, and bomber jackets. Distressed denim. Boyfriend or mom jeans. Oversized hoodies or sweaters. Turtle necks. Sneakers. Converse shoes. Combat or ankle-length boots. Pantsuits. Big blazers. Flannels. Overalls. Beanies. Bandanas. Baseball hats. These are your staples, but feel free to add more and play around in a way that reflects your bold and badass self.
20 Cute Tomboy Outfits
1. Boy Shorts
gettyimages
The borrowed-it-from-the-boys kind of look exudes the tomboy vibe like nothing else. A pair of athleisure boy shorts, a half-tucked linen shirt, and sneakers is how you paint the town red in the summer.
2. Overalls
gettyimages
Are you a fan of camo and suspenders? Sport them both to nail that tomboy look. An Iron-Maiden T-shirt to go with the overalls, a half bun, Converse shoes, and hoops can do the job just right.
3. Frayed Shorts
gettyimages
Invest in a pair of rugged or frayed shorts. Put your hair up in a bun and throw on a pair of white Superstars or Airmax sneakers!
4. Oversized Shirt And Jacket
gettyimages
Shirt dresses – I mean the really long and oversized shirts that are worn as dresses – are really in and fit the tomboy bill perfectly. Top it up with a puffy jacket and boots for good measure.
5. Leather Trousers
gettyimages
Raise the hotness quotient with a pair of leather pants, a tank top, and black sneakers like a boss lady. Add aviators or any sunglasses of your choice to finish off the look.
6. Skinny Jeans With Denim Shirt
gettyimages
Swing into the feminine side just a little bit with this outfit. Jeans are a signature tomboy attire. Spruce them up a little with white boots and a denim shirt. Smokey eye makeup is your way to go for this look.
7. Bold Monochromes
gettyimages
Welcome corduroy into your closet to build a bold monochrome outfit without moving away from the theme. Combats, Converse sneakers, or Oxfords sit well with this look.
8. Flannels
gettyimages
Tomboys swear by flannel or plaid. Tie one at the waist, layer it, or go for an oversized one, and you are sorted.
9. Pantsuit
gettyimages
Pantsuits are bulldozing their way into runways, fashion houses, and clothing lines. Talk about exciting and fun outfits!
10. Leather Jacket
gettyimages
Leather jackets never fly under the radar when it comes to tomboy-ish looks, and they are here to stay.
11. Oversized Blazer
gettyimages
Reign as a street style superstar in this consumingly oversized blazer, straight cut jeans, and a high bun!
12. Bomber Jacket
gettyimages
Want to put in zero effort but still look like you did? Then, a bomber jacket is your bae! Cropped boyfriends jeans, a tank top, ankle boots, a bomber jacket, and a high bun is how you turn the story around.
13. Side Stripe Pants
gettyimages
All things with a side stripe are having a moment right now, and they are inherently tomboy-ish. Tracks, trousers, or jeans. If you don’t want to go all the way out with this look, add a trench coat.
14. Business Casuals
gettyimages
Too cool for school? Can’t wrap your head around formal dressing? Then, try this instead! It hovers around the idea of formal dressing with its boxed silhouette, but does not give in completely.
15. Shorts And Crop Top
gettyimages
Tomboy meets townie halfway with this look! A tube top with a dark wash denim jacket and jeans, a belt, and laceless combat boots is how you own this look.
16. Tutu Skirt Or Dress
gettyimages
I know a tutu skirt is the opposite of tomboy. However, even if you detest the idea of anything feminine, you can still try this outfit. It is subtle with its tomboy vibe but still fits the bill.
17. Distressed Denim
gettyimages
Were you wondering why this didn’t make it further up in the list? We just didn’t want to state the obvious. Distressed denim, hoodies, and combat boots are straight up everyday essentials.
18. Hoodie Dress
gettyimages
If there’s one thing I learned from this dainty diva, it is to nail the tomboy attire subtly. She lives in hoodie dresses and so can you if you are willing to explore the other side of fashion.
19. Boyfriend Shirt
gettyimages
Raid your partner’s closet a bit and yank his blue shirt out. Pair it with mom or bootcut jeans to make it your own.
20. One-Piece Dress
gettyimages
Homecoming or prom just around the corner? I’m assuming the tomboy in you cannot begin to accept the typical girly attire. Borrow a one-piece dress from a friend or rent it out, throw on your leather jacket, and finish it off with boots just the way you like it.
I wasn’t exaggerating when I said there’s a lot you can do with your tomboy outfits. While ‘tomboy’ is a reflection of an innate personality, we can all play with the idea by either following the norms of a real tomboy or tweaking them to fit our own personality. Are you a tomboy? What is your go-to look? Let us know by dropping a message in the comments section below.
Goldman Sachs among bidders for Scotiabank's metals unit: sources
Goldman Sachs among bidders for Scotiabank's metals unit: sources
Local vanity Numbers:
LONDON (Reuters) – Goldman Sachs Group (GS.N) is among around five bidders for ScotiaMocatta, the metals trading arm of Canada’s Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS.TO), for which it is seeking up to $1 billion, sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.
FILE PHOTO: The logo of Goldman Sachs is displayed in their office located in Sydney, Australia, May 18, 2016. REUTERS/David Gray/File Photo – RC19970BB830
Scotiabank began a review of its ScotiaMocatta metals business in 2016 following a string of lawsuits related to the manipulation of gold and silver price benchmarks and due to dissatisfaction over its performance, sources said.
It has since hired JPMorgan in New York to help with the sale process, with the aim of completion before the end of March 2018, they added.
The bulk of ScotiaMocatta’s business is in precious metals and it is one of five banks that clear bullion in London’s $5 trillion a year gold market, the world’s biggest.
Goldman Sachs has been seeking to turn around its struggling commodities unit by hiring a number of executives after reporting the weakest commodities results in its history as a public company in the second quarter.
Goldman and four other banks were part of a group that invested several million dollars in designing and building gold and silver contracts launched by the London Metal Exchange in July.
Three sources said Goldman had put in a non-binding bid for Scotiabank’s metals unit at an auction in mid-November.
“Taking the opposite approach to any other bank, which would scale back after a tough 18 months period … Goldman is keen across all the commodity business to expand their physical franchise and wants to be aggressive on market share and pricing to expand their position,” one of the sources said.
Two of the sources said other bidders included Japanese trading house Sumitomo (8053.T) and Australian bank ANZ (Australia and New Zealand Banking Group) (ANZ.AX). The unit also attracted the interest of two Chinese banks, they said.
Scotiabank, Goldman and ANZ declined to comment. Sumitomo was not immediately available to comment.
ScotiaMocatta is one of London’s main gold trading banks with a history dating back to the 17th century. It was acquired by Scotiabank from Standard Chartered (STAN.L) in 1997 and employs more than 160 people in 10 offices around the world, according to its website.
Market sources put Scotiabank’s annual revenues from the precious metals unit at $100-$180 million with operating margins of around 25 percent.
Sources said Scotiabank was seeking up to $1 billion for ScotiaMocatta.
“A factor in the discussions is whether the buyer gets an indemnity for legal risks as Scotia still has litigation hanging over them,” one source said.
“The purchase price will be affected by whether the buyer assumes that risk or they manage to ring-fence it or leave it with Scotia,” the source added.
U.S. investors sued Scotiabank alongside other four banks in 2014, claiming that they conspired to fix gold prices from 2004 to 2013,
A separate suit was pursued by silver investors against banks including Scotiabank.
Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE) agreed to pay a combined $98 million settlement on both suits.
The cases are only some of the lawsuits in which investors accused banks of conspiring to rig rates and prices in financial and commodities markets following revelations in 2012 that the London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor) had been rigged by British banks.
The Subtle Art Of Nailing The Classy Dressing Style
The Subtle Art Of Nailing The Classy Dressing Style
Pratima Ati April 17, 2019
Classy is a state of mind. You see classy, you can tell classy. From the way you conduct yourself to your lifestyle choices, and the biggest giveaway – your dressing style. After all, your outfit is (usually) a visual representation of your state of mind. Just think about how some people always manage to look classy and put together.
But, you know what? Sorry to burst your bubble. It is not always through splurging, wearing couture, or being over the top. It’s anything but that. Classy is about being subtle, minimal, and effortless. There a few elements to nailing this style. So, here are some tips on how to go about it.
Let’s dive deep!
1. Know Your Body Type
Shutterstock
Let’s take it from the top. Any ‘Styling 101’ list starts with figuring out your body type. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. Do you often imagine looking a certain way and end up looking the opposite? Chances are you are investing in clothes that don’t match your figure. Be realistic about your choices. Start by figuring out your body type and what looks good on it. It’s failproof!
2. Understand Your Personal Style
Shutterstock
Let’s go back to where we started. Has an outfit ever looked different on you from how you imagined it would while buying it? For all you know, it was an impulsive purchase and not something you would naturally select for yourself. It is essential to understand your personal style and wear clothes that define your personality. Imagine yourself in the first 15 minutes of getting ready for work or a party. Are you constantly putting away a few pieces of clothing without ever wearing them? Then, it looks like you bought them on a whim. They need to go right out of the window, and this exercise will help to steer you in the right direction every time you go shopping.
3. Invest In Classic And Timeless Pieces
Shutterstock
Invest in classic and timeless pieces. Go for evergreen fabrics and quality clothing. Map your personal style and body type while making a purchase. Leather jackets. A little black dress. A trench coat. White shirts. A few pairs (at least) of well-fitted jeans. Denim jackets. Cashmere sweaters, stoles, cardigans, or pullovers. Crewneck T-shirts. Plain T-shirts. One-piece dresses. We are not even talking expensive or luxury brands here, just good quality stuff that does not go out of style. You can match them with current trends by keeping the classic vibe intact. After all, classic is classy.
4. Minimal. Subtle. Mellow
You can wear a pair of jeans, a black T-shirt, a pair of Converse shoes, a messy bun, and still look classy. You can wear an LBD, pumps, red lipstick, a bun, a clutch, and – you guessed it – still look classy. You can wear a white linen dress, dainty jewelry, flats, a high pony, nude makeup, and go with the textbook definition of classy.
Remember – the idea and the easiest way of nailing it is to always, always be minimal, subtle, and mellow. It is endearing and suave and can never go wrong.
5. Neutral Color Palette – Ride On It
Experts suggest a holistic approach to building a closet. Go for muted pastels, neutral shades, and earthy tones. Take a good look at your wardrobe. If you see too many loud prints, unnecessary cuts, or overarching layers, know that they might be getting in the way of classy dressing.
6. Bank On Black
Shutterstock
Black is everyone’s favorite for more reasons than we want to admit. All-black outfits or as-much-black-as-possible outfits are free passes to classy dressing. Play with layers, spruce up with exquisite jewelry or bold accessories, or amp up with shoes and a handbag. You can wear a simple black T-shirt and trousers, an LBD (we will keep coming back to this a lot), or a long gown and dress up or dress down to pull off the classy look.
7. Meaningful Monochromes
Shutterstock
Monochrome is more than just its literal meaning, i.e., dressing up in one color from head to toe. The idea is to create a silhouette. You can combine shades of the same color – light with dark tints, different tones, and the ombre effect are a few ways to go about it. Gray, navy, black, pastels, and powdered colors make exciting choices for perfect monochrome outfits. It is a classy signature style.
8. Fit Says Forget Me Not
Shutterstock
Your clothes need to fit you well. They cannot be too tight or too loose. Wearing oversized clothes is classy, but it’s not an invitation for looking sloppy. Figure-fitting clothes look great, but say no to revealing or choking body fits. There is nothing flattering about them. Stick to structures and play with patterns. Sway with silhouettes and flow with the flare. A great fit is the sum total of it all. A classy outfit is the result.
9. Clean Up, Be Brutal
Clean up your wardrobe. Brutally. Ruthlessly.
Do not hold on to pieces that don’t see the light of the day or don’t match your personality or style, especially when you are moving towards a classy dressing style. Know your wardrobe, take a good look at it, and declutter anything you haven’t worn in the last three months. This way, you will steer away from impulsive purchases. A capsule wardrobe can be way more functional, classy, and chic than an unnecessarily overflowing closet.
10. Hair And Makeup Matter
A slick bun or a ponytail with a full suit. A messy bun with a gown. A chignon updo in summers. “No makeup” makeup look for work. Smokey eyes for special occasions. A dewy base for the minimalist in you. Red lipstick for everything else. However, just like everything else, there is a ‘but’ to this story.
Hair and makeup are a double-edged sword. They finish off classy dressing perfectly, but can also ruin it just as powerfully. Too much color, shine, or shimmer and no balance can derail it all. Watch out.
11. Ace The Accessories Game
unsplash.com
Accessorizing is an art. Wearing the right things at the right time is not as simple as it looks. The knack for adding just enough to your outfit needs prowess. It needs to be neither too much nor too little. Classy dressing is a lot like minimalistic dressing, but without being too bland. When you deck up your ears, leave your neck bare, or the other way around. A statement finger ring with a classic tote is another great way to go. Sandals, boots, pumps, or Oxfords – wear whatever rocks your “classy” boat.
12. Amp Up The Good Parts
unsplash.com
Choose one part of the outfit and let it shine. A checkered trouser with a muted top. A sequined top with a cute skirt. A silk blouse with a pencil skirt. Tapered jeans with a white shirt. An encompassing gown with pumps. The idea is to amp up one good part of the outfit.
13. Nails On Point
We are not telling you to spend hundreds of dollars every month to get a mani/pedi done, but clean nails make a world of difference. Keep your nails clean, cut, and preferably manicured. It is an investment we all need.
14. The Devil Is In The Details
Think through the details of your outfit ahead of time. Always. Every little detail matters because classy dressing is pretty minimalistic, and you can’t let any details slip up.
15. Nothing OTT, Please!
Wearing high-end brands is okay. Owning them is great. Wanting to buy more is fine too. But none of this truly defines classy dressing. Also, avoid over-the-top brand logos, in-your-face bling, and more than one loud print in the entire outfit. Instead, invest in signature or classy pieces from your favorite luxury brands. Underplaying is the way to go.
What is your personal style? Do you have a role model for classy dressing? Have any questions for us? Leave them in the comments section below, and we’ll get back to you.
17 Shirts That Go Well With Leggings
New Post has been published on http://healingawerness.com/getting-healthy/getting-healthy-women/17-shirts-that-go-well-with-leggings/
17 Shirts That Go Well With Leggings
Pratima Ati April 10, 2019
I’m always looking for excuses to wear leggings. Actually, I wear them even when I don’t find one.
I own 15 pairs of leggings in all colors and prints, and I have lost count of the number of black leggings I own. I inevitably end up buying new ones and investing a significant percentage of my salary into getting other pieces to style them into exciting outfits.
Leggings are the new jeans. Versatile. Functional. Chic. Comfortable. To back my claim here, I have listed out a few outfit ideas with leggings and tops. So, check out these 17 cute tops that go well with leggings.
17 Shirts That Go Well With Your Leggings
Gone are the days when leggings were only worn with baggy T-shirts. And, gone are the days when leggings were just black and long. Leather, printed, lace, fleece, capris…the list goes on. The part is you can wear them with shirts, crop tops, leather jackets, hoodies, sweaters, and so much more! To help style your outfit, we have put together a list of tops that look incredibly cute over leggings. Take a look!
1. Long Georgette Top With Black Leggings
Shutterstock
If your natural pick for this top is black skinny jeans, hold on and try it with a pair of leggings. Since they don’t bunch around your waist the way denim does, they keep the fit of the top intact and create a flattering silhouette. Add a thick waist belt, pumps, and a crossbody bag to get party-ready!
2. High-Rise Colored Leggings With A Hoodie
www.asos.com
We have learned a thing or two from Kendal Jenner and Gigi Hadid, haven’t we? They practically live in leggings and hoodies, and you can too. Choose colors that pop instead of the usual neutrals.
3. Monochromatic Look With Leggings
unsplash.com
Try the effortless but chic monochrome look with black leggings. Break the narrow silhouette with tan combat boots and get ready for people stealing glances at you.
4. Silk Blouse With Leather Leggings
www.asos.com
Leggings are probably not the first thing you reach for when you walk around your closet with a silk blouse in hand. But a flattering top like this deserves nothing less than these ultra-hot leather leggings. Wear ankle length booties and a black side body bag, put on a pair of hoops, and style your hair in beachy waves.
5. Crop Top And Leggings
www.asos.com
I think we can all agree that the only acceptable bottoms in summer are leggings. I’m talking about the soft and breathable kind that come with a thick waistband, don’t ride up, and can be paired with racerback or tank tops.
6. Bomber Jacket And Fleece Leggings
unsplash.com
Tame the puffiness of a bomber jacket with the svelte silhouette of leggings. Add ankle-length boots to this equation to balance out the contrasting pieces perfectly.
7. Denim Jacket And Black Leggings
www.asos.com
You can deal with a denim jacket in two ways. One is, of course, by throwing it on over a tank top and black leggings. It looks great. The second way is to create layers and raise the oomph with a crop top. Trust me, it makes quite a difference. A white crop top, a cropped denim jacket (sleeveless or otherwise), and white sneakers are the way to go.
8. Checkered Jersey Leggings And Leather Jacket
www.boohoo.com
Checks have made their way into leggings too. This androgynous pattern is an interesting choice to look stylish with almost no effort. Put the jeggings on the scaffold and throw on either a black T-shirt, a tube, or even a bralette. Finish it off with a leather jacket to create an edgy look. Ankle boots will look great with this outfit.
9. Abstract Leggings And Tie Top
www.asos.com
Abstract print leggings are a level above your usual floral printed ones. They are usually pretty mellow and not too over the top. So, stick to the print and keep the top simple. Try a plain black top that ties in the front to amp it up a bit.
10. Sculpted High-Waisted Leggings And Sweater
www.asos.com
Sculpted high-waisted leggings let you show off your calves, butt, curves, and everything else you have worked on, even in winter. Pair them with oversized, embellished, or high low sweaters. Boots of all lengths go well with this outfit.
11. Animal Print Leggings And Crew Neck Top
www.asos.com
Channel your inner fashionista with these animal print leggings and crew neck top. A sleeveless or halter top will also look great with these leggings. Wear sneakers, put your hair up in a bun, throw on a pair of hoops, and put on some brown lipstick to complete this look.
12. Flannel Shirt And Leggings
Shutterstock
Flannel or plaid shirts with leggings are a big trend. It started in the ‘90s, and we have not looked back ever since. You can tie the flannel at your waist or wear it as a layer. It can be worn by itself over leggings as well.
13. Printed Leggings And Graphic T-Shirt
www.asos.com
We have seen abstract prints, animal prints, and some bold colors. These leggings bring them all together. Wear them with a graphic T-shirt, tuck it in, and put on a pair of kitten heels and angular glasses to channel your inner badass.
14. High-Low Top And Leather Leggings
www.asos.com
The fashion police are paranoid about visible panty lines and resist the idea of wearing short tops with leggings. A high-low top is a perfect way to beat that. Also, you don’t have to worry about panty lines with leather, jersey, and fleece leggings. Be wary of the camel toe, though!
15. Long sleeve Shirt And Leggings
www.asos.com
Loosely tuck a long-sleeved linen or cotton shirt into your leggings, put on a pair of ankle-strap sandals, and strut around like you own the world. If you carry this look off confidently, you probably do!
16. Maternity Leggings And Flowy Top
www.asos.com
Hello there, baby mama! We know that, at this point, leggings are all that you live in. Ditch your usual oversized shirts, sweaters, hoodies, and boyfriend T-shirts for flowy tops like these. Flaunt that bump!
17. All-Black Party Wear Leggings And Shirt
www.asos.com
Who said you can’t go to a party in leggings? Take a good look at this outfit to see how wrong they are. This tie-up top and leggings look is especially great for clubbing.
I’ll now excuse you, so you can rush out and buy more leggings and tops to go with them. What is your go-to style when it comes to leggings? Let us know by dropping a message in the comments section below.
15 Cute Ways To Wear A Bomber Jacket
New Post has been published on http://healingawerness.com/getting-healthy/getting-healthy-women/15-cute-ways-to-wear-a-bomber-jacket/
15 Cute Ways To Wear A Bomber Jacket
Pratima Ati March 26, 2019
A jacket that is a perfect ‘in-between.’ In-between seasons, casual and sporty, sporty but not overtly, biker chic but every day – the bomber jacket is all of that for you. It fills the gap on days you want to put no effort but still have to look put together. Invest in one or invest in many, you are going to lose barely any. We’ve put together looks that reiterate this – check them out!
What Is A Bomber Jacket?
The aviation industry inspired the bomber jacket as pilots donned these while stepping out for flying. From there, the style caught on to men and trickled down to the women’s clothing line too. It has evolved ever since, and there’s not one correct or classic style with a bomber jacket – which is what makes it versatile. The way to recognize a bomber jacket is that it has a gathered waistband with a thick elastic band.
How To And What To Wear With A Bomber Jacket
Bomber jackets look great with simple, bold T-shirts or tops. Since they have a pretty sporty and comfortable vibe, they usually work well with casual outfits. Make sure your bomber jacket is neither too loose nor too tight. It must also sit comfortably over your hips, and the collar must rest well on your neck without collapsing on your shoulders. Here are some styling ideas for you. Take a look!
1. Camouflage Bomber Jacket
www.amazon.com
For the love of camo and the fact that we can never get enough of this, invest in a camo jacket. Whether you are 20, 30, or over 50, this jacket comes handy for the longest. It checks off the list for two things at once – camo and bomber.
2. Eclectic Print Bomber Jacket
www.shein.in
Play with patterns and prints, they say, so here we are doing just that. If you are like me and live in black leggings, jeggings, treggings, etc., you need one of these. It lets the print stand out and take center stage – which is what this deserves.
3. Floral Bomber Jacket
shop.nordstrom.com
Even if you are a tomboy and do not like the idea of anything too girly, you won’t be able to resist this. The bomber style brings out the best of the floral prints and in a very unassuming way.
4. Pink Bomber Jacket
www.shein.in
An all pink suit with a bomber style jacket is like holding to the love of all things pink but without throwing it on your face. If you love tracksuits, you should get one of these.
5. Windbreaker Bomber Jacket
www.asos.com
A windbreaker bomber leather jacket, cropped, with a ribbed knit trim and dropped shoulders, and long dolman sleeves are what all jacket dreams are made of. Wear it with a tube style tracksuit, skinny jeans, or pencil skirts to balance toughness with the feminine.
6. Long Shearling Bomber Jacket
www.amazon.com
Boyfriend style meets cardigan meets bomber jacket very subtly. The long coat in faux shearling defines the street style and effortlessly so. Pair it with a distressed pair of jeans or frayed shorts – it’s foolproof!
7. Captain Marvel Plus Size Bomber Jacket
www.torrid.com
If you are a Marvel fan, you need no convincing here. The patches to ornate the soft faux leather jacket keep the feminine shape of the jacket intact but with boyish attitude. Wear it with jeans, tracks, or trousers – you are going to love it.
8. Satin Bomber Jacket
www.amazon.com
Are you a fan of the styles from the 80s and the 90s? Retro defines you, but you don’t want to overdo it? The satin bomber jacket packs all of this in a go. It looks especially great with white jeans.
9. Faux Fur Leather Jacket
www.forever21.com
How about bringing both faux fur and leather together? A little bit of this and that makes this stylish, fun, and feminine too – but without losing the sight of the bomber style. It has a sophisticated vibe to it, so you can wear it to brunch or a movie date.
10. Zebra Print Bomber Jacket
www.asos.com
If you are a fan of animal prints, go all out with this Zebra printed bomber jacket. You can wear it over leggings or track pants and spin your outfit in a matter of minutes. Or, if you want to pull a Taylor Swift or Gigi Hadid street style, swap the pants for a leather skirt and OTK boots with this.
11. Business Casual Bomber Jacket
www.shein.in
Work in the media? Freelancer? You know you can still work yourself around with a bomber jacket. It perfectly meets business and casual midway. Wear it with a pencil skirt and silk blouse or with tapered pants and a tank top, or even with a one-piece form-fitting dress.
12. Quilted Bomber Jacket
www.asos.com
Quilted, cropped, and bomber – cannot get better than this, can it? Wear it with a bodysuit over shorts and look like a diva right out of a poster.
13. Military Style Bomber Jacket
www.asos.com
The signature military jacket in beige breaks the idea of the classic military color but doesn’t take away the essence of the style. It looks ravishing on tapered or cropped jeans, smokey eyes, boots, red lipstick, and aviators.
14. Embroidered Bomber Jacket
img.shein.com
Embroidered bomber jackets are the cutest – they look flattering and feminine but just in perfect proportions. Wear one with long flowing skirts, tube skirts, or body-hugging casual dresses. Talk about chic!
15. Peach Bomber Jacket
Shutterstock
How about softening the tough look with a bomber jacket in pink or peach? Wear this with a bodycon dress and finish the outfit with white shoes. Let this be your go-to but effortless ensemble.
Choose any of these looks and go slay! Now that you have decided to invest in a bomber jacket, it is important to know how you can wash it so that it lasts long.
How To Wash A Bomber Jacket
Machine wash your bomber jacket but run it through a delicate or hand wash cycle.
A lot depends on the material. Jackets made from polyester are easier to wash than those made from leather or other fabrics. In the case of the latter, it’s better to get them dry cleaned.
You can also soak it in mild detergent (fabric appropriate) and rinse it with your hand. Hang it dry.
These are not supposed to be ironed. Plus, they adjust back into their shape without wrinkles in no time.
A bomber jacket is a great value add in your closet and an investment you will be pleased with. Are you a bomber jacket hoarder? Or, are you a newbie? Let us know by dropping in a message in the comments section below.
