Prakash Printers and Coaters gets a Lombardi Invicta I2 press
Lombardi, a manufacturer of modular in-line flexographic printing machines, and Vinsak have unveiled the inaugural installation of Lombardi's 880mm inline Invicta I2 press at Prakash Printers and Coaters in Ahmedabad — their longstanding partner in the Indian market. This is the first installation of an in-line press of this web width by any manufacturer in India and marks the debut of the Lombardi I2 press in Asia and the Middle East, Vinsak said.
Vinsak, a leading supplier of printing and packaging solutions to packaging and label printers in India, Africa, and the Middle East, anticipates that this development will revolutionize the industry. With its advanced features, including the shortest changeover time, running speed of 300 meters per minute, and the capacity for value-added enhancements such as cold foiling and cast and cure, this press is poised to reshape the flexible packaging market in India in record time, the company says.
At its core, sustainability is paramount, with the press embodying the smallest footprint, minimal setup waste, low energy consumption, and complete elimination of solvents. This commitment to sustainability positions it as the foremost carbon-conscious converting system globally.
As a family-owned business with the third generation in the operations, Prakash Printers and Coaters consistently delivers value-added solutions for a diverse range of brands spanning food, FMCG, cosmetics, and industrial labels. The company is doubling its capacity every year.
The recent completion of a sprawling 100,000-square-foot factory underscores its expansion, yet demand continues to outpace even this substantial increase. Currently, plans are underway to construct of an additional 50,000 square feet as the company charts its course toward continued success and market leadership.
"Vinsak has been and will remain our steadfast technology partner in our journey of progress, as we persistently push the boundaries of our business," said Prakash Shivlani, director of Prakash Printers and Coaters -- underscoring the collaboration between the two companies.
"Prakash Printers hold a very special place in our company’s heart. They continually challenge us with new converting solutions they require, propelling us to innovate faster and stay ahead of the curve. This drive to find cost-effective and sustainable solutions for them is what fuels our partnership," remarked Mohan Pailwan, vice-president of Vinsak India. He underscored the mutually beneficial relationship between the two companies, driven by a shared commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.
"India has always been a key market with a special focus, and Prakash Printers, our key customer, consistently drives us to innovate," stated Massimo Lombardi, general manager of Lombardi Converting Machinery in Italy. He emphasized the company's commitment to developing new technology in response to the evolving needs of customers such as Prakash Printers. He affirmed their dedication to advancing in-line presses for packaging markets globally, reinforcing their position as industry leaders in innovation and customer-centric solutions.
According to Vinsak, a decade ago, the label and flexo market predominantly revolved around presses spanning 280-330 mm in width. However, Vinsak's introduction of Lombardi to the Indian market initiated a significant shift. Today, the standard width stands at 430mm, with approximately 90% of inline flexo presses being sold at this width or wider.
Additionally, widths of 530mm, 620mm, and 670mm now command almost 20% of the market share. This evolution is accompanied by a broadening definition of labels, expanding beyond self-adhesive and wet glue to encompass shrink sleeves, IML labels, wrap-around labels, and heat transfer labels. In 2024, the market is poised for advancement to the next level, the company said.

Provisions of the Vernacular Press Act
The governor generalship of Lord Lytton issued the Vernacular Press Act in 1878 to regulate Indian language newspapers. The main goal of this measure was to suppress the production of anti-British journals and encourage those who supported them. Continue reading to know more about the act.
Formation of the act
So, when was the vernacular act passed? The Vernacular act was passed in 1878 by the government of Lord Lytton.
Printing and communication are not new concepts; they may get traced back to ancient regimes. There was no such thing as contemporary printing, and there was very little in transportation, education, and communication.
The Mughals were responsible for developing a new type of written newspaper. In 1878, the Viceroy of India imposed a controversial and oppressive ordinance, and Lord Lytton passed legislation to limit the freedom of Indian languages.
The ruler's horrible actions were discussed in the vernacular press, which sparked great outrage. He also mistreated it during the 1876-77 famine disasters. As a result, the government enacted the Vernacular Press Act 1878.
Significant writings that sparked widespread outrage and dissatisfaction with the government were prohibited. It meant to restrict the vernacular press from criticising British policies.

Significant writings that sparked widespread outrage and dissatisfaction with the government were prohibited. It meant to restrict the vernacular press from criticising British policies.
Indians and the act
The Amrit Bazar Patrika entered the scene and took on converting the newspaper from Bengali to English which was merely to get around the rule.
The Som Prakash publication of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was halted after that. But, as things turned out, the publication resumed in 1880 after securing written guarantees of fidelity to the government.
Many newspapers were penalised by the government, and the editor of one of them was even imprisoned. The editor faced fines and imprisonment due to the act's provisions. Many well-known people were accused of directing a seditious movement, including Dacca Prakash, Bharat Mihir, Sadharani, Bharat Sanskar, Halisahar Patrika, and Sulabh Samachar, among others.
Vernacular press after the revolt of 1857
Following the insurrection of 1857, prominent Indian leaders began the Indian National Movement to educate the public through newspaper articles.
Throughout history, the vernacular press had various constraints on its freedom of expression. The British Indian government enacted several laws to prohibit the vernacular press from propagating anti-British propaganda. Different press laws went into effect, including:
Censor Act of 1799
Lord Wellesley was the one who signed this bill. The act stipulated that the names of the editors, proprietors, and editors must be printed in newspapers. Before being published in the newspaper, the matter had to be submitted to the Secretary of Censorship. Warren Hastings revoked the act.
Licensing Regulation Act of 1823
The publishers and printers required a license. The Governor had sole authority to grant or withdraw the license, and Charles Metcalf was the one who revoked the act.
Press Act of 1835
The Metcalfe Act is another name for this act. Metcalfe advocated for the freedom of the press. After overturning the Rude Act of 1823, he was dubbed "liberator of the Indian press."
The Licensing Act of 1857
The act restricted the printing of newspapers, magazines, and journals, and the Governor had the power to grant or revoke new licenses.
The Registration Act of 1857
The act did not impose limits on the press, but it did control newspaper and book printing. The publisher was required to provide the name of the publisher and printer and the location where the book was published.
The Newspaper Act of 1908
The statute allowed the magistrate to seize the press's goods if they published offensive content in journals, periodicals, or newspapers.
The Indian Press Act of 1930
The local government was given the authority to obtain security from the publisher and printer at registration and deregister if the offender was discovered.
The Indian Press Act of 1931
The provincial administrations had complete authority over suppressing civil disobedience movement propaganda.
The Official Secrets Act
This act made the operations of the Indian National Congress illegal.
To Conclude:
The Vernacular Press Act of 1878 targeted only/vernacular language publications. Many challenges and issues arose as a result of the act's existence. However, the problem was resolved with the suggestion of translating the native newspaper into English!

Everything About Vernacular Press Act 1878 and What it Discussed?
Here is a guide that speaks about the vernacular press act and what it holds, why it came into the picture, and its provisions.
Wondering what is Vernacular Press Act ? Printing and communication is not a matter of the present but is dated way back in the ancient regimes. There was no such concept of modern printing, with minimal transport facility, education and communication.
The Mughals brought about the new style of written newspapers. A very controversial and suppressive act was enacted in 1878 by the Viceroy of India. Lord Lytton passed the act to curb the freedom of the Indian languages.
The vernacular press that discussed the terrible policies laid by the viceroy faced widespread protest. And, it was mishandled by him in the 1876-77 famine incidents. Thus, the Government came up with the Vernacular Press Act 1878.
It restricted substantial writings that led to public opinion and disaffection towards the Government. It was proposed to prevent the vernacular press from criticizing British policies.
What is the Vernacular Press Act 1878?
To brief the act, The British government enacted the Vernacular Press Act, 1878, intending to restrict and suppress the indigenous press. Also, to limit the freedom of speech, limit and restrain publication companies for criticizing government policies.
A substantial segment of the Indian population was protesting against the act. Therefore, it got named the gagging Act and was meant for vernacular/native language newspapers and not English-language publications.
Provisions of the Vernacular Press Act
The District Magistrate holds the authority to order the printer and publisher of any Vernacular publication to adhere to the government's terms.
It assured that they did not print anything that may arouse public outrage, promote hatred, fuel anger or dissatisfaction with the government based on caste, religion, or race.
The publisher needed to deposit the security, which might be forfeited if the law was broken.
If the crime gets committed again, the government may take the press tools.
Proof sheets for newspaper and magazine articles must get submitted to the police rather than the judge before publication.
The Magistrate’s Judgment is regarded as final in such circumstances, and no legal action may be taken against it.
Indians and the Vernacular Press Act
The Amrit Bazar Patrika came into the picture and took the responsibility to convert the newspaper from its original Bengali and English. It was done only to avoid the provision.
Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s Som Prakash publication was then stopped or fell to a halt. But later, as things turned out fine, after receiving written assurances of allegiance to the government, the publication was resumed in 1880.
Many papers got fined by the government, and even the publication's editor was put behind bars. There were fines and imprisonment to the editor under the provision of the act. Many familiar figures like Dacca Prakash, Bharat Mihir, Sadharani, Bharat Sanskar, Halisahar Patrika, Sulabh Samachar, among others, were accused of leading a seditious movement.
Many prominent figures, personalities and individuals in Bengal and India condemned the Vernacular Press Act 1878, with a constant demand for repealing the act immediately.
Conclusion
The Vernacular Press Act 1878 only targeted the native/ vernacular language newspapers, not English ones! With the existence of this act, there came many complications and problems. But, it was resolved with the idea of converting the native newspaper into English!
Now that you know almost everything about vernacular press acts, you can learn more in-depth at Getlegalindia.com. Gain knowledge of different laws and activities that lay in India. Learn the real stories and history behind the act, its existence, purpose and why it came into the picture.

A Reflection On Xerox
The Xerox business has existed since 1906. Xerox was a photographic organization who fabricated photographic newspaper and equipment under an alternative name. It wasn't until around 1959 which they published the very first photo copier, however just what a joyful fate it had been, since the photocopy machine turned into Xerox venezuela their signature. At the point they used electro photography technology, an approach that demanded no fluids. This has been a huge deal as most makers of this period were using solutions which could evaporate overtime.
Evidently, the newest technology has been a winner. Once it turned into mass and sustainable advertised, why would anyone move straight back into diminished printing formats? As the organization grew, several collection of copiers followed. Finally the automatic xerographic printer has been launched to the mass marketplace. From there on, it's all history. Manual printing on ordinary paper has been obsolete. The detail capacities enhanced, how big those copiers shrank, and also the notion of owning a background was officially reality. The next thing was supposed to produce sure they are effective at communication computing technologies.
Flashforward into the present Xerox Printers - For Small Business and also you realize exactly how vital these creations were to the direction of office buildings and company. They are now able to print around a mean of a dozen pages per minute in color and then basic them. This produces the task day a great deal less stressful for employees that are busy. Business conferences run simpler as a outcome. Each employee could have their particular record to document. It generates archiving information faster.
The faster any office machines works, the faster the organization community receives. Productivity gains as technology progress. The significance of graphics becoming increasingly accurate and detailed. Printing has changed the game indefinitely. And print and digital are handinhand, there's really a non stop exchange of advice.
Xerox copy machines have been basically just only steppingstone in a major picture however they're a essential part into the mystery that's human communicating and historical signs. The goal of replicating was to be in a position to share with you information. That demand won't ever evaporate. The one thing which may change could be that the way we copy that advice. Xerox sill features an extensive time to really go because they are going to accommodate with the fluctuations in the business.

Arrow Digital talks about its dry sublimation printers at Gartex 2022
A pioneer in digital printing, at the recent Gartex show in Delhi, Arrow Digital spoke about the Kornit Avalanche Poly Pro and EFI dye sublimation printers garment printing. The Kornit Avalanche Poly Pro is specially designed for dark polyester printing. Its specialty is ink that is specially designed for printing on dark polyester and for curing at very low temperatures. This ink helps to avoid dye migration on polyester but is slightly more expensive than other inks.
The EFI Fabri VU 340i+ is a dye sublimation printer mainly aimed at home furnishing and soft signage, with its first installation at Caterpillar Signs. A big advantage of this machine is its inbuilt curing system. While speaking about the EFI Fabri VU 340i+, Prakash Chopra, senior vice president of Sales at Arrow Digital, said that the company has installed three machines in the country so far – two in Caterpillar and one in Macromedia, Hyderabad. He suggested that there are several prospects in the pipeline for installing the Fabri VU 340i+ in various parts of India.
Chopra added, “The market for dye sublimation printing is gradually increasing because it is 100% green and since the ink is also water-based. One deal is finalized, and our next machine would probably be installed in Mumbai with the other somewhere in North India.”
“In this exhibition, we are expecting to create awareness. We are here for our presence since we haven’t kept any machines in our stand. Visitors are coming with their queries related to Kornit and Fabri VU because Fabri VU is the future technology for which everyone is looking. Many countries like America, Australia, and Europe have adopted this technology. However, India is slightly lagging, but here we’re getting good responses and queries from the industry visitors,” he concluded.

Arrow Digital has announced the installation of its EFI VUTEk LX3 Pro UV LED Hybrid printer at Indian Hobbies House (IHH), a well-known name in the outdoor signage industry, in Chandigarh.
Suresh Kohli, managing director of IHH, said, “I have been in this industry for years and we are serving the clientele of Punjab and Haryana. We have a stronghold in these markets. As these states are growing rapidly, the demand for signage is increasing rapidly. Printing on demand and maintaining the high standards are now not a choice, it’s a compulsion. To meet the demands of the customer, you need to have technology which can differentiate you from others.”
On finding a precise solution that fits today’s signage market demands and his business needs, Kohli said, “Our visit to the Arrow demo center made our discussion firm, and it just accelerated the discussion to go only for an EFI VUTEk Printer. The application room at Arrow demo center, Ahmedabad, gave us the confidence we needed for an expansion.
Kohli said they tested all the applications they could. “We were just amazed by the performance, colors, vibrancy, and speed. the EFI VUTEk LX3 Pro UV LED, he said, meets the growing demands for higher quality with quicker turnaround times and offers the ability to print on new and unique substrates.”

It offers greater image consistency/quality, reduced waste, and lower energy costs, which translates into a more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly print solution. The EFI VUTEk LX3 Pro UV LED printer is designed for high production throughput.
The printer will empower IHH with higher volumes and shorter lead times, with stunning image quality and the versatility to support the widest range of media and applications.”
The EFI VUTEk LX3 Pro UV LED printer is a versatile 3.2-meter hybrid flatbed/roll-fed printer, which can be used with substrates up to 5.08cm thick.
It offers eight colors plus white, plus multilayer printing, and resolutions of true 600 or 1000 dpi. The printer offers high-resolution grayscale imaging. Its “cool cure” LED technology is a greener solution that reduces energy usage and costs while allowing users to print on a wider range of media, including media that cannot withstand the heat of other curing or drying methods.
The LX3 prints at a speed of 3400 ft2/hr. It enables continuous printing from board to board, board to sheet, and roll-to-roll printing.
The printer has the advantages of three-layer and white-layer printing capabilities, allowing printing white in six variations such as overprint, underprint, spot, under-spot, fill, and over-spot. It also offers dual-roll power that enables printing up to two 60-inch rolls simultaneously. Kohli is confident that the addition will amplify their production.“We are sure the addition will give us a boost, and we are sure to add more EFI VUTEks in the coming years.

Chandni Industries stepped into packaging
In 1961, the late Chandra Prakash Jain founded Chandni Industries at Barhi-Sonipat, as a candle manufacturer. The company diversified into playing cards in the 1970s, eventually becoming one of the industry’s dedicated producers in that segment by 1984. Vipul Jain has been with the firm since 1994, which now produces 25,00,000 playing card packs every month, in a factory with 30,000 square feet of built-up space situated on a 1,800 square meter plot of land.
Chandni Industries further diversified to monocarton production at the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago. The company’s production assets include Heidelberg SM74 and a Heidelberg SM74 with coater presses, and a Heidelberg Suprasetter CTP driven by Heidelberg prepress workflow. There are also several local machines including coaters from Alpna and Auto Print.
“Currently, our company is placed as one of the leading playing card producers of North India, due to our belief ‘Outperform – Simplify – Inspire.’ We are familiar with paper and board packaging due to our existing business. Hence, we could start the packaging business with our current set-up,” says Jain.
Chandni Industries saw several shifts in the consumer market during the pandemic. In the early days, it saw a rise in the current product portfolio, and as the pandemic continued, it
saw printing innovation play a more significant part, even in its playing-card business.
Existence depends on innovation
Jain remarks on his company’s need for diversification, “Today, existence is primarily dependent on innovation, and thus, we want to diversify. We built an in-house printing plant for various print applications, which prompted us to decide to get into the paperboard packaging sector. We’ve started a packaging printing business, and we’ve invested in a DGM folder-gluer because of their team’s packaging expertise.”
Jain decided that the DGM converting equipment was the best fit for its market needs after assessing the other available solutions. As the company moved into packaging, DGM provided both ideas and advice and its professional support and infrastructure in India demonstrates the company’s commitment to the country’s packaging industry.
Chandni now produces all types of cartons such as lock-bottom, litho-laminated and conventional monocartons. It also produces Braille embossed cartons, clamshells, and trays. It has reached a substantial production level with the capacity to produce 90 lakh to 1 crore (9 to 10 million) cartons each month.
The packaging industry remains among the fastest-growing industries in the Indian economy. Before the pandemic started, the packaging industry was steadily gaining, but the pandemic seems to have given it an opportunity to leap forward in its growth. With the increased consumption of packaging many companies have scaled up and many commercial printers have diversified into packaging. Thus Chandni Industries is one among many of the diversifications to carton printing and converting and as its packaging work deepens, it is targeting customers from the pharma, cosmetic and FMCG industries to expand its production.
Having successfully diversified to packaging, the company quite naturally is thinking of its next steps. Among its plans is a greenfield expansion which includes more infrastructure, equipment, and technology. Jain says, “The packaging sector is competitive and I believe that innovation unlocks new horizons.”
