Hyderabad: 2 accused of eve-teasing girl on New Year's eve get 3-day imprisonment

A local court of Hyderabad awarded a three-day imprisonment to two men for eve-teasing a girl on the night of December 31.

Based on the complaint lodged by the victim on January 1, the police arrested the two accused after identifying them with the help of CCTV footages. The accused have been identified as E. Upender and Suresh, natives of Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh.

The police not only acted promptly in arresting the eve-teasers, but also fast-tracked the case to ensure that the accused were brought to justice, in less than a week since the crime took place.

INCIDENT TOOK PLACE BETWEEN 9.30 PM AND 10 PM

According to SR Nagar police, the duo eve-teased a girl between 9.30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on New Year's eve at the Bapu Nagar locality in Hyderabad.

After the complaint was filed on January 1, police arrested the accused and booked them under the recently initiated E-Petty cases (under which officials use a tablet to process and expedite the case instead of going through the usual paper work) to fast-track the process of administering justice.

Chandrababu Naidursquo;s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is fast ceding ground to the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh after the TDPrsquo;s humiliating defeat in last yearrsquo;s Parliament and state elections. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has gone into overdrive to accelerate the TDPrsquo;s exit from the opposition space by encouraging top guns in the Naidu camp to desert, in the run-up to the elections for urban and rural bodies. In the meantime, the BJP is sparing no efforts to fill the vacuum left by Naidursquo;s party. Whorsquo;s more dangerous, Naidu or BJP ndash; this is the question that is haunting the ruling partyrsquo;s think-tank. In the third round of defections Naidu suffered a serious setback. Main pillars of the party in Prakasam, Kurnool and Kadapa districts came crashing, shattering the confidence of the TDP rank and file. Before the general elections, Naidu saw the exit of his key lieutenants such as Avanthi Srinivas, Thota Narasimham and Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, all sitting MPs during that time. The general elections left the TDP with just 23 out of 175 Assembly seats and three out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state with close to 40% vote share. Soon, it lost four of its Rajya Sabha members ndash; YS Chowdary, TG Venkatesh, CM Ramesh and Garikapati Mohan Rao ndash; to the BJP. Ahead of the soon to be held local body elections, Naidursquo;s party is in for a fresh wave of defections, rattling the party at the grassroots level. The situation is so grave that the party is not in a position to field candidates for most posts in urban bodies, mandal and zilla parishads for want of spirited leaders. Abandoned by strong leaders, the TDPrsquo;s vulnerable situation is evident in the present elections in the faction-hit Prakasam, Kurnool and Kadapa districts. TDP failed to file nominations in more than 550 MPTCs (Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies). Blaming it on ldquo;arm-twistingrdquo; by the ruling party, Chandrababu met Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan and called for a fresh election notification. nbsp; Jagan captures home turf In Kadapa, Jaganrsquo;s home district, the TDP is almost non-existent. AP Legislative Council former Deputy Chairman SV Satish Reddy, who waged a risky battle against Jaganrsquo;s family in Pulivendula from the TDP for over two decades, quit the party and embraced the YSRCP. Former minister P Ramasubba Reddy, whose family suffered heavily in feuds with the YSR faction for several years, also crossed over to Jaganrsquo;s party in pursuit of a safe shelter. The KE family will have to be on good terms with Jagan to save their skin. Naidursquo;s community under poaching In Prakasam district, Karanam Balaram, sitting MLA representing Cheerala and militant leader from the Kammas next to former Assembly speaker late Kodela Sivaprasad in coastal Andhra, met the Chief Minister expressing his wish to join the YSRCP. Balaram is the second legislator from the Kamma community the TDP has been identified with, after Vallabhaneni Vamsi of Gannavaram, to cross over to the YSRCP. Balaram is a faction leader involved in several criminal cases, including murder cases. The rivalry between Naidu and Jagan seems to have crossed the boundaries of politics. Naidu tried to demonstrate his politics of poaching by taking in 23 of his MLAs and eating into his party, now it is Reddyrsquo;s turn to pay his rival back in the same coin. In the process of finishing his rival off, Jagan treated the BJP as lsquo;enemyrsquo;s enemy is a friendrsquo; and took its clandestine support in the general elections. But the BJP nurses its own ambition to grow on the ruins of Naidursquo;s party in Andhra Pradesh where it is non-existent. Citing the live cases in Telangana and West Bengal, a senior leader from the Amaravati region urges the YSRCP chief to be prudent in his mission to wipe out the TDP lock, stock and barrel by drawing a lesson from Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. KCR identified relatively more potential threat from the BJP after it made substantial gains in the last Parliament elections, making inroads into his partyrsquo;s bastions in north Telangana. 16 killed as boat capsizes in Krishna river in Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada: At least 16 tourists, including nine women and two children, were killed and eight others went missing as a boat capsized in the Krishna river near here, in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district on Sunday, officials said.

The boat overturned at Ibrahimpatnam Ferry Ghat around 5.20 p.m. There were 41 tourists on board belonging to a private operator and returning from Bhavani Island to Pavitra Sangam, or holy confluence of Krishna and Godavari rivers.

Locals and rescue workers rescued 15 people. Krishna District Collector B. Lakshmikantham said nine persons were admitted to hospitals. The condition of one of the injured is stated to be critical.

Home Minister N. Chinnarajappa, who rushed to the site, said 16 bodies had been recovered while the search was on for the missing.

The National Disaster Response Force personnel joined divers in the rescue operation, which was hampered due to the darkness after sunset.

The tourists, most of them hailing from Ongole town in Prakasam district of the state, were returning to Pavitra Sangam for performing some religious rituals at the end of their day-long trip to Bhavani Island.

Chinnarajappa said 32 members of the Ongole Walkers’ Club were among those on board. He announced Rs 8 lakh compensation each to the families of the deceased.

Overload is believed to be the cause of the accident, he said, adding that the private company also did not have permission to operate the boat.

Survivors said they boarded the private boat as the boats of the Tourism Department were not available. They also complained that there were no life jackets on the boat.

The District Collector said a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was booked against the company operating the boat.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed shock over the accident and ordered a probe by a senior police officer.

After the complaint was filed on January 1, police arrested the accused and booked them under the recently initiated E-Petty cases (under which officials use a tablet to process and expedite the case instead of going through the usual paper work) to fast-track the process of administering justice.
