New Brand Partnership with CyberLink
I now have a brand partnership with CyberLink, a company that makes various productivity software such as PowerDirector, PhotoDirector, and PowerDVD. To see what they have, and to make a purchase, you can go to https://www.kqzyfj.com/click-100819754-10764354.

Okay
So
I finally got to watch Unicorns
The movie was good
But SO NOT WORTH all the fuckery I had to go through just to be able to watch it on my laptop
Like. Jesus fucking Christ
I felt like I was looking for an actual unicorn just to be able to watch it.
They think WAYYYY too highly of themselves man.
You can only stream it if you live in the UK and Northern Ireland, which I don't.
So I bought the Bluray like they wanted us to bc that's the only way anyone who lives anywhere else other than those two countries could watch their movie.
And then! They went through all the trouble putting all this extra encrypting and whatever on the Bluray disc that made it virtually unreadable AND unplayable on my laptop.
I needed buy a new DVD player that can specifically play Bluray discs because nobody had one that could play it. And jfc it was a pain. I went to multiple malls and multiple appliance and computer stores and literally NOBODY had a bluray disc player bc people don't do discs anymore nowadays. They do streaming. I could only get one online which I did.
And then! Literally no software could play their Bluray. VLC doesn't work because of some AACS decoding issue. Like when the disc is open I can see it has an aacs folder but I guess they encrypted that shit to hell and back bc VLC keeps giving me an error that it cant decode the aacs.
So I had to buy a full license for a different video playing software called PowerDVD that can specifically play Bluray discs bc the free version of the only software that could play their disc can't fucking play Blurays. Only the licensed one could. And this was AFTER I tried a bunch of different other video playing softwares, none of which could play the disc.
So yeah. Anyways definitely going to avoid Signature Entertainment especially when it comes to Blurays bc jfc if that's what it's like to watch one of their movies then I don't ever want to deal with any of their other movies.
Anyways if anyone wants spoilers feel free to message me

Just a little something I bought for myself. Since forever I wanted to watch this and now I can. I had two options: buy the Catalan version or the more expensive English version. The differences in prices are staggering. Apparently there is supposed to be a Polish version of the Gospel of Us however its unknown when if ever that version will be available.
I was worried that the Catalan version wouldn’t have English version available and instead it would be a voiceover edition where the English language is replaced by the Catalan one fully. Thankfully I’m able to switch between them.
The second problem was with the disc. It had trouble being read by my BD reader however all I needed to do was to switch the programs I normally use to make watch movies from PowerDVD to VLC.
So yeah, that's what I'm going to watch tonight after I come back from work.

project updates. feel free to dm or send an ask for details on the programs I'm using
getting an external blu-ray player was the biggest non-refundable cost so far (around $65.00). I've found a free blu-ray ripper, but the trial period ends in a month so I have to work fast
I also have a dvd player (cheaper - $17ish, and also a present), and I paid for a yearlong dvd ripper program ($43) before I found the blu ray one. I have time for this later, so I'm prioritizing the films I want in high-quality first before my blu-ray trial runs out
with youtube premium you CAN download videos, but you can only view them on yt and you lose access to them once your premium account ends. I found a low-quality website to download most of rgu, but some of the episodes weren't downloadable
for films that aren't in english (prey, the handmaiden, cthd, etc), I'm thinking I'll just have to buy the blu-rays. I want them in high-quality and I want to see them subbed, but ripping them doesn't always carry the subs over. the handmaiden is proving so expensive and difficult to find I'll probably end up recording a library copy of the blu ray. I can do that anytime, so it's not urgent. and it's important to me that I get a high-quality copy
as I said earlier, anime series will be particularly hard to find copies of to download since I want to watch it subbed. yu yu hakusho is the one exception
tv series in general seem to be a challenge. I tried copying a disc with three episodes plus bonus content and it was a huge mess. nothing was labelled when they were transferred, and I didn't remember which episode went where, so I gave up in the end. torrenting might be the way to go for tv shows. we'll see how my next attempt goes
the ripping takes anywhere from 45 minutes to a little under two hours, depending on the size and number of files
once captured, videos ARE good quality and easily watchable on vlc media player or powerdvd 22, a program I kind of accidentally downloaded. I think I only have a month left on cyberlink, but vlc is a practical and sturdy program
I'm copying all my files to an external drive I already own because I just don't have the space. I have to delete all the movies from my PC once they're moved over, which makes me nervous, but I will have a little external library soon
having two USB inputs is great. it's something I knew I'd need when I bought this computer some...three years ago and it's really paying off. I wanted one with a disc drive, but that was just not practical :(

I literally had the same exact problem when I sold my desktop about a month ago but removed my internal Blu-ray drive to re-use with my Linux laptop and basically had to follow the exact same steps of installing MakeMKV and flashing LibreDrive firmware onto my drive just so it could read Blu-rays because the Cyberlink PowerDVD software that's used for Blu-ray playback only runs on Windows.
Tumblr media
The good news is that the big problem I thought I would have (using a full-sized desktop drive with a laptop) turned out to be a non-issue with a cheap USB to SATA converter.
Tumblr media
Blu-ray DRM is really devilish. I use a program called makemkv to rip them, because there is no other way to play them on my laptop, and there are no legit linux options for blu-ray playback, you have to crack the drm to play them. The easiest solution is makemkv to rip the movies into files, it works out of the box.
But if the level of drm (aacs) on a particular blu-ray is higher than what Makemkv can handle, the disk will update the firmware on your drive to revoke access to makemkv, so it can't access any blu-rays.
"One famous “feature” of AACS is a so-called host revocation. It was designed to ensure that only “approved” software can use your drive. Every Blu-ray disc contains a file that has a list of host keys known to be used by "unauthorized" software. This list has a version number. The moment you insert the disc into your drive, the drive checks if the list is newer than the one it knows about, and if it is, the drive re-flashes itself (updates firmware)."
And that happened to me. It was a blu-ray of the 1972 Hammer horror movie Fear in the Night that did it. The one program that works with my blu-ray player now couldn't access any discs, including ones it had ripped before. And there are absolutely zero linux programs that are authorized to playback blu-ray discs.
I had to flash my drive's firmware to allow something called libredrive, which allows direct access to files and bypasses the aacs drm firmware.
And that was quite the journey. I had makemkv installed as a flatpak via my distro's software manager. and I needed to use the command line. Flatpaks are a great packaging format. but they are primarily for gui apps. So i had to build makemkv from source. And then I had to figure out the commandline for the firmware flashing tool included with makemkv, which was hard because the instructions linked flat out lie. There is no "flash" command for sdftools, there is only "rawflash", you have to read the thread carefully to find that out. This page helped. I had to download new patched libredrive firmware.
And finally i figured out the command I needed ""sdftool -d [drive name] rawflash main, enc -i [new firmware file name].bin. And now I can use my blu-ray drive again. It's now libredrive.
So much work to finally be able to use the drive I paid for, and the blu-ray discs I also paid for. I'm not running some major piracy operation, I just want to be able to watch movies I legally own on my laptop. And drm stopped me, and I had to break it.
This is why DRM is so bad, and anyone who uses it deserves all the piracy they are trying to stop with it. It's scummy to take someone's money and then interfere with their ability to use the copy of the products they own and paid for. It's such atrocious treatment of the customer that anyone who does it deserves to have their stuff pirated.

I ordered something out of curiosity
Okay, so I'm not a stranger to fakes. I have being sold a few of those in my time, usually popular box sets or Disney movies. The biggest fake was Game of Thrones S1-S7 Boxset. Those usually have a official release that is copied and sold as authentic one.
With this TV-Show we only have one original release for season 1.
Season 2 has not yet being released. It's only available on streaming platform.
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS IN ANY WAY. THIS WAS BOUGHT FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES ONLY. IN OTHER WORDS - HOW GOOD FAKE IS IT. I'M STILL WAITING FOR AN OFFICIAL RELEASE!!!
What you're about to see is probably - most likely not news to anyone who simply knows of this kind of thing existing.
Below you'll see pictures and screenshots. I do have a video taken of the MENU but due to a copyrighted video and music I won't post it here. I simply took the video so I could do screenshots since PowerDVD won't let me do it in the program itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first and second picture shows the front and the back of the Blu-ray box with plastic covering.
The third picture shows the inside of the box with the plastic covering taken off. The discs are numbered but you can tell instantly they are home made. Not just the picture on the discs but the readable part. It's as if you took a Blu-ray and burned a TV show on it yourself.
As you can see in the first picture of the "MENU", we have a big grammatical error. Instead of SETUP we have SUTEP. After we are redirected to that part of the menu, we have languages and subtitles available. They work.
When we click on EPISODE we are redirected to the menu with 3 episodes that have only Chinese titles without English equivalent. However you can easily tell by the moving miniatures which episode is which. Also there is an option, play all which simply starts Season 2 with episode 1.
The title screen for Amazon Prime pops up, obviously, and then the episode starts.
You will notice the timestamp on the last picture: 2 hours and 26 minutes. Yep, they are merged as a one big episode but don't worry. They have their Amazon Prime and post credits included so you won't have to watch it as a one big episode.
They work and that is the most surprising thing because I was sure I'd be contacting the seller or the platform to request a refund. I still will since as you know selling a illegal copy is - illegal!
Conclusion:
This is a bootleg, illegal copy that I bought simply because I was curious. I don't need it since I do have Amazon Prime membership, MAX, Netflix and Disney, Apple TV+. I have all of them subscribed.
I do buy DVD's and Blu-rays because I want to have a copy in case a show or a movie gets pulled from any of those platforms. So I hope Amazon Prime learns from this and simply releases the show officially.
That won't stop those who copy the discs. They will do that no matter what but I don't want to pay THEM to have the show on my shelf and to watch it whenever I want and in my old years in 50+ years!
I want to pay Amazon to have my show on the shelf. Same with MAX. Release the KRAKEN - Our Flag Means Death 2 seasons on DVD and Blu-ray.
