Runecast 5.1 ile Gelen Yeni Özellikler isimli bu yazımda sizlere Runecast’ın yeni gelen versiyonu ile birlikte gelen yeniliklerden bahsediyor olacağım.

Runecast 5.1 ile Gelen Yeni Özellikler

Runecast ile ilgili zaman zaman makaleler yazıyorum ancak bu süreçte Runecast kendini oldukça hızlı geliştirmeye devam ediyor. Geçtiğimiz zamanlarda makale yazdığımda Runecast’ın Nutanix support’unun olup olmadığı konusunda çok fazla soru geliyordu. Bu sorunuzu artık Evet! Olarak yanıtlayabilirim. Artık Nutanix AOS kullanıyorsanız Runecast ile ortamlarınızı analiz edebileceksiniz.

Runecast 5.1 ile birlikte gelen yenilikler hakkında kısaca bilgi vermek istiyorum.

Configuration Vault:

Configuration Vault özelliği aslında beni oldukça heyecanlandıran özelliklerden birtanesidir. Bu özellik sayesinde altyapımıza daha hakim olabiliriz.

Configuration Vault özelliği sayesinde VMware vSphere, VMware Horizon, AWS, Kubernetes, NSX, vCloud Director ve AWS gibi ortamlarda yer alan konfigurasyon verilerinin metaları Runecast’a kopyalanır. Bu veriler Runecast dashboard’ında karşınıza grafikler halinde sunulur. Configuration Vault’ın asıl amacı aslında altyapınızda yapılan değişiklikleri analiz etmenize yardımcı olmaktır.

Runecast 5.1 ile Gelen Yeni Özellikler

Bu özelliği biraz daha detaylandırmak istiyorum. 10 taneden az ESXi host’u bulunan firmalarda genellikle satın almalarda çok uğraşmazsınız. Ancak bir datacenter iseniz, altyapınıza yeni bir sunucu alımı yapmak istediğinizde büyüme raporlarına ihtiyacınız olacaktır. 2019 senesinde kaç virtual machine bulunuyordu, 2020’de kaç virtual machine’e ulaştık? 2019 senesinde datastore doluluk oranı neydi 2020’de ne kadar oldu gibi soruların cevaplarını bulabilirsiniz.

Aslında bu işlemleri VROPS üzerinden de gerçekleştirebilirsiniz ancak orada bu işlemleri gerçekleştirmek için kendiniz raporlar çıkarmanız gerekiyor. Bu raporları çıkarmak ve hazırlamak biraz sürenizi alıyor. Aynı şekilde Rvtools gibi raporlar ilede bunu yapabilirsiniz ancak Runecast size bu dataları günl��k verirken Rvtools gibi ürünlerde sadece çalıştırdığınız günü baz alırsınız. Runecast bizlere tüm verileri tek bir ekranda günlük rapor şeklinde verebiliyor. Tüm bunlara ek olarak, ESXi hostlar arasındaki versiyon farklılığı, fiziksel sunucular arasındaki donanım ve firmware farklılığına kadar detayların hepsini tek bir ekranda görebilir ve bunları CSV formatında dışarı çıkarabilirsiniz.

Yukarıda örneği doğrudan VMware üzerinden verdim ancak, eğer bir AWS kullanıcısı iseniz, Eleastic IP, Load Balances, RDS Cluster, RDS Instance ve VPC’lerinde detaylarını görebilirsiniz. Yukarıda hangi ürünleri support ettiğini ayrıca belirttim zaten.

Configuration Vault özelliği sayesinde altyapınızda bulunan farklılıkları görebilir, böylece eğer bir sorun yaşıyorsanız bu sorunun konfigurasyon farkından mı kaynaklı sorusunun cevabını hızlı bir şekilde görebilirsiniz.

Remediation:

Runecast’ın üzerinde en çok uğraştığı aslında özelliklerden birtanesi Remediation özelliği diye belirtiliyor. Bende bunu anlattıktan sonra ne kadar güzel bir özellik olduğunuda kendiniz anlamış olacaksınız 🙂

Remediation, bir sorun tespit edildiğinde bu sorunun düzeltilmesine yardımcı olan harika bir özelliktir. Elbette şuanda tespit edilen sorunların hepsi otomatik olarak düzeltilemesede, ilerleyen sürümlerde bu kapsamın daha da ilerleyeceğini, yeteneklerinin artacağını düşünüyorum.

Remediation özelliği sayesinde altyapınızda oluşan bir hata veya bir konfigurasyon hatasını düzeltebilirsiniz. Örneğin ESXi Server üzerinde SSH’ı aktif duruma getirdiğinizde, Host üzerinde sarı bir ünlem çıkacaktır. Bunun sebebi aslında güvenlik açığından kaynaklanmaktadır. Zaten VMware Best Practices’lerini okuduğunuzda SSH’ı kullanmadığınızda disable etmeniz gerektiğini görürsünüz. 22 numaralı port SSH tarafından kullanıldığı için siz servisi başlattığınızda bu port üzerinden dışarıdan bağlantı sağlanabilecektir.

Bundan dolayı eğer kullanmıyor isek, SSH’ı stop durumda bırakmamız gerekmektedir. Ancak çok büyük ortamlarda maalesef bunun takibini yapmam mümkün olamayabiliyor. Eğer Runecast kullanıyorsanız Best Practices bölümünde karşınıza çıkan uyarılara müdahale edebilirsiniz. Yukarıda vermiş olduğum örnekte olduğu gibi SSH servisi start durumda ise karşınıza çıkan Remediation butonu ile bu servisi durdurabileceğiniz PowerCLI ve Ansible script’leri karşınıza çıkacaktır.

Runecast’ın Remediation özelliği gibi çalışan farklı bir ürün hakkında bilgi vermek istiyorum. vRealize Orchestrator aslında burada bahsedeceğim Remediation özelliği gibi işlemleri yapabiliyor. Orchestrator, VMware’in enfazla kullanılan ürünlerinden birtanesidir. Çünkü ayrı bir lisansa ihtiyaç duymaz ve vCenter Server lisansı ile birlikte gelir. Ancak ileri seviye scripting bilgisine sahip değilseniz Orchestrator ile çok fazla işlem yapamazsınız. Dolayısıyla hem kullanımı zor hemde ciddi bir know how gerektiren bir üründür. Ancak Runecast sayesinde basit bir şekilde sorunlarımızı ç��zebileceğiz.

Ben açıkcası Runecast 5.1 ile Gelen Yeni Özellikler Remediation özelliğini ileride daha kapsamlı olacağını düşünüyorum. İlerleyen versiyonlarda otomatik müdahale gibi işlemlerde olabilir. Biliyorsunuz VROPS’da actios diye bir tab ve buradan bazı müdahalelerde bulunulabiliyor. Ben bunun Runecast içinde geleceğini düşünüyorum. Yani bir süre sonra, eğer Runecast’a sahipseniz altyapınızı hiç izlemenize bile gerek kalmayabilir:)

vRA Enterprise Level Distributed Installation

Recently I was fortunate enough to design and build an enterprise level distributed installation of the vRealize Automation suite of products and integrate it into an enterprise environment. I’ve done several vRA/vCAC deployments before but each time I do a new deployment I like to collate information, read all the latest articles and make sure what worked in the past for me hasn’t changed or more likely has been enhanced so I can provide an even better deployment.

For those unsure of what an enterprise distributed deployment comprises of I have added a logical diagram below

For my current deployment it was based on vRealize Automation 6.1 due to it being part of a Hybrid Cloud deployment but the architecture and layout are exactly the same for 6.2. (note this is defined after collecting customer requirements based on amount of workloads, NSX load balancing and the requirement of application services so make sure you have reasons for design decisions)

Resources

For the resources I used, some are ones I used in the past to learn how to do an enterprise deployment and some are ones I re-read prior to this deployment. I have listed them below to save me looking for them again but also to maybe help other people:

The first place anyone should start is the vRA documentation centre which has a large portion of the vRA documentation you will need to have read and at some points follow along with to do your deployment.

One of the most important documents to utilise is the Installation and Configuration document. As I mentioned, I was deploying vRA 6.1 so utilised the following document from page 43 onwards.

One challenge when deploying an enterprise level deployment of vRA is that you should at a minimum use internally signed certificates. For vRA if you are changing one on the components then you need to change all of them or else you will have a plethora of problems (I have spent countless hours in the past helping companies who have tried their own PoC , have only changed a few certificates and then deployed workloads that they now want to keep). For this portion I like to follow Eiad Al-Aqqad’s resources as to me they seem really straight forward and have worked really well in the past

NB: Make sure when importing the certificate into the appliances remember to remove the bag attributes at the beginning of the PEM file and start from —BEGIN CERTIFICATE—– until ——–END CERTIFICATE————-

Once you have the certificates prepared then you can start the deployments. I used the identity appliance rather than the vCenterSSO due to the identity appliance following the same upgrade schedule as all the other vRA components and in the past I have hit a few problems due to people using vCenter SSO. There are positives and negatives of using SSO so make sure you look at both options and select the correct option for your deployment. The official documentation is good but I also used Emad and Grants blogs for the deployment of the identity appliance

Next portion is the configuration of the external vPostgres database and for this I used the vRA appliance and disabled the services that were not required. For this i used the official documentation. If you don’t know how to deploy the vRA appliances then go to the next step , follow that then come back to this step (Although I do worry if you don’t know how to deploy an appliance)

Now you need to deploy the vRA appliances. This is fairly straight forward and really shouldn’t cause you any issues.

Next are the IaaS components. This is SO MUCH easier than the vCAC 4.1 days now that there is the pre-req script. The script can be found here. Before installation of the IaaS components ensure you have ntrights.exe downloaded, a windows iso attached to the virtual machine (2012 requires this but 2008 never did) and java 7u75 downloaded in an easily searchable folder (java version is correct as of this posting). For these steps I was going to break it down into a few blog postings but fellow vBrownbag member, Jonathan Frappier has done such a cracking job I recommend you follow his:

Now that the components are installed it is time to grant permissions, create the required tenant/s for your cloud workloads apart from the default tenant and create all the business groups. Again Jonathan has broken this down brilliantly and this is what I re-read prior to my deployments

Now on to the application services, adding and preparing of vSphere templates and creating entitlements so that services can be requested. Again Jonathan has covered it perfectly ( as does the official documentation that you should be following alongside these)

Now for the vRO deployment as well as including NSX into vRA and installing the NSX plug-in to the vRO server. For vRO I used the windows method rather than the appliance route due to us being unable to do multi-hop WinRM using the PowerShell plugin when we need to run PowerShell scripts locally on multiple servers rather than locally on the vRO server. Troubleshooting

Along the way I hit a few errors and spent a fair bit of time with VMware support also on a few of them. The main ones are listed below:

Received a 401 error in the Infrastructure Tab of vRA

Received a 404 error when opening thevRA portal

Received a “Failed to retrieve form from provider” when requesting an Application Service catalog item in vRA

Received errors about trust relationships failing between the components

Received a “Failed to retrieve form from provider” when requesting a catalog item in vRA (this is using multi-machine rather than application services). This error is one I still have a ticket with engineering open for as what is happening is that when we do a quiesced backup of the vRO database this at times causes one of the vRO nodes to stop due to a timeout in connectivity to the database. Currently the only way fix is to start the stopped node. I will update this if/when VMware engineering give a realistic solution.

#PowerCLI 5.0.1 Release - Install and Notes

It's a happy day in the PowerCLI world. VMware released their latest update, 5.0.1. This release finally brings to light the vCloud Director cmdlets that many of us have been waiting for so patiently. Luc Dekens has put together a great rundown of the new features on his blog at http://www.lucd.info/2012/01/10/powercli-5-0-1-goes-cloud/ so I'll try not to overlap. Also check out Jake Robinson's post at http://geekafterfive.com/2012/01/09/powercli-in-the-cloud/. In line with my post for the last release here are some install screenshots. I left out some of the common Next Next's. Want the vCloud Director cmdlets? Better pay attention when doing the install. Check it out below. Download the latest code to local disk from http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/server/vsphere/automationtools/powercli Make sure you close any IDEs like ISE, PowerGUI, etc. as well as any PowerShell or PowerCLI sessions you have open. This should eliminate any need to reboot. Launch the installer. Note the new build version 5.0.1.4431. Get your Next on

HALT! I was a little surprised that the vCloud Director portion was not set to install by default. It makes sense however since not everyone using 5.0.1 will need vCD cmdlets. That being said, make sure you update this if you wish to install this snap-in. Back to the Nexts

Naturally it will remove the previous version and install the new. This install appeared to be more time consuming than previous installs. My guess is that this is a result of having 2 snap-ins being installed rather than one. Once complete I launched PowerCLI and checked my version with Get-PowerCLIVersion. This cmdlet will give you the build number of both PowerCLI and all of the Snap-ins. Extremely helpful if you're having issues and look for help in the release notes or the community forums.

Runecast ve Hardware Compatibility

Merhaba,

Runecast ve Hardware Compatibility isimli bu yazımda sizlere Runecast’in yeni gelen özelliklerinden birtanesi olan Hardware Compatibility hakkında bilgi vereceğim. VMware ortamlarında ESXi hostların upgrade’lerini yaparken donanım uyumluluğunu mutlaka kontrol etmek gerekiyor.

Eğer bir versiyon upgrade’i yapacaksanız kullanmış olduğunuz donanım’ın support etmiş olduğu versiyonlara dikkat etmeniz gerekiyor. ESXi host’larınızı donanımları tarafından support edilen versiyonları kontrol etmeden upgrade yapar ve unsupported bir versiyonda bulunursanız altyapınızda mutlaka ve mutlaka çeşitli sorunlar ile karşılaşırsınız. Özellikle büyük altyapılarda upgrade konusu ciddi bir zaman alan bir konudur. Çünkü sadece ESXi host’ların upgrade’ini yapmanız önemli değildir. Upgrade öncesinde kullanmış olduğunuz altyapının yeni versiyon ile uyumluluğuna kadar hepsini tek tek incelemeniz gerekiyor. Tek tek incelemeden kastım aslında sadece donanım uyumluluğu değil, bu donanım üzerinde bulunan aygıtlarında driver/firmware uyumluluğunuda kontrol etmeniz gerekiyor.

Runecast ve Hardware Compatibility

Runecast Analyzer kullanmıyorsanız bu testlerin hepsini manuel olarak yapmanız gerekiyor. Bir fiziksel sunucunun hangi ESXi versiyonunu support edip etmediğine basit bir şekilde VMware HCL üzerinden kontrol edebilirsiniz. Ancak bu donanımlar üzerinde bulunan RAID Controller, HBA, Network kartı gibi aygıtların kullanmış olduğu firmware ve driver versiyonlarını tek tek kontrol etmeye kalkarsanız ciddi bir efor harcarsınız ve mutlaka gözden kaçırdığınız bazı noktalar olur. Özellikle altyapınızda 5 ESXi host ve fazlası bulunuyor ise belki 1 gününüzü bile ayırabilirsiniz. Şimdi ben bunu böyle yazıyorum ancak aklınıza direk şu gelebilir. Bunların hepsini PowerCLI ile export alabiliriz ve böylece kontrol edebiliriz diyebilirsiniz. PowerCLI ile evet kullanmış olduğunuz aygıtların driver ve firmware versiyonlarını export edebilirsiniz ancak yine bunları kontrol etmek isterseniz VMware HCL üzerinden tek tek kontrol etmeniz gerekir.

Runecast Analyzer kullanıyorsanız tüm bu bahsetmiş olduğum işlemleri basit bir şekilde yapabilirsiniz. Üstelik hangi versiyonda hangi donanım ve aygıtlarının support’unun olup olmadığınıda görebilirsiniz. Tüm bu bahsetmiş olduğum işlemleri Runecast Analyzer sayesinde saniyeler içerisinde yapabilirsiniz.

Runecast Analyzer kurulumunu yaptıktan sonra HW Compatibility bölümüne girebilirsiniz.

Runecast ve Hardware Compatibility

HW Compatibility bölümüne girdiğinizde, upgrade veya update etmek isteyeceğiniz versiyonu seçip simulate butonuna bastığınızda yukarıdaki ekran ile karşılaşacaksınız. Burada Server ve IO Devices olarak iki bölüm bulunuyor. İlk olarak Server bölümünden bashetmek istiyorum. Benim kullanmış olduğum donanım Supermicro’nun bir donanımı. VMware HCL üzerinde yer almadığı için karşıma supported veya unsupported gibi bir şey çıkarmadı. Not found in HCL olarak gösterdi. Bu çok güzel birşey çünkü VMware HCL’de olmaması donanım’ın üzerine ESXi kuramayacağınız anlamına gelmiyor 🙂 Anakartın doğrudan support’u olmadığı için sizlere Runecast üzerinden göstermek istedim. Burada kullanmış olduğunuz donanım’ın CPU modelini, soket sayısını, BIOS versiyonunu görebilirsiniz. Burada isterseniz Override butonuna basabilirsiniz.

Override butonuna bastığınızda karşınız yukarıdaki gibi bir ekran gelecektir. Eğer unsupported bir donanım veya benim kullanmış olduğum gibi HCL’de yer almayan bir donanım kullanırsanız Override globally butonuna basıp bu donanım’ın uyumlu olmadığını kabul edebilir ve bu listede uyumlu diye gösterebilirsiniz.

Kullanmış olduğum fiziksel sunucu üzerindeki donanımların yani Network kartı, HBA gibi aygıtların uyumluluğunun olup olmadığına IO Devices bölümünden bakabilirsiniz. IO Devices bölümüne girdiğinizde sol taraftan seçmiş olduğunuz ESXi versiyonuna göre fiziksel donanımınız üzerindeki parçaların/aygıtların versiyon uyumluluğu kontrol edilir. Yukarıda 2 farklı resim ekledim. Kullanmış olduğum donanım’ın üzerindeki parçaların/aygıtların ESXi versiyonuna göre uyumluluğunu göstermek istedim. Örneğin ESXi 6.0’da support edilen parçalar/aygıtlar ESXi 7.0’da support edilmiyor.

Fiziksel sunucu üzerinde kullanmış olduğunuz parçaların/aygıtların firmware ve driver versiyonlarını görmek için o bölümü genişletebilirsiniz. Runecast Analyzer her ürün için VID DID SVID ve SSID numaralarını vmware hcl üzerinden karşılaştırır ve karşımıza bu şekilde sonuçları çıkartıyor.

Özet ile Runecast Analyzer ‘ı mevcut vmware altyapınızı upgrade veya upgrade etmeden önce kullanabilir ve hangi donanım’ın hangi versiyon ile uyumlu olduğunu görebilirsiniz. Yukarıda da bahsettiğim gibi eğer büyük bir altyapınız var ise bu isze ciddi anlamda kolaylık sağlayacaktır.

Merhaba,

PowerCli ile Snapshot Raporu isimli bu yazımda sizlere vCenter veya ESXi üzerinde bulunan virtual machine’ler üzerindeki snapshot’ların nasıl raporunu nasıl alabileceğinizi anlatacağım.

Fiziksel sunucular üzerine doğrudan işletim sistemi kurmaktansa fiziksel sunucu üzerine bir hypervisor kurup fiziksel donanım üzerinde sanallaştırma yapmak her zaman için kaynak kullanımı anlamında daha verimlidir.

Fiziksel bir donanım üzerine, ESXi (hypervisor) kurduktan sonra sunucu kaynaklarını kullanarak sanallaştırma yapmış oluyoruz. Sunucu sanallaştırma yaptığımız için mevcut fiziksel CPU sayısından daha fazla miktarda sanal CPU kullanabiliyoruz. Aslında sanallaştırma sayesinde elinizde var olmayan kaynakları da sanal sunuculara tahsis edebiliyorsunuz. Tabi gereğinden fazla sanal CPU yani vCPU kullanmanız size ileride performans problemleri ve stabilite problemleri çıkarabilir. Bundan dolayı fiziksel CPU’nun sanal CPU’ya oranını optimize bir şekilde hesaplamanız gerekiyor.

Ben bu yazımda fiziksel CPU’nun sanal CPU’ya oranından bahsedeceğim ve bunun hesaplama methodlarını anlatacağım. Anlam karmaşası olmaması için yazının devamında aşağıdaki kısaltmaları kullanacağım.

Fiziksel CPU = pCPU

Sanal CPU = vCPU

Vermiş olduğum VMware eğitimlerinde de bana çok sık olarak sorulan sorulardan bir tanesi de pCPU’nun vCPU’ya oranının hesaplanması oluyor. “ESXi’in kurulu olduğu fiziksel sunucuda 24 core var. Biz sanal sunucu oluştururken kaç vCPU oluşturabiliriz?” Bu soruların yanıtını bu yazımda detaylı olarak anlatacağım.

Yukarıda örnek olarak ESXi kurulu bir sunucunun CPU bilgilerini görebilirsiniz.

Yine yukarıda örnek verdiğim ESXi ‘dan powercli ile aldığım bir raporda toplam pCPU ve vCPU miktarlarını görebilirsiniz.

Öncelikle, sunucu sanallaştırma yapıldığında elinizde var olmayan kaynakları da verebilirsiniz. Yani bu şu demek oluyor; 24 Core CPU‘nuz bulunuyor ancak siz ESXi üzerindeki sanal sunucuların CPU’larını topladığınızda belki 96vCPU kullanıyor olabilirsiniz. Aynı benim yukarıda verdiğim örnek gibi. Burada bir kısıtlama bulunmuyor. Ancak bunu sürekli dengede tutmanız öneriliyor. Neden öneriliyor diyorum; çünkü değişen işlem yükleri sayesinde ve oluşan overcommitment’den dolayı performans problemleri yaşayabilirsiniz.

Peki buradaki konfigurasyon nasıl olmalı ve bunun hesabı nasıl yapılmalıdır? Bunun için öncelikle ESXi üzerindeki fiziksel core’un hesaplanması gerekmektedir.

(Fiziksel soket) x (core) = Toplam fiziksel CPU yani pCPU miktarını belirtir. Eğer ortamda HT aktif durumda değil ise virtual machine’e maksimum verebileceğiniz vCPU miktarıdır.

Eğer ortamda HT aktif durumda ise;

(pCPU) x (2 x core) = Toplam vCPU sayısını verir.

Şimdi basit bir örnek ile ilerleyecek olursak;

Her biri 16 core olan 2 fiziksel sokete sahip bir sunucumuz bulunuyor. Bu sunucu üzerinde aynı zamanda HT aktif durumdadır. Bu durumda yukarıdaki hesaplamaya göre ilerleyecek olursak;

(2 soket) x (16 core) = Toplam 32 core bulunuyor. Eğer HT aktif durumda değil ise bir sanal sunucuya verebileceğiniz maksimum CPU miktarıdır. Ancak HT aktif durumda olduğu için hesaplamaya devam ediyoruz.

(32 core) x (2) = HT aktif durumda olduğu için toplam vCPU miktarımız yani sanal sunucuya verebileceğimiz maksimum CPU miktarı 64 ‘dür.

Şimdi asıl soruya gelelim. 64 vCPU kapasiteli bir sunucumuz bulunuyor. Bu sunucu üzerinde kaç adet virtual machine barındırabilirim? Öncelikle yukarıda belirttiğim gibi CPU overcommitment sayesinde siz elinizde var olmayan kaynakları da kullandırabilirsiniz. Bu durumda, 64 vCPU ‘ya sahip 10 tane sanal sunucu oluşturabilirsiniz. Toplamda 640 vCPU atanmış olabilir ancak sanal sunucular bukadar kaynağı kullanamaz. Neden? Çünkü ESXi’in üzerindeki fiziksel kaynak bu kadar değildir. Yani bu kadar CPU verirseniz performans problemi yaşamanız çok olasıdır. Bunun için VMware aşağıdaki oranları öneriyor ve buna göre hesaplama yapmanızı istiyor.

Yukarıda yapmış olduğumuz hesaba göre 64 vCPU kapasitemiz bulunuyor. Bu hesaba göre;

1:1 = Eğer siz ESXi altında oluşturduğunuz sanal sunuculara atanan toplam vCPU sayısını 64 veya daha az tutarsanız herhangi bir performans problemi yaşamazsınız. Bu oranı yanlızca ve yanlızca çok kritik iş yüklerinizin bulunmuş olduğu ortamlarda kullanmanızı tavsiye ederim.

2:1 = Siz burada 2:1 oranını kullanmak isterseniz ESXi üzerinde oluşturduğunuz sanal sunuculara toplamda 128 vCPU kaynak verebilirsiniz. Bu oranı seçtiğinizde herhangi bir performans problemi yaşamazsınız.

3:1 =Siz burada 3:1 ortanını kullanmak isterseniz ESXi üzerinde oluşturduğunuz sanal sunucularda toplamda 192 vCPU kaynak verebilirsiniz. Bu oranı seçtiğinizde ufak da önceki iki konfigürasyona göre düşmeler yaşanabilir.

4:1 = Siz burada 4:1 ortanını kullanmak isterseniz ESXi üzerinde oluşturduğunuz virtual machine’lere toplamda 256 vCPU kaynak verebilirsiniz. Bu oran aslında önerilen en optimal orandır.

Eğer siz burada 5:1 veya 6:1 oranını kullanırsanız ciddi anlamda performans problemleri yaşayabilirsiniz. Eğer VDI ortamı kullanıyorsanız 5:1 veya 6:1 oranlarını kullanabilirsiniz.

VMware tarafında eğer mutlaka bir kurala uymak istiyor ve oranların nasıl olması gerektiğini merak ediyorsanız yukarıda belirtmiş olduğum oranları kullanabilirsiniz. Burada belirtilen oranlar aslında tamamen mimarisel kararlardır. Siz hiç CPU tarafında overcommitment yapmak istemeyebilir ve 1:1 oranında kullanmak isteyebilirsiniz. Evet bu mümkündür. Farklı bir senaryoyu düşünecek olursanız 10:1 gibi bir oranı da kullanabilirsiniz. Tabi bu oran size çeşitli performans sorunları yaşatacaktır. Ancak kullanmanızda bir engel bulunmamaktadır. Overcommitment yapmaz iseniz CPU kaynaklarını daha efektif, verimli bir şekilde kullanamazsınız.

Buradaki oranlar sizin barındırmış olduğunuz sanal sunucular ile de ilgili olduğu için ortama göre değişkenlik gösterebilir. Örneğin cluster’ınızda Database veya SAP ağırlıklı virtual machine’ler bulunuyor ise burada 5:1, 4:1 gibi oran kullanmak çok doğru olmaz. SAP gibi Database gibi yüksek CPU gereksinimi isteyen sanal sunucular kritik olduğu için CPU bazlı performans problemlerinden etkilenmemeleri gerekir. Bundan dolayı 2:1 veya 3:1 oranlarını kullanmak daha faydalı olabilir. Ancak yukarıda da belirttiğim gibi bu tamamen mimarisel bir karardır, kesin olarak şu oranı kullanmalısınız gibi bir durum bulunmamaktadır.

Böylece yeni sunucu alırken hangi CPU modeli olacağını ve bunun kaç core olacağı yönünde çeşitli analizlerde bulunabilirsiniz. Tabi büyük bir cluster’ınız var ise bu analizleri yapmak hiç de o kadar kolay olmayacaktır.
