The New Zealand countryside of Picton is where our last port call took us - spilling into the winery area of Malborough and programmed deforestation.
Positioned right on the north recess of the south island, I would say that it may well be the busiest town for hundreds of miles around, with car ferries bringing northerners to the south every day, with a bustling lumber industry to add.
What’s rather a concerning misbehaviour (at least to visitor like me) that the locals seem to condone involves the frequent act of mass poisoning the flora of the land, laying waste to hectares of dead, withered trees all around.
And what’s more bizarre to me is that the same poisoned land are also used by the many wineries having their grapes plantations rooted on the soils where tons of poison were first introduced to kill those trees.
I would not be drinking from any New Zealand wineries if I were you.
