Everyday I think of Poppi.

I think of Poppi α and how precious she is and how she’s the only one who didn’t give Rex a hard slap in Theosoir at the start of Chapter 7 and her promise to Mythra in Morytha during Chapter 8(I think?)

I think of Poppi Qt and how cool she is and how little story significance she’s give after the whole Lila/Rosa arc in Mor Ardain.

I think of Poppi Qtπ and how she has NO role in the mainstory despite the fact that Poppi α talks about being scared of having the power to sink continents to Mythra in Morytha; the fact that her quest, WHICH IS SIDE CONTENT, is basically Tora’s quest to actually unlock that power within her; the fact that the H2H in the World Tree exists, and that both the English and Japanese version of it are terrible…

I think of Poppi Buster—super powerful canonically but lacklustre in terms of gameplay.

Anyway, I love Poppi, and I was excited to see her at the end of 3 and recognise the fact that she was the core to the Cloudkeep and… yeah.

I never get to talk about this anywhere but I think this is really interesting. In the Alrest Records art book there's this piece of art on the opening page of the Xenoblade 2 cast relaxing/sleeping in some ruins someplace in Leftheria that I can't recognize.

It's the usual cast of Rex, Pyra, Nia, Dromarch, Tora, Poppi, Mórag, Brighid, Zeke Pandoria. What's interesting is that Blades you can only get from the story are there too, Roc and Aegeon. It's not super weird to see Rock but it is a little weird to see Aegeon considering not even the developers seem to like him and even in Torna he was just kind of... there. The most interesting thing to me is the fact that there are two Quest specific blades and one common blade in the group: Praxis and Theory, the duo who had their own quests and of all the Blades, Boreas.

Usually official art never really cares for common blades. Very rarely do blades that aren't important to the story get anything extra. That being said both Praxis and Theory have swimsuits, just like how the Aegis girls do in other parts of the art book. This makes me think that they might be canon to the story, at least a version of the story we're not every single Quest was done just important ones like the core crystal thief storyline. It's a little weird to use swimsuits as evidence for something so dumb and useless but it's kind of interesting how they went through the effort. They even have special details on the swimsuit designs that you would not have seen otherwise.

Another Blade that's featured in official art is Poppi Buster, another quest specific blade. It makes sense in the context of the story why Poppi Buster would be a part of the team, same sort of logic with Praxis and Theory. Of all the blades why was it Boreas, the random chance/pity Blade, that they chose for this specific piece of official art? It makes me think that Boreas might be canon to that "not all quests" story. You can't really call a 100% save file the true story due to how much time that they would be wasting on the 30 something other rare blades.

I didn't have anywhere I was going with this but I thought it was really interesting that they chose specific blades to show in a full illustration and not others. That all being said it's kind of cool that we have a somewhat """official""" team put together with all these extra blades.

Please bear with me, I haven’t played through XC2 in a while.

I don’t like Tora much. There’s a lot of weird nonsense he does which I assume we’re meant to let fly cause he’s the nopon, the cute one, the little guy, but ummm no?

The whole maid function that Poppi α has? (Yes, HAS and not HAD, cause Tora doesn’t actually get rid of it, he simply places a different setting and unless I’m wrong, his dad asks him if it’s serving him well and his using it is alluded to in the game?)

He deflects by saying that it’s a remnant of his Grandpa’s and Dad’s work on Poppi but it’s pretty obvious that he fully intended on using it to play into his fantasies and the only thing that stops him in that moment is embarrassment? Mind you Poppi α has the mental capacity of and general appearance of A CHILD which just makes what’s already bad worse?

I don’t remember much about Tora’s interactions with Qt, but I’m pretty sure there’s some quest dialogue and H2Hs where Qt alludes to the not okay stuff Tora does and gets cut off or interrupted or whatever and it’s played up as humour??? Again, Qt is given the physical form and behaviours of someone who’s in late middle school or early junior high, which makes it worse???

And of course, there’s the Japanese version of the Qtπ H2H on the World Tree Poppi talks about a special dog feature that Tora gave her and then starts barking? The English version of the H2H is better, but that doesn’t mean much when they’re both bad, does it???

And the biggest problem imo is the power dynamic between Poppi and Tora. Unlike an ordinary Blade-Driver relationship, which ALREADY has a power differential (cause remember, the Blade’s life depends on their Driver’s) Tora’s relationship to Poppi is literally Creator-Creation.

He’s quite literally her master(pon (but that’s too cutesy for what we’re discussing here)).

Basically Tora(and family) created Poppi to satisfy their fantasies, and the problem here is that while she is a blade and Tora(and family) wished to be drivers, he uses her as an object for his weird fantasies? Gross.
