Baphomet: The Sabbatic Goat

Long post on the history and symbolism of Baphomet taken from my own personal research and BOS !! I also have a similar post for Lucifer in the drafts >:)

    Baphomet is an entity that the Knights of Templar were accused of worshipping during the Middle Ages. They are a representation of cosmic balance and an important figure in modern occultism. The first time that the name Baphomet has been seen in any historical or religious text is in a letter from the Templars about the Siege of Antioch describing how they were under attack and heard the attackers calling out to Baphomet. 

“As the next day dawned, they called loudly upon Baphometh; and we prayed silently in our hearts to God, then we attacked and forced all of them outside the city walls.“

  This letter has been interpreted in three main ways, the Templars worshipped a deity called Baphomet, Baphomet was a mistranslation of another name, or Baphomet was a codename for another pre-existing deity. 

Knights of Templar

  The Knights of Templar were a Catholic military order formed in 1120 to protect Christian travellers that wished to visit the Holy Land and not be attacked by bandits and thieves. They began as a mere group of 9 knights and had very few financial resources. Soon enough, the Templars were endorsed by the Roman Catholic Church, the Pope, and most of Europe. Very quickly, many Europeans began to pour donations and other resources into the order to support them and the fight for the Holy Land, the Pope at the time even granted them special permissions to not abide by any laws or taxes. The Templars seemingly rose to power overnight and answered to nobody besides the Pope, not even the King. They began one of the first banking systems, were one of the first multinational corporations, and began fighting the Muslim armies to protect Jerusalem. But that power didn’t last forever, in 1224 the Muslim armies recaptured Jerusalem and then Acre in 1291, the Templars lost the Holy Land and their support began to dwindle. In 1303, the Templars were relocated to Paris and rumours began floating around of them worshipping the devil - this is possibly in relation to an ex-Templar member who was falsely accused. King Philip IV of France, who owed the Templars a great deal of money, became personally interested in these claims and used it as an opportunity to dismantle the order. These claims were widely regarded as false but on October 13th, 1307 (Friday 13th *spooky noises*), the King ordered for all the Templars in France to be seized and “interrogated” for claims of heresy, false idolatry, and fraud. Despite there being 0 evidence of these claims being true, the Templars were brutally tortured and under so “confessed” to spitting on the cross, worshipping idols, engaging in homosexual acts with other members, financial corruption, heresy, and denial of Christ. On November 22, 1307, the Pope ordered for all the Templars to be seized and go through trials following the King's threats of military action, during which most of the Templars rebuked their confessions and attempted to defend themselves. However, King Philip IV was having none of this and decided to go ahead and take action against the Templars in Paris by burning them at the stake around 1310. The King then threatened military action against the Pope once more and the Knights of Templar were dissolved in 1312, though two leaders of the order were burned alive on March 18, 1314, under the order of the King.

  Despite the Templars ‘technically’ confessing to false idolatry, there was really no evidence. These confessions were all given under the force of torture and share major similarities to the forced confessions given by other enemies of King Philip IV so they shouldn't be taken with any real validity. They were accused of worshipping a mummified head and idol called Baphomet. The ‘Baphomet’ of the Templars is not the same Baphomet that we know of today and was believed to have been represented by a mummified head, cat, or demon, but there was no real evidence of this false idolatry existing beyond the letter mentioned at the beginning. In September 2001, the Chiron Parchment was found in the Vatican Archives which is a document from August 1308 detailing how the Pope cleared all the Templars of their convictions before dissolving the order in 1312. Today, the Templars are recognized by the Catholic Church as being falsely accused and convicted. So what was that letter really detailing?

The Origins of Baphomet

  The first recorded mention of Baphomet is in a letter from Anselm of Ribemont about the Seige of Antioch in 1098 -

“As the next day dawned, they (inhabitants of Antioch) called loudly upon Baphometh; and we prayed silently in our hearts to God, then we attacked and forced all of them outside the city walls.“

  The Templars were accused of worshipping a deity called Baphomet and the name came up many times in the confessions given by the Templars under torture. Scholars have determined that Baphomet is a corruption of the French word muhamet, which is the French version of the name Muhammad - the Muslim prophet. 

  During the Middle Ages, Europe deemed Muslims as a threat to the Church and believed that they were Pagans that worshipped Muhammad instead of God. Muhammad was believed to be possessed by demons or Satan himself. And because of this, “muhamet” was translated to mammet in English, meaning a false idol or god, a name used by many Christian European writers at the time to refer to Muhammad. Many stories were written at the time about Muhammad and Muslims, without explicitly stating it, depicting Muhammad as a wise person led astray by Satan to spread false prophecies and convince Muslims to follow him against the word of God. In Dante’s Inferno, the divine comedy written in the 14th century, 'Mohamet' is seen in the eighth circle of Hell and is being punished for schism (division of the Church) and causing discord. This is in reference to Muhammad and Muslims dividing Christians by "tricking" people into converting to Islam, a religion considered Pagan that worshiped a false idol. The Song of Roland, written in the 11th century, depicts Muslims worshipping ‘Mahumet’ and various idols like Lucifer and Apollyon all attributed to “Termagant”. Termagant is a name attributed to the "deity" that Christians believed Muslims worshipped and was often used in literature as a villainous god character to inaccurately portray Muhammad and Muslims as evil.

  Some have interpreted this to mean that the Templars were converting to Islam or incorporating Muslim beliefs in their religious practices, but the Templars were devout Christians that remained devoted up until their deaths, even asking to be bound in a praying position or facing the Notre Dame as they were burned alive by people of their very own faith. They wouldn’t integrate beliefs from their enemies into their own beliefs. The accusations of the Templars worshipping Muhammad likely originated from training that they went through to prepare themselves for the situation where they were kidnapped by Muslim armies and forced to worship him, since they believed Muslims worshipped Muhammad. 

“The word first turned up in a letter of 1098 written by a certain Anselm of Ribebont, who fought in the First Crusade. Describing the lead-up to a clash with Muslim soldiers, he wrote how ‘as the next day dawned, they called loudly upon Baphometh’ and we prayed silently in our hearts to God’. The context of the word here, along with other evidence from the First Crusade, heavily suggests that ‘Baphomet’ was simply a corrupted version of ‘Mahomet’, an old French word referring to Muhammad, the founder of Islam.” “Many scholars subscribe to the theory that such stories weren’t merely false confessions used to smear the Templars. Instead, the Templars may have been ordered to renounce Christ, worship idols and pledge allegiance to Muhammad as a kind of POW [prisoner of war] training, simulating the ordeals they might have to endure if they were captured by the enemy.” - Were the Templars Secret Devil Worshippers? Gnostic Templars? 

  While these explanations are accepted by most scholars, there are quite a few people that believe the Templars were up to something else. Some believe that Baphomet is a codename for a much older deity and that the Templars were Gnostics. Gnosticism is a Christian heretical movement, and that’s all I can really say in fear of completely misrepresenting the belief. Hugh J. Schonfield, a biblical scholar and religious writer, claimed in his work The Essene Odyssey that the word “Baphomet” was created by the Templars with the Atbash substitution cypher which is a cypher that substitutes the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet for the last, second for the second last, and so on. He translated Baphomet with this cypher: ""Baphomet" rendered in Hebrew is בפומת‎ (bpwmt); interpreted using Atbash, it becomes שופיא‎ (šwpy‘, "Shofya'"). This word comes out to the Greek word “sophia” meaning wisdom." This lead him to believe that the Templars were early Gnostics and worshipped the Gnostic divine being Sophia. Sophia is a divine feminine figure in Gnosticism who is considered to be the mother of the universe, though not the creator, and represents divine wisdom and the feminine soul. This, and in addition, the Templars using symbols similar to Gnostic symbols, has led many to believe that the Templars were Gnostics. While they might've used the symbols and even possibly subscribed to similar philosophies, they most likely weren't really Gnostics and a lot of these claims likely originate from when people were spreading rumours to disband them. Though, at the time, there were the Cathars who were actually Gnostics and some say that the two groups were intertwined in some way but we can never be really sure.

  There isn't much evidence to support these theories but the idea that the Templars were Gnostics or Freemasons is something that many people believe to this day with multiple TV series dedicated to finding proof of their hidden secrets. There are many, many actually insane and unfound conspiracy theories relating to the Templars, even some attempting to connect them to 9/11 through incredible reaches with numerology. 

 "Each World Trade Center Tower had 110 floors, a multiple of 11. One of them was struck by flight 11, which had 11 crew members, and so on. […] The order of the Knights Templar was recognized by the Vatican in the year 1118, whose integers add up to 11. There are 883 years between that date and 2001, and the sum of those numbers, 19, is the same as the number of hijackers. The number 19 allowed Hoagland to introduce the Koranic numerology of Rashad Khalifa, in which it is central. By the time Hoagland finished, the events of September 11 were revealed to be an attack by none other than the Islamic Order of Assassins on the Knights Templar and the Masons!" - A Culture of Conspiracy: Apocalyptic Visions in Contemporary America by Michael Barkun (2013)

  While the Knights of Templar were an extremely powerful and wealthy military and religious force, they were not a secret mastermind organization in possession of the mummified head of Jesus Christ and the Ark of Covenant who somehow exist to this day. They were wealthy bankers and a powerful religious military order, still important figures in history, but not the founders of the Illuminati or the targets of 9/11.

Baphomet in Occult Symbolism 

  Despite a lot of these ‘secret occult society’ claims being largely unfounded, Baphomet has earned a place in occultism as an important symbolic being of cosmic balance. How did the supposed false idol worshipped by the Templars become such a prevalent symbol in modern occultism and Satanism?

  In the descriptions of who or what the Templars were worshipping, they almost always were mummified heads or severed heads. So how did we get to the half-goat, half-man being we know today? The most popular depiction of Baphomet, and the first real depiction, was published in the work Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie (Dogma and Ritual of High Magic) by Éliphas Lévi published in two volumes in 1854 and 1856 which were translated by A.E. Waite as Transcendental Magic, its Doctrine and Ritual in 1896. In these works, Lévi discussed magick as a mediating force between religion and science and refers to it as an esoteric science. Lévi was a French occultist who was a devoted Roman Catholic priest until his 40s when he began teaching ceremonial magick, for a brief period of time he was a Freemason as well. He created the imagery for Baphomet as a symbol of ultimate balance, it’s believed he was inspired by the deity Pan and aspects of Kabbalah. The duality of humans is represented by the androgyny of Baphomet having one female and one male breast, the hands are positioned in a pose representing the Hermetic saying “As Above, So Below”, and the Latin words solve and coagula meaning dissolve and coagulate. Baphomet represents everything in balance with one another, the necessity of polarity.

“The goat on the frontispiece carries the sign of the pentagram on the forehead, with one point at the top, a symbol of light, his two hands forming the sign of Hermeticism (as above, so below), the one pointing up to the white moon of Chesed, the other pointing down to the black one of Geburah. This sign expresses the perfect harmony of mercy with justice. His one arm is female, the other male like the ones of the androgyn of Khunrath, the attributes of which we had to unite with those of our goat because he is one and the same symbol. The flame of intelligence shining between his horns is the magic light of the universal balance, the image of the soul elevated above matter, as the flame, whilst being tied to matter, shines above it. The ugly beast’s head expresses the horror of the sinner, whose materially acting, solely responsible part has to bear the punishment exclusively; because the soul is insensitive according to its nature and can only suffer when it materializes. The rod standing instead of genitals symbolizes eternal life, the body covered with scales the water, the semi-circle above it the atmosphere, the feathers following above the volatile. Humanity is represented by the two breasts and the androgyn arms of this sphinx of the occult sciences.” - Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie by Éliphas Lévi

  Lévi’s Baphomet has nothing to do with the Baphomet of the Templars or Muhammad, though, it’s theorized he might’ve been inspired to use the name by the mythical stories of Gnostic and Freemason Templars. 

  Baphomet has become a very popular symbol in occultism, but to the general public, many still believe it to represent Satan. Satan has been associated with goat imagery for a very long time, originating from the scapegoat (Azazel) ritual of Yom Kippur, but more modernly due to The Church of Satan adopting “The Sigil of Baphomet”. The original pentagram with a goat head comes from the work La Clef de la Magie Noire (The Key to Black Magic) by Stanislas de Guaita in 1897 which was inspired by Lévi. Guaita was a French poet and occultist who wrote about Christian Kabbalah and founded the Kabbalistic Order of the Rose-Cross. In his work, La Clef de la Magie Noire was the drawing of an upside-down pentagram with a goat's head and an upright pentagram with a human. Guita explains that the first upright pentagram represents the “white-light” symbol of man “voluntarily rejoined in the providential plan” and goes on to explain the down-turned pentagram - 

“But oriented in the opposite direction, the pentagrammatic Star is nothing more than a symbol of iniquity, perdition, blasphemy: its two points in the air become the horns of the foul Goat threatening Heaven, and whose head is framed with the stellar pentacle, with its low ears in the side branches, and its beard in disorder in the single lower point. [Page 386]”

Or simply put, upright representing spirit over matter (holiness) and upside-down representing matter over spirit (evil). These symbols became popularly used in occultism, Hermeticism, and even some Freemasonry books. It appeared in a book titled A Pictorial History of Magic and the Supernatural by Maurice Bessy published in 1964 in a chapter called “Satanic Sciences”, the cover is the bottom image without the names of Samael and Lilith.

Anton LaVey is the founder of The Church of Satan and writer of The Satanic Bible. LaVey came across Bessy’s book during his research of the LHP and found the symbol very “striking” and believed it fully embodied the principles of Satanism. In the early days of the Church, they used the symbol on their membership cards and some other merchandise. During the writing of The Satanic Bible, LaVey decided that there should be a new version of the symbol created exclusively for The Church of Satan, changes made (stated by the Church) were “The pentagram was made geometrically precise, the two circles perfect, the Hebrew characters were distorted to make them look more sharply serpentine and “corrupted with time,” while the goat face was redrawn with particular attention paid toward the eyes.” This symbol was named ‘The Sigil of Baphomet” and used on the cover of The Satanic Bible (1969) and the Church’s LP The Satanic Mass (1968), then copyrighted in 1983. The Church of Satan also recognizes that the sigil has nothing to do with the ‘Baphomet’ of the Templars.

  The Satanic Temple (TST) also uses Baphomet as a symbol in their logo and their famously controversial Statue of Baphomet. TST is a nontheistic church founded in 2012 and doesn’t believe in the supernatural existence of Lucifer or any other divine being, they focus mostly on activism and promoting respect and autonomy for all. They are a very controversial organization and frequently end up in the news when opposing Christian and Conservative efforts of taking away autonomy or pushing religion on people. In 2012, Oklahoma’s state capitol in Oklahoma City installed a statue of the 10 commandments, a very clear violation of Oklahoma’s State Constitution stating that religious monuments were not allowed on public (let alone government) property but since Rep. Mike Ritze paid for it, it was considered a “donation”. This caused a lot of controversies and angered many people and groups across the US, enough for someone to ram their car into it and destroy it in 2014. TST was very outspoken about their disagreements with the monument and said that they would donate their own statue to be placed outside the capitol and began to commission the Statue of Baphomet, though after the monument was destroyed TST said that if it wasn’t rebuilt then they wouldn’t go through with their plans. Alas, Rep. Ritze paid for it to be rebuilt. But, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled on the case Prescott v. Capitol Preservation Commission in June 2015, stating that the religious monument was a violation of the OK constitution’s ban on the use of public property to support religion, many people were enraged by this ruling but the 10 Commandments monument was ultimately removed from the Capitol’s property in October 2015. Lucien Greaves, the co-founder of TST, told the Washington Post “The entire point of our effort was to offer a monument that would complement and contrast the Ten Commandments, reaffirming that we live in a nation that respects plurality, a nation that refuses to allow a single viewpoint to co-opt the power and authority of government institutions.” A similar situation happened at the Arkansas State Capitol, they installed an uncanny 10 Commandments monument on June 27, 2017, which was destroyed within 24 hours (by the same person as OKC) but was rebuilt on April 26, 2018. This, again, caused outrage across the US and TST tried to donate their Statue of Baphomet but it was blocked by the courts. There is still an ongoing lawsuit with Arkansas and the American Civil Liberty Union as Republican state Sen. Jason Rapert sponsored a bill protecting the monument. The Statue of Baphomet is now located at The Satanic Temple in Salem, Massachusetts.

 

 Another very common depiction of Baphomet in the occult world is The Devil tarot card in Rider-Waite’s tarot released in 1909. The Devil card is the 15th Major Arcana card and depicts a horned goat-man inspired by Lévi’s Baphomet, he sits atop an altar with a woman and man on either of his sides and his arms are positioned in the “As above, So below” pose. This card represents the shadow self, sexuality, ridding oneself of masters, and exploring taboo topics. It can mean you’ve lost yourself in self-restriction or addictive habits, adversely it can mean you are your own master or indulging in natural pleasures as you see fit. There’s importance in balance and polarity.

 Baphomet is still commonly used as a symbol of cosmic balance but has evolved into a being that many people work with and worship, both as a symbolic being and a deity. Many transgender and genderqueer/gnc individuals embrace Baphomet as a symbol of androgyny, Satanists use Baphomet as a symbol of personal autonomy and indulgence in human pleasures, and occultists continue to use them as a symbol of cosmic balance. Baphomet has history and rich symbolic meaning that shouldn’t be stripped from them. It’s not as easy to find resources for Baphomet as it is for most other deities and I see a lot of misinformation on social media so I think it’s important to share the information I find for anyone that may be seeking it. There are very few issues this blogs agrees with the Pope on but surrogacy is one of them.

Olivia Maurel was born in the United States in 1991 through surrogacy. Now, she is campaigning to have the practice banned around the world. Maurel met Pope Francis on Thursday as part of her role as the spokesperson for the Casablanca Declaration for Abolition of Surrogacy.

ROME (AP) — An international campaign to ban surrogacy received a strong endorsement Friday from the Vatican, with a top official calling for a broad-based alliance to stop the “commercialization of life.”

A Vatican-affiliated university hosted a two-day conference promoting an international treaty to outlaw surrogacy, be it commercial arrangements or so-called altruistic ones. It’s based on the campaigners’ argument that the practice violates U.N. conventions protecting the rights of the child and surrogate mother.

At issue is whether there is a fundamental right to have a child, or whether the rights of children trump the desires of potential parents.

The conference, which also drew U.N. human rights representatives and experts, marked an acceleration of a campaign that has found some support in parts of the developing world and western Europe. At the same time, Canada and the United States are known for highly regulated arrangements that draw heterosexual and homosexual couples alike from around the world, while other countries allow surrogacy with fewer rules.

Pope Francis in January called for an outright global ban on the practice, calling it a despicable violation of human dignity that exploits the surrogate mother’s financial need. On Thursday, Francis met privately with one of the proponents calling for a universal ban, Olivia Maurel, a 33-year-old mother of three.

Maurel was born in the U.S. in 1991 via surrogacy and attributes a lifetime of mental health issues to the “trauma of abandonment” she says she experienced at birth. She says she was separated from her biological mother and given to parents who had contracted with an agency in Kentucky after experiencing infertility problems when they tried to have children in their late 40s.

Maurel says she doesn’t blame her parents and she acknowledges there are “many happy stories” of families who use surrogate mothers. But she says that doesn’t make the practice ethical or right, even with regulations, since she said she was made to sacrifice “for the desire of adults to have a child.”

“There is no right to have a child,” Maurel told the conference at the LUMSA university. “But children do have rights, and we can say surrogacy violates many of these rights.”

She and proponents of a ban argue that surrogacy is fundamentally different from adoption, since it involves creating a child for the specific purpose of separating him or her from the birth mother for others to raise as their own.

Monsignor Miloslaw Wachowski, undersecretary for relations with states in the Vatican secretariat of state, concurred, saying the practice reduces human procreation to a concept of “individual will” and desire, where the powerful and wealthy prevail.

“Parents find themselves in the role of being providers of genetic material, while the embryo appears more and more like an object: something to produce — not someone, but something,” he said.

He called for the campaign to ban the practice not to remain in the sphere of the Catholic Church or even faith-based groups, but to transcend traditional ideological and political boundaries.

“We shouldn’t close ourselves among those who think exactly the same way,” he said. “Rather, we should open up to pragmatic alliances to realize a common goal.”

The Vatican’s overall position, which is expected to be crystalized in a position paper Monday on human dignity, stems from its belief that human life begins at conception and must be given the consequent respect and dignity from that moment on. The Vatican also holds that human life should be created through intercourse between husband and wife, not in a petri dish, and that surrogacy takes in vitro fertilization a step further by “commercializing” the resulting embryo.

As the conference was getting underway, Italy’s main gay family advocacy group, Rainbow Families, sponsored a pro-surrogacy counter-rally nearby. The aim was to also voice opposition to proposals by Italy’s hard-right-led government to make it a crime for Italians to use surrogates abroad, even in countries where the practice is legal.

“We are families, not crimes,” said banners held by some of the 200 or so participants, many of them gay couples who traveled abroad to have children via surrogate.

A 2004 law already banned surrogacy in Italy. The proposed law would make it illegal in Italy for citizens to engage a surrogate mother in another country, with prison terms of up to three years and fines of up to 1 million euros ($1.15 million) for convictions.

Participants at the rally complained that the law would stigmatize their children and they denied anyone’s rights or dignity was violated in the surrogacy process, which they noted was legal and regulated.

“All parties involved are consenting, aware,” said Cristiano Giraldi, who with his partner Giorgio Duca used a surrogate in the U.S. to have their 10-year-old twins. “We have a stable relationship with our carrier, our children know her. So actually there is no exploitation, there is none of the things that they want the public to believe.”

In the U.S., Resolve, the National Infertility Association, which advocates for people experiencing infertility problems, has criticized any calls for a universal ban on surrogacy as harmful and hurtful to the many people experiencing the “disease of infertility.”

“Resolve believes that everyone deserves the right to build a family and should have access to all family building options,” Betsy Campbell, Resolve’s chief engagement officer, said in a telephone interview. “Surrogacy, and specifically gestational carrier surrogacy, is an option.”

She said the U.S. regulations, which include separate legal representation for the surrogate and the intended parents, and mental health and other evaluations, safeguard all parties in the process and that regardless less than 2% of pregnancies in the U.S. using assisted reproductive technology involves surrogacy.

“Most people do not expect to have infertility or to need medical assistance to build their families,” she said. “So when non-medical people speak about IVF and surrogacy in a negative way, it can be very discouraging and make an already challenging journey all the more challenging.”

Velina Todorova, a Bulgarian member of the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child, told the Rome conference that the U.N. committee hasn’t taken a definitive position on surrogacy, but that its concern was the rights of children born via the practice.

It was a reference to legislation to prevent parents from being able to register the births of children born through surrogacy in their home countries.

Trent Lott worried about how to keep his promise to the religious right, to speak out against the homosexual agenda, without seeming to endorse murder. Trent Lott endorses murder, of course; his party endorses murder, his party endorses discrimination against homosexuals and in doing so it endorses the ritual slaughter of homosexuals.

Democracy is a bloody business, demanding blood sacrifice. Every advance American democracy has made toward fulfilling the social contract, toward justice and equality and true liberty, every step forward has required offerings of pain and death. The American people demand this, we need to see the burnt bodies of the four little black girls, or their sad small coffins; we need to see the battered, disfigured face of the beaten housewife; we need to see the gay man literally crucified on a fence. We see the carnage and think, Oh, I guess things are still tough out there, for those people. We daydream a little: What does that feel like, to burn? To have your face smashed by your husband's fist? To be raped? To be dragged behind a truck till your body falls to pieces? To freeze, tied to a fence on the Wyoming prairie, for eighteen hours, with the back of your head staved in? Americans perfected the horror film, let's not kid ourselves: These acts of butchery titillate, we glean the news to savor the unsavory details.

And then, after we've drawn a few skin-prickling breaths of the aromas of torture and agony and madness, we shift a little in our comfortable chairs, a little embarrassed to have caught ourselves in the act of prurient sadism, a little worried that God has seen us also, a little worried that we have lazily misplaced our humanity, a little sad for the victims: Oh, gee, I guess I sort of think that shouldn't happen out there to those people, and something should be done. As long as I don't have to do it.

And having thought as much, having, in fact, been edified, changed a very little bit by the suffering we have seen, our humanity as well as our skin having been pricked, we turn our back on Matthew Shepard's crucifixion and return to our legitimate entertainments. When next the enfranchisement of homosexuals is discussed, Matthew Shepard's name will probably be invoked, and the murder of gay people will be deplored by decent people, straight and gay; and when the religious right shrills viciously about how the murder doesn't matter, as it has been doing since his death, decent people everywhere will find the religious right lacking human kindness, will find these Gary Bauers and Paul Weyrichs and Pat Robertsons un-Christian, repulsive, in fact. And a very minute increment toward decency will have been secured. But poor Matthew Shepard. Jesus, what a price!

Trent Lott endorses murder. He knows that discrimination kills. Pope John Paul II endorses murder. He, too, knows the price of discrimination, having declared anti-Semitism a sin, having just canonized a Jewish-born nun who died in Auschwitz. He knows that discrimination kills. But when the Pope heard the news about Matthew Shepard, he too worried about spin. And so, on the subject of gay-bashing, the Pope and his cardinals and his bishops and priests maintain their cynical political silence. Rigorously denouncing the abuse and murder of homosexuals would be a big sin against spin; denouncing the murder of homosexuals in such a way that it received even one-thousandth of the coverage his and his church's attacks on homosexuals routinely receive, this would be an act of decency the Pope can't afford, for the Pope knows: Behind this one murdered kid stand legions of kids whose lives are scarred by the bigotry this Pope defends as sanctioned by God. None of these kids will ever be allowed to marry the person she or he loves, not while the Pope and his church can prevent it; all of these kids are told, by the Holy Catholic Church, and by the Episcopalians and Lutherans and Baptists and Orthodox Jews: Your love is cursed by God.

To speak out against murdering those who are discriminated against is to speak out against discrimination. To remain silent is to endorse murder.

A lot of people worry these days about the death of civil discourse. The Pope, in his new encyclical, Fides et Ratio (Faith and Reason), laments the death of civil discourse and cites "ancient philosophers who proposed friendship as one of the most appropriate contexts for sound philosophical inquiry." It's more than faintly ludicrous, this plea for friendship coming from the selfsame Pope who has tried so relentlessly to stamp out dissent in churches and Catholic universities, but let's follow the lead of the crazies who killed Matthew Shepard and take the Pope at his word.

Friendship is the proper context for discussion. Fine and good. Take the gun away from the head, Your Holiness, and we can discuss the merits of homosexual sex, of homosexual marriage, of homosexual love, of monogamy versus promiscuity, of lesbian or gay couples raising kids, of condom distribution in the schools, of confidential counseling for teenagers, of sex education that addresses more than abstinence. We can discuss abortion, we can discuss anything you like. Just promise me two things, friend: First, you won't beat my brains out with a pistol butt and leave me to die by the side of the road. Second, if someone else, someone a little less sane than you, feeling entitled to commit these terrible things against me because they understood you a little too literally, or were more willing than you to take your distaste for me and what I do to its most full-blooded conclusion, if someone else does violence against me, friend, won't you please make it your business to make a big public fuss about how badly I was treated? Won't you please make a point, friend, you who call yourself, and who are called, by millions of people, the Vicar on Earth of the very gentle Jesus, won't you please in the name of friendship announce that no one who deliberately inflicts suffering, whether by violence or by prejudice, on another human being, can be said to be acting in God's name? And announce it so that it is very clear that you include homosexuals when you refer to "human beings," and announce it so that the world hears you, really hears you, so that your announcement makes the news, as you are capable of doing when it suits your purposes? Won't you make this your purpose too? And if you won't, if you won't take responsibility for the consequences of your militant promotion of discrimination, won't you excuse me if I think you are not a friend at all but rather a homicidal liar whose claim to spiritual and moral leadership is fatally compromised, is worthnothing more than...well, worth nothing more than the disgusting, opportunistic leadership of Trent Lott.

A lot of people worry these days about the death of civil discourse, and would say that I ought not call the Pope a homicidal liar, nor (to be ecumenical about it) the orthodox rabbinate homicidal liars, nor Trent Lott a disgusting opportunistic hatemonger. But I worry a lot less about the death of civil discourse than I worry about being killed if, visiting the wrong town with my boyfriend, we forget ourselves so much as to betray, at the wrong moment in front of the wrong people, that we love one another. I worry much more about the recent death of the Maine antidiscrimination bill, and about the death of the New York hate crimes bill, which will not pass because it includes sexual orientation. I worry more about the death of civil rights than civil discourse. I worry much more about the irreversible soul-deaths of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered children growing up deliberately, malevolently isolated by the likes of Trent Lott and Newt Gingrich than I worry about the death of civil discourse. I mourn Matthew Shepard's actual death, caused by the unimpeachably civil "we hate the sin, not the sinner" hypocrisy of the religious right, endorsed by the political right, much more than I mourn the lost chance to be civil with someone who does not consider me fully a citizen, nor fully human. I mourn that cruel death more than the chance to be civil with those who sit idly by while theocrats, bullies, panderers and hatemongers, and their crazed murderous children, destroy democracy and our civic life. Civic, not civil, discourse is what matters, and civic discourse mandates the assigning of blame.

If you are lesbian, gay, transgendered, bi, reading this, here's one good place to assign blame: The Human Rights Campaign's appalling, post-Shepard endorsement of Al D'Amato dedicates our resources to the perpetuation of a Republican majority in Congress. The HRC, ostensibly our voice in Washington, is in cahoots with fag-bashers and worse. If you are a heterosexual person, and you are reading this: Yeah yeah yeah, you've heard it all before, but if you have not called your Congressperson to demand passage of a hate crimes bill that includes sexual orientation, and e-mailed every Congressperson, if you have not gotten up out of your comfortable chair to campaign for homosexual and all civil rights--campaign, not just passively support--may you think about this crucified man, and may you support--may you think about this crucified man, and may you mourn, and may you burn with a moral citizen's shame. As one civilized person to another: Matthew Shepard shouldn't have died. We should all burn with shame.

I take in what the pope is saying, and I mention that there are Christians who live in situations that from the point of view of the church are irregular or somewhat complex, Christians that, in one way or another, live with open wounds. I mention the divorced and remarried, same-sex couples and other difficult situations. What kind of pastoral work can we do in these cases? What kinds of tools can we use? The pope signals that he understands what I mean and he responds:

“We need to proclaim the Gospel on every street corner,” the pope says, “preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing, even with our preaching, every kind of disease and wound. In Buenos Aires I used to receive letters from homosexual persons who are ‘socially wounded’ because they tell me that they feel like the church has always condemned them. But the church does not want to do this. During the return flight from Rio de Janeiro I said that if a homosexual person is of good will and is in search of God, I am no one to judge. By saying this, I said what the catechism says. Religion has the right to express its opinion in the service of the people, but God in creation has set us free: it is not possible to interfere spiritually in the life of a person.

“A person once asked me, in a provocative manner, if I approved of homosexuality. I replied with another question: ‘Tell me: when God looks at a gay person, does he endorse the existence of this person with love, or reject and condemn this person?’ We must always consider the person. Here we enter into the mystery of the human being. In life, God accompanies persons, and we must accompany them, starting from their situation. It is necessary to accompany them with mercy. When that happens, the Holy Spirit inspires the priest to say the right thing.

“This is also the great benefit of confession as a sacrament: evaluating case by case and discerning what is the best thing to do for a person who seeks God and grace. The confessional is not a torture chamber, but the place in which the Lord’s mercy motivates us to do better. I also consider the situation of a woman with a failed marriage in her past and who also had an abortion. Then this woman remarries, and she is now happy and has five children. That abortion in her past weighs heavily on her conscience and she sincerely regrets it. She would like to move forward in her Christian life. What is the confessor to do?

“We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods. This is not possible. I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that. But when we speak about these issues, we have to talk about them in a context. The teaching of the church, for that matter, is clear and I am a son of the church, but it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time.

“The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent. The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently. Proclamation in a missionary style focuses on the essentials, on the necessary things: this is also what fascinates and attracts more, what makes the heart burn, as it did for the disciples at Emmaus. We have to find a new balance; otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel. The proposal of the Gospel must be more simple, profound, radiant. It is from this proposition that the moral consequences then flow.

“I say this also thinking about the preaching and content of our preaching. A beautiful homily, a genuine sermon must begin with the first proclamation, with the proclamation of salvation. There is nothing more solid, deep and sure than this proclamation. Then you have to do catechesis. Then you can draw even a moral consequence. But the proclamation of the saving love of God comes before moral and religious imperatives. Today sometimes it seems that the opposite order is prevailing. The homily is the touchstone to measure the pastor’s proximity and ability to meet his people, because those who preach must recognize the heart of their community and must be able to see where the desire for God is lively and ardent. The message of the Gospel, therefore, is not to be reduced to some aspects that, although relevant, on their own do not show the heart of the message of Jesus Christ.”

Britain is among the countries that promote gay activities and gay marriages. They coerce and compel leaders of their former colonies, to allow homosexuality and lesbianism, to thrive in their respective countries. They try to force these commonwealth head of states, with threat of sanctions, to allow gays to operate freely in their countries. This is the same Britain, which claims to have brought Christianity to us. Britain is a heathen and occult nation, to say the least. Commonwealth Head of States’ meeting, is beginning to look like occult gathering. We therefore call on other ungodly nations, and individuals to have a change of heart.

We in Africa detest such abominations. We shouldn’t allow any occult nation to talk us into accepting such evil practices; no matter the material or financial inducement. Many people liked what the former President of Zimbabwe did years ago. He locked up two homosexuals that got married. He vowed he would only release them, if one of them would get pregnant. Cardinal O’Malley on Pope Francis' comments on Civil Unions

Quite understandably, the Holy Father’s recent statements concerning civil unions have captured the attention of the world press, because many people are anxious for the Church to change its position on marriage and family. Pope Francis strongly and consistently teaches that marriage is between a man and woman for a lifetime and that this is God’s plan for having and raising children.

The Pope’s endorsement of civil unions is not an endorsement of homosexual activity. Just as the Church does not campaign against civil laws that allow for common-law marriage or second marriages that are not sacramental, even though such arrangements can be in violation of the laws of the Church, the Holy Father recognizes that in civil society there can be cogent reasons to enact such laws providing for civil unions which are not the same as the institution of marriage.

Pope Francis has seen civil unions as a way for governments to provide protections and health care for couples in long-term, committed relationships, whether they be siblings or friends or partners. Such arrangements are not always of a sexual nature.

The Holy Father is very aware of the suffering and alienation of homosexual individuals, gay people, who are rejected by family and society. He is also keenly aware of the parents and loved ones who also suffer because a member of their family is bullied or marginalized for being different. The demands of sexual morality are very challenging for anyone seeking to lead a life of faithful discipleship. We do not serve people well by falsely claiming that we can change the Decalogue. Our task is to show people that we love them and care about them and that together we can strive to be better people, more generous, more courageous and more faithful to what God is calling us to do.

As you probably have heard in the news, earlier in August a Pennsylvania grand jury handed down a 1,356-page account of sexual abuse which involved around 1,000 kids and 300 priests during a period of approximately 70 years. It is another pedophilia scandal within the Catholic Church that adds up to their collection of countless other ones reported in recent years.

The commie pope—while on his two-day visit to Ireland—begged for forgiveness again, just the way he did in Chile back in January of this year.

You can notice how quick and scathing the mainstream media is to denounce these recurring events, after all we know who owns the MSM and the (real) Church has a long, well-known history of “anti-semitism” and resistance against the tentacles of globalism. I wish the media had the same commitment to inform the existence of other pedophile rings full of high-ranking people as well.

Is the problem of the church’s innumerous sexual abuse allegations really pedophilia? To me there is a deeper explanation for it, and that explanation is: homosexualism. 81% of the alleged victims are male and three-fourths of them are post-pubescent. As you guys are certainly aware of, the Church has a very big issue with homosexualism among its clergymen.

I have a theory for the high presence of gay men inside priesthood: until not long ago being gay was definitely not ok, homosexuals were not accepted as they are now, so they became priests.

The developed Western world of today encourages people to become gay, it applauds individuals for their gayness, but it wasn’t always like that. Now, try to imagine a closeted homosexual man living in the 50s, for example. What a better place to go than the Catholic seminary? People wouldn’t look you down, you wouldn’t have to get married, the place was filled with other young men (potential sexual partners) and that’s how the Church got corrupted by perverts.

Something that is—as he pointed out—extremely common among gay men. A 2009 report revealed that 74 percent of bisexuals had been sexually abused as children, I am pretty sure homosexuals follow the same numbers.

I won’t say homosexual behavior is exclusively caused by pedophilia because human (or animal) sexuality is a very complex topic which can certainly involve many variables. I just don’t buy that “born this way” hype, until this day not a single reliable proof of the existence of a gay gene or anything like it was discovered.

Pope Francis, a champion of the left-leaning agenda inside the Church, has been accused of covering up former Cardinal McCarrick’s abuse allegations (one of the many cases in Pennsylvania). The accusations were made by Carlo Vigano, a former Vatican ambassador to the US, and if it proves to be true–I am positive it is—that should result in pope Francis’ resignation. As a traditionalist Catholic myself I would be delighted with such an event.

Francis has already been complacent with other pedos before. One good example is the 2015 ‘Synod on the Family’ when the pope invited Godfried Danneels, a Belgium Cardinal convicted of covering up pedophiles in the 90s, to attend the meeting. Danneels is a hard-left priest that tries to push the Church ” liberal reformation” and admitted that he was part of a plot against (right-leaning) Pope Benedict and in favor of the election of leftie Francis.

To affirm that the Church’s gay/pedos are exclusively part of the left-wing priesthood would be too Manichean. I am sure there are tons of sick people who lean right also. But it can’t be denied that the liberals make up the vast majority of these issues involving sexual misconduct.

“Religious progressives”

For those who don’t know, the Catholic Church, just as any other political institution, is divided in factions that tend to be more liberal or orthodox. The liberation theology, for instance, is a movement created inside the Catholic Church (and some Protestant denominations) which aims to mix Christianity and Marxism.

Even if you are an agnostic don’t underestimate the influence they played in various regions such as Europe, Latin America and even New England. Brazilian Workers’ Party attributed their success to this movement and Unions.

Be wary of any religious leader that tries to push a liberalization of dogmas and traditions. Because all religions are intrinsically conservative according to their respective contexts, they establish doctrines that dictate sets of rules that must be followed properly in order to attain their objectives (whether is Salvation in Christianity or Nirvana in Buddhism). There are no (real) religions without their traditions.

Whenever you see liberal religious men doubt their characters. There is a good chance they don’t even bother with religion or spirituality, perhaps they are closeted atheist. What they do care about is the religious platform, which can offer various benefits such as large audiences, political influence, money and even sex.

Estimates of the number of gays in the priesthood are all over the lot, from 20 percent to 60 percent, although a Los Angeles Times poll in 2002 found only 15 percent of priests saying they were homosexual or “somewhere in between but more on the homosexual side.”

Every time pedo priests’ cases pop up in the MSM, secular people are very quick to point fingers and show their moral superiority, but they “forget” the existence of secular institutions that are way more sexually perverted than the “gayish” modern Church, such as Hollywood, the political and corporate world.

It is also important to notice that the Church was emasculated, an emasculation that took place during the process of secularization and establishment of liberal democracies across the Western world (e.g. French Revolution).

The Church had to be softened, becoming an institution that barely resembles the once powerful and great Church of the Crusades or the Inquisitions. This same phenom of emasculation can also happen in other secular institutions too, the Military, mainstream Music, Politics, Sports and even Boys Scouts. And it will only get worse as liberal-democratic globalism advances, so secular people: watch out!

St. Basil the Great, a 4th century bishop and Doctor of the Church, defended that gay/pedo priests should be publicly flogged. That was the (real) Church, not this sissy catholicism created after the Second Vatican Council (a modernist reform imposed in the Church from 1962 to 1965). A lot of things got bad in the 60s.

The (real) Church has a very important and vigorous story in the construction of the West. Always being a target to the globalists and that breed who rules the world, a clear obstacle to their goals.

Examples are many: Gabriel García Moreno, Catholic Equatorian president, who made a terrific job in a Confessional Equator and was killed by the Freemasons; Saint José Sanchez del Rio, who was killed by Mexican secular, freemason and leftist government with the support of the US, for refusing to abbandon his faith.

Inconvenient truths are ignored

The media only goes after what is convenient to their narrative, don’t expect them to expose Hollywood pedos nor the obvious link between pedo priests and homosexualism. The left has already pushed the normalization of pedophilia many times and I didn’t see the indignation of the MSM.

Church authorities are not legitimate

It is a dogma of the Catholic faith that the Church cannot substantially change. This means that the church cannot contradict nor change her teaching from what has always been universally taught or has been solemnly defined. Any one who claims to be Catholic and knowingly professes a faith which contradicts a teaching of the Church is considered to be a heretic and is considered to have a removed himself from the Church.

As St. Thomas states: “[one] who disbelieves [even] one article of faith does not have faith, either formed or unformed.” This is known as the unity of faith which means that all Catholics profess the same faith. Likewise it means that heretics cannot hold a clerical office in the Church. Thus if a heretic were to be elected even to the Papacy they could not be considered a legitimate Pontiff because a heretic has separated himself from the Church (source).

Would a real Pope bow to a religion declared false by the Church?

Simply put, you have to be Catholic to be Pope, and the absurdity of a heretic claiming the See of Peter is where we find ourselves today. For just as the institutions in the West have been infiltrated and seized by the enemy, likewise have the institutions of the Church been usurped by apostate forces. The hierarchy currently residing in the Vatican are not legitimate authorities and do not represent the perennial teaching of the Church. Therefore I have listed for your benefit the actual Church’s positions on some current areas of contention.

On Communism

The Catholic Church is vehemently opposed to communism. Without Pius XII valiant efforts, communism would have prevailed over postwar France and Italy. The Pope went so far as to issue the Decree against Communism in 1949 which excommunicated any Christian who professed communist doctrine.

Catholicism is the enemy of Marxism as it teaches that there can be no separation of Church and state, and an atheist government is immoral. Catholicism believes private property is a natural right going so far to say that depriving workers of their wages is a sin which cries to heaven for vengeance (compare that to our socialist tax code!).

On Migration and Culture

The current Muslim invasion of Europe would be met with the utmost resistance. It has always been the Church which has sought to safeguard Catholic Culture and in ages past has gone so far as to issue a call to arms against non-Catholics who have sought to destroy it.

Pope Urban II issued the Crusades and Pope Leo the great even went so far as to personally travel into the heart of the Hun army—to Attila himself—to deliver Rome from the sack that was to come. In 1571, St. Pope Pius V formed the Holy League that would go on to defeat the great Muslim Turkish Armada that was plaguing the Mediterranean.

The tradition of the Church has been to unite the West against external non-christian threats in order to preserve Western Christian culture.

On Abortion and Contraception

So what is the real teaching of the Church in regards to abortion and contraception? The teaching is any member who has an abortion or supports abortion is automatically excommunicated from the Church. That’s right: every single Democrat who claims to be Catholic is actually excommunicated, including Nancy Pelosi who likes to sanctimoniously drone how she is a good Catholic grandmother.

Contraception is also considered a mortal sin because it is an unnatural stoppage of life.

“Hence, after the sin of homicide whereby a human life already in existence is destroyed, this type of sin appears to take next place, for by it the generation of human nature is impeded.” -St. Thomas Aquinas.

I know this is unpopular with the readers, but the teaching is that those who engage in contraception have already committed murder in their heart. Contraception is what allows people to engage in recreational sex, because the natural end of sex has been set aside so too then has the institution of marriage, whose end is children.

Likewise, because we have committed murder in our hearts, we have become a petulant, immature, vain, and a sterile people similar to any other people who have taken the risk from reward or the consequences from pleasure. This is the most difficult pill to swallow.

On Feminism

The Church condemns feminism in the strongest terms. There cannot exist feminism without birth control.

“…any use whatsoever of matrimony exercised in such a way that the act is deliberately frustrated in its natural power to generate life is an offense against the law of God and of nature, and those who indulge in such are branded with the guilt of a grave sin.” -Pius XI Casti Cannubi

The Church asserts that Man is the head of the household and that a woman finds her vocation from being a good mother and housewife:

“This … does not deny or take away the liberty which fully belongs to the woman both in view of her dignity as a human person, and in view of her most noble office as wife and mother and companion; nor does it bid her obey her husband’s every request if not in harmony with right reason or with the dignity due to wife; … For if the man is the head, the woman is the heart, and as he occupies the chief place in ruling, so she may and ought to claim for herself the chief place in love.” -Ibid

The Pope has even gone so far as to condemn women’s suffrage:

“Woman can never be man’s equal and cannot therefore enjoy equal rights. Few women would ever desire to legislate, and those who did would only be classed as eccentrics.” -St. Pius X

On Pacifism

The Catholic Church is not simply just a religion of love and mercy. Christianity is not a weak religion, for our God is a God of Battles. Catholic Tradition encourages us to live our lives in the manner of our Lord Jesus who spoke of the struggle that his Church would have to endure.

“Do not think that I am come to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword.”-Mathew 10:34

Christians are not meant to sit idly as bystanders to the great struggle of good and evil in this world.

“For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood: but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness: against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.” -Ephesians 6:12

Pope endorses same-sex civil unions in new documentary film

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis endorsed same-sex civil unions for the first time as pope while being interviewed for the feature-length documentary “Francesco,” which premiered Wednesday at the Rome Film Festival.

The papal thumbs-up came midway through the film that delves into issues Francis cares about most, including the environment, poverty, migration, racial and income inequality, and the people most affected by discrimination.

“Homosexual people have the right to be in a family. They are children of God,” Francis said in one of his sit-down interviews for the film. “What we have to have is a civil union law; that way they are legally covered.”

While serving as archbishop of Buenos Aires, Francis endorsed civil unions for gay couples as an alternative to same-sex marriages. However, he had never come out publicly in favor of civil unions as pope.
