⁣ Samsung Galaxy Note 10+⁣ Taken on 06/06/2020.⁣ ⁣ It's been three months since I stepped outside the Piedmont region. Three months. It's hard to believe how time has passed so quickly, especially during what was one of the strictest and longest lockdowns implemented in Europe.⁣ ⁣ But it's thanks to such strict measures that Italy is gradually emerging from the once eerie silence and is coming to terms with living with the virus. Let's hope things pick up and that Italians – as well as international tourists – enjoy the summer and (re)discover the country's finest and wondrous attractions.⁣ ⁣ Speaking of wondrous attractions, today I've been in the southern part of the Alessandria province — a much undiscovered area that boasts little-known historical wonders, such as the castles of Molare and Tagliolo Monferrato, and well-made wine such as 'il Dolcetto di Ovada'.⁣ ⁣ What lets this heavenly picturesque paradise down, however, is its relatively poor transport network. The main town, Ovada, has a train station — that's something. But when I arrived there from Alessandria (which wasn't a direct route as I'd had to change at Acqui Terme), I was astonished to find that there were very few trains for the return journey. It meant I had to travel down to Genova and back up to Alessandria.⁣ ⁣ A waste of time and money, I initially thought. But then I saw no earthly reason why I shouldn't revisit Genova, even if it was a whistle-stop trip.⁣ ⁣ This is undoubtedly one of my favourite corners in Genoa: a colourful square between Via Balbi and Via Pre with one of the few washhouses protected by a metal roofing cover that has survived the invention of the washing machine.
