National Science Day (NSD) Celebration starts

Solan Celebration of National Science Day for the year 2023 started at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, Solan with a multifarious activities. This year the NSD activities were planned in an offline mode where a poster/model presentation competition was organized along with a one day workshop in JUIT. Participants from various parts of India which includes Jaipur, Ambala, Solan, Shimla, Bilaspur etc. actively participated and presented their scientific ideas. Some JUIT students also showcased their talent through this competiton. Posters and models were evaluated by a team of learned judges from various departments of JUIT. Prof. Vineet Sharma, Dr. Anil Kant, Dr. Poonam Sharma, Dr. Hemant Sood, Dr. Surojeet Hazra and Dr. Ashok Nadda were among the judges of this important competition. Honorable Vice chancellor of JUIT Prof. R.K. Sharma also visited the poster competiton and interacted with the students in great detial. Heads of the involved departments Prof. P.B. Barman and Prof. Sudhir Kumar also encouraged the students for their presentations. This event was cordinated by Dr. Tiratha raj Singh along with Dr. Ragini Raj Singh and Dr. Shikha Mittal. In addition to that, another important event was organized and it was a One Day Workshop in collaboration with Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV) Longwood, Shimla, (H.P.) on ‘Molecular Biology and Biotechnological Techniques’. The workshop was arranged by Prof. Sudhir Kumar HoD, BT & BI, JUIT and Dr. Anil Kumar Thakur Dean (Sciences), HoD-Botany, RKMV. Dr. Jata Shankar & Dr. Rahul Shrivastava from JUIT, coordinated the entire workshop. Inthis workshop, 60 students of B.Sc. (Microbiology, Biotechnology, Zoology and Botany streams) participated. Faculty members Dr. Rajender Prakash, Ms. Kartik S. M. Chanchan, Mr. Amit Sharma, Mr Rajesh Azad, from RKMV, Shimla accompanied the students and actively participated in the workshop. The main objective of the workshop was to educate and motivate students for exploration of different arenas in science, and provide them live demonstration and training on novel areas and topics related to Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. The workshop was conducted by the resource persons from the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, JUIT, Waknaghat. Dr. Rahul Shrivastava provided a practical demonstration of Drug Screening methods, and Biofilm Inhibition Assay used for Drug Discovery, Dr. Jata Shankar provided a live practical session on PCR and Real-Time PCR. The sessions were followed by pratical seesion on Industrial Applications of Plant Tissue Culture by Dr. Hemant Sood, and interaction on Enzyme Technology by Dr. Ashok Nadda and Dr.Uday M.   RKMV College, Shimla administration thanked the, JUIT for his motivation and support. JUIT administration, staff, research scholars and M.Sc. volunteeres provided their support for making the workshop a great success. JUIT Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajendra Kumar Sharma and Dr. Ruchi Ramesh, Principal, RKMV, Shimla expressed their delight over successful conduct of the First workshop under the MoU signed between JUIT and RKMV, Shimla. Sep 27, 2022 14:20 IST New Delhi , September 27 (AF): Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Tuesday announced that the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2020 would be accorded to legendary actress Asha Parekh. A jury comprising of veteran singer Asha Bhosle, award-winning singer Udit Narayan, veteran actress Poonam Dhillon, actor-turned-MP Hema Malini, and Kannada director-producer TS Nagabharana came to this decision. Thakur while making this announcement in Hamirpur said "it is a matter of pride for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to announce this prestigious award for the veteran actress." Asha Parekh is a renowned film actress, director, producer, and accomplished Indian classical dancer. Starting her career as a child actor she made her debut as a lead heroine in Dil Deke Dekho and has gone on to act in over 95 movies. She has acted in celebrated films like Kati Patang, Teesri Manzil, Love in Tokyo, Aya Saawan Jhoom Ke, Aan Milo Sajna, and Mera Gaon Mera Desh. Parekh is a winner of Padma Shri, awarded to her in 1992. She also served as the head of the Central Board for Film Certification from 1998-2001. Instituted in 1969 when presented to Devika Rani, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was introduced by the Government of India to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke's contribution to Indian cinema who directed India's first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra in 1913. The first activity i.e. online lecture on “understanding climate change and environmental hazards with reference to Jammu and Kashmir” was organised in collaboration with the Department of Geography and hosted by Renu Thakur and Dr. Poonam Bharti, Assistant Professor (Geography). Dr. Sarfaraz Asgher, Associate Professor in the Department of Geography, University of Jammu was the resource person of the event who presented his lecture on the topic “understanding climate change and environmental hazards with special reference to jammu and kashmir” and threw light on the causes and preventions of climate change. The second activity i.e. sympouism was organized in collaboration with the Department of Political Science on the topic of “Parliament of India” in which seven students presented their views on the different aspects and activities of the Indian Parliament. Some students also presented songs and dance on the occasion. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Ganaie. NSS Unit also organized two activities as a part of International Yoga Week celebrations i.e. Poster Making Competition and a rally to spread awareness of yoga among the students. The event was organized under the supervision of Prof. Palvinder Kumari, NSS Programme Officer. Dr. Chander Shekhar, Principal Govt. Cricket was primarily considered a game for Male gender. Cricket as it grew became gender neutral and women cricket started to rise up. Women cricket is not upto the level of men but slowly it is rising.

Many Cricket Pundits term women cricket as the next big thing in the world of sports. Women Cricket has fastrack by ICC in recent years and now they too will be having a world event year just like men from 2023 on wards.

The Women 's World Cup is set to begin from the 4th of March. Host New Zealand will take on West Indies in the opening match.

The tournament will be hosted in six cities -- Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Wellington. The tournament opener will be played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Tauranga on Friday, March 4.

The tournament will be played in a single league format with the eight qualified teams taking on each side once in the group stage. The top four teams on point’s table after the end of the league stage of the tournament will qualify for the semi-finals. With the first and second semis slated for March 30 and 31, respectively, the finals of the title of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 will be played on April 3 at Hagley Oval ground in Christchurch.

In India the athletics sport was first established during the British Raj. The sport is overseen at the national and international levels by the Athletics Federation of India, that was established in 1946. Despite the large number of people living in India however, at the highest level of the sport, only a handful of Indian athletes have ever won an award at a world (or major) championship.
