In Soviet architecture, a small ventilation window set within another window. Particularly useful in the cold winter months when opening a full window would be impractical.

I’ve substituted Ninel’s line with the closest approximate idiom and adapted the remainder of the paragraph accordingly.

Mile Long Stretch (Полтора Километра)

Literally “One and a Half Kilometers.” Not wanting to leave the Durnevs’ cantankerous dachshund with such an unwieldy name, and afraid that leaving Poltora Kilometra untranslated might obscure the humorous intention, I opted for adapting her name as “Mile Long Stretch.”

Portable garages (гаражей-ракушек)

Literally “garage-shells,” these collapsible metal garages have been very popular in Russia since the early nineties. Due to the lack of affordable parking options in Russia, these comparatively inexpensive “shells” quickly became the most common way for car owners to protect their vehicles. They are often illegally installed, however, and present a nuisance to other motorists. Since 2006, there has been a push by authorities to remove them, resulting in some public backlash.

Buckwheat

Per capita, Russia is the world’s largest consumer of buckwheat. It is usually prepared in a porridge called kasha, a staple of the Russian diet.

Founded in 1806, the Armory Chamber is one of the oldest museums in Russia. The word is often romanized as “wurdulac,” but I have opted to use Tolstoy’s spelling instead.

Yazvochka (язвочка), literally “little ulcer,” is used colloquially to describe someone who is malicious and irritating. An apt name for a class clown.

A pood is a now mostly obsolete Russian unit of measurement roughly equivalent to 36.11 pounds or 16.38 kilograms. I could not find a source for the legend the museum guide relates, so it may simply be an invention of the author.

Lieutenant Colonel Chuchundrikov (Подполковник Чучундриков)

Chuchundra (чучундра), from the muskrat character in Rudyard Kipling’s short story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, is used in colloquial Russian to mean “chump” or “fool.”

Õhtupoole läksime tagasi Uenosse, et shinkanseniga Minakamisse sõita. Jaamas tuli meile vastu Craig - autrallanne, kes meile tööd ja majutust pakub. 

Natuke Craigist ja tema perest: hästi toredad. Craig on 49-aastane väga sõbralik ja jutukas australlanne, kes on Jaapanis elanud kokku 22 aastat ja kuigi ta jaapani keel pole ideaalne (eriti aktsent on üsna tugev), ei peata see teda sugugi jaapanlastega suhtlemisel. Mis sõnavarast puudub jääb, teeb ta tasa hea tujuga. Kuigi me ostame endale ise süüa, võime vabalt kasutada köögis olevaid maitseaineid, õlisid ja muud vajalikku kraami, lisaks toob Craig meile enda röstitud kohviubadest tehtud cold brew kohvi, mida võime juua nii palju kui jaksame, jahu, suhkrut, margariini saia tegemiseks (saiamasina tõi ka meile), koogikesi ja muud huvitavat kraami näksimiseks ja viis sobarestorani sööma. Lisaks lubas meid linna sõidutada, kui meil vaja ja ta parasjagu saab. Ta räägib palju, aga küsib ka palju meie ja Eesti kohta ning tundub siiralt huvitatud, suhtleb peaaegu kõigiga Minakamist (eriti välismaallastega, kes seal elavad) ja siiamaani tundub igatepidi mõistlik ja tore. Tema naine Rika on jaapanlane, algselt pärit Tokyost. Craigiga võrreldes natuke vähem jutukam, aga ausalt öeldes kahte Craigi ei jõuaks ma ära kuulata. Rika on rohkem jaapanlase moodi, pigem tegutseb kui räägib, hoolas, asjalik, aga ka väga sõbralik ja naljakas. Nende lapsed on Mei (8-aastane), Mia (6) ja Johan (3). Mei ja Mai räägivad vabalt nii inglise kui ka jaapani keelt, on Rika moodi asjalikud ja Craigi moodi suhtlusaldid. Johan on nunnu, aga ülienergiline. Igakord kui maja- või autouks lahti teha, tormab ta välja nagu tuulispask. 

Natuke kohast, kus elame: meie elame üsna suures majas, mis ehitati umbes 50 aastat tagasi mingi firma poolt töötajatel puhkemajaks. Alumisel korrusel on köök, köögi kõrvaltuba, üks suurem tuba, meeste vets, naiste vets, meeste vannituba ja naiste vannituba. Ülemisel on 3 magamistuba (ühele suuremale saab seinavahele tõmmata, siis on 4) ja kolm kolituba. Lisaks on mõlemal korrusel suur kraanikauss. Maja on traditsioonilises jaapani stiilis: tubades on tatamipõrand, lükanduksed, vannitoas on kolm dušši ja suur vann (mida me ei saa kasutada, sest torud ei tööta). Paarkümmend aastat tagasi müüs see firma maja kellelegi kohalikule, kellelt selle siis Craig ja Rika kaks aastat tagasi ära ostsid. Tolleks ajaks polnud keegi maja tükk aega kasutanud, nii et nad pidid üsna palju seda korda tegema lisaks kohvikunurga juurde ehitamisele. Nüüd on maja peaaegu valmis (elutuba teevad praegu kohvikukülastajate kõlblikuks), kohvikunurk on ehitatud köögi külge. Maja asub Tanigawa orus suurte mägede vahel, Craigi ja Rika maja on ainult paarsada meetrit eemal, vahepeal näeme neid õhtuti Johanit aias taga ajamas. Tanigawa on osa Minakami linnast, kus on rongijaam, pood, kool, linnavalitsus ja muu vajalik. Pood ja muu linnaelu asub meie elamisest 3km kaugusel mäest alla. Atmosfäär ja elustiil tundub üsna nagu meil kodus, Tanigawa oleks nagu Illi küla: mõned majad üksikult metsa vahel, mõned kambakesi koos nagu Illi bussipeatuse juures (meie oleme kambakese hulgas), pood ja muu vajalik sama kaugel kui kodust Elva. Inimesi on ja elu käib, aga pigem rahulikumalt, palju vanainimesi ja mõned lastega pered. Ainult mäed on ümber ja onsene (kuumaveevanne) ja suusamägesid on palju. Minakamis elab jaapani maakoha kohta üsna palju välismaalasi, enmasti sellepärast, et siin on palju mäesuusaärisid ja muid seiklusspordifirmasid, kus välismaalastele meeldib töötada. Lisaks on palju jaapani naiste poolt juhitud väikeärisid: pagarikojad, õunapoed, kohvikud jms. Minakami asub Gunma prefektuuri põhjaosas ja oli väga populaarne siseturismi sihtkoht 70-80ndatel, kui shinkansenid ja kiirteed polnud veel nii levinud, sest siin on hea suusakohad ja onseni, kuhu Tokyo inimestele meeldis tulla. Viimased 30 aastat on aga inimesi ainult vähemaks jäänud, nii turiste kui kohalikke, aga Craigi sõnul on tunda, et koht hakkab uuesti vaikselt elavnema. Enamasti tänu seiklusspordile ja väikeäridele.

A Pra Khun Paen amulet with figure of a standing Golden Boy holding a sword and ready to fight in the back, made by Luang Phor Toon of Wat Phonimit, Bangkok. Made from mainly Din Jet Pacha (earth and human ashes collected from 7 Most Haunted Cremation Sites / Grave Yards in Bangkok) blended with holy powder, bone fragments of dead babies, and powder crushed from broken baked clay ancient Pra Khun Paen Gru Ban-krang, Supanburi Province. We've all become Poodies

Post a tasty breakfast at the castle we duly bought 8 of their specialty chocolates each of which were named after previous residents of the castle. 4 with strawberry and 4 caramel. They were to prove extremely tasty way beyond your usual offerings. Liz went looking for the sheep but he had been moved. We speculated whether it was in preparation for the table but he looked like he would be a very chewy offering so presumed it was for the paddock. We set off for the town of Sigulda which we had heard about and which also read well in crits. Scenery very flat, well farmed with plenty of corn looking crops (I noticed Pete said one field was Barley but he brought some extra knowledge having lived on a farm as a boy - I didn't really have a clue) and also with cows here and there (I COULD recognise them). Sparsely populated. Also pretty green. This was the standard scenery throughout Latvia and Estonia (to come). Low populations meant that there is still plenty of space. At Sigulda we drove into town and then went looking for the scenic chair ride which would give us a good view of some pretty nice and very verdant surroundings and potentially the castle. It was very amusing along the way to see kindergarten kids being taken for a walk, little tiny tots all strapped together in rows of two so they couldn't take off across the road. It was a bit like Santa's sledge with the teacher/carer in charge As we drove around I saw a little bunch of them about 100 metres away and just wanted a closer look so we went down that street. This was a fortuitous diversion as we stumbled upon a small park and toboggan ride. One of those little metal carts on a metal rail heading down a reasonably steep slope in and out of trees. All 4 of us were up for it and went on individually and laughed our way down though occasionally the corners were a bit sharp which made you thankful for the seat belt otherwise we might have been off. What a hoot and we all felt a bit younger and adventurous. Photos half way down told the story and Sue starred with a swashbuckling sweep of the arm and big smile captured perfectly. Unfortunately no soft copy. Part of the deal was a chair ride back up the slope so we killed two birds with one stone. The chair looked over and through the trees and passed over what looked like a real toboggan ride in winter with steep grassy slope. This place would look even more picturesque with the snow down. Next stop was Cesis. Another attractive town with a medieval castle. After a stroll through town which had a few interesting old buildings and shops it was time for coffees on the edge of a small square. A lazy 45 minutes and another stroll around town this time mostly outside the castle walls and through the gardens. They were setting up for some sort of event presumably a concert at a stage in the gardens which would have been a lovely place to sit with the castle as a backdrop. Part of the enjoyment and pleasure of being in this part of the world, especially as we were just passing through, was to just enjoy the relaxed ambience and picturesque scenery and towns (though some had the soviet concrete block look in places but all interesting one way or the other). Nothing too rushed here. We now had Estonia and the capital Tallinn firmly in our sights though it was more than three hours drive. Lunch was required. The town of Parnau was a possibility but it was too far away. We started to head up the coast with the Baltic to our left looking for anywhere to stop. A restaurant came up but apparently the waiting time for lunch was 40 minutes at least. Time we didn't really want to waste. It was also pretty formal when a reasonable sized snack would probably do. We pressed on and the hunger pangs in the car were becoming palpable. The little towns were coming fast enough but we couldn't find anywhere to eat. It just seemed like houses. Finally we saw a small cafe/store which had the charming sign "Pood" outside. The mind boggled about how this could be interpreted but clearly you could get something to eat there and who knows what else. Weather was quite pleasant with the sun out and around 22 degrees. Turned out it was just a small store/ pastry shop/ deli/ bottle shop. A sort of you name it we have it place. We got pizza and pastries and soft drinks and sat outside by a small field pretty pleased to have found it and just soaking up a bit of local, albeit basic, charm. Often the best. A stream of young people who seemed to be on a camp, some of them with bows (as in arrows) flowed into the shop and past us with the young guys usually in the throes of downing a can of beer which they had just purchased. Quirky and fun. Boxy visited the wooden outhouse which actually looked more like an incubator for mosquitoes but the rest of us were not game. He confirmed it was at the rudimentary end of facilities. On to Tallinn and we rolled up at the Park Inn Raddison in the late afternoon. Not our normal style of hotel (in that it's more your big and impersonal) but choice was pretty tight and probably cut the best deal, at least on booking.com, that we could find. Nothing flash but the room quite spacious and breakfast included. Did the job. Headed out around quarter to eight and found a local pub in the centre of town for pre dinner drinks. Much research going into dinner on the Internet and we decided to go to a restaurant called Ribe. A really good choice. Sue and I shared the halibut (tasty but a touch soft but that may have been how they like it) and Guinea fowl with Peter and Liz on the Guinea Fowl. Guinea fowl excellent and desserts were good too. Most of all it was a funky little place which would not have been out of place in most cities in the world. Waitress really helpful and friendly and she gave us some more restaurant recommendations including for their sister restaurant "Radio" for the next night. We headed home through the lively streets. Flower market still going. Liz and I are spending our late evenings exploring possibilities for the next phase of the trip. Ferry to Helsinki and a couple of nights there definitely on but post that we need to decide. Greece looking good. Peter and Sue tend to turn the light out earlier which may explain why they are a bit more sprightly than us first thing. Next morning after a hearty and tasty breakfast we went on the free tour of Tallinn. We really enjoyed it after a slowish start where the young lady who was our tour guide spent a little too long talking about a haunted house. 3 mins would have been enough not 10. We were looking for a bit more nitty gritty. Things improved though as we went along and she explained more about the history of Estonia and some relevant buildings and monuments. Life has been tough here with a series of wars and conquerors over many centuries. It has been ruled by Danes, Germans,Swedes and Russians. Independence was declared in 1920 and then in 1939 the Germans and Soviets carved up Europe with the Soviet Union taking over and independence went out of the window. Then the Germans were back in 1941 with the Soviets back again in 1944. Independence finally returned in 1991. Quotas of citizens were sent to Gulags, many never to return. The guide advised that the quota which was also the case in some other soviet satellites was just a number which was picked to ensure that those remaining understood the cost if you didn't toe the line. Buildings and monuments we saw included the Victory Column a monument to the war of independence 1918-1920 and a tribute to those who fought in it for which Estonians are eternally grateful. It was made of green glass in the shape of the cross of Liberty, Estonia's most distinguished award. It was actually only opened in 2009. Apparently there is a construction flaw in that in the moist and cold Tallinn winter mould gets into the monument. This means that they have to totally dismantle it pane by pane annually and give it a good clean. At great cost. Discussions about replacing it with a more practical icon not requiring this amount of maintenance cause consternation among the diehards and others and so each year the de-construction/ re-construction process continues. We also visited the Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral built in the late 19th century with the Russians hoping to move Estonians away from the Lutheran religion. It was disliked by many Estonians and post independence in the 1920s a decision was taken to demolish it. This never took place because it is gigantic and there were not sufficient funds to carry out the demolition. The church is opposite the Estonian parliament building and the demolition decision was revisited in the 1990s post the second declaration of independence to extend the car park for the MPs. Nothing has happened to this point and one fancies it won't but what would I know. We had progressively warmed to our guide and she took us to vantage points to get a good look at the city. Also she pointed out to us the bohemian part of town. Not very far from the old city ie 15 minute walk. After the tour we headed for it. It didn't disappoint, eclectic and alternative, little cafes and bars and a combination of quirky and tasteful shops. Also a very good market with all manner of offerings where we stopped for a coffee. After the tour finished we wandered into the main square where a stage was set up and the bohemian version of Morris Dancing was taking place compete with traditional folk outfits. Also some singing and recitals including by very young children. It was interesting to stop and watch for a while. I joked to Boxy would he get up there as they were asking for volunteers to dance when blow me down that's what they did. We were a bit too slow to get into the first set but I managed to have a dance with the prettiest of the dancers after that. I'm sure she said how come I got lumbered with the old fart? This was in front of the main stage and went for a couple of minutes. I stumbled around around doing the odd turn and poking a toe out here and there (complicated this Estonian dancing). They didn't suggest I apply to join the troupe at the end. We had a light lunch and then went our separate ways though that didn't last too long. Peter and I separately but pretty simultaneously stumbled upon a little craft beer cafe and enjoyed a tasty bevy. My Slovenian IPA was superb. Peter and Sue headed off to explore. Liz and I got together again briefly to look at an excellent painting , a portrait, which was a possible buy. Not exactly cheap and turned out I liked it more than Liz (so never really a starter😅). We then headed off separately again. Turned out we both really trundled around the old town just soaking up the laneways and sights. I headed upwards and enjoyed the views again. Back to the ranch and Liz and I spent a fair bit of time looking and booking our next legs. We probably just dallied 10 minutes too long doing so. Heading out around 8.00pm it had started to drizzle. We had decided on the sister restaurant to last night's which was a 15 minute or so walk away from the old town. In fact in a residential area. We grabbed some umbrellas from the hotel and with Peter leading the way on google maps we headed off. Within a few minutes drizzling rain turned to torrential rain. Sue and Liz who were both in sandals soon brought us to a halt under a building for some shelter. Water was streaming down the paths and the streets. A 5 minute or so stop and off we set again with rain back to a drizzle but water everywhere. It was particularly necessary to keep your eye out for passing cars as there were large puddles beside the footpath which could lead to a severe drenching. The drivers I must say seemed to appreciate this and gave us a wide berth thankfully. Anyway we arrived as a damp quartet with the girls particularly so. It was worth it. Delightful little restaurant. Maitre de/owner also very friendly. It was a sharing menu and whitebait, cauliflower, tuna and beef all went down well. As did wine and desserts (sticky date pudding, ice cream). The owner also gave us details of a restaurant in Helsinki to visit which apparently was not a tourist haunt. We had a drier trip home. I went for a quick stroll around town to walk off dinner while the others headed home. Tallinn had been good fun and interesting. Liz felt another day there would have been good. I found it a touch commercial but you can get off the beaten track. 2/3 days enough though I would suggest

Lemmikkohad ja kuhu soovitan minna

Räägin natuke kohtadest, mis on mulle siin seni muljet avaldanud ja jagan soovitusi, kuhu Barcelonas ja selle läheduses minna.

Number üks on kindlasti Castelldefels. Barcelonast 20km kaugusel asuv linn, kus asub ka EETAC (kool, kus õpirännet veedan). Castelldefels võlus mind enda ilusa mererannaga, kus on alati nii ilus ja rahulik. Sealt avaneb korraga vaade nii merele kui mägedele.

Usun, et reisihooajal ei jõua sinna ka kogu turistide mass, kes Barcelonat külastama tuleb. Samuti on seal palju söögi- ja joogikohti, kus aega veeta. Üks neist on kohvipood Cafe de Finca kus saab head kohvi ja maitsvaid kooke.

Juba söögikohtadest rääkides soovitaksin väga Barcelona kesklinnas asuvat Trópicot. Sealses menüüs oli väga lai valik erinevaid sööke (põhiliselt brunchi suunas). Eriti paistis silma suur valik jooke: valikus olid smuutid, kokteilid, tervisejoogid, värsked mahlad, kuumad joogid jne.

Kui otsida öist meelelahutust, siis enim soovitatakse klubisid Opium, Pacha, Sutton ja Bling Bling. Mulle jäi ka silma Downtown club, kus kaks korda käidud sai.

Lennukihuvilistel soovitan kindlalt minna El Pratis asuvasse plane spotting kohta. Sealt on väga hea vaade lennuliiklusele ja ka pingid, kuhu pikemalt istuma saab jääda.

Barcelonas endas tuleb muidugi igaühel endal ära näha kuulus Sagrada Familia: selle tegelikku suurust ja võimsust pole minu arvates võimalik piltidega edasi anda. Selle lähedal asub kunagine Sant Pau haigla, mis pakub kindlasti ajaloo- ja arhitektuuri huvilistele põnevust. Samuti on suvisemal ajal näha seal aias päris mandariini- ja granaatõuna puud. Arhitektuurihuvilistel tasuks kindlasti üle vaadata ka Barcelona katedraal. Jõuluajal võib selle eest ka jõululaada leida, kus muideks müüdi möödunud jõuludel ka ehtseid kuuski.

Jõulude ajal on praktiliselt iga tänav tuledes ja mitmes kohas võib näha ka ehitus kuuskesid. Kuigi lund pole, on jõulumeeleolu olemas. Kuna Hispaania on katoliiklik riik, on kohalikele jõulud oluline aeg.

Niisama aja veetmiseks on väga ilus koht Parc de la Ciutadella, kus asuvad ka Barcelona loomaaed ja Kataloonia parlament. 2018. ja 2019. aastate pingelisematel aegadel oli park sageli suletud, et Kataloonia iseseisvuse nõudmisega seotud rahvamassid ei saaks parlamendihoone lähedusse koguneda.

Kindlasti tuleks üle vaadata linna kuulsaim puiestee, La Rambla. Aga seal tasub hoolikas olla, sest suurtes rahvamassides leidub palju taskuvargaid ja muid turistilõkse.

Kui linnast kaugemale minna, siis minu esimene soovitus oleks külastada Bergat. Tegemist on asulaga, milles asuvast mäetipust avaneb hea vaade. Samuti on väga maalilised nii sõit Barcelonast Bergasse, kui ka sõit Berga mäetippu. Üles minnes peab aga ilmaga vedama, sest minul nii õnneks ei läinud ja kõik paistis ühtlaselt valge.

Šopinguhuvilised võivad suunduda La Ramblale ja Plaza de Catalunyale, sest seal on koos palju erineva hinnaklassiga poode. Barcelonast natuke väljas asub Viladecans The Style Outlets. Viladecansi asulas sees on šokolaaditehas, nii et sageli võib läbi linna liikudes tunda õhus tugevat šokolaadilõhna :)

Täna käisime kesklinnas ringi. Kõigepealt jalutasime suurte büroohoonete vahel, siis läksime natuke kõrvalisemasse jaapani tänavale, kus oli palju jaapani poode. Nami soovituse järgi suundusime otsejoones Custard Nakamurasse – väikesesse jaapani stiilis saia poodi. Ostsime sealt suure kotitäie igasugu saiakesi, mida läksime siis lähedalasuvasse parki sööma. Enne jaapani tänavalt lahkumist käisime veel jaapani kasutatud raamatute poes, kust ma ostsin endale 30baht (alla 1 euro) jaapani romaani, mis minu mäletamist mööda on Haruna üks lemmikutest. Pärast saia söömist suundusime järgmise pargi poole, aga poole tee peal kärgatas kõu ja hakkas iga õhtune vihmavaling. Tais on muideks praegu vihmaperiood. Õnneks olime parasjagu rongipeatuse lähedal, nii et saime katuse alla varjule. Vaatasime sealt pikalt liiklust. Kui suurem sadu tundus möödas, kõndisime edasi pargi poole. Oli ilus park küll, aga natuke igav, nii et läksime veel ühte. See oli natuke suurem, saime kasse silitada ja nägime varaani teed ületamas ehk võib öelda, et läks asja ette.

Õhtuks oli Nam väga head tai nuudli salatit teinud.

BALI

Meie lennuk maandus kell 12 päeval. Meil ei olnud ööbimist ja me ei teadnud kuhu minna. Kohe kui lennujaamast välja läksime hakkasid 100 matsi koos karjuma ja järele käima, taxi-taxi! Me olime kuulnud, et ega nendelt ei tasu taksot võtta sest hind on palju kallim, seega me hakkasime oma kottidega lennujaamast välja jalutama, vähemalt enda arust. Väljas oli kohutavalt palav. Me jõudsime kõndida max 10min kui enam ei suutnud. Otsustasime siis ikka takso võtta ja lasime tal viia ennast poodi, kus sim-kaarte müüakse, et me saaks endale kuskile ööbimise vaadata. Saime kaardid ostetud, hiljem tuli välja et kolm korda kallimalt kui muidu, aga see selleks. Leidsime siis air bnbst sobiva ööbimise, aga otsustasime mitte ära broneerida vaid lihsalt koha peale sõita. Sinna jõudes tuli välja, et polegi vaba tuba, aga kuskil eemal on üks villa saadaval. Läksime siis villasse, koha peal avastasime , et keegi töötaja elab villas sees ja nüüd peavad hakkama kohalikud teda välja ajama. Ühesõnaga, ootamist oli oma jagu ja esialgu tundus Bali korralik kaos. Liiklus on lihtsalt imetusväärselt imelik. Sõiduteed meenutasid tetrise mängu, kõik vabad augud täitusid rolleritega autode vahel. Me vältisime rolleriga sõitmist kaks nädalat. Kasutasime selle asemel Uberi taolist teenust nimega Crab, millega sõitmine käis sularahas ja imeodavalt! Viimased 10 päeva aga ikkagi rentisime endale need kaherattalised, ja peab tõdema, et liikuda sai palju kiiremini ja tegelikult ei olnud nii hullu midagi, liiklus tundus ühtäkki väga ühtlane ja hea vooluga. Siiski on muljetavaldav, kuidas ühe väikse rolleri peale mahub terve pere- isa, ema, kaks last, koer ja lõpuks veel mõni kodumasin ka.

Esimene koht kus me peatusime oli Canggu. Peamiselt kuurortlinn. Üks suur tänav kus võis leida kõiki erinevaid restorane, kohvikuid, poode jne. Tänava lõpus oli rand ja rannabaar. Esimesed kaks õhtut veetsime seal rannas ja nautisime päikseloojangut. Iga kord kui päike loojub, on selline tunne nagu näeks seda esimest korda, sest on lihtsalt niii ilus! Selles linnas on ka tempel Tanah lot, kus me käisime. Tegelikult võib Balil templeid leida igal pool. Enamus kodudes, kohvikutes jne on oma pisike tempel. Kohalikud usuvad, et nad peavad oma jumalatele iga päev ande andma, et neil hästi läheks. Tänaval pidi jälgima kuhu astud, sest nende jumalatele mõeldud korvikesed asusid tihtipeale ka lihtsalt tänaval nt poe ees. Igakord neid ka ei märka, ups. Jumalad on neil igale asjale ja elusolendile, nt riisile, päiksele, koerale ja kassile jne…

Järgmiseks peatuspaigaks oli Ubud. Veetsime seal neli ööd ühes väga mõnusas külalistemajas. Hommikusöögiks saime banaanipannkooke ja need olid nii head,  et tellisime üks hommik lausa 10 tükki. Ubudi über käisime kõik põhilised turistikohad läbi:

Ahvi mets- reaalselt meil oli hirm kui seal metsas käisime. Ei läinud minutitki mööda kui üks ahv hüppas Kristole pähe ja hakkas seljakoti lukku lahti tegema ja lõpuks hammustas teda peast. Kõik ahvid, kes seal on tunduvad mega närvilised ja see käik polnud väga nauditav. Välja arvatud lõpus viimased 10 min, kui olime juba selle keskonnaga harjunud ja saime isegi ahviga pilti teha. Ahvid on imelikud tegelased.

Liblika park- niiii ilus! Lihtsalt üks väikene ala, kuhu on istutaud palju ilusaid taimi ja kus liblikad lendavad ringi, üks ilusam kui teine.

Kuulus kosk- no mida, ei saa aru mida inimesed selles näevad, vesi oli must ja prügi vedeles kõikjal.

Kohvi maitsmine- kõige lahedam kogemus sellel päeval. Saime maitsta erinevaid kohalike kohvisi ja teesi, kaasaarvatud see kuulus kassikaka kohvi (luwak).

Riisipõld- ilus, aga täpselt selline koht, et lähed sinna ja teed oma pildi ära.

Tagasi sõites rääkis meile taksojuht, et Bali on koht kus PEAB riisi sööma, see on püha toit, püha riis. Balil on moto KÕIK ON ÕNNELIKUD. Seda üritas taksojuht selgeks teha. Riis pannakse kasvama täiskuu ajal ühe väikese ruudukese peale väga tihedalt. Kui see juba natuke suuremaks kasvab, siis istutatakse üks haaval iga taim suure maalapi peale ümber, seda ka täiskuu ajal. Kui riis kasvab, siis lastakse partidel vabalt põllul ringi joosta, et nad sealt ebavajalikud ussikesed ja putukad ära näksas, nii on pardid õnnelikud ja inimesed ka õnnelikud. Kõik on õnnelikud. Kui riis on valmis saanud, siis hakatakse seda käsitsi lõikama. Tõmmatakse üks peotäis riisitaime välja ja siis raputatakse seda, et terad kätte saada. Vanasti oli neil komme riisi 3 tundi keeta ja see pidi väga maitsev olema. Nüüd on aga enamus inimesed riisikeetja peale üle läinud, ning see saab valmis 20 minutiga. Balil oli riis tõesti maitsev.

Ülipopp on Ubudis teha joogat ja käia erinevates spades. Jooga stuudiod ja spasi võib näha kõikjal. Kaks hommikut käisime joogas. See kestis 1,5h ja oli väga intensiivne. Kristo lihtsalt tilkus higist ja ta matt nägi välja nagu bassein, väga märg. Ja no loomulikult käisime me ka spas, et ennast korralikult mudida lasta.

Edasi veetsime 4 päeva Gili Trawagani saarel. Läksime sinna laevaga, mis sõitis u 1,5h. See on pisike saar, kus ei liigu mitte ühtegi mootoriga liiklusvahendit. Turistidele on välja mõeldud hobusetaksod ja loomilikult saab seal iga nurga pealt jalgrattaid rentida. Me tegime saarele rattaga ringi peale vähem kui tunniga. Enamus rannaäär on täis kohvikuid või restorane ning pimeduse saabudes muutuvad nad eriti säravaks! Ühel päeval käisime snorgeldamas ja isegi kilpkonna nägime. Ülejäänud päevad vedelesime niisama rannas.

Gililt Balile tagasi jõudes veetsime me kaks päeva linnas nimega Gianyar. Kristo kuulis taksojuhilt, et seal olevat hea ööturg. See oli ka ainus tegevus selles linnas. Seal polnud muud väga midagi teha v.a võidelda kõhuhaigusega mille kõik peale minu ühest kohalikust restoranist said.

Ja viimased 10+2 päeva nautisme me villat Uluwatus. Kaks lisapäeva saime vulkaani pärast, mis otsustas just meie reisi ajal altiivseks hakata. Uluwatu on selline piirkond kus on mega palju ilusaid randu. Me rentisime endale rollerid ja käisime iga päev erinevas rannas. Selleks ajaks jõudsime me Baliga juba ära harjuda ja saime seda mõnuga nautida! Külastasime Uluwatu templit, aga väga turisti asju enam teha ei jaksanudki. Tänu vulkaanile olid enamus rannad inimtühjad ka, seega oli hea aeg mõnulemiseks. Üldiselt jäime me Baliga väga rahule ja oleme kindlasti  õnnelikud, et selle reisi ette võtsime!

1. What’s your favorite candle scent? Red Apple Wreath - Yankee Candle. It's perfectly Autumnal and always goes on half price sale after Christmas. I have far too many versions of it

13. Have you read any of the Harry Potter, Hunger Games or Twilight series? I got into the Harry Potter books in 1998 and am still in love with the series. I went to the midnight release for the last book. I watched all of the films in the opening week and vividly remember that the cinema i saw the first film at in 2001 had a Harry Potter themed sweet shop. I have jewellery, clothing, books, dvds, wands, other collectibles. I read the books with my mum when i was younger and watched all of the films in the cinema with her. she had her own HP merch. My wife also loves Harry Potter. We have been to see Cursed Child twice and have been to the Studio Tour 3 (or 4?) times. We had a Harry Potter themed wedding which was absolutely perfect. Hunger Games was something i avoided reading until the first film was coming out, and then absolutely loved the first 2 books (3rd one got too political for me) and the films are still some of my favourites for costume and set design. I read the twilight books after my best friend recommended them to me. We all actually read them as part of our sisterhood club. I went to blackpool to watch the first film in the cinema with my best friend. I watched the last one at midnight with my wife and one of the girls from the sisterhood who is one of the biggest twilight fans i know still. she has behind the scenes books and dvds and has re read the books that much that the spines are just gone. my mum was also a big twilight fan and would watch them any time they were on tv. i watched a few at the cinema with her, always her choice. she hadnt seen hunger games at the time of them being released but we did watch them all with her a few years ago

14. Would you rather have an American accent or a British accent? i film YouTube videos and always think my accent would be more interesting if it was American

15. Have you ever taken karate lessons? no, my 2 brothers and sister did when i was 5 or 6. i didnt like being touched so never did it

28. Would you rather live in a rural area or in the suburbs? where i live is in between. drive one way and its city, the other way is farms. so living in one ot those farmhouses not far from city life would be the dream. i would have chickens, sheep and cats.

29. Can you whistle? yep but my cats hate the noise

30. Do you sleep with a nightlight? i can see the hallway light from where our bed is so i dont generally need a nightlight but we do have cute ones. i have 3 HP ones on my bedside table

31. Do you eat breakfast every morning? yea as long as i have time

How many times have you been to the hospital? ive only ever been to a&e. once for palpitations, a few times for mental health and once for an x ray on my hand. ive been to walk in centres for urine/kidney infections and for fractured fingers. oh i did go to hospital to see a neurologist to be diagnosed with essential tremor

Have you ever seen Finding Nemo? yes i love it. my brother and sister both bought me the dvd for christmas the year it came out so i had 2 copies for a while. i also had the game for pc and ps2. and i had a game on my phone and ipad where you could build up the seabed and gain fish. the film is just so nice and calming to watch. the scenery, the sound effects, the movements are all just gently flowing. and somehow you get attached to these characters and root for them whether youre a fan of tropical fish or not.

Do you have any weird things you do? i cant have 2 cream biscuits together (custard cream and jam n cream). i sometimes say hi to my teddies so they know i havent forgot about them. i buy hatchimals when theyre on sale even though i havent previously collected them cos im an impulsive pos.
